Dodge with coordination trained = 2 to soak
Improved Dodge with coordination trained (Has to be to have the card) = 1 to soak
So Improved dodge seems to be worse than dodge.
Why would Improved Dodge only add 1 soak? Improved Dodge replaces Dodge.
DurakBlackaxe was referring to this bit of text from the blast rule:
Blast: A weapon with the blast quality targets one engagement up to the weapon's range. Everyone in the targeted engagement is subject to the effects of the attack. Blast attacks cannot be parried or blocked, but targets may choose to dodge. Rather than the normal dodge effect, each dice an individual defender would normally contribute to the pool for dodging increases his soak value by 1 against the blast attack.
The rules boost soak per die, with no accounting for whether that die is black or purple. It's a little silly.
If you have Coordination trained, Dodge will add +2 soak (from +2 black dice) vs a blast, but Improved Dodge technically only adds +1 soak (from the +1 purple die it provides) vs a blast.
Which unfortunately means that Advanced Dodge (from Hero's Call) also only provides +1 soak vs a blast, despite it adding a purple die + a challenge symbol + a bane to normal attacks.
I got an answer to my question on the dodges.
Improved Dodge should add +2 soak vs. Blast attacks, and Advanced Dodge should add +3 soak vs. Blast attacks. A future errata update will reflect this.
Enjoy the game!

If I used the Extreme Shot Action card, which has a recharge of zero. I can extend the range of a ranged weapon by one.
Would this mean I could Blunderbuss at medium range?
From my previous posts and rereading the whole thing. Seems I maybe misunderstanding the issue.
Heres the steps i see. Lets keep it simple ( The OP question, all are hit for same damage bonus).
Dwarf Ag 4 BS 1. Conservative Stance
Blunderbuss is fired at 3 people. Using Ranged Shot.
Rolls 4 green 1 yellow 1 purple. According to Kartigans' reply there is no defense from this blast, but if anyone places a Dodge Action card they increase their soak.
If the roll hits ( most likely outcome) everyone in the engagement gets hit for 5DR + 4Ag (Why would a thunder weapon give more damage due to wielders Agility? Makes sense for a bow, or str for weapons). So thats 9 damage. As long as dont get 3 successes or the two boons needed for a crit.
1 of the enemies is Full plate, Tower shield. Not encumbered has agilty 3 so can dodge. Has 3 Toughness. That gives him a soak of 5 + 1 + 1 + 3 = 10. So the Blunderbuss does no damage on normal damage. But has to take the minimum 1 damage.
Another enemy is wearing a robe, doesnt have agility 3 so cannot dodge. Has toughness 2. So Robes have no soak. defense = 2 So would take 7 damage
Am I working this out incorrectly? Because I am not seeming these big numbers people are speaking of. Unless its in combination of another action card.
In regards to the other basic active defense cards, Block and Parry
You cannot parry a hail of shrapnel flying towards you. But you would think if had a tower shield you be able to block it, maybe they got round this by only having the 2 shields with soak, the ones it be feasible to block this blast.

I have mine set up so that the link View New Content will show me only posts in Warhammer, that I havent read since last visit. Very handy.

Looks like the link is deleted as I can display it any more.
I did convert Strange Eons to have the extra slots, but had to stop due to my artwork skills = non existent. Couldn't draw the Any skill box etc.

I cannot see the problem with a Blunderbuss, it is meant to be a high damage weapon in close range. It acts exactly like the real world weapon. It is a very defensive weapon.
The problem I can think of is more to do with movement than anything. If your blunderbuss moves towards people to fire this weapon. And reloading it somehow faster than normal.
If the enemy crowds the pcs, that blunderbuss cannot tell friend from foe. Shoot at the wielder from longer range than he can shoot is another way. Make fatigue give more a hinderance to aiming, all types of ranged weapons.

I created a character with 4 agilty. So he has dodge ascharacter creation.
When can he buy improved dodge which has the trait of Advanced, Active Defence? and how much would it cost.
I have been told Advanced = rank 2 so will cost 2 points to obtain this action card when rank 1.
But I thought Advanced meant you needed to have the basic version to convert it into this advanced version.

I am currently playing a dwarven coachman with Blunderbuss.
When i am firing the weapon i picture a cone blast wave from my character to the engagement group i am targetting in close range.
2 npcs in front of me beside the horse, i try to aim so only hit the npcs, i roll a chaos star as well as hitting the targets. Chaos star = i hit the horse i tried to avoid.
Defense = protection from landing a blow. You cannot have defense from the blast as everything in its range (short) will be hit if the ranged attack works.
Soak = reduces damage taken. Your armour protects you from this damage, and if have dodge can soak upsome of the damage of the shrapnel so it doesnt wound you as much.
Sounds pretty straight forward to me.
When these enemies counter attack, you wont be holding a melee weapon so lose alot of your active defences
A Hochland Rifle has a longer range and fires one bullet. so your target has a chance to defend from it so doesnt get hit.

When i made my Coachman, i spent the 4 points to obtain Education for him so he could read and write, and understand where places were in the world.
What your saying is within the rules if he randomly got the first career with education, and its the advantage of being human to easily change careers.
But wouldnt he have to take his starter skills/actions etc in Burgher and to play at least one adventure before changing career? Dont think you can change careers in character creation.

I am finding them very much faster. Have had no loading problems.
Very happy.

I found that I had to turn compatibility on in some browsers to get the return key to work.

