1 year 4 months and 9 days till Episode VII.
This game is not going anywhere.
I agree with this. There are plenty of ships to come out of the new movies.

I was wondering if anyone was going for the miniature gaming or any other games. There is a demo for X-Wing on Saturday at 6PM but I don’t know who is doing the demo, so I’m sure it’s not an official demo from FFG but I’ll check it out anyway.

I would like to create 4 squads, 2 Imp and 2 Reb, 100 points each or at least close. My plan is to make the 4 squads as balanced as possible to each other because what I am going to do is leave the squads pre built and ready to go. Meaning that any time the game is played we just have to pick a faction squad and start. We might change the upgrades from time to time but the squads will remain the same. The reason for this is that I work in the fire department and in our down time we won’t have the time to plan and build squads, we just want to grab and play. I did a similar post awhile back but now I have more ships and I would like to get some ideas from the more experienced players.
Here is what I have:
4 X-Wings
3 B-Wings
2 Y-Wings
4 Tie Fighters
7 Tie Interceptors (4 from the Aces pack.)
2 Tie Bombers
1 Tie Advanced
1 YT
1 Firespray

You can still get D&D board game tiles that interlock. You would just have to paint them. It's what I use for some games.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just went with Rhymer just because I like him. I just wanted to use a named bomber pilot.
-
I would like to have a one squad using a:
Tie Bomber with Major Rhymer and a Tie Advanced X1 with Vader.
Any suggestions for other ships to add? I only have one Bomber and one Advanced X1, I do have four Tie Interceptors and two Tie’s left over to use. I also have the Aces pack.
Thanks for any help.

I am wondering if anyone are using replacement dials for X-Wing and where did you get them. I had seen some from LITKO that I might get along with some extra tokens.

How good will the builds be with Vader and some of ace's pilots?

One reason I wanted to try X-Wing on a hex board is to have a different movement system. I am a long time Starfleet Battles player from the late 1970’s when Starfleet Battles started as a pocket edition game, so maybe that’s why I gravitated towards the hex board. For me the only big difference of playing X-Wing on a hex board is the movement system. It is good to know how other people feel about this game. From what little research I have done this seems to be one of the most popular games out there. After playing Starfleet Battles for so long I do enjoy the simplicity of this game. You set-up, fly, shoot, destroy and repeat. Anyway, thanks for all of the replies. I like to know what people think about the different aspects of the game.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the game design as it was originally intended to be played. Some people like to play what some would call a more structured game. I like to play without the hex board and with the hex board. oneway said: "I feel a hex map will kill some of the basic concepts as well." In your opinion oneway, what basic concepts are affected? The only thing I feel is really different is the firing arc is 60 degrees instead of 90 degrees. And to some extent the bumping factor is greatly reduced. But it’s just another way to play a great game.

These are just proto types but I hand etched hexagons on 1/8 inch clear plastic sheets. Each sheet measures 24 x 18 inches. The reason for 24 x 18 inch sheets was made for portability reasons. You would need 4 sheets to make 1 game board at 4 x 3 feet. The hexes are 2 inches which I felt is a good size for the fighters though it may be a bit awkward for the large ships. I chose clear plastic so I could play on any star field background when our game group decides to play X-Wing on the hex board. Plus it can be used for any game. I plan on having these massed produced with laser etching and maybe on black plastic, so if anyone has seen anything like this before let me know please. So for anyone who would play X-Wing on a hex board, what do you think about this idea and would you buy a set? I have not figured out the pricing yet but I will get that information soon. I would post the pictures but I could not find the attachment icon. So how do you post pictures?

Saber Squadron Pilot + Veteran Instincts
Turr Phennir
Howlrunner
Backstabber + Engine Upgrade
Winged Gundark
I have not had much time to devote to the game yet but after sorting through all of the advice I have received, I finally had a chance to build a squad.

My goal is to build a squad and stick with that squad for a while, so I can somewhat master the game, learn different tactics and get better with the squad that I built. I will swap out upgrades from game to game to see how things work out but I will stick with the pilots I start off with. So if you had just one squad to build and fly what would it be? For the Empire or for the Rebels. I do realize that different people can fly the exact same squad differently (one person says squad A build is great and another person says squad A build sucks.) but I just wanted to get some ideas.

I am very interested in these AI. templates. Do you already have them drawn up?

I have not played many games of X-Wing and I have not done it yet but I am wondering how well it plays without using any ship upgrades, just the basic ship cards. Is the game still well balanced?
Thanks for any insight on this.

I am wondering what upgrade card could take the place of the Advanced Sensors card? I don’t want to buy the shuttle just to get the card. Although the shuttle looks sweet.

Thank you VanorDM.

I have a Vassal software question. I am having problems loading the X-Wing ships and all the other tokens and pieces into the program. I have only used VASSAL once or twice but I wanted to use it for some solo play. Also where do I find the tokens and measuring piece files, I have the ship files? Thanks for any help.

I ask this same question. If you go this post I started you will get ideas from others who responded to my question.

I am fairly new to X-Wing, and I have played a few games. But what I have are 2 starter sets, 1 Firespray, 1 YT-1300, 3 Tie Interceptors, 3 B-Wings, 1 X-Wing Expansion and 1 Tie fighter Expansion. I would like some suggestions for building two 100 point fighter squads, no large ships yet, one Rebel and one Imperial. My difficulty is when it comes to adding the abilities. I have not played the game enough to know what cards work well with what ships. I am not asking for people to build squads for me but just give some suggestions on what abilities are good and which abilities is a waste of time. In time I will understand what works with what and then I can share my squad builds (successful builds or going down in flames builds).
Thank you for any help.

Small pumice rocks work great. They are fairly light but you might have to make your owns stands.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I ordered a hex map with 2 inch hexagons. I’m going to try the game without the distance templates.

I would like some suggestions on what expansion to get. I only have the core game and I just want to get only one of the expansion sets so which one is a good one to get? Thanks for any help.
