I get that they can have a smart AI with an app. I get they can resolve combat with the app quicker. I get that they can give you weapon bonuses.
But, why would I not just play a video game that is a turn base RPG?
Because you play games like this with other people at the same table and a turn-based strategy video game is totally different? Wtf sort of fake argument is this?

So, with all the negativity, I feel the need to praise what I’ve seen so far, and how excited I am. A note that I have no connection to Descent. I thought 2e was too bloated when they let you use 1e stuff which was too hard to find, and it looked pretty generic compared to everything else I own a ton of Imperial Assault, and I think the Descent/IA system was clunky and uninspired. This new game fixes so much
I am so excited to see the game really going hard on the app, and taking it to a level that it needs to be to shine. One of my biggest issues with MoM2e is how same-y some of the characters can feel. Now, with this game, we get unique interactions with terrain and NPCs? That sounds amazing.
The flipping mechanics sound incredibly cool. Getting to juggle abilities is a really cool decision space that doesn’t just deprive you of abilities, but instead forces a temporary change in tactics. Amazing.
The Diablo-like abilities able to be crafted into gear is simply amazing, and the possibilities here are way beyond what you could do without the app (calculating 10% chance abilities? No thanks.)
The cardboard terrain and elevations is simply stunning. Steampark got me started with the stuff, Tang Garden made me an addict, and now this game here has really nailed it.
I love the new art style, as it actually feels different than every other dungeon crawler out there. There’s so much “standard epic fantasy” art out there. Give me something fresher and more indie, please!

Green Goblin has his own scenarios, but you can use the modular blocks of cards with whatever villain.

It is 100% important, I actually unironically believe that. I am alllll for diversity. If having minority characters means more people will play board games, I'm all for it.
She's Pakistani, and her origin does some really interesting stuff with it. One of the things that hit me was when she first gets her powers and transforms "into a hero", she shapeshifts into the original Ms Marvel--Carol Danvers. Blonde hair, blue eyes, skimpy outfit. Its a point she has to deal with that she was unable to see herself, a young brown islamic girl, as a superhero.
Obviously though I want all the classic heroes. But given that from what we've seen, they seem to be taking an alternating approach, I think that's the best of both worlds. I just hope we get a Spider-Gwen, Miles, and Old Peter soon so we can do a full on Spider-verse game.
-
She's an Inhuman. She's a minority. She's a woman. She's awesome. She's still a relatively "fresh" hero.
I was way more hype to see her than Cap. Cap was always going to show up--seeing Kamala pop up early is awesome.

I think its a trick that's only going to happen once to most people.
Just like you have to play around Bait & Switch, you're going to be aware of a possible Restringuntus. You'll have to keep your head on a swivel when facing Dis that this guy might come out, and so try to keep your hand a little more diverse.

That's a completely different issue than "he's lying!" and also wouldn't be solved if you yourself received the email, which you seemed to suggest if you had would make it official to you. So..yeah. Like I said, as long as you're not trying to argue a rule interpretation you have lots of evidence is wrong, then feel free to believe what you want, as its not hurting anybody.

1 minute ago, Palpster said:I haven’t gotten an e-mail from the developers. The person claiming they have might have made it up (NOT saying they did, mind you! Just that they could have). Thing isn’t official until it’s in the FAQ or official rulings section on this forum.
Yeah, that sort of paranoia over a card game is not any less weird. But, you do you, bro. Just don't try and push a ruling opposite to what Brad has ruled because "its not official because I moved the goal posts" and I won't judge.

when Garfield says the intent is one way, and FFG rules it another, that worries me.
BUT, as always, I'll wait for the FAQ for the final word on this. As a side note, I think the FAQ and card clarifications list will be huge for this game. There are a lot of card interactions that need clarifying.
This doesn’t make much sense. Why would you “wait for a FAQ” when it’s the FAQ writer that ruled on it via official FFG rules-question form?
-
9 hours ago, Palpster said:Except that's only for released games, so we'll have to wait a bit, I guess.
In my opinion you wouldn't heal something that isn't damaged, the sentence "if you do" also points in that direction although doesn't clarify much. If it were triggering of of fully healed creatures it would probably have said "reap: Fully heal one friendly creature. That creature cannot receive damage this turn. "
but that's just my opinion, you'll have to ask once the game is released (or find it in an FAQ at that time).
Nope. KeyForge is in the dropdown, and it goes right to the FFG Lead Designer's email. We've gotten responses from him on questions already on the discord.
But yeah, because there is a card worded "if you do" that loudly suggests that it has to be damaged to be considered healed.

