    color-blind play?

Well, the only red manouvres are U-turns and the full speed ahead for Y-wings and i think the speed 4 turns for Y-wings The only green manouvres are either straight ahead at lower speeds or turn at lower speeds. All others are white. with this in mind, I would think that logic is your best tool and that you are unliely to get confused by this…if you memmory fails you then simply be reasonable and think "is this likely to be a hard manouvre?" He can tell that its different to white, I assume? Dont let this prevent you buying the game…its easily worked around!

    color-blind play?

oh and also, Im pretty sure that someone had listed the manouvres on this forum somewhere with the colours, so using this you could maybe mark the dials somehow?

    color-blind play?

I would think that you couldjust use logic to solve this problem. I assume that red/green colourblind people can still see that it is different to white? as such it should be obvious which manouvres are likely to be easier to perform… i.e a speed 2 listing flightly to the left isnt likely to be red and a full speed turn isnt likely to be green….
  4. I think a fun mechanic would be if the inteceptors had a static ability like "after attacking, you may make 1 free green 2- speed manouvre". This would allow them to be used on quick strafing runs agianst lower skilled pilots, simulating the hit and run tactics of inteceptor craft, whilst limiting the advantage because all higher pilot skills would have already fired, and a 2 speed manouvre of this kind would only be of limited use at avoiding firing arcs etc. probably needs tweaking…
  5. sorry jsut reread and saw the word free. ignore that last post!
  6. agreed Davicus. Aahzmandius_Karrde: another problem with your idea is that unless this action was a free additional action, an interceptor couldnt move more than 3 and still focus or use any other action, giving it a distinct disadvantage over other ships! As they simply are faster, surely this shouldnt effect the ability to use actions really, should it?
  7. Aahzmandius_Karrde said: Re-read the last sentence again. A 3-speed move followed by a 2-speed move is equivalent to a 6-speed. I'm not talking about stacking the templates, I'm saying taking actual move. To the knowledge problem you've already made the bulk of your move, and by limiting it to green moves you're just finishing it off. You also still have to contend with pilot skill. If I'm low then while movements are locked I haven't seen many of them. If I'm high… well then maybe it is another benefit of having a high skill being able to partially react to what's happened around me. Here's the other part of it, this is an action. If I'm not in an open area, I'm not going to pull this off successfully. The dial maneuver will occur and if I collide with anyone I lose my action and can't perform the second maneuver. So you select up to two 3- speed manouvres and they are performed in number order. this would allow stepwise movement, interesting curves and 6 straight movement… Agreed about the action part, but surely the point of a small inteceptor craft in battle is that it can whizz around doing cool movements in tight spaces, which your mechanic negates?
  8. cant really agree or disagree with that… just going on what they seemed to say a while back..
  9. Esvedium Games, the sole FFG supplier to the UK just anounced that, based on news just recieved from FFG it will be available on the 22nd-23rd of September in the UK. FFG seemed to suggest in an response to an email I sent them a while back that the release would be simultaneous in all countries…. so hopefully this date sticks (even though its a long way off yet!)
  10. This would give them too great an advantage no? the second move would have to be plotted once the first move had been taken… meaning that youd already have knowledge of other ships movement… furthermore, your suggestion only yeilds a maximum speed equivalent of 5 (a 3 plus a 2 would be the furthest you could go)…which isnt travelling further, just in a more complicated way… this would account for the extra manouvrability of the interceptor class, but not for the greater speed. Im not sure FFG would add your suggestion… seems the advantage of knowing others moves before the second part of yours is too great… gives you an advantage that not even the most skilled pilots have..
  11. in which case, I wonder how they will do the Tie/in and A-wing…. I would assume that these ships can travel faster than a Tie/advanced (otherwise their role as interceptors seems redundant) Perhaps a set of speed 6 templates?
  12. or do you just put a speed 1 and a speed 4 together? just noticed I hadnt seen it in any photos….
  13. it may well have already docked… FFG arent great at updating their 'upcoming' page, as evidenced by the fact that the core still shows for a Q2 release…
  14. not to mention that forgetting rules played a fairly big part in the last game. I dont think anyone could have had enough time to really know what they were doing and Im sure some of the tactical choices made wouldnt be done the same with a bit more practise. I wonder if many people used swarm tactics….

