I like the enchantress expansion idea too:)
Trading some trophies at the enchantress for some special cards, like the frog's eye, seer stone or arch mage amulet are some nice idea's.
Thanks Velhart and thanks Jon.
We're very glad you liked our expansion. I still haven't looked through all other ideas but there are many good entries. I can understand that you had a hard time picking a winner, just like we have a hard time understanding that you choose ours.
I hope that more of you guys will like it as well!
Best Regards

I'm not following now, if Player A chooses to take a life after defeating player B I'm pretty sure he can't take any of his possessions as well. Is there an exception if the character is killed…? We always play with the optional rule of inheriting all your possessions so we haven't been in this situation.

Thanks Elliot.

Hi all
Last night we had quite a few strange situations, we solved them all and had no hard feelings but I would like some second oppinons on our solutions.
1. If you encounter a dragon scale at the hall of darkness you move away normally on your next turn since you didn't encounter the space, right...? As the board text says "on your next turn...".
2. Also we agreed that a roll for movement in the hall of darkness doesn't count as a movement roll in the sense that you can use the gilded compass. I think this was what we were most unsure about.
3. We play with the inherit rule concerning objects if your character is killed. This time the Necromancer fell in battle and the Cleric took his place, and therefore the player now was good instead of evil. He was carrying the chalice of darkness when he died, which the cleric obviously can't use. So we said it has to be dropped in the chapel, the clerics starting place. Is this right?
4. And I think there's no problem ditching the hag (or any other "bad" follower) at the Temple of Varthrax.
5. Last If you draw an event such as the rumor of riches (the one when you recive one gold if you roll a 1 in the same region as the card was drawn), do you place it on the space that the character is standing in or do you place it outside the board? Same goes for blizzard, dark denizens and all other event card that are active for at least 1 round of play...? We usually put them outside the board but I've a feeling it's the other way around.
Thankful for any opinions on these matters and hope you all had a chance to play this weekend. We had a blizzard outside so it was a good way to spend the evening.

Go ahead. I think we all can wait another week.

The Enchantress's cheap tricks has been submitted to the competition. It's our first try at this so it would be nice to have some comments on it even though it might not be a winner.

I agree with that. In my world you can only encounter a card once per turn, and extremely rarely two turns in a row.

Don't trim!!!!!!!!!!!
We played over 30 games since I bought the game and have all expansions. Even now we see cards we never encountered in past games and it's really cool and refreshing!
Trimming would attenuate the flavor of this game IMO.
I agree with this, our gaming group never looks through the new adventure cards so I'm not sure I've seen all the cards the game has to offer yet. In one of our last games we had our first encounter with the highland raiders, a nasty surprise indeed...
-
We had the conjurer in one game without the coven and she turned out well there as well. All pools and streams were empty before my character got there and even if it was close enough to be reached on my next die roll, it was moved before I had a shot at it. The only bad thing, which most of the time ain't so bad, is that the conjurer might miss many good cards by focusing on powering up with cards already on the board.
Is it just me or are the expansion characters getting more overpowered with each new expansion...? We always draw two characters at the start of the game and choose which order to play them, and it's rare to see a base game character from the start (except prophetess of course).
-
We just a system where everybode choose numbers between 1 and the maximum number of characters (can't choose same numbers) and then just counts through the character deck and everybody gets their characters and must choose one to play with and one as a reserve in case the first one is killed.
As for favourite character... it depends, if I just want to win the game I would go with Fire Wizard, although there are characters that are more interesting to play with. I prefer characters that can affect the game, and not characters that are affected by the game. I played Dragon priestess a few weeks ago, and I will never do it again. She needs a perfect game to win, but when that happens she will win.

Allright, now I see. You had me confused as well. Thought you meant hag and poltergeist, not poltergeist and herbalist...
Still, for some reason, the odds are never 50/50 to make the die roll.

If you have a Concealed Pouch, and you find the Lodestone, can you insert the Lodestone into the Concealed Pouch, and negate the "two items" effect? Because the pouch says "one object," and the Lodestone is "one object" that simply counts "two to your item limit."
Can you alchemise items in the pouch, and the pouch itself?
Are items in the Concealed Pouch and the pouch itself affected by events like the Whirlwind?
Thanks,
TalismanAttack
As for how the Lodestone counts in the pouch I'm not sure but I would say that you can't store it in your pouch. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
As for the other two questions the answers are positive. You can alchemise what you've in the pouch (as well as alternating which object you're carrying in the pouch. Say that you've a relatively poor object in the pouch and then stumbles on the wand, you might want to put it in the pouch instead of your helmet).
The pouch, as well as the item in it, is, I'm sorry to say, affected by the whirlwind. I think you can find this in the FAQ as well.