Hey all! I figured I'd make a thread to try and gather the various local facebook groups (or just see if anyone is local to you to play with).
I've created a FB group for my area, and I've seen quite a few others, so, if you're in one, or are just looking for people in your area, post here.
KeyForge Baltimore, for the northern MD area. https://www.facebook.com/groups/293097797938145/

Thank you again for your answers !
Btw, this particular deck plays with Untamed and Sanctum.
Yeah, if you haven't been hit by a strong Shadow turn where they steal 5+ Amber, or a strong Sanctum turn where they capture 5+ Amber, you don't quite appreciate how amazing forging a key early can be, ha!

Inksplat :
1/ Ok !
2/ Thanks for the confirmation !
3/ I'm not saying the card cannot work, I should have been more specific ... in this particular deck, there are only 2 Mars creatures ... that's why I considered it a very bad card for this deck. Maybe dead card was a bit much but 99% of the time when you draw this card, you know it's completely useless. But of course, in other decks, this card can be pretty good, I'm just a bit worried about the algorithm including pretty much useless card in decks.
Thank you for your insight !
Its not useless though? Even if you pull back 0 Mars creatures, it gives you a Key at a cost of 10. You didn't say what the other factions are in your deck, so I can't say anything more than that in terms of cards in hand, but being able to craft 2 keys in a single turn or even just the one in the middle of your turn is a great effect, and being able to do it even for 10 will win you games, especially against Shadow.

4 hours ago, Kyudj0 said:Hi everyone,
I played a few games with two decks : Tenseloser and Carlotta, and I have a few questions :
- about Mass Abduction : I understand archives when it's about archiving your own cards, but what does this mean with your adversary's ? Can you use his creatures if you have the same house as him ? (and do you even have to have his house to play them ?) How can he retrieve them if I never access my archives ?
- about playing cards "for nothing" : some action cards give you aember when used. Can you use them to gain the aember even though the effect of the card is useless to you ?
- about Key Abduction : I cannot find an explanation for how this card can be good in this deck, the key will almost always cost a lot more than 6 so it's a dead card. It makes me nervous about this whole "randomized deckbuilds by an algorythm". Trust me, I have much hype for the game and will most certainly buy it, but I wanted your thoughts about this. I know that some decks can be better than others but if some have one or more dead cards in it, that's not the same thing (at least for me).
Thank you all for your feedback !
Mass Abduction states right on the card that if the cards leave your Archives they go back to your opponent's hand. No, he can't access your Archives.
You HAVE to do how ever much you can, but if its not do-able, you can still play the card. So, you can play a destroy each creature card even if there are no creatures, but if you play it, you HAVE to destroy each creature.
I think you're misunderstanding Key Abduction. 1st, it lets you Forge keys outside of the beginning of your turn. 2nd, its -1 Amber for each card in your hand. Which, if you play it first, will be 5. That makes the key cost 10 to start with. So, if you had 4 Mars creatures in play, you'd have a hand of 9, making the cost 6. Key Charge, an Untamed card, lets you forge a key outside of the forge phase at a cost of 7. In a very Mars heavy creature deck, you could potentially forge a key for even cheaper. And against decks like Shadow that steal a lot, even forging a Key outside turn order at a cost of 10 could be great.

