We're in violent agreement. My issue is with those with attitude issues.
My son also went for the kill, even when I was trying to teach compassion (poor opponent that 3-harded his Dash the wrong way off the board... My son realized that one he should probably have allowed a take back, on the way home).
My concern is for all those with bruised feelings cause they came to win and got crushed. Some lash out, some don't. Either way, changing their perspective to focus on fun might be best for them.

Unpopular opinion time I guess. I go to a tournament to win. I follow the rules and play the game in a polite manner. If an opponent doesn't have fun for whatever reason, not my problem. My list wasn't fun to play against? Not my problem. I beat them too bad or too fast? Not my problem. Something in their list didn't work as expected? Not my problem. They made a big mistake and I stuck to the rules instead of letting them do something against the rules? Not my problem.
If someone has a bad time because I was mean, insulting, or deceitful, then yes that's on me. Otherwise, sorry you didn't enjoy a competitive environment.
If I get paired against a 7 year old, I'm going to play against them the same way I will anyone. Win and get as many points as possible.

Stop telling people "it's just a game of plastic space ships, have fun". Every activity has their casual level all the way up to competitive. Want to just have fun driving? There's go carts. Want to be competitive? Join a league. Want to be super competitive? Go to NASCAR, but don't expect Kyle Busch to take mercy on you just because you're a rookie.

TLDR: if you're playing against a 7 year old, prioritize their experience over yours. And maybe just do that all the time.

You cannot rush through a phase to deprive your opponent of it.

If the player says they're thinking about cloaking, then I dont care if you set every dial - you're just PRE-planning.

No issue here. The A Wing’s most substantive canon appearances are through the Phoenix Squadron run on Rebels, 21 episodes.

no, we only get good SOS data because @Brunas's crack commando team invades BCP and extracts all the data before they can install

That anyone would feel the need to bring a firearm to an X-Wing tournament is truly surreal to me. As a TO, I wouldn't expect a ban to even be necessary to prevent this, but I would cheerfully enforce one if need be.
A weapon may make you feel safer, but it makes everyone else feel less so, which isn't something I would want in any of my events.

If you have the opportunity, you owe it to yourself to come out to a system open or similar event.  Don't let the internet forums (or heaven help you, twitch chat) give you the wrong idea about competition X-wing.  It's staggering how friendly, welcoming, and fun-loving the community is.  I can't promise you won't have to play a quad phantom list in round 1, but I can promise that almost everyone there will go out of their way to help everyone else have a good time.  I had never played in any event larger than a store championship before going to Toronto for the System Open in February.  I was blown away by the community.  Dude, I'm hooked.
As for tips, especially for newer players at competitive events:
Don't be afraid to call a judge!  The judges are there to prevent hard feelings.  I can remember the first time I called a judge at a 25 player Store Champs and feeling like I was being a jerk somehow because my opponent and I couldn't agree.  That's not how it works at all.  Judges are a neutral voice that provide an invaluable service at these events by moderating disagreements without creating hard feelings.  Use them.  Thank them.  And... Don't argue with the freaking judge!  Difficult arc check?  Call the judge.  Don't like the way they rule it?  Tough.  They are the Senate.  For card interactions, if you really, really must you can call over the Marshall but then understand the Marshall is always right.  Always.  Even when they are wrong.  Just understand that, at that event, the Marshall is a force of nature.  Nobody with any sense stands in front of a glacier and rages at it.  TL:DR    Don't argue with your opponent, call a judge.  Don't argue with the judge, just don't.

Gripe about Focus all you want, but the real downfall of X-Wing was the 2 Bank Left maneuver. 2 Bank Right was powerful enough as it was, but pairing it with a Left took things too far. Now every dial in the game has to have it just to be competitive. Ridiculous!

I could see this going either way. From what I see, FFG only announces the end to games that have continuous release cycles. I would expect an LCG to have an end-of-game article, but not a board game. Therefore, BattleLore will never have an end-of-game article just like Rune Age never did. I'm not sure how they'll handle miniatures games, though. The Dust line did have an ending announcement, but part of that was acknowledging that the rights were going to a different company. I can't recall seeing any other of their miniatures game get closed down, so I think we're charting new territory. However, given that Terrinoth is their own property, I think will never say it's completely over. They'll just let it die quietly instead.

Maybe? How cheap did you want it to be? There were never going to be enough players for them to price these like X-Wing 1.0, and the market has changed since then. I believe a contributing factor in going to X-Wing 2.0 was that they could reset the pay scale and charge more for each expansion, keeping up with inflation and other things. My point is that it isn't cheap to produce miniatures, and with a game you know won't be as popular as Star Wars, you need to recoup the startup costs for molds, design, etc. I do not believe that $5 off each expansion would have saved the game and I don't believe going lower than that would have been profitable. Again, a single ship in X-Wing costs $20, but each product is produced on a much larger scale.

It’s been a while, and I’ve been distracted by other projects but here are some Lenox riders.  I wanted to do a leopard pattern, but my efforts on the markings were rubbish so I went with the Lion look.
