Ragh!  I was counting on getting the final chapter to Dream-Eaters so I could start it while "grounded."

My partner and I are going to do a mini campaign with the 4 scenarios on the 'dreaming' side of the campaign. Might tide us over for a bit. I still have work during the week so I won't have as much time to kill as some folks are going to have. But maybe that would work for you if you don't mind not playing the full suite first.

Seeing as people (myself included) are buying novellas for alternate investigators and a short story which can be bought for a few dollars in pdf, I think this investigator pack will be an even better buy than that.

I disagree. Novellas take much longer to write and edit than I think deck construction and some new cards take to design. Not saying it isn’t difficult but it does not take the same amount of time. I felt the novella pricing was completely fine. Stories are valuable.

  3. If they do include a scenario, I’m full steam ahead. I think the rumbled assurances about keeping campaigns in mind however might just be a nod toward xp cards being included for the decks. After all, if you grabbed a starter as a noob and didn’t have many or any other products, your upgrade options would be limiting the accessibility.

I doubt there will be scenarios but boy would I love the heck out of these if there were. Without them I think I’m going to be fairly annoyed that either I will have to get them all for new player cards or just have a ton of repeat cards with no easy way to remember how many copies of each card I actually own.

The livestream can’t come soon enough.

Hmm - I wonder if he is meant to be the guy swinging the punch on Brute Force...

My thought exactly. I think Mimi is correct with a survivor type class. Brute force seems like it is a perfect fit as well as stunning blow, not without a fight, able-boded...etc. Especially if his weapon choices are intentionally limited.

I don't think we can really type him without a background story though. We've got nothing about his motivations. Guardians are out to protect others most of the time, rogues are less so (but with all the money options in rogue, I wouldn't expect him to go in this category unless he's 'throwing fights' or involved in illegal fights). I don't think we'll see a typical secondary. I would expect another trait based build. Maybe innate?

  5. I don’t think it says anything about the health of the game. During the AMA it was pretty clear it’s a strong product line. I almost wish this wasn’t “leaked” without having any details but on the plus side maybe we’ll see our fave investigators faster. Like Stella who I’m already considering a favorite haha.

The speculation is driving me mad.

Got to love those scheduled posts.

Is Nathaniel a new character, or has he appeared in the Arkham Files setting before?

He's new. Looks to be a boxer. Interesting.

The term 'starter deck' has me a bit concerned. Is this going to be 30 cards that already are released? Am I going to want to pay $10 or whatever for an investigator when I already have all of the cards in the deck? Do I really want extra copies of some cards but not others? Having had just 1 core for a long time, the worst part about it is when I had multiple decks constructed, I could never remember if I had 1 or 2 copies of a given card and it became confusing to quickly locate cards (the set icon helps with this, but will each starter have their own set icon?).

Are we going to see new cards that are ONLY released in certain investigator packs, thereby making us buy a specific investigator to gain access to a new card? So many questions.

I would have preferred an investigator with a signature scenario to this (I think...I'll wait until I have more info before committing to this).

I picked up only the Core Set and I've been really enjoying it... yet at the same time I've not yet felt any compulsion to buy any of the individual packs that they've released. I think it is much, much easier to dip in to and out of than Arkham Horror, buying only what interests you. At least that's been my experience so far. If they start releasing X-Men expansions I may end up very poor, very quickly...

X-men is the only Marvel I’m interested in if I’m honest. Well maybe I’ll have room by then...

If I were to design an investigator-specific product release for AH-TCG, it would have a 'gator who was already (or yet to be) released in an expansion, but with alternate signature cards, like in the novella promos. And it wouldn't include many other player cards. It would include a single scenario tailored to that 'gator and leveraging their personal history. Other 'gators could come along: it would still play 1-4, but that particular one would be necessary.

This is almost exactly what I did with the Jenny scenario I created (I called them signature scenarios). The problem is that if players don’t use that class or like the investigator specifically, sales could be largely variable.

Unfortunately I don’t have the time or resources to make like 50 of these ha!

Speaking of releases, how is yours coming?

It’s up on bgg but am waiting for the Arkham Central listing and will put a post up here. Ideas for scenario 2 are coming along but will probably be some time before that one is ready to test at all. Hoping people enjoy scenario 1! Maybe it’ll give some people something to do while socially distancing and waiting for news.

Would anyone really be against new investigators making their debut in the LCG? I mean, we've just recently Stella the Letter Carrier debut in the board game - why not have more launch in the card game?

Sefina Rousseau was launched in the card game, so there is already precedent. It's completely possible we'll see more.