Oh, wait, I meant the Poltergeist. Ha! My mistake.
Ah... but Poltergeist is a follower, so you should have discarded it as well as any "good" follower you might have had when the hag decided to join you.
But anyhow, I see your point but I guess that's one of those thing that follows Murphy's law; rolling a 1 whenever there's a chance of turning into a toad or when drinking a potion, rolling a 6 in the vampire tower, always loosing while diceing with death ( I think that's the space most character's have been killed in my gaming group) and trying to get rid of bad followers in the chasm-

So I suppose this means that the Vampiress is pretty much invincible to negative followers. In fact, they're kind of like healing potions, minus the save a follower part.
This really helped, guys.
Bonus Anecdote: I once went to the chasm with a Hag to try and get rid of it. I also had an Herbalist and 3 lives. I rolled for myself, I lost a life. I rolled for the Herbalist, she's dead. I roll for the Hag, she's fine, of course!
I was a bit angry with that result.
Sounds strange having both the herbalist and the hag....

Do we have an end date for the competition yet...? We still haven't found the time to test-play our creation yet but friday seems like the first really positive yet. Hopefully it's not to late to send it in after that. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to send it in un-tested.

With 3-4 players. All expansions, some rule debate/improvising, new characters when you die, and no one doing a dash for the crown until 12+ in at least one stat. Easily 6+ hours. And that is with no break included.
This describes our playing quite well I think. We usually start around 7.30 pm (when the kids are in bed) and usually finish sometime after midnight.
Although, at the few times we play two player games it usually goes alot faster.

Watcher... what kind of back do you envision for the deck? Perhaps just creating a texture background and putting a bit of glitz and symbol in the center might work.
I found a picture on the web which works perfectly as a card back. I think I'm going to go with that and if someone recognices it and doesn't want it to be used I'll change then. But perhaps I look into your idea a bit more anyway, I didn't think about it but it sounds like a simple and working solution. Thanks for the advice.
Otherwise I think we're all done with our "expansion", or whatever it should be called, except that we haven't tested it yet. We want to see if it's balanced before we send it in and hopefully someone will like it. I haven't played all older editions and there were no expansions to the swedish versions but I think it's something new.
-
Ah, found the answer for the first question myself at last. But still how about copyright issues if the expansions are published on Talismanisland or some other website?
-
We're working on something here right now but we're quite new to this StrangeEons buissness and can use some help with a few issues.
Is it possible to change the back of the card to a picture of your own? It would be nice as we're making a new deck? For the moment we're using the Talisman back and it doesn't seem quite right.
Also, we're no painters, but I don't know how people create their home brew expansions now anyway. Do you use pictures from the internet or do you make your own?
I know this is not a problem for this competition but still it would be interesting to know. Hopefully will be able to try our idea this weekend or the next. I think it's quite difficult to know if it's balanced or not without trying it.
Thanks in advance for all help and a really good idea for a competition. I'm quite new to both this forum and the Talismanisland home page, but I'm sure happy they exist.

I propose a simpler solution, you can get all followers killed or discarded, but she can get their only ones. For example St. Josefine: Player A discard her to recover his life and the valkyr resurrected her, when the valkyr will use her she can't resurrect St. Josefine again.
This is how we usually play her as well. When another character sacrifices/uses S:t Josephine, fateful hound etc it's ok to resurrect them, but if the valkyrie does the sacrificing she can't resurrect them. We thought this sounded logic anyway.
Too bad we didn't get the much expected information in the new FAQ.

In our games it usually happens when characters have much fate. But at least when the chances are even to succeed on a roll you really want to make.
Yes, it might cost you a fate and a lucky charm, but sometimes it saves you the use of both of them as well.
-
Other ways to speed up the game might be to begin with an object from the purchase deck, begin with extra strength/craft, auto-kill each turn (or at least lose life on lower die rolls) at the CoC, choose to heal OR replenish fate at the chapel and graveyard (or buy them if you're neutral).
But I'm with Velhart at removing cards, I think they might speed the game up as they make you move on. Anyway, if you really don't want them you can throw destruction at them.

Today my six year old spilled his lemonade all over the rule book.

That's not so good.
I have ruled that nobody may drink at the table.
You can rule to take a break after 1 hour etc and sit somewhere else to drink something.
We have ruled that nobody may have drinks ON the table so we bring extra chairs and other things to put our drinks on
as I had the same experience with another game having a glass of water spilled over it, ruining parts of it...

When we only had the base game we used to remove the amulet and the wand when playing with three players, as one would end up with the wand, one with the amulet and the third would be the victim, otherwise we've always played with all the cards. Now, that I've all the expansions and the adventure is almost four times as big, not counting dungeon, highland and dragon cards, we get new cards every game anyway. As we never look through the decks when the game is new, I'm not even sure that I've seen every card the game has to offer. Still I can see your point with marsh and maze, especially in later parts of a game. But I would recommend doubling the card decks with a small box expansion instead.

By the way, it would be nice to have the list of entries completed with forum user name's because here people are more known under there alias.
Hopefully that's possible.
