Genesys doesn't have Specializations that you have to buy, but repeated purchases of talents increases the tier, so while the first Toughened may only cost 5 XP, the next costs 10 XP, then 15 XP, and eventually  any further will cost you 25 XP (along with needing sufficient "base" to your pyramid) so it has its own form of balance built in. SW tuled to do away with Specialization costs risks having certain based talents picked up in large numbers on the cheap by skimming the least expensive rows of multiple Specializations.

Yes but also the main difference. Spec costs doesn't give (directly) any benefit. So you spend XP for in a future begin to build your char. In Genesys, expensive at higher tiers yes, but each purchase gives you a benefit, not just a requirement.

Two differents and interesting models sincerely. By the way, when we converted is was impossible to convert it fully legal because those high XP PC had above:

    8 T1 / 9 T2 / 14 T3 / 12 T4 / 9 T5 Talents

In other cases the effect was the same.

  2. Costs aren't so high I believe. In general therms PC use to pick (as an average) between 2 and 4 specs (signature apart of course). Just 3 PC's till the moment picked more than 4 specs. Not everything are talents if do you want to justify "my character knows about mechanics". Thats a discussión we had a few times.

Sometimes a good ability score and a few ranks are pretty enough. And I'm speaking about even long therm games with more than 2400XP PC's.

By the way, we are converting SW to Genesys PC's (no spec trees) an personally, I love it so much, even I prefer it.

So give a try to Genesys, maybe it fits you better ;)

    Hope it helped! :D

  3. In our 15 years game from SW we made a conversion to Genesys, about a 2.455 XP PC. As Sturn said is just a "guide" to get an easy-view access to your talents, but there is no real need of that sheet. Remember that main campaigns (based on peoples answers) go from 400 to 700 XP aproximatelly, and a few ones achieve 1000 XP (info from SW not Genesys).

In one Genesys supplements exists the "Heroic Abilities" (?) that is a initial skill that evolves for every 50 XP obtained. Is the most aproximated to Signature Ability. This Heroic skill, considering upgrade caps, stops evolving above 400 XP, so feel free to create new ones based on signature or create more "heroic skills".

SW/Genesys progression is more a trapezoid than a pyramid itself. A character advance uses to be top in a pair or three skills and goes lower on the rest. In our games tha main PC have 3 maxed skills (with maxed talents) and the rest are a lot of diverse talents and skills achieved not at max level.

    Hope it helped :D

  4. Oh and consider to add, if there are just one or two players, and aditional dice to the starting destiny pool.

Good luck with the game and enjoy ;)

This type os games use to be more personal and character focused. My main games are just with one player, and personally I love them!

EDIT: My solo game is a more than 15 years game session XD

Whoops i meant as player characters XD

Oops you mean talents ok XD There are some good talents that can "emulate" those "classes", but yes,it can be pretty good idea. But remember that in Genesys initial class only means what initial class skills you got.

    Hope it helped ;)

  6. I mean, if a tie laser shot deals 4x10 of damage, a +2 or +3 doesn't care so much XDDD

Apart I'm a lucky GM and my players don't get jelous between them XD Everyone knows its role. Guys with blue lightsabers fights the ones with reds, the ones with blaster fight the white dressed ones and so on. When we create rules in our games we don't care about balance or "jealosy". We understand that the main goal in our games is to build a awesome collective story, that this isn't a confrontation between players an GM or who has more dices on X skill. As I said I'm a lucky master.

Also we restrict talents to "scene justifications". We cannot take a talent in our games just because we got de XP. Are full consensus sessions.

But as Donovan said, rules are not perfect, but try it first, they are pretty good, and feel free to houserule them if you need it.
