It is very strong, but I'd still pick FoW over it almost every time.

Is not Fear of Winter strong against House of Dreams? You said there is not disadvantage to HoD but it increases the pool of cards that are non-setup cards. Comments on other forums from people who've been using HoD suggest that setups are more limited and this increases Fear of Winter's strength. Alternatively you could lay out First Snow of Winter since an HoD deck is more likely to use lower cost characters to beef up their initial setup.

Further, competition and penalties are forthcoming. New agenda's have been announced for the soon to be released Rise of the Kraken and Pirates of Lys CP's. RotK also contains the new Fleet characters who receive discounts when your opponent controls an agenda. Stark can already put out some solid anti-agenda characters. More cards can still be released.

  2. I quite like the Fury change. Makes for more dynamic melee. I'm on the fence about Stag remaining on the list. It does have the potential for the biggest swing in power and Bara doesn't really need any help when it comes to gaining power.

in Tales of champions and Beyond the narrow sea, targa have several (many)  burn cards and only one Dothraki, Do you believe that designers will must do  differents cards and support thematics how bolton, dothrakis, dragon, tully, dayne,….?

There's more in the books for Targ and other Houses than what's in the game. Further, some new cards help certain themes in not immediately noticeable ways.

For example, have you played Incinerate out of a Dothraki deck? Its ghastly. Its a strong card but its potency is unmatched out of a Dothraki deck. Hall of Dragons, Dragon Egg, Great Pyramid of Meereen, Manning the City Walls, Magister Illyrio, Pentos. All directly applicable to a Dothraki deck.

I don't want HBO's vision of the books to cloud and distort the beautiful imagery that I have created in my own imagination over the years. I don't want to see Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, I want to see my own Tyrion, or some of the beautiful card artwork (yes, I know some of the card artwork is bad, so think of my statements ceteris paribus).

We already have tonnes of artwork cards. I wouldn't mind seeing a selection of TV stills or other photographs. Send 'em in straight or make interesting use of photoshop. The show has tonnes of terrific imagery. Everyone needs a Joffslap card in the collection.

Let's pretend that Tin Link becomes less, and less used over time(because no one is using attachments anymore so it almost becomes a dead card), now the efficiency rating of attachments in general has increased a little bit because one of their primary threats has descended a little bit.

I think the problem with Tin Link is that its incapable of being a dead card in a TMP deck even if the opponent has no attachments. It always thins the deck and it increases the power level of some of the other chains. So why not throw it in? This makes it even more efficient than comparable removal cards.

Woah, is anyone else concerned by the potential cost of that card to be wildly low or even free?  Naval enhancement and Response ability aside, the idea of bringing a deadly army that strong for very cheap seems… yeah…

I've dropped 3 Drogo's Horde out for free in a single turn. Potentially the Horde are very ugly but no one really complains about them being overpowered. They're not the only cheep army in the game either.

i, too, suspect that the popularity of the maester's path at this point is almost entirely attributable to the multiple viable maester-heavy builds out there.

The problem with Maester's is that its heavily supported relative to other agenda's. There are 16 cards that support Maesters including 2 plots in addition to the 12 chains. Maester's are also frequently tied to the Learned crest and there are 12 cards that work for Learned including 2 plots. 3 out of 4 of the plots are also really good. Many of the other support cards are also very useful.

Compare TMP to Summer which is fitfully supported. Targ and Martell have a number of very good summer cards, other houses not so much. Still Summer works with everything because of the bonus income, bonus draw and ease of setting it up. Even then, Summer is inherently risky. An opposing Winter or Maester deck can shut you down. There's no equivalent counter to Maester's except for maybe another Maester deck. The season agendas and support were designed with opposing strategies.

Compared to Knights of the Realm its support is dwarfed by Maesters. There are only 9 cards that support Knights including 2 plots. There's no equivalent plot card to the very efficient At The Gates although there are a wide variety of Knight characters. There are also two specific anti-Knight characters vs none for Maesters. Some Knights have War Crests which is a decently supported crest type but I wouldn't say it has the same synergy that Maester-Learned has. Lastly KotR can be shut down by an opponent randomly having more Knights than you do.

