Josep Maria reacted to Desslok in Forum closing? Got a thread you like? Send it to archive.org!
If there are any threads you are super attached to and would hate to see fly off into the void, might I recommend submitting them to archive dot org: https://archive.org/web/ - via their Save Page Now functionality. It'll capture a thread as it stands now and keep it for posterity. I've submitted a few of mine, going back through my old posts - so while it's not a functioning forum, it'll work in a pinch.

Josep Maria reacted to drainsmith in After the Forums are Gone
My first effort to save things is going to be the grab the files for everything linked in the Master Resources thread. Anything in there I'm going to take as permission to re-host the latest version available. If there is a link to external hosting (OneDrive, Google Drive, etc) I will provide the link as well as the latest file available. I won't be updating on my own. If you have anything in that list and don't want it hosted by me, please let me know. If your file updates at some time in the future and would like me to update it, please let me know. If you ever want it taken out of there, please let me know.
Everything will be available in the Community Content section of my Dropbox Dispensary. Each item gets its own folder named for the title and author (as best as I can determine). I will only get things that can be downloaded. I won't be trying to scrape disparate comments in threads or trying to get gmbinder to work.
Additionally, I'll be taking @DarthDude's FAQ thread and hosting it in my Dropbox. I'm going to look at seeing what needs updated from the last version of the PDF he posted and also redoing the layout for it to match official Genesys styling.
If there is anything else you believe absolutely needs to be saved, please let me know. My dropbox link will be available for as long as I'm alive and probably for a while after that.
There are plenty of other places you can go to talk about Genesys and share files. I know not everyone likes these, but they work well for what they are and keep us going until Edge spins up their own forum.

Josep Maria reacted to Sear_Clone in Thank You
In response to the Forums shutting down next year, I was not sure if that means we simply will not be able to post anymore, or if we wont be even able to view these forums anymore.
Either way, I realize that I wanted to thank everyone for helping me in my journey to be a great GM for my friends. I really think I wouldn't have confidence for my campaign to be on the level I aim for, without you guys. So I want to say a special thank you to you guys who helped shape my GM style, and a thank you to everyone else for making me feel so welcome to the community even though I am a newer member. Every like and thanks made me feel more confident in my capabilities as a GM. I am sad to see these forums go.
A special thank you to:
@P-47 Thunderbolt, for teaching me to condense and simplify, and offering your experienced advice on my ideas.
@Archlyte, thank you for your encouragement, without it I wouldnt have felt like I could continue to ask for help on these forums. Your warm welcome and words made me really feel like a member of the community.
@BrickSteelhead, thank you for supporting my approach, it showed me that while I still have a lot of work to do, I can still manage it if I remain focused on my vision.
@Ricas Chumm , thank you for offering your resources. You showed me that I could organize the info in a pleasing way that is easy to read, and will cut down my time looking at stats, and focus more time on roleplaying.
@Fl1nt, thank you for offering your resources too. It showed me, like Ricas Chumm, I really can do more with less.
@Rimsen , thank you for offering your advice, and helping me understand that I can use other sources to help me create rules. Because of this, it helped me link that I can use other sources like the animated clone wars show to help me direct the plot, which has helped me more than you will ever know.
@salamar_dree , thank you for helping me see that my cheatsheet needs to be double checked for accuracy. It has helped me see several mistakes that would have been a major problem otherwise.
@player5857008, thank you for letting me step back and see how I am approaching my own campaign, as trying to help you made me analyze my own tactics and approaches to things.
Thank you to everyone for continuing to support and guide me through a GM's journey.
I will think about the lessons I have learned here, and continue to grow as a GM.
I will honor the memory of each and every one of your lessons through each and every smile and laugh at my gametable when I finally get behind that GM screen.
Thank you, Everyone.

I almost forgot to say it: Cara Dune is awesome.
That "my gun is jammed!" scene was hilarious. Did her blaster sound different to anyone else?

