    The Art of Waaagh!

Just wanted to report that the adventure contained in Hero's Call is a hell of a lot of fun! Although the layout once again leaves alot to be desired, it is really a classic, and offers something that GMs really need to make something fun - STAKES! Holding an Orc-seiged castle full of the families the PC's have herded to it while a political battle threatens to tear apart the command structure. And then there is the big reveal, that remeinded me of that old horror film where the cop tells the frightened baby-sitter to hang up the phone and flee because "He is in the house". When I read it, I was not convinced that it would be nearly as fun as it had been, and I found it wierdly over written in some parts (GMs will probably want to drop the goblin with the unneeded fourth "palantir"), while underdeveloped in others… But all and all, as long as you can juggle all of the motivations of the various dramatis personae, pound for pound I feel it is one of the best delivered thus far. I provided an adventure that satified the Battle lust of the shield breaker and the oppurtunity for the Priest of Ranald to assume the identity of the corrupted Steward of the Schusselschloss. Also, while I do love pyrrhic victories - it is nice to occasionally let the PCs win and be Heroes outright. Just don't make a habit of it, and take it all away later! Highly recommended.

    Private Wars

I am starting to run the unofficial campaign from 1st edition in third. The trial and all the social encounters are really easy to convert by just grabbing some cards and setting up track based objectives. If there is interest I can report how it goes. If anyone has done this campaign and has any words of advice - they would be gladly accepted!

    Private Wars

Session one was great! Noelyuk - I am a busy dad so I not bothering to be super exacting with it... I just organize cards for characters and henchmen and used the Lure of Power social combat rules to run the first trial. I own literally every thing for 3rd edition so finding closely related cards hasn't been an issue thus far. I am using the Gods of Law as they are in first edition. I have actually used Solkan in a third edition campaign previously, so they have never been exorcised from my old world!

It's Official: 3rd Ed is done

Well, I enjoyed the hell out of this game, and plan to for some years to come. If the next licensee is smart, they will find a half way point between 2nd and third and start with the Elf supplement that NO edition ever supported...

    A/C/E

So I have decided the limit of one Expertise dice per roll of a enemy is silly and have decided to allow the use of up to 1/3 of their total per roll. How have others handled this?

    TEW - Epilogue or no?

The end is nigh! As the optional epilogue in Enemy is quite trippy and a really unexpected direction, I'm wondering if any other GMs have already run it or if you are planning to... I feel it could be great or else be such a serious change in mood that it may not be the most satisfying ending. Thoughts?

    TEW - Epilogue or no?

Just ended TEW and boy, are my players pissed off! I did the epilogue and got to the part (spoilers) where they THINK they are home... Well they all jump up and down thinking that they are going to rule the empire! Given their incouriousness about anything (there had been beers) I decided that a "isn't it a bit weird" check wasn't really appropriate. Asked them clearly if their intention was to rule the Empire... Affirmative. Three of them fell thralls to Tzeentch with one (the wizard) seeing through it, but unable to defeat the Horrors. This means a TPK really I think. Very unhappy players. It might not have been so bad if I wasn't so delighted they had taken the bait. You have been warned... Not sure if my players will be back!

    A Guide to Grunburg

    Great!
  9. thanks! I am going to seriously power it all down as I am intending to bring total news through it with very few cards/talents etc... in a convention environment. No problem with a TPK at the end though! Love to hear your thoughts on a balanced party for it..
  10. Just gave these three a cursory glance - very interesting stuff! Congrats to the three who have entered! I will obviously honour my pledge (as modest as it is) for the winner. With your permission Emirikol I would like to run "one hand gives" as a demo adventure at Gottacon here in Victoria - it seem to be a good one for it with both combat and social combat as well as being able to go lower powered (until the end!)...

    What the hell are Skaven?

    TEW - Epilogue or no?

Has anyone run the epilogue out there in the wild? Anyone?

    TEW - Epilogue or no?

marketing Emirikol, marketing... I actually think it is a better, funner, and more cohesive campaign that the original (which is my first love, having run it as they were released!)

    Reprinting the Core Set

Great news! I have arranged to do a couple of demos at the new games shop opening in my city... Lets ensure this game continues to have legs...

The gathering storm or The edge of night?

Edge of Night really is fun if you are able to draw out the intrigues of the nobility and contrast the sewers, and can GM a ton of characters. Outside of an excellent Garden of Morr scene - I found GS kinda goofy and slapped together.

    Rolling dice for players

I have a level of trust with my players such that if the fail an intuition roll and I tell them that their PC believes something to be a certain way - they will play it that way. The player is not the character so to speak, so I always let them roll everything so they can feel control and then they can act according to the world as the character sees it.

    Dark Heresy 2nd Edition Beta

JA_42 - I like your gaming philosophy! I also do not want a new version at this time. I don't want a less complex version or one that is more focussed on descriptive and exacting combat (seriously - there are games like Pathfinder if that is your thing). I like and use talent cards, the party card, and range counters and the whole toolbox and it feel it works really well. If I had any advice for FFG (not that they listen) it would be to offer more support to those of us who run demo games at Cons (I am sure I have been responsible for a few new hobbyists) and revise the core set to include the divine and magic supplements and re-release with an actual marketing strategy.

Enemy Within - for GM thoughts, prep ideas etc.

Highly reccomend anyone GMing this to have the Temple of Ulric require a wolf kill per PC and NPC taking part in the ritual! Some really good fun! I also added a an NPC for an "aha" payoff later in Altdorf. He is Willy, a graduate student, and Red Crown member, who has been "helping" Oppenheim with his work. As he is taking part in the ritual, he was there to ensure that each PC killed a wolf, even if he had to grieviously wound it himself first. Later in Altdorf when the Red Crown and PCs tangle, any that die will be Willy, and they will know they (and Oppenheim) were manipulated in a pretty smooth way.
  20. Okay - I pledge a $20.00 Gift card to the winner as well and encourage other to do the same!
  21. I think you could think about crowd sourcing the prize up a bit to raise the stakes. I would be happy to paypal (or something) a further $20 to Emirikol for the gift certificate prize and would challenge those who want to see this go off but haven't the time to submit themselves to do likewise... Would this be welcome Emirikol?

First Time / Which Campaign to run ?

Edge of Night is great but I would suggest starting out with "Witches Song" as it is not as demanding and rather fantastic itself.

R_B - that pamphlet is brilliant - using it tonight!

What are your opinions of The Edge of Night

I thought it was great, very similar to "Power Behind the Throne", but should have been released after the "Lure of Power". Well, now advantage goes to you! It is not for new GMs or for player who like to constantly battle. I found it to be very mature and satisfying to run though you will need to flesh it out alot and make it your own,