I was thinking on this, the only greenskins I think that arent covered are the hobgoblins, and those ogre ones.
But I could be wrong.

Sorry if I havent noticed it but.
Is there any rules information on how Light Wizards cast spells when linked with other light wizards. How the way their pyramid rituals work on empowering their spells eg. 1 wizard 2 apprentines link so wizard can cast a more powerful spell.
The old information I could find mentions they are Clerics. Their magic is healing and proection, powerful against daemons and undead.
Is there a healing spell?
If i ever get the chance to be a wizard, I like to try something that isnt the common bright wizard.
-
Elf
says it all.
I wish I knew more of what was coming out, some form of a plan.
PoD's. What can we expect next and when, careers, wizard/clerics.
I have decided not to buy anything until the dice are ready so can get a bulk order to cut down on postage costs to the UK.

Okay, i understand now. its rank not career. Thats everything I need to know about characters training I think

DurakBlackaxe said:
Would this rank 2 mean anything,
It means for example that you can train skills up to rank 2, and that you can acces spells of rank 2 without penalties.
Ah,I didnt know that, thought you had to have second career.
Thank you for replying, these answers clear everything up. Until I thought about it .
Another Question for you. If i at character creation trained a career skill. Say Weapon Skill. So its rank 1.
As your character gets more xp, he can train one skill per career up to his rank. So until i am rank 2, the max weapon skill can be is rank 1.So if i become rank 2. I can train a creation skill to rank 2 as i havent trained it while adventuring? So could train weapon skil lto rank 2.
But cant train a skill learnt after character creation to rank 2 as I have bought rank 1. Eg after character creation, with my 1st xp i trained Ride to rank 1. If i am in same career at rank 2, i cannot train ride to rank 2, as I have already trained it.
But this only applies until I am on my second career?
I hope this question makes sense.

I did a search and didn't find an answer I could understand.
What i understand
10 advances = full career
1 extra advance = dedication bonus
10-19xp = rank 2
20 - 29 = rank3
What i need to understand is this. When i have 8 xp i buy the below.
If i obtain
1 action card
1 talent
1 skill/specialization
1 wound threshold
and a non career advance costing 4 advances.
The rulebook says non-career advances do not count as advances spent towards completing the characters current career.
So i need 6 more advances + 1 to get dedication bonus so i would need 7 more xp. Which make a total of 15 xp making me rank 2 in first career.
Have I got this correct or am I missing something?
Would this rank 2 mean anything, do people treat me differently?
I know after getting dedication bonus i have to change careers. Which could cost another 4xp.

I am making the second character I have ever made for an online game.
Once i got the random career for a dwarf - Coachman, I thought to myself. Where is he from, looked at the dwarf races, saw Zhufbar could have Dwarven Engineering. Then my imagination went flying.
That be good for fixing a wagon, so then i took stats to make him average, made him slightly more agility for being on a wagon alot.
Took actions and skills to fulful this coachman role.
Then i thought to myself, thats what his job was. What was his personality, came across the Great sense of Humour rep card, gave me great idea for engineering and humour. Then I thought to myself. What is his goal, what did he plan to become. I used this to give my character a reason for travelling.
So. During this creation. I had a history, a job, a personality and a future all planned.
I found it fun.
The thing is, if it been a soldier i had gotten. You cannot help thinking along the terms of combat skilled. You could go for the drunken lazy soldier idea but when it comes for the time he has to do his job, combat, it will likely be a short life. I dont mean min/max. I just mean you more likely think of combat actions/tactics/skills.
My first character was a watchman. I did exactly what i just said. Took combat actions etc ect. But the quest was mostly social, so I had nothing to do. Luckily my gm's at the time allowed me to change some cards, as i was new to game. So I swaped some social skills. This meant I could do stuff. It made for a more enjoyable game from my point of view. I took socials that could be used in combat or out of it.
People get better at character creation, once they play at least once, with both combat and social encounters..

From my experience.
High Elves learn magic in the Tower of Sorcery. They spend decades or is it centuries learning magic. Before they can even go out into the world.
A lvl 5 High Elf mage is so powerful that 3 of them created the Schools of magic that the empire used. Some people think a lvl5 human wizard is equal to a level 1 high elf mage.
The mean reason I was told is that they spend most of her lives stuck in that tower, so you never meet one anywhere.
But one of the members of this forum has created rules to cater for High Elves, if you download it from his post.

I have a question about roleplaying in these programs.
Recently (within last 5 years) i have noticed two types of internet roleplayers, the ones who just roleplay.
Durak looks over the room searching for traps.
to the other type
Duraks hair blowing faintly in the air highlights his face as he searchingly searches the room for any sign that a trap could be lying there waiting the faintest step of an unwary adventure.
I am more of the first type. Due to my typing speed and spelling mistakes.
But if its verbal, I tend to give more reasoning. I look over the room looking for traps, as i am feeling a bit uneasy in this room.
I have only played the game once last Summer, but be willing to give it a try as i really need to become more experienced in the game. You mention 6gmt to 10 gmt. So thats 7bst to 11 bst? I am in UK so either is a good time.
-
So they are sort of a High Elf mage who only uses Bright magic.
Sounds like a possible career. Seems there been so many changes in WFB since i played it over 10 years ago. Sun Dragons.
Thanks for the info.

Got the heraldry of empire and high elves, didnt get the skaven.
I see what you mean by the runes.
I have one question though, theres a page with a picture of a dragon mage, what is a dragon mage?