Still it looks good. Putting in colored LEDS for the "forged" side would be a bit overkill no?
Haha. Well, I've got 2 decks arriving tomorrow, so, it's out for me.
You definitely could do some crazy LED stuff. I'm just running with paint though atm. Here's my test one, without any sanding or anything before paint:

They had to create an application for X-Wing just to allow them the flexibility to balance point costs after they see what wins and loses. In this 350 card set there will be something that is more efficient than every other card of its type. In this random distribution model, you will be lucky if your deck owns that card. If you're unlucky and don't own that card then you will be at a disadvantage against someone that does.
I get for casual play, this doesn't really matter. But for competitive, if you are at the mercy of a deck you blind-bought and someone blind-bought a better one, how is that fun? In draft environments you have a chance to build some deck synergies which can overcome someone pulling a great card. In this? Nope, just what you drew is what you play....good luck.
To each their own, and I hope those that buy into this have a ton of fun, but no thanks for me and nearly everyone I know that plays games. I showed this game to my playgroup and not a one is interested in the slightest.
That’s partially selection bias on the last part. I told my local store about it and they all thought it was a really cool idea that they wanted to try out. The store is staffed by Magic and 40k players.
Meanwhile, playgroups tend to be of similar mindsets.

Is the app even up yet for this?
With one or 2 days... I'm sure we could get some games going to show them online.
Everybody who has decks is still at GenCon. Best shot would be Sunday or Monday.
-
Since there’ll be an app for tracking games, I could see them maybe removing a faction that either has the highest or lowest win percentage and subbing in a new faction for it. Then it can come back in a later set.

31 minutes ago, Krashwire said:So on average $350 to just get the distribution of houses you want...
Now to meet the other two I wonder how many times you would have to spend the $350...
That's seems steep if you want to play something in particular, and when reality sets in most players are going to have a preference and not be able to have access to play what they actually want to play WILL push them away.
I play card games with both competitive and casual groups. It is exceedingly rare to find players who just dont care what they play. Sure many people myself included may be interested to play a game or two with whatever, but anything other than just trying it out once or twice and I would want to play a deck I would actually enjoy the aesthetic of as well as the mechanics. In magic I never play green or red. I rarely play white. I like black and blue so that what I play. If I knew I had a better that even chance of never getting to play what I wanted I wouldn't bother.
My wife only ever plays white decks in magic. She simply has no interest in playing the other colors. She is very casual when it comes to card games. But she wouldn't for a instant have any interest in playing a random deck of colors other than white.
Trading. This game might actually bring back trading within groups, and that’s an amazing possibility to me.

Is Richard Garfield trying to destroy his own creation, or spread the futility he feels on to the gaming populace? Can't build decks. Can't collect everything. Can't really collect anything since none of the decks matter. Marketing items to make consumers feel unique is nothing new, but in this case it's semi-randomly assigned uniqueness.
Richard Garfield doesn’t like the current state of CCGs. He designed Magic before the Internet and online singles and netdecking were a thing.
I started playing Magic in middle school, and you literally just smashed together what you could back then when you first started. I played so many lunch time games in the library with garbage decks. Cards that probably weren’t any good in my deck became favorites, because when they went off it was awesome.
Later, in high school, decks were better, but they were still super inefficient—you just didn’t have access to 3 of every card, so you made due and had fun with your combos when you could get them, because it was rare and that made it feel more awesome.
Chasing that feeing is why I’m interested in the game—I dropped Magic when I started playing with people who ran an eBay store in the early days. They’d crack dozens of boxes and I had my pick of stuff, and the game just got super boring when every deck is a well oiled machine and you’re just playing to see which one fires off first rather than if you can wrangle either of them to fire off at all.

2 minutes ago, Hellvlad said:Why not make 12 card packs for each factions? You want to keep that feeling that no deckbuilding is required or allowed? fine. Bye 3 packs for 3.33 USD each and mix them together and done. Unhappy with one of the factions, change. by buying another pack. I don't see how the game would suffer from it. This even allow later the introduction of expansion through new factions without alienating your initial purchases entirely. You would just have a bit more control and ... oh... that would make people buy way less decks for the same results because it would be easier to get the factions you like... yeah... what a terrible idea
Trust me there would be ways to sell these in a more customer friendly way by still keeping the spirit of the game. They just choose to go with the least consumer friendly
This method doesn’t work at all. Selling house packs with 12 random cards...how could you mix them with the other packs without making them the same back, which means there’s be no way to stop you from then buying multiple of the same faction packs and then swapping cards around. You’d literally just end up with a normal ccg?

As a long-time DM, I’m gonna hard-disagree here. Playing with a group at a table is way better and more satisfying than playing online. I play plenty of TTS right now with the pandemic, and no session is as good as playing in person across a table. Until digital solutions become less clunky, a physical table will always win, hands down.