I don't think TMP is overpowered although it should have some more in built counters to it. For example, why not have Knight specific cards that counter Maester's. This could represent the Lord's men disagreeing with their Lord's adviser. Or how about Holy cards that counter Learned or Maester cards?

I also think every other agenda in the game is both underpowered and under-represented.

  8. Hedge Knight was originally published by the Dabel Brothers. They proved to be pretty flaky as publishers and some of their properties went through a series of co-publishers. Hedge Knight eventually finished at Marvel and they did the collections. Dynamite Entertainment appears to have control over all Dabel Brothers properties now including Hedge Knight. They might do a reprint in the future and maybe adapt the last novella.

  9. I've only been keeping tabs on it here and there. Its mostly a pretty straight adaptation of the novels. The art is alright. I find it to be a little bit stiff sometimes and they don't do anything visually interesting for the most part. They don't rehash visuals from the TV show and the characters mostly look closer to what you might think they would in the novels. I will give high marks for Bran's dreams though. Its one part of the book that I think would be nice to see visually adapted and one that would likely be too expensive to do on TV.

When the collection gets a re-release in a softcover format I'll probably give it another look.

There is no rule against your opponents tossing your deck out a window midgame either.

I believe there are actual laws against that. Damaging people's property and such.

    Penfold said:

You want to try and argue that because it is in the books and no rule against it that it is supported or encouraged by tournament play?

Regarding melee collusion, I would ask the question: "What would Cersei Lannister do?" The answer is to do what it takes to win.

FFG's only real failure is not limiting collusion but not presenting a mechanism that would encourage people to collude with a stranger. For example, split all players into their own "Houses". Each House would be of limited size. If in a game you're with a player of the same House, you would get a small point or power bonus if your House wins the table thus encouraging you to support them even if the person is a complete stranger.

After all, it's not like the answer to the ridiculously powerful and efficient Jaqen H'gar was to make sure everyone had 3 of them in every deck - he was banned to fix the problem, not made more readily available.

I suspect that Clash of Arms hasn't been reprinted is because they would have to devote time to fixing certain cards. At minimum they would have to redesign Jaqen and Compelled by the Rock like they did with Blood of the First Men. On top of that they could also take some time to tone down some of the restricted cards since the majority of the restricted list is from this cycle.

  12. Whilst there is some excitement to be said for finding something unknown, its best to appreciate the journey or you may find reading tedious.

I played the game before watching the show or reading the books. So for example, I knew ahead of time the death a certain character played by a famous actor. However, when I watched the show, it was still shocking. I read the books after the first season and I still found the death shocking.

Game of Thrones is well written enough that knowing a few plot points (cough Red Wedding cough) ahead of time won't really dilute your enjoyment of the books.

Since FFG said there will be no Neutrals in this cycle, I doubt we will see any Wildlings, unless they give them a House affiliation.

There's a partial spoiler for a new one called the Wildling Bard and its Bara/Stark. You could probably reasonably shoehorn any Wildling into Stark or Bara/Stark.

  14. Lets consider some of the current Stark cards released. Two cards temporarily remove control of cards from their owner and one that operates under a currently unused Traitor mechanic. This already is starting to sound Boltonish.

Add in a host of new cards that have multiple house affiliations which fit in with other past Bolton cards. Also At the Palace of Sorrows is a pretty beefy card to use with the Bolton's.

i can use saves and dupes for kill effects, i can't for burn

Alot of the time you have no saves or dupes. No Quarter just "burned" a character of any Strength in that case. Alternatively, you rely on cancel to stop negative card effects.

In any event, your average burn requires more set up time then other kill effects. Targ card draw is still nothing extra-ordinary so setting it up can take a little more work. Admittedly, Incinerate is pretty potent. Its almost too good although its unusual for me to have more than 3 of the same trait out at any time and its almost always Dothraki weenies when it is. Its at least reasonably capped.
