Spending Experience into Midnight Masks
Assussanni replied to Sir_Blacksoutalot's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Yes, by default you may include two copies of any given card by title in your deck. So you could have two level 0 Leo de Luca’s, a level 0 and a level 1 Leo de Luca or two level 1 Leo de Luca’s. This is in the Rules Reference under “Deckbuilding”. If you only have a single level 0 Leo de Luca in your deck (e.g. if you only have one core set) then you could replace any card in your deck when you buy the level 1 version, you wouldn’t have to remove the level 0 copy. Upgrading is specifically for when you replace a lower level card with a higher level card of the same title, possibly reducing the amount of xp you spend, but as you correctly point out there is no benefit to doing this when the card you are upgrading from is level 0. Your calculations are accurate: it would be 3 - 0 = 3 if you were to upgrade a level 0 card into its level 3 version. And yes, to swap out a card in your deck for a level 0 card costs 1 xp. -
Locked Out (Of Arkham DB)
Assussanni replied to Captain Mayhem's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
At the very bottom of ArkhamDB there are a couple of contact buttons, one for e-mail and one for Reddit. I’d try giving one of them a go if you haven’t done so already. -
Caleb says "Ronin is +1/+1 for every upgrade on them", which is not what is actually printed on the card. The printed text only cares if Ronin has an attached upgrade or not, not how many upgrades they have, so as written I agree that it is a +1/+1 maximum and they made a mistake during the live stream. It's possible that an earlier iteration of the card during playtesting said +1/+1 for each upgrade and Caleb forgot what they decided on for the final version.

Question for innsmouth players. - bloat concern
Assussanni replied to Krysmopompas's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
MJ and Jeremy said on a live stream that bless and curse will be confined to this cycle for the foreseeable future because of the need for the additional tokens in the deluxe box, which they can't/don't want to do every time. Therefore, they are going all in on it with the player cards because they don't expect that they will be able to use it on any cards in future cycles. I can't comment on how it compares to Masks because I don't own Eldritch Horror, but if you don't like the added fiddliness and mental overhead of dealing with bless and curse tokens then you could consider skipping this cycle and jump back in for the next one. As for whether the bless/curse mechanic is sub-par, I think it may not be apparent until the cycle is complete. Perhaps it might be best to wait until the whole thing is released and see if it is worth buying for the quality of the story and scenarios? I think the first two are strong but we'll have to wait and see if the quality remains high throughout. -
Hi Miguel, welcome to the game! I think your first experience is quite common. I certainly remember having to leaf through the rules to decide whether “unique Cultist” meant I could put one (but only one) Acolyte into the victory display. The third scenario is very hard, especially if it is your first time playing it. I remember playing as Roland and getting defeated quite early by Umôrdhoth’s Wrath. Wendy soldiered on but fell just short of averting disaster. Good luck for your second attempt!

To take the Evade action Trish must be engaged with the enemy, but you can evade an enemy (meaning exhaust it and disengage from it) without needing to be engaged with it yourself. It is confusing because "evade" is used for both the name of the action and to describe effect that it produces. Trish's ability is producing the evade effect rather than granting an evade action so, like the free triggered ability on Stray Cat, it can be used on any enemy at her location regardless of whether she is engaged with it or not.

A couple Gathering questions for new player
Assussanni replied to Sir_Blacksoutalot's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Just to expand on the answer to question 3: on page 26 of the Rules Reference is the timing for the steps of a skill test. Step 2 is when you commit cards to the skill test and there are player windows either side of this step. These windows are when you can trigger free abilities, such as those on Hard Knocks, so you can do this either before or after you commit cards to the test. There are no other player windows during a skill test, which is why you cannot use Hard Knocks after revealing the chaos token from the bag. -
Generally, if you look up the illustrator you can usually find high resolution versions of the art in the artist's portfolio. Quite a few of them can be found on ArtStation if they don't have their own website, e.g. the cover of the Rules Reference is here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/o8b84 and the cover of the Dunwich Legacy is here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/LlqW0. Some artists also sell prints of their artwork if you want a physical copy. Unfortunately, since War of the Outer Gods isn't out yet I don't know who the cover illustrator is and a quick search didn't turn anything up.

Amanda and Grisly Totem 3 (survivor)
Assussanni replied to django042's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
I think that is probably one for the Rules Query form! Given that it requires Teamwork it wouldn't surprise me if the designers hadn't considered this interaction while designing Amanda. If you forced me to pick now, I'd say it ends up in your hand. Grisly Totem returns the card to your hand while Amanda simply says that the card isn't discarded. Returning it to your hand doesn't contradict either of these abilities whereas leaving it under Amanda would contradict Grisly Totem's text. -
The most recent release schedule I've seen, which admittedly is third-hand information posted on BGG, is: November: Ant-Man December: no releases January: Wasp February: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch March: Galaxy's Most Wanted Apparently this was shared with Marvel Champions content creators by FFG and was okayed for sharing with the wider community. I guess only time will tell if it is accurate.

Wendy Adams chaos token cancelling ability
Assussanni replied to cwlborg's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Wendy’s reaction is “when you reveal a chaos token” so it may be used any time that you are revealing a token, not just during skill tests. The triggered ability on Clover Club Cardroom instructs you to “reveal a random chaos token” and is therefore a valid target for Wendy’s redraw reaction. -
Cycle VI: The Innsmouth Conspiracy
Assussanni replied to Antimarkovnikov's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
The most recent example I have is the pdfs for the Marvel Champions Rise of Red Skull expansion, which went up two-and-a-half weeks after the release. MJ Newman has said that there will be an update to the FAQ before the first mythos pack of the cycle releases. It wouldn't surprise me if the rules and campaign log went up at the same time. -
I don't think it is explicitly spelled out in the rules anywhere. The Learn to Play Guide states: "... the location is turned to its revealed side when an investigator moves to it." The use of when could be construed as interrupting the move. However, I don't think this is intentional and I believe the intended order is (1) move to a location and then (2) reveal it. This is based on the fact that Act 2b (v.1) of The Unspeakable Oath looks like it would have problems if the "reveal first then move" interpretation is used. Did you have a specific case in mind? I could only find two examples of where the order matters: one in Return to Blood on the Altar and one in The Unspeakable Oath. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer but it certainly isn't a dumb question!
