I'm not sure how starting equipment is selected is covered in the manual. I THINK it is randomized via the app? But the Flux Stabilizer is listed as Kate's ability on her card ("You begin the game with the Flux Stabilizer"). I'm not sure there is a "list" of what each character's starting equipment is (if it is static per investigator).

Maybe I just missed it, as I've only seen the investigator cards in the previews and not in any particularly fine detail. I do know the flux stabilizer is listed as Kate's ability just as Rita's ability is listed as "You can move an additional space when taking the movement action" or however it is worded.

Just ignore starting equipment for the character you selected in the app and use the starting equipment for the character you are actually playing.  The 2E game comes with the conversion kit with the investigator cards for every investigator in 1E, so there shouldn't be any problems proxying.

Unless of course the required starting equipment is a card that's only available in the 1E product and not part of the conversion kit.

Does it actually tell you the characters' starting items anywhere? Besides the special ones?

  2. Oof, thanks. That might be my problem. I don't know what version of the Fire I have, but it is old. I might have to update to a newer one soon anyway. Appreciate the confirmation because when I search for it as of yesterday, it didn't show it. Just some weird game about a lonely girl, thieves, and a mansion? LOL.

  3. This is going to be available in the amazon app store as well, yeah? I'd really like to have it on my kindle fire, but it isn't available as of yet. I think I read that it was, but just checking so I know what I need to play when I get my copy asap. I have it on my desktop, but it's a little unwieldy.

  5. No, the app allows you to select which 1E sets you have as a whole. If you do not select a 1E set, you cannot select the investigators from that set. However, if you DO select the set, the tiles the app suggests will include the tiles from that set in the possible generated map.

I don't know what on the app is investigator specific to be honest because as far as I could tell, the only thing the selected investigator changed was starting equipment access (though I didn't spoil most of any scenario while digging around. I suppose there could be specific dialogue or something?).

It MIGHT be possible to use a proxy IF you know what starting equipment the chosen investigator uses and if that equipment does not have a component ability that the app needs access to. For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't use Kate as she allows you to start with the unique Flux Stabilizer (not sure what this does). If it changes the way monster/mythos are generated then that would be problematic as the app wouldn't know you had the item.

Until we have a better idea of what encounters the investigators affect and what their starting equipment options are, I don't think there's an easy answer except wait for FFG to re-release them with expansions.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. It's hard to explain it if you haven't actually seen the app yet.

  6. I'm excited based on the bit of the app I looked at. It looks very narrative driven. To the point that I wonder how much the conversion kit will actually increase the replay value. I'm very excited to go through multiple times either way with different investigators. It sounds like mythos effects and other bits change based on what actions you have taken during the course of the game.

Also, there are unnamed "persons" to talk to that I imagine are randomly generated for each scenario, perhaps with different dialogue. I expect core encounters to remain the same though.

And seeing that if an investigator is eliminated the game ends and there is a unique epilogue, I expect some of the harder scenarios will have me playing multiple times just to actually win! I am so happy that they decided to make death/insanity game-ending. I can't wait for those encounters where a healthy Rita Young is supporting a grievously wounded Gloria Gouldberg as she hobbles down the streets of Innsmouth chased by a Goat Spawn. After all, Rita has to SAVE Gloria, or they both fail and the game ends.

It's going to make for some reaaaaaaally intense coop, imo.

    AH! Can't WAIT.

  7. There's nothing saying 2E will take as long as 1E either. Set-up and puzzle set-up has been extremely streamlined. I'd expect the game to move faster since there aren't any Keeper actions (and the decisions that go along with those) as well.

But yeah, nobody could really say what would happen if the app crashes. Ideally, it won't. And if it's the hardware that is the problem, you'll probably have to get new hardware or use your CPU since the app will be available via Steam.

This could be Barnabas Marsh, and one of the scenarios is "escape from Innsmouth," I think it is likely. I hear that Barnabas Marsh is one of the only monster minis they haven't release for purchase so far.

I'm pretty sure this is a ghost.  The mini in the MoM2e picture is the exact miniature model as the ghost in the Arkham Horror Line.  One of the fatter minis is likely Barnabas Marsh, as he is described as being so far advanced that he could no longer close his bulging fish eyes.

