My main complaint is that the attachment that falls off to easily.  Lose an intrugie or power challenge plus normal attachment hate and or blanking; that's a pretty low bar, so whoever you steal will be going right back to it's owner next turn.  It's basically a crappy military version of seductive promise.  Anyway that's my take.

As far as Targ being over powered have you seen incinerate?  That's almost an auto kill, for one influence.  With all the terminal effect and strength reduction that have been added to Targ burn, I have a feeling there will be some restrictions coming soon.

I think the thing most people forget about burn is that alot of the time its behaviour is no different then any other kill card. Is Incinerate brutal? Sure but so is No Quarter. The former requires a multi-card set up to completely rub out a medium sized character, the latter requires a unique and a military win to kill anything (which might be then saved). Neither is hard to pull off but Narrow Escape and the Hand's Judgement laughs at both of them anyways.

Further, this CP has 3 different cards that can stop Incinerate (and other cards). Is this the only cancel we'll see or the tip of the iceberg?

I'm not gonna deny that I find Ward amusing because I like stupid Mind Control tricks. I rate most Heroclix characters in the same way. I might like it a little too much because of constantly seeing KoF with huge stacks of power on him. Out of Stark, it tends to behave as an additional "kill" card further reducing your opponent's defenses even if its only temporary.

With the way I play Targ anyone who's a threat to gain power does not last long. Also warded early game is not good as it's to easy for an opponent to get the character back, so it's a semi dead card until late game when you've either got your opponent locked down or as you said steal a character with enough power to win you the game.  So it's a closer, but it feels to situational and/or fragile.

So? Its an option that can do interesting things. Instead of looking it as "I can wreck stuff", you can now say "I can farm my opponent". I am thinking that all of these new burn cards don't necessarily make Targ overpowered but makes them fairly unpredictable instead.

Further, its also an option for Stark. They wreck you with Siege and then swipe a character from you in the process.

@ Rubinon: I am not sure that discarding the ward causes control to revert back to the ownerer.  Attaching the ward gets you control, but there's nothing about the wording that requires the attachment to remain in play to keep control.

     (3.26) Duration of Control Change
Note that attachments that grant control effects end when the attachment granting control leaves play.

Thanks for finding that in the FAQ. Makes warded less than useful in a Targ deck, might as well finish the character off if they're already at 2 or less.

Why would I finish a character off when I can just take him and his power?

  5. Jaqen killing the wrong people - Random Retainers of the Lannisters who have no bearing of the plot

Arya being Tywin's cupbearer, not Rooses - /Shrug. What hasn't occurred may still occur.

No Tully's - Edmure, Blackfish, no Riverrun -  Disappointing but fixing up another whole castle set and adding a tonne of characters costs money. May still appear anyways.

Jon and Ygritte, no idea what's going on there. - Superficial change is superficial. Ygritte is more than happy to try and seduce a Night's Watchmen. Jon is uncomfortable with killing an unarmed female prisoner. Just like the books.

Dany far more mad and angry than she ought to be at this point, having her dragons stolen and her handmaidens murdered? what was that all about? how are wer ever going to have the brilliant "It is NOT known" moment during the Mereen pit fights) - Targ's are angry. Doesn't mean she won't check her head later. Maybe she what she needs is a big acid trip.

Reeds? - What matters is that Bran goes North of the Wall with Hodor.
    Osha? - See above.

Asha? - Yara Greyjoy has successfully captured Deepwood Motte. Will make fun of Theon after she bumps uglies with Qarl the Maid.

Devan? - That Davos dude has way too many kids. Probably can't even keep track of them himself.

Clansmen? - Threatening to cut off Pycelle's **** and feed it to the goats. Settles for beard. Unsure if that's fed to the goats.

Florents? - Got sacrificed to Rh'llor off screen.

Selyse (locked in a tower? wtf??), Shireen? - Hey they mentioned Selyse. No one wants to look at a mustached lady anyways.

What's Littlefinger upto? well, we know in full detail because it's being shown scene-by-scene, please leave your imagination or ability to be surprised at the door. - Would you prefer dramatic narration from a PoV character?

Tulisa????? (Jeyne?) - "Hi, Mom. I just porked a random plot device. What do you mean there's no romance and she has no personality because we're not PoV characters?"

Alton Lannister - **** blonde bastards. They're everywhere.

Bronn of the Goldcloaks, later married to… oh hang on a minute - That dude could use a good woman. Maybe he'll get fixed up later with random Lannister sycophant.

  6. I think people tend to forget that even characters who do bad things often have underlying motivations. Sometimes in the show it needs to be a little more explicitly laid down since some characters don't have PoV chapters.

