Va Beach, VA here. Little far to get up with you guys up north on a regular basis, but please keep me informed. I might make it every now and then.

Target Lock is an action. Biggs' card says "cannot be targeted by attacks if the attacker could target you instead". They don't reuse the word attack the second time but that is the implication. Step one of the combat phase is "Declare target" which says that it must be in range and inside the firing arc.
So since Vader can't declare Biggs as a target he's free to target Horton. It's one of the good uses of a barrel roll if the roll will take Biggs out of your arc but leave another target within it.

So I already have 1 core, 2 X-Wing, 2 Y-Wing, 1 TIE Fighter, 1 TIE Advanced.
My pre-order consists of 2 core, 1 X-Wing, 2 Y-Wing, 2 TIE Fighter, 1 TIE Advanced
Grand total 6 X-Wings, 4 Y-Wings, 9 TIE Fighters, 2 TIE Advanced.

So after crunching all the numbers if you're playing Imperial vs Imperial unless you have nothing in your arc never take Evade you need the Focus. At 6% chance to hit straight up against an Evade token, and 12% if you have a Focus to combat it it will be something of a slog. But then you can take it back to proper tactics and just knowing how to deal with the situation to decrease the play time.

I'm both excited and saddened by this news. At this rate they'll be sitting at my house while I'm at a convention…. sigh
-
As a point that is the percentage for all hits, not just a single hit. It's also including criticals. So the damage potential for all of those hits is a bit more than the 1/3 chance of hitting.

I posted a part of this in another thread but I was still working on the whole.

I'm waiting for a PDF to be approved at BGG, I'll post a link when it's available.

OK, so I was already working up some numbers, but here's the chart:

So the difference between a TIE attacking an X-Wing and a TIE attacking a TIE is 41% vs 29% chance to hit. That's only about a 1/4 reduction in hit chances. Yes, this ignores Evades and Focuses, but if everyone is colliding all the time like you say then no one is getting those anyway.

Technically it's decided by 11 cards: ten objectives, plus your starting resource, which I'll refer to as a "Base" card in homage to the previous game.
Starting resource?
The Faction card which has the turn order sequence on it also provides a single resource. It's also typed to the faction on the card just like other objective cards.

Yeah, that's true. It's just, I'm really obsessed with equality and even distributions. That's one thing that drove me crazy about LotR: the distribution of heroes in different spheres is never even. One sphere always gets the shaft. I'd really like for these factions to be evenly distributed within each cycle, but I'm not holding my breath.
The problem is even if the first cycle is perfectly balanced card wise the meta will screw that up and it will require the next cycle to skew off the "strongest" faction. Thankfully it's a "Living" game and doesn't have to stagnate on the meta of the day.

Unfortuneatly even between my 2 FLGS I expect I'm the only one that will be acquiring product. Got a few people to play with, but they'll just sponge off my set. Hence my substantial investment.

I've also calculated Y-Wing vs TIE fighter in all it's combos.
Basically you have
- 59.29% chance of hitting with the Ion canon, or primary weapon at range 1
- 42.21% chance of hitting with the primary weapon at range 2
- 36.46% chance of hitting with the primary weapon at range 3.
Chance of multiple hits heads downward of course:
- 41.76% of at least 2 hits at range 1
- 27.87% of at least 2 hits at range 2
- 25.58% of at least 2 hits at range 3
That slight drop off between range 2 and 3 actually suprises me.

Basically this shows the probabilities of the dice. Hundreds place is criticals, tens place is hits, ones place is focus, followed by the percentage that's likely.

I wanted to verify this, as it didn't seem correct to me, but it looks legit! "The defender resolves any card abilities that allow him to roll additional (or fewer) dice. Also, if he is targeted at Range 3 by the attacker’s primary weapon, he rolls 1 additional defense die."
Wow… I'm actually a bit flabergasted on this one. This is also supported by the summary rules on the last page which is "Range combat Bonus. When attacking with a primary weapon: Range 1: + [Red Die] Range 3: + [Green Die]"
That does give the torpedoes a little extra oomph to them.

I'm sure how well that picture shows it.
The bottom of the base is 40mm square, there is a inset to it that is about 2mm deep and 36-37mm square. Little hard to measure being clear and all, very little contrast to the edges. There's an additional donut shaped inset where the center post is on the top side. The outer diameter is about 9mm and the inner is about 5mm. The chevron that indicates the front is actually raised out of this inset as is the "© 2012 LFL" off to one side. They are no more than a texture raise and shouldn't impact inserting/glueing anything into this inset.
Felt and or magnets seems like a good idea. I'm also thinking I probably want to take some white enamel and "highlight" the forward chevron. Also as a hint the pegs are keyed. they have a flat side that always faces forward on the base and this locks the miniature into a forward facing position. I think I might enamel the flat of the pegs as well.

I disagree. The wording of Proton Torpedoes is: "Spend your target lock and discard this card to perform the attack". So this is a regular attack with the values of the card, and thus also subject to all rules that apply to attacks, unless otherwise noted.
The biggest counter example that proves PT is a standard attack: "Ion Cannon Turret, Attack: Attack 1 ship (even a ship outside your firing arc) …" Why would PT not be worded similarly if it was able to attack outside arc?

I like it! But as I said, I have the same box and the rules fit inside. I just lay it across the inside surface and close the box. The fit is tight, but the case still closes.
I can get it in mine and it does close but I'm sure it's putting stress on the hinge and I'd rather not leave it constantly stressed. I'll also end up with 3 copies of the rules and want at least 2 of them to have available during play. Two of them in the box would definiately be a stress.
-
Delete dupe. I really hate this forum software.
-
So since the closure of the plano box is too tight to slip the rules in (overall a good thing) I decided to do something about it.

I was at FedEx today and picked up some airbill pouches. The rule book fits in them perfectly and it sticks well to the outside of the container.

There are definately neutral pods/objectives. I got caught once or twice in the demo because I only had neutral resources there fore I could not play out Sith cards as at least one resource must match the faction of a card being played if it has a faction at all.
For instance set 36 "Reconnisance Mission" is neutral.
-
No you can't, the card represents both the Pilot and the Ship.
-
That's not my set, just the guy that pointed out the case. When my set is done there'll be 3 more X-Wings, 2 more Y-Wings, and 4 more TIE Fighters. So that case will be pretty full.
-
Roy: I want to agree with you, but the card says 'Perform a barrel roll' not 'Perform a Barrel Roll'. I really wish it had just used the symbol, the it would be definitive. I think this is another one that needs to go to the question box.

Where are you from? (A chance to make connections in your area.)

I'll definitely keep you in the loop. Two or three of us are actually thinking about coming by the Game Parlor to run some demos on Saturday afternoon. Are you available? Maybe we can get a game or two in. By the way, are they still charging $2 to sit at a table to play?
Not this Saturday as I'll be in Raleigh playing boardgames for 4 days. The downside to that is that I'll be there while my pre-order sits at home because it probably won't get here before I leave Thrs morning.
