As for locations, I'll admit that I don't have specific solutions to them. In general, I'm stuck playing around them, but there aren't that many that I've run into that are must destroy options. Aegon's Hill is the first that comes to mind, though it seems strangely out of favor lately. One thing I did notice was that you don't seem to be well set up in your uniques to handle multiple wipe Plots when it's not your choice of when they go off. As long as you are dictating the flow of the game, you're fine but when it becomes important that you keep a few specific uniques in play, a well timed Valar will do a lot of damage. You have no saves or ways to reply your uniques so, if they get dealt with in any manner (intrigue, raiding or kill) you're not getting that card back for the game.

  3. I have Dragon Fear on Tywin Lannister, Core Set and the The Power of Blood is revealed. I win a Military challenge against that player. Can he choose to have Tywin be "killed" for claim if he can't be killed or must he chose a character that can actually be killed?

Make sure you get the ones that say "Revised" in the description, though I believe only that edition is stocked in retailers now. In my opinion the Martell gives you a better set of cards out of the box, but almost all of them for Martell. To build a good deck for Greyjoy you need to have a lot more cards from the chapter packs. The Greyjoy set gives you some nice cards for the other Houses though, including some decent Kingdom cards. Thanks. I'm looking for it in French but the revised version was never done for the French product. I'll look into getting it in English. Thanks!
  5. I have the core set, some chapter packs, QoD & KotS and am looking to fill out Martell & Greyjoy houses but I've discovered tha the Greyjoy pack is only x60 crads in the expansion and Martell is 2x60 which seems a bit light for the price. Which do you recommend picking up first?

In the US, the insert says that as long as a character with the Melee keyword is participating in a challenge, it gets +1 STR for each participating character controlled by an opponent. So Melee works whether the character is attacking or defending. Could be a translating error, the ranch game, especially the Baratheon delux printing, has be known to be occasionally inexact. The wording I gave was the printed one in French though. LMK if this is incorrect.
  7. I actually know this one!! They are on the insert to Champions chapter packs Joust: if a character with the keyword joust attacks alone, the defending player may not declare more than one character as a defender Melee: as long as an attacker with the keyword Melee participates in a challenge, he gets +1 FOR for every character controlled by an opponent participating in that challenge.

Why would you doubt that "until the end of the phase" means "until the end of the WHOLE phase" for challenges? Is it simply how huge Targ's STR reducers can be over the course of the phase that makes it seem like there should be an out, or is there something else making it seem like each challenge should count as a separate phase? I suppose it's a carry-over from games like Vs System where boosts & effects are generally for that particular fight. My doubt here was whether everyone's challenge phase was a seperate phase and once you passed to the next player to declare his/her challenges the effects from your "phase" of challenges would end. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
  9. There's a pile of cards that say "(does X effect) until the end of the phase". If you're in a challenge and you play one of these effects, will it apply until the end of that particular challenge or until the entire Challenge Phase is finished? I presume it's until the entire phase is finished but I have a doubt. Seems like Targaryen burn is a much more tactical melee weapon if that's the case. Thanks!
  10. Ok, thanks! I thought it was just on attack, but apparently not!
  11. Just starting off here, only playing core set: I attack into the Baratheon player and he defends with Robert Baratheon Core. He wins the challenge. Does he gain renown or is that only when Robert is chosen as an attacker? Thanks! Zimagic
  12. Hi Guys, after lurking for a week or so, I've finally gotten around to our first game of AGoT with the core set and I have a question or two: Power challenges are pretty useless in the first few turns of a game as players have next to no power on their houses. Is this normal? Military & Intrigue are fine as we can always kill characters or discard cards but our Stark player for example has essentially just the Military symbol on his cards as he gains no benefit from a power challenge seeing as we have no power tokens to give him. A question about Deadly. If I have 1 attacking challenger with Deadly and he is unopposed (no defenders), does that satisfy the keywords or does the defender have to defend the challenge in order for the deadly count to come into play? Thanks! Zimagic