Josep Maria reacted to P-47 Thunderbolt in The Mandalorian Season 2! [Spoilers]
This is the way...
Was it just me, or did those shuttle pilots sound ever so slightly German? Excellent scene. Why don't they take that shot more often?
(don't needlessly antagonize the person holding you at gunpoint, Imperial German pilot guy)
Where's Axe Woves? They just booted him out of the story without any sort of explanation. My guess is that they just had to limit the number of characters and he was the first on the chopping block.
The fight between Reeves and Fett, eh, it was okay. I have mixed feelings about it, but that scene... MY HEADCANON IS VINDICATED! Boba is dar'manda, Jango was a Mandalorian at least for a while.
That poor dumb deck officer, just standing in the way of the incoming shuttle and not moving until the last minute. Haven't you watched any holovids?
The whole scene in the ship was excellent, but WHY DID YOU NEED TO WALK SO SLOWLY!? Mando's just taking a quiet stroll, casually walking through the hangar. Bit him in the beskar butt later on.
Fighting the dark troopers was pretty cool, though I thought they moved a bit slowly. Oh, yes, I remember something. Phase I and II confirmed! They canonized dark troopers, and in a manner comparable to Legends. Makes my cold metal heart very happy.
I do have a couple quibbles with the design:
You couldn't give them bigger guns? I really wanted to see the plasma shell cannon. They seemed a bit... intellectually challenged. Robot zombies. The constant punching works well psychologically, but is pretty inefficient. I'd have given them wrist-mounted cutting torches. Admittedly, that wouldn't have worked especially well against the blast door, but then maybe they could start punching things. Just imagine what R2 could do in one of those suits!
As I predicted, Gideon and Mando fought, Darksaber vs. beskar staff. I was pretty sure that's how the "Bo Katan wants the Darksaber" thing would end up, and had mixed feelings about it. We'll have to see where it goes from here, but at least it probably means we'll be seeing more Mandos.
Always something that makes my cold metal heart very happy indeed.
(Hmmm, maybe my cold metal heart has transmogrified into beskar by now...)
They also confirmed that I was right and the whole "Mandalore kablooie" thing was Imperial propaganda.
I think the whole "you can't just give it to me" has to do with Bo Katan having lost it.
When Gideon shot Bo Katan, I was going "Is someone going to check on her? Is someone going to check on her? If they kill her off and we don't get anyone checking on her, I'm going to be displeased. Oh, she's fine. Nevermind, I guess."
That's the Luke I remember. The uncharacter-assassinated one. Was it just me, or did he not have a cleft in his chin until he lifted the hood? Might've been a trick of the light. They did an excellent job. There's always the flaws inherent in the process of using CGI to make someone who looks real, but they did a pretty good job.
Lastly, Boba taking Jabba's palace. I thought it was canon that old greasy lekku got forcibly converted to the B'omarr order. Eh, it's still a good Twilight Zone story. I'll be interested to see where they go with Boba in this.
I have spoken.

Josep Maria reacted to Nytwyng in The Mandalorian Season 2! [Spoilers]
About 10 minutes or so into the episode, I turned to my son (who’d already watched it) and said that, given the episode’s title and the speculation on which Jedi might have heard Grogu’s call, it would be cool if Luke showed up and said, “I’m Luke Skywalker. I’m here to rescue you.”
When that lone X-wing showed up, I then shouted, “Was I f*&<!|~ right?”
Then later, when he walked onto the bridge, I was just saying, “Say the line, Bart!” 🤣

Josep Maria reacted to BipolarJuice in The Mandalorian Season 2! [Spoilers]
It looked like they cut scenes of him out of Jedi and pasted them over a body double. It looked both bad and good at the same time but also looked awkward when he spoke. Still, I am very glad they finally did right by the character and by the actor.

Now that was Star Wars! I can't think of anything I'd change about that episode.

The duel;
The Book of Boba Fett;
The Jedi.

Josep Maria reacted to whafrog in Have any GMs experimented with different spec costs?
It's functionally identical. Same dice odds, skill progression, character baselines, etc. It's just a bit more customizable, and dispenses with some of the straight-jackets like spec trees (though there's nothing stopping a player from following a basic spec progression if they like).

Josep Maria reacted to False God in Have any GMs experimented with different spec costs?
I don't think there's really an issue here until people start picking up their 8 or 9th tree and spending near a base 100xp for a tree.
A cap of 50xp/60xp in-career/out-of-career might be a reasonable middle ground.
In all honesty I question a lot of out-of-career tree/skill taxes in this game.
-
Josep Maria reacted to Mark Caliber in Have any GMs experimented with different spec costs?
I have not changed the cost for new talent sheets and I'm keeping it as is, to help the players to specialize in their talents.
The PC's currently are hitting between 1,800 - 2,000 EXP each and they can earn between 20 - 30 Exp per session. So if they WANT to diversify their talents, they can save up those EXP over a couple of sessions.
I think having the rule as is, is a good idea, especially when you have monster PC's (like mine) because the converse issue is that if you let your PC's grow to epic levels of awesome, the ability to diversify can lead to the problem that the PC's no longer differentiate in capabilities.
On a separate issue, I may have a crew of Ace Pilots among my PC's of 'Special Operators.' The only thing making the dedicated Pilots unique are their talent trees.
Still, after a month or so, each of the other Players COULD pick up those talent trees . . .
Yep, with copious experience, I highly recommend NOT altering this particular rule.

Josep Maria reacted to kaosoe in Have any GMs experimented with different spec costs?
At our table, I have a long standing house rule of no XP tax for additional specs. In-career and Universal are always a flat 20xp and out of career is always a flat 30 xp. It hasn't broken our games. That said, my players aren't the type to pile on specs. They like to find a niche and focus on that.