True, haha. I'm just trying to hold onto the hope that the mini collection will be completed for those who were hoping for a full set.

    Jacob Marley?

Great now we can have H.P.Lovecraft's Christmas carol.

(EDIT: These are the minis that were never available from what I can gather, Barnabas Marsh, Deep One Hybrid, Priest of Dagon, Star Spawn.  Star Spawn looks like it has been confirmed so the others would not surprise me)

  10. The fan expansions 8 thematic investigators, 16 Custom Investigators and Lovecraft Country Horror both featured a selection of archetypes that weren't really explored in AH. The latter even had a priest and a butler (albeit the latter having more than a passing resemblance to the works of PG Wodehouse rather than H P Lovecraft). See https://neilscuriosityshop.wordpress.com/arkham-other-material/investigators/#_8ThematicInvestigators

Angelina and Alexander Thorne were two of my faves (incidentally I made the 8 thematic ones). Angelina's mechanics always oozed with flavor; there is something about corruptions that feel very impactful on theme. Thanks for sharing.

  11. To be honest, they all seem a little too "on the nose" in my opinion. I'd rather see a spiritualist or a spirit medium/con artist (as there were many during the 20's) than a parapsychologist (a term that sounds relatively "new" to me) and "Millionaire" seems a bit bland whereas Jenny Barnes's 'dilettante' seems more apt somehow. The priest is fitting, but we already have Sister Mary. I hope the backstories are good. I can't even recall if Mansions has much a backstory listed for the investigators anywhere. It's been a while since I played it.

Happy to see new investigators, but until we see more about them, they don't feel like they mesh with the existing ones somehow (at least to me). Maybe over time they will. I've just spent so much time with the old crew that maybe the newbies would all feel this way despite their backgrounds.

  12. It seems like everyone with even a +2 or +3 weapon is just as good at auto killing 1-2 health monsters as the handcuffs, plus you can hurt tougher monsters.

Like, psychic/violinist with a revolver/.45 I would take over Tony and his S&M gear any day.

Just looked at the results page. Tony is next to last at 46%!

I don't understand how Azathoth stands as the 3rd hardest ancient one

Fair enough, but I get some really awful die rolls sometimes. Plus, there are some monsters with harder combat modifiers that only have 2 health. Let's you ignore that added hurdle or assuredly remove monsters with nasty reckonings. Totally understand where you're coming from though.

  13. Nope. It's a good point though. My group always uses 4 investigators and splits them (even with uneven players, such as a 3 person game) simply because it's the "sweet spot" for many of the games mechanics.

I'm not sure how you would balance him other than making it trigger the entire damage on each investigator, but that seems like it would make him much harder.

  14. Are you sure about this? I didn't think this was the case. But I previously have added modifiers at the end so would have never had an issue either way as bonuses are never negative. I was nearly positive you could not go below 1 during any part of your calculation for your roll. I've clearly been confused before on the subject so you could be entirely right. I thought each individual total could never be less than one before modifiers/additional bonuses were added.

I hope you are right because that means I haven't really been doing much wrong after all. I'm going to have to go back through my rulebook to see if I can pick it apart further. I have ideas in my head about what constitutes the rules but could not pinpoint exactly where they came from because it's been so long since I thought I needed to reference anything. Thanks for the heads up.

  15. @ Mike... I think the Aussies needs some more love, haha. I'm not particularly fond of Patrice either. Just as fellow Aussie Silas does, Patrice looks quite good on paper, but for some reason she always struggles while on the board for me. I think maybe it's because her main ability triggers on closing gates, but she doesn't really have any good way to get from one gate to another unless she gets lucky and they just open around her. If you could combine Patrice and Silas to make some kind of super marine-famed showgirl, they/she would be so much better, haha.

  16. Wow... thank you. I apparently have been incorrectly adding my test modifiers after adding my bonuses this entire time. I don't know where I got that idea, but that is going to make a huge difference on tests with modifiers for characters who have 1 in any given stat... or sometimes even a 2.
