Hannibal_pjv reacted to KalEl814 in We need to be a Dungeons Master (Overlord)
I know it's fashionable around here to poop on Asmodee for everything but the market was moving away from board games where it's 1 player vs many others since before the acquisition.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to HisEpicness in We need to be a Dungeons Master (Overlord)
100% disagree. I love fully coop games and app based games I have no gripes with. Still not sure I'll even get the game since its so expensive, but I am glad there's no overlord.
If you want an overlord, go play second edition.

Maybe having a print on demand bigger size cards?
FFG has other print on demand options. Häving this would be easily done, because they allready have card plans. Just scale them bigger normal poker size

Hannibal_pjv reacted to CaptainCrumpet in PLEASE FFG - Text Size on Cards
Hi FFG
Im a 52 years old gamer who loves your games BUT it’s getting to the stage I can’t continue due to the size of text on your cards. I am struggling to read the main text and have to use a magnifying glass to read the text at the base of the cards. It’s giving me bad headaches and will sadly cause me to avoid any of your small card games, which is allot if them. I really want to enjoy this game and I’m pleading with you to make the text size bigger for some of your ageing audience.
i’m sure I’m not alone with this issue... and many if your players will also suffer this as they get closer to my age.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to Monty Pillepalle in Never Ending Errata
I do not see an issue with that. If the reason for the errata is sound i am all for it. Ofc it would be better if the card was correctly designed to begin with. But it wasnt. Keeping toxic cards around is simply a bad idea. The scorpion province erratad is simply put unbreakable for some decks. This is very clear. So why do you want to experience this forseeable misery?

Hmmm what threebeard would be. A character that does act only every second round (don`t be hasty) and have douple stats to compensate?
Well... maybe something else before talking trees...

War could mean skirmishes in Cap of icengard or Osgiliath. The time period would fit better to Osgiliath, so some Gondorians?

Hannibal_pjv reacted to any2cards in I honestly hate the lack of stock in games like Descent
As someone who owns everything D1e & D2e, and is a game completionist, I feel your pain ...
Still, I am honestly curious about something ...
How long do you expect a company to continue producing and selling a game?
D1e was originally released in 2005. D2e in 2012. Should they have stock of everything for 5 years? 10 years, 50 years? At some point, it becomes unreasonable to expect the game to be in active publication. Nor would it be reasonable to have stock maintained after a certain point in time.
What is your expectation? Say the game could sell 10 or 50 or 100 or 1000 copies a year worldwide? What is sufficient sales to maintain stock?
Further, if a new version of a game (however loosely tied it is to the previous version) is released, such as D2e to D1e, how long should you still be able to get D1e?

Hannibal_pjv reacted to SGPrometheus in Curing trauma between campaigns
Yeah, every outcome of every campaign gives you some trauma; it kind of reinforces the idea that these characters aren't superhuman, and after facing enough mind-altering abominations, they will crack.
The 5xp price point seems reasonable enough, or you could save up a bunch and then run Forgotten Age to do it "legitimately" :D.

Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from Charleesatch in Sorastro's Painting
Look Sorastos first, second and third painting quide. They Are very simple and use only paint starter set, so It easy to get started. After those it get more complicated, but I desided to remain mostly in those for the rest of my own set.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to PickleTheHutt in Player count and difficulty
He meant that preparing the success cards usually gives you a benefit that is equal to, or perhaps better than, drawing that card for its success symbol during a test.
I've played through the first 7 adventures solo controlling Aragorn and Legolas and have won all 7 pretty easily. I've only had to make one Last Stand and I usually interact with almost every token.
The most important thing is to try to keep a stack of inspiration as much as possible. I prioritize getting inspiration in the first few turns (by preparing or exploring as necessary), which makes everything else easier. It's also sometimes a good idea to not spend inspiration, especially for negate tests, unless there's a good reason to do so. I'd rather use a guard card (which gives Aragorn inspiration) or a trinket item to prevent/heal than use precious inspiration. If you keep enemies clear, which is not hard to do with 2 heroes, then most turns will only require 1 test. That means you have a lot of control using the start of round scouting. It's rare that I fail the first test of a round.
I have also played a 4 player game. That was much much harder (granted the other 3 players were new) as the threat gain is much higher AND you get more enemies (it seems like it should be one or the other). I think the game may be poorly balanced based on number of heroes; I'd rather the threat gain be 2 plus 1 per hero (instead of 2 per hero). This would change nothing for a 2 hero game, but would give a little more time with more heroes.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to Faranim in Player count and difficulty
There is definitely a learning curve to this game. I'm playing on Hard Mode and lost the first 4 missions, but a lot of that was because I made rules errors or completely forgot to use one of my hero powers or prepared cards. Looking back I could have easily won some of those missions if I didn't make a dumb mistake (like forgetting that Legolas can spend an inspiration to leave his space, so he doesn't get punched in the face by the boss during Retaliate)
Inspiration economy is a huge part of the strategy, especially in Hard Mode. You need to focus the early game on collecting Inspiration and not spending it. This means taking advantage of cards like Trailblazer, Resourceful, Traveling Song, etc. that generate Inspiration for you. It's also very important to understand that most of the cards with success icons, are still worth a success if you prepare them. If the card gives you an inspiration, or lets you convert a LEAF into a success, then it's still given you a success, but maybe one that you have saved up for later. There's nothing more annoying than flipping 3 success icons when you only needed 1.
The way you lose this game is when you need to make a critical skill test (Last Stand, Combat, Final Objective, etc.) and you don't have enough inspiration to pay for the number of successes you need, even though you flipped enough cards with LEAF icons.

Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from paulinthehills in Larger cards
We can hope that either They make bigger cards for print on demand. Not very likely... or some gamer makes fan made cards that can be printed in artscow or different printing company... that is possible, but there Are Copyright laws that most likely prevent that. Or at least They must to have different art than original cards.
i am old fellow, so I really would like to see bigger cards with larger fonts, but I am not keeping my hopes high.

Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from General_Grievous in Optimistic about LOTR LCG’s Future
The Lotr Lcg is old, so the pace may get slower, but the Lotr Lcg is still among the most popular lcgs! When I present in convention Ffg Lcg games, the Lotr of the rings still is the most popular, the second is AH and the rest becomes far behind! So Yes, Lotr is doing just fine!
lotr is something where parents will come with their children, Also fantasy fans will stop by it. AH is for gamers and ropleplayers. Competitive Lcg... well Are interest by competitive players and not too Many of those around. SW was reasonable popular and people did like the deckbuilding mechanic, it was less complex to card game noobies than most. New Marvel Lcg will most likely be big hit when convetions starts again, but I Expect that Lotr still gets reasonable audience among new players.

Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from Uninvited Guest in Player count and difficulty
Yeah... you don``t normally have any inspiration in the start of the game Unles some special ability or card allows it.
A house rule where you give free inspiration is easy to do, but this game does not need that if you understand the economy of this game. But for Beginners it may be what is needed to get jump start.