Theon and Cersei both do appalling things. Yet both have emotional conflicts but you didn't get a good grasp of them till their own PoV chapters. It makes them a little more sympathetic although that doesn't mean you have to absolve them either.

When characters are acted out you have little choice but to reveal things. Theon's look when he kills Roderick is the real Theon, purely conflicted by what he does.

As for Tywin, he respects competence in general. Also, I think he's curious about Arya and likely suspects she is higher born then she currently claims.

just a quick question, but what on earth are HBO upto?

I watched the first series and thought it was pretty good all told - a bit too much sexposition, and obviously less depth than the novel, but not bad.

This week's episode left me completely baffled though. What possible need is there for Alton Lannister? it would have taken one line at most to identify Cleos Frey properly. Rakharro's death was probably forced upon them by the actor wanting to move on, but why not just make Aggo or Jhogo the new blood rider to get screen time, instead of casting this new "Kovarro."

I believe it's been stated explicitly that "Yara" was renamed to stop viewers confusing Asha and Osha - which presumably means Theon won't be able to bemoan Osha's "treachery" to him later in the series, noting that she is as bad as his sister and "even their names sounded the same"

Who knocked Jon out at the end of the episode- was that Craster? dare we even ask why?

Was anyone else surprised when it wasn't Jacelyn Bywater who turned up to take Slynt away, but new commander of the Goldcloaks, Bronn?

Mathos Seaworth also seems to have acquired fresh prominence. Was there any reason they couldn't use Devan?

As for Ros, they seem to have moved beyond using her for sexposition to following her life in general, scenes that have no bearing on the overarching plot.

Ros. Cost 3, Power, Intrigue, strength 2, Ally.

Any phase. Pay two to choose a character. Until the end of the phase Ros gains that character's lines and scenes. Chosen character may have to sleep with Ramsay Snow at the end of season 2...

    1. Adding Cleos Frey requires exposition they may not have time for. Random Lannister cousin does not. Last name tells you all you need to know.

    2. Kovarro = Book Rakharo. Its disappointing that Rakharo (Book Jhogo) was written out but the most interesting things about the character is Elyes Gabel and he makes a great LCG card. After the first book, the bloodriders don't get alot of paper devoted to them. Oh well, tragic deaths happen in GoT. Just ask the Sean Bean fans.

    3. Clarity matters. Although I think they could've done better than Yara.

    4. When sacrificing one's children to the evil dead, its best to cover your tracks.

    5. New minor character is unimportant. Jerome Flynn is important and interesting to watch.

    6. Having Davos debate Rh'llor with someone he loves is more dynamic than with someone he dislikes (ie any Florent). Also Mathos dies in the book, so we'll see what happens. Giving him more screen time might make it more tragic. Or they might do something different.

    7. I have no idea what they'll do with Ros. She's still a standin for non-book scenes to provide character "moments" for other people. Pycelle's scene with Ros in Ep10 is not in the book but does a terrific job of showing the real Pycelle.

really like these cards a lot they change the interplay of melee IMO,   except im surprised so many people like In the Name of the King because my playgroup thinks it is easily the worst attachment

I don't see why. Stark has access to Feigned Retreat, Lethal Counterattack and a host of other useful defensive cards if you don't feel like losing.

If you don't mind taking the hit you have excellent claim soakers in the form of Lucas Blackwood, Arya Stark and Kyle Condon. Further, you can control their challenge effects via text blanking.

  9. I had a chance to try out a new melee deck. Its a bit half-assed since its part dragon deck, part cram all the melee crap into one deck. TQL is a bit touchy to use. I tried using Exiled Knight and Sorrowful Men as deadly defenders to cut back on unopposed challenges but stopping an entire power rush was harsh. I did manage to build up a fair amount of power from using TQL. It was a 3 player game so the titles created a lot of stalled attempts.

After the release of The Maester's Path and friends, the old argument that Lannister shouldn't have attachment control because that steps on Targaryen's toes seems pretty farcical.

Unlike most attachment control, it takes control of the attachment which is a pretty rare effect (ie doesn't exist outside of a few Targ cards). Further, most Targ control is not event based. They have only one event and its a little weak (being a shadow). Between Ill Tidings and Bought and Paid For, Lanni isn't really hurting for it anyways.

Hmm, now I'm trying to think who it would be nice to see in the Essos cycle. Most of the spoilers so far seem to have focused on Targ, so we already have a good sense of a few upcoming cards for the House.

