I'm going to use the bye. A factor I'm not seeing mentioned is tournament fatigue.

If I was dueling with them? I mean, as much as people hate the design from TFA, a cross-guard (or at least bell guard) is a good idea, because otherwise you do run the risk of losing hands and fingers. Star Wars itself, in fact, would tell you that such a thing has happened repeatedly because people just can't wrap their head around not leaving their weapon hands exposed to reprisals.

Likewise, the ISD itself is pretty flimsy. You can't slash with it (blunt), and stabbing would probably just break the model? So, really, you'd be looking at having to reinforce them with either a steel point on the front, or maybe a bar going through the entire model so that you could use them like a dirk/dagger.

Even so, I'd recommend just going with a sword.

    Or did you mean dual?

I won't like the post Sean as I don't like the fact that you feel you have to be punished before the mob for what I believe (rightly or wrongly) was an honest, non malicious mistake brought forth from a Fly Casual attitude that the X-Wing community is known for.

I agree, you were in the wrong.  End of sentence.

I understand your choice and respect you for it, but I am not happy that you feel the need to impose this punishment upon yourself for the good image of the game, the NOVA podcast and yourself.

I am going to answer this accusation in the only way I can. I was wrong and the rules prove it. unfortunately I used bad judgment in my decision to decide a game with a coin flip. That by definition is collusion. I have no defense for this as I should have known better and actually do know better than to allow this. With my experience as a TO I have no right to think that anything I do is above any other person or player associated with this awesome game. If FFG decides to censure me in any way I will fully accept their decision no matter what it is, and I will in no way dispute it. I am glad someone from the community brought this topic up as it has taught me a lesson in my conduct while playing this great game. One other thing to point out is that whether I did this in 2014 or yesterday, my conduct was deplorable. I want to apologize for my actions to the community that I love, to Organized play for putting my own concerns above the game on that day, and my friends who trust in my judgments when making rulings on this game. I accept FULL responsibility for my actions.

NateWolfman reacted to DanDoulogos in So didn't FFG promise changes at Worlds?
I don't smell anything sinister in their failing to make a big announcement.  If that was the plan, obviously something significant changed, and the change mooted the scheduled announcement.

If my wife and I plan to announce the gender of our unborn child, but we lose the child before the announcement, there would probably some who, being ignorant of our reasons, would imagine that our failure to make an announcement was in some way deplorable or deceitful.

Because I live in a world where "stuff" happens, I've become more inclined to give the benefit of doubt to parties involved in these kinds of situations.  Rather than frame what I see in the less than charitable caricature.

I think Sithborg put his finger on the most likely reason the announcement was either postponed or dissolved altogether.

Get over yourself. No one, especially FFG, is forcing you to buy anything. It's a game, purchased voluntarily, of toy plastic space ships. It's hardly an issue of them forcing you to do anything. If you do feel that you're being forced, imtimidated, coerced, or otherwise being made to purchase any of said toy plastic space ships against your will, I strongly suggest you contact your local law enforcement office or retain legal counsel to investigate legal action against said person/persons.

Yeah, that one. It was pathetic. But then I have a very old fashioned "You put your name on it, you take responsibility for it" moral.

I'm pretty sure it the change to Fedex. I ordered Imperial Assault shortly after they started using them and it took much longer than usual. 10 days sounds about right to me. It is free shipping, if you must have it right away, then just pay for a faster S&H, or go to a local game shop and pay the full MSRP. Cheap and slow or fast and expensive, those are your options, no one is screwing you over.

NateWolfman reacted to FatherTurin in The 'militant' casual and being shamed into allowing your opponent to perform forgotten card abilities
Casual games = I have no problem whatsoever. I will actually pre-empt the other player sometimes, stuff like "don't forget your action" or, if they have advanced sensors and are about to move, "are you going to perform an action first?" Just as friendly reminders. I will also remind them about upgrades they forgot about. "I know it looks like you missed, but don't forget Predator."
In a tournament that I paid money to enter? Nope.
MAYBE if it is a brand new player or someone clearly having issues with keeping the phases straight I will cut them some slack, like the above reminders once or twice. Maybe. And I certainly wouldn't let them try and push me around that way. That isn't casual. That's a Page 5, potentially WAAC hooligan who is trying to use "fly casual" as an excuse. He isn't a casual player, just an inexperienced one. Not always the same thing.

Blue on Blue fights are as old as wargaming. You can't really demand that someone collects enough stuff to play more then one faction, it just isn't practical.
You also can't expect people to play a round with 2 games of Armada, that would make a 5 round tournament take up a whole weekend.
Plus some people only like to play a given side, they would hate it if they had to play the other faction because the two sides don't play the same. Being the best player doesn't mean you can play both factions equally, because the play style of one faction may suit you better then another.
Tournaments aren't about lore/fluff, they're about seeing who the best player is, that means letting them play with the best list they can come up with, the one they'll play the most effectively. Expecting them to field two lists actually runs counter to that.

NateWolfman got a reaction from DraconPyrothayan in First round tactics?
I apologize if this should go in another sub forum, but none seemed quite right. My last couple tournaments I took soontir fel and the real admiral with VI. My favorite thing about this list is the vast majority of the time I get to place both my ships after all of my opponents, my question to the community: what are some good first round pieces of advice?
    1) if my opponent spreads there forces along the whole edge I rush out top speed in one corner to try to take out a ship or two before they get involved. Is this the best course?
    2) if my opponent groups there ships all together I tend to joust head on with my decimator, and try to flank with fel, but this too I tend to rush in quickly.
In what situation would these not be the best courses? Is there a time in which I should start in the opposite corner and slow play? Are there good articles about this topic out there? Thanks in advance!