  16. Those are the first proper close ups ive seen of the miniatures and they are excellent! such good attention to detail. now i just want mine. come on ffg… the suspense is killing me!

  18. I favour the ninja interpretation of the ffg theory…. they come in the night (which for me is the day, as I am in the UK) and leave no trace. not a speck of blood flecks the walls. The posts are clean. some question thier existence, but they disappear. not even the history books speak of those unfortunate, curious souls… only the ghosts of trolls evidence their existence….
  19. The (potentially many many) days spent waiting for this game are made a little easier by the interesting and entertaining conversations on this forum. not to mention that it gives me a great tool to help me slack off at work Thanks to all who post!
  20. Nalydd said: The big question in my mind is would the 'listing to the left' maneuver be a Han Solo specific action or included on the dial? HAHA! exactly what I was thinking! it would have to be an action, with the effect of (for some unknown reason) making you untargetable for one turn, in exchange for not firing…
  21. Surely that only works if you had guessed that they would be flying slow? otherwise you would still overtake…
  22. tiepilot1138 said: It really shouldn't matter who goes first when it comes to collisions. Both units are going to be in the same place at the end of the turn, regardless of who got there first. Even if you move first into a clear area, you're still in a collision when your opponent crashes into you. Except that you lose your action by crashing into them, whereas they have already used their action… not to mention that you impede their full movement, potentially disrupting their lines…
  23. just thought of another advantage to this, which was in the tournament final video: Ship A (x-wing rookie pilot) moves, measures for target lock on Ship B and is just outside the range for it, denying it this option. Ship B (Darth Vader) then moves, putting it that tiny bit closer and allowing a target lock! then Vader gets to resolve attacks before the rookie pilot!

    Star Wars RPG beta

Manchu said: It's open in the sense that anyone can participate by purchasing the book. Also, it's kind of silly to view the transaction as you paying FFG to playtest their game. For the money, you get nearly 250 full color pages of complete rules (complete as in "everything you need to play" not as in "finished") including a starting adventure. If none of that seems valuable to you, then simply don't buy it. There's no reason to dog the company for giving people who do see value in that the option to start playing before launch. Sorry to come off as a little stringent on this but there are plenty of Negative Nancys hashing this out over in the EotE forum if you want to join their mournful cavalcade. There's really no reason for this thread to be here unless we're using it to talk about possible connections between X-Wing and EotE. Plus the X-Wing forum is generally a happy place. Be nice to keep it that way. I wasnt disparaging ffg, I was just unclear on what it meant…. I would guess that if I bought it and then found that the finished version was quite different, then it would be a bit annoying, but I do see the value in it for both the player and for FFG. Happier now im being a Positive Pedro?

    Ion effect?

DavicusPrime said: 2) Star Wars tech has ships with a primary drive engine(s) and various lateral thrusters in stategic points of the hull to provide maneuverability. It's one of the justifications for things like X-wings having wings. If in X-Wing the only real effect of an Ion cannon hit is a temporary shut down of the primary engines, then the maneuver thrusters wouldn't be effected and the thing could still potentially perform a barrel roll. Wait…what? So the thrust on an x-wing comes from the four thrust engines on the back of the wings, and additional small thrusters are on the hull for added manouvrability…. so how could an xwing do a barrel roll? the small thrusters would have to be in the flat sides of the wings to allow that, no? or angled oddly along the curve of the hull to create spin? how could it move sideways whilst doing a barrel roll? wouldnt it stay in place? Why would having wings help this, when there is no air resistance anyway? I always thought the wings were just to allows a greater spread for the laser cannons… plus obviously they look totally sweet…