Is it just me, or does it seem like a weird expansion to release Ash Can and Duke in? Gives a whole new meaning to being a drifter!
The art is amazing. Isn’t that Ithiqua? Now I’m really getting anxious for the Innsmouth release.

"Drifter" indeed. Ash Can is actually a native of Kingsport so he does fit in locally in this case too, but does he really ever 'fit in' anywhere?

  12. Or since she’s a mail carrier maybe she has extra mobility or can take a free draw or resource action for someone at her location.

Look what came in the Mail for you Wendy! A brand new old hunting rifle!

And by came in the mail I mean got lost in the mail... ooops!

I expect a tactic or seeker off class. Shortcut just makes too much sense.

FFG Live just announced the first big box expansion for AH3e (Under Dark Waves) which add Innsmouth and Kingsport tiles and stories to the game.  And that's great and I look forward to it, however, that's the news that affects us:

New investigator: Stella Clark, the Mail Carrier!  A survivor with a Delivery Truck as her signature card.

Yes! She looks awesome, and more representation for black trans people/gamers. I hope they bring her to the LCG.

Her backstory is Kingsport-y so I don’t know if it would tie on with Conspiracy...

I know this post was a million years ago, but how did Edmund turn out? I also seem to remember that you also were looking for test players recently. We would be interested, if that is still an option.

    Thanks for asking Mimi!

I'm actually very close to submitting scenario 1 of my campaign that I'm working on. I'm just working on some typo clean-up and I think it'll be good to go. I've gotten mostly positive feedback on the most recent version. You are more than welcome to give it a run through and let me know what you think. I like reading your posts and analysis of cards etc, and I would be grateful. I'll pm you the print&play files after i read through them gain for final typos.

I actually didn't use Edmund in the campaign because we already had a rogue and with double the investigator decks, the cross-over made it difficult to keep building/changing decks. But I think balance-wise, he's in a good place. I designed him prior to Finn, but they fill similar roles. I don't know when/if I'll be releasing updates to my custom investigators because there are just a small handful of the 8 that I'm struggling with. There are probably 3 or so that just don't feel right. There's nothing wrong with them, but they don't feel like they offer a solid identity to the pilot.

Anyway, I'll pm you the scenario print and play files later today. I have TTS (table top simulator) but I still haven't fully worked out how to design a scenario mod on there.

It could be either.  We are due for a new cycle announcement given historical precedent.

Also given the news today maybe the new product is a Dead Of Winter crossover.

That would be bizarre, haha. I was pretty shocked that plaid hat lost DoW though. It’s kinda what they built themselves on. Anyway, jokes aside, I wonder if we might see an Arkham Files adventure book game? I think FFG got that line from plaidhat too?

I’d be very happy to look at that deck build.

This deck stands up better in multiplayer where you really have someone else available to handle the enemies.

I created this lvl 0 deck to start from, but I'm actually thinking a magnifying glass may have ended up being more useful than the Occult Lexicon (which was kind of my emergency enemy management and barely saw play). The text to the side outlines some of the strategy, but a few cards were replaced since it was written. Connect the Dots was a fun idea, but it was just too resource expensive to bother with, and was replaced with a 2nd inquiring mind.

The idea is to use the archaic glyphs guiding stones in concert with her free spell actions from doom to rocket through locations by picking up a ton of extra clues using torrent of power fueled by alchemical transmutation charges, inquiring minds, and enraptured to continue putting more charges on guiding stones. Similarly, you'll eventually be able to pick up arcane insight to lower the shroud on the target location further, and time warp to redo a botched attempt.  And if another investigator has a copy of the Skeleton Key, all the better...

My end deck looked something like this:

The biggest issue is that picking up somewhere around 6 clues in one free action is completely overkill if you are playing in 2 player mode, where most locations only spawn 4-6 clues max.

Marie is one of my favorite mystics... it's actually a pretty close tie between her and Luke. Those free spell casts just feel so good, and Knowledge is Power is amazingly powerful no matter how you build her.

NOTE: Don't forget that Forbidden Knowledge can be great at using to clear allies with doom on them. No matter how you build your deck, if the doom is going on allies, having a copy or two of this card to take our Renfield, the Initiate, or Alyssa at the last moment is very handy.

Overlord could work in the sense that it plays out like competitive LOTR.  Having a customized scenario complete with Ancient One.  It would have to be strictly stand alone.  I can't see how this idea would tie into a campaign.

This could offer new deck building challenges.  Create the ultimate scenario and test your deck building skills to overcome the Elder God.

I hear all that but then why not just create a new competitive Arkham files lcg? It feels like that would be practically an entirely new game to me. Maybe AH LCG 2nd edition. But I wouldn’t buy it.