*Spoilers for A Dance with Dragons*

Assuming we're sticking to a fairly Nedly, Essos-centric set of characters, we're already getting Griff and Young Griff, so maybe we'll get the rest of their group. Ser Duck would nice to see. Both Jorah, Daario, and Barristan are all strongly thematic, but we've just gotten new versions of all of them in this last cycle, so I'd imagine it's unlikely we'll see them (not impossible though, our two versions of Margaery Tyrell were in back-to-back cycles). The Tattered Prince would be cool to see, maybe like a Lord/Mercenary. Make him Martell/Targaryen. We absolutely need to see a new, good Strong Belwas, if Strong Belwas does not show up in this cycle then heads will roll. And it'd be nice to see some of Dany's handmaids get represented as unique characters.

There's also a fair number of native Meereenese options, though I cannot for the life of me remember any of their names (and the ASOIAF wiki seems to be down). Dany's husband is the best option. He should have something to do with Shadows; not be a Shadow card, but give some Shadows synergy, it would reflect on his perfidious nature. I also wouldn't mind seeing a new Dany. Her being crazy badass and riding Drogon needs to be on a card.

    Ogawd, new Strong Belwas art:

    http://www.gametrademagazine.com/Home/1/1/58/591?articleID=119369

    As for others:

Yeah, I would like to see a number of Meereenese. Skahaz mo Kandaq and the Brazen Beasts. The Green Grace. Hizdahr zo Loraq. A new sensible Quaithe to go with a new Sensible Strong Belwas.

  12. Viserys and Jhogo are auto-includes. Everything else is negotiable and that includes Pyat Pree.

Illyrio is very good but you still have to build around him. He just provides interesting deck building options.

Selmy you can shoe horn into any Targ deck because Renown is always good and he has a ghastly special ability to help push through challenges. He's still pricy and has no special defensive features.

  13. I has an additional question regarding events that give automatic wins.

Say I used Osha and removed her from the challenge after defense declaration. The defender would win the challenge since I had no characters. Would I be still able to use Feigned Retreat to win the challenge?

I guess my overall question is - what exactly is the point of traits? when a "king" "queen" "ally" "knight" etc. hits the table, that instantly tells you a lot about that card and has dozens of potential impacts, what is the point of the others though? should we have traits just for theme? or is it time to narrow down the list of traits we have, but make sure that the ones we do see actually mean something?

Even a trait that isn't being used at this time, could be used at a later date. The Dothraki trait was used on some cards since the core set but was never utilized until Brotherhood Without Banners chapter cycle.

Its better to have accurate and numerous traits just in case they get used at a later date. Bear in mind, that old CCG cards are still reprinted and there are more trait specific cards from the CCG. I suspect that the House Florent trait for example might get used in the next CP.

Well, they are both 3 str shadows tricons with stealth and excellent abilities. The only real difference is the cost and abilities, but I would not say that Tyrion's ability is better, specifically not 1 gold better.

Perhaps I will be quickly proven wrong saying this, but I cannot think of any character that is so absurdly cost efficient.

Whilst Young Griff is very cost efficient, once he's in play he doesn't get any meaner than he already is. His ability to stand things won't get used in a lot of games (although its not too bad in certain decks).

Tyrion can get very big and nasty especially if your opponent plays shadows and he has additional survivability options. Also, an extra gold out of Lannister isn't that big a deal (at least relative to other houses).

  16. While his utility is obvious, I'm a little more interested in is if he combos with the other "River" Targs. Griff and Young Griff can trigger Illyrio.

In ADoD, there were 8 characters in total and 6 of them are likely candidates in game. Young Griff enables more come into play effects and Griff is highly repeatable jumping. I'm wondering if the remaining four characters can jump or will have come into play triggers like Illyrio.

If a similar effect would be attached to a staple Targ unique like Dany, Khal Drogo, etc instead, then sure you'd have to boost it to Euron/Doran levels.

Its a Limited Response. It cuts off other useful Limited Responses like Pikemen or Flame Towers. It also lacks survivability. It can't be given attachments, can't be duplicated and its not a Noble. On the positive side, it can be recurred from the dead pile like any Targ character. The introduction of Meraxes also increases the viability of Womb of the World.

as i said in the beginning, unless your doing it to deliberately damage the targ player, players will opt to make the challenges in a direction that does not cost power. Or probably not make the challenge at all.

Taking a penalty to gain advantage for yourself is part of the game. Giving someone else excessive advantage is worse than taking a small hit to yourself. Furthermore, we're talking in terms of a card that is vulnerable to stealth, control, deadly and other bypass effects whilst cutting out other Limited Responses (and Targ has access to multiple good ones). Euron and Doran can potentially give a strong advantage to their controllers by themselves and by reinforcing existing House cards whilst not being even required to participate in the challenge. Thus they are not vulnerable to stealth and less vulnerable to other control effects.

Getting back on track, after seeing Blood Debt in action, I am somewhat interested in using TQL. Its risky to use but as I said earlier Targ has some challenge control to make things interesting.
