Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from wintermoonwolf in Question about the card "Travel Garb"
Strange... I have found the game very easy and considering going to hard mode in next play time. Do you use guard? Do you soften up the enemies first by using ranged attacks? Do you use those board elements in the battle map to full extent? Do you really speed up when exploring? Do you read flavor text of encounters before interacting them to get a clue what skill is needed? Do you prepare right cards? Do you give inspiration to right character and activate right characters at right time. The timing is essential in some cases. Do you use your character power to full?
try to end Aragorn near as Many character as possible, for extra scouting. Try to elena do as Many interaction check as possible to give her inspiration other characters, so that They can use the same inspiration again! Use legolas ability to make several usefull interactions. Remember attack with gimli first so that he can put one succes back to the top of the deck before attempting something else with him. Unless ofcourse you have sure setup for some interaction. etc. Try to move burglar first so that he ie not near anybody! And be hided! Don`t buy any non success upgrades untill you have one or two or three success cards bought first (increase your ods). Don`t attack if there Are not Many succes left anymore in the deck. So count your chances before the action! Some tips in there that could help in the Middle Earth.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to KalEl814 in Did this have to be descent themed?
Descent 2nd ed is tethered to 1st ed, which came out 15 years ago. It is completely reasonable for FFG to want a clean break, there's no board game they've supported for that long. Any of the lines that have been around show their age to a significant degree, as anyone who opens the last Mansions 2nd ed expansion notices in two seconds when the minis have standees that tether them to a game long gone and don't really even fit on the cardboard when more than one of them is around.
Even games that have been around that long have completely different content, rules, rotations, etc., that make the original stuff either incompatible or practically useless, which is where Descent 2nd ed is going to end up.
The content from the original game had a run longer than 99% of games of its type, and 2nd ed is probably in the same strata mathematically.
I completely get not liking with Legends of the Dark is about; it's expensive, it's app driven. But it was time.

Personally, I'm satisfied with the content that's available now in addition to the replay value. Even if I only got a couple of years out of it, I'd be happy. I mean, things can't last forever. Buy it now and enjoy it while it lasts. Don't fear the future of it.

I agree there could be 10 more Differwnt Descent games... easily.
descent love Letters, Descent monopoly. Descent deckbuilding game, descent miniature battle game and so on... Actually there is no limit. I personally don`t care Descent fransize. Generic fantasy stuff... not interested in personally. But I own Descent 1sd edition and have played other Games based on the same fransize. And I would prefer similar game using different fransize more... but Ffg own this fransize so it is easier to use than most!

Hannibal_pjv reacted to Shanturin in Bilbo: Self-Sufficient
Three issues here:
1. The card is not only for situations where you don't have any inspiration. It suppose to be part of inspiration engine, keeping it running smoothly, like "eco" mode in a car It is possible to have inspiration and not wanting to spend it. Also, it can be useful in attack test (in Bilbo's case most likely in Wit), when you already have enough damage (like, say you used Unseen Strike for lethal and have icons to spare; Unssen Strike in general works well with Self-Sufficient).
2. We definitely have different experiences, I've used Self Sufficient (or seen it used) on a set tests or attacks multiple times, and obviously both cases are anecdotal arguments at best It comes to each player's playstyle I guess, I rarely keep my party close on adventure maps.
3. Seeing as you're version would grant up to two free successes most of the time (you would actively seek to be alone with this), it would be broken as f***. In my opinion, even if you would change it to "you may convert 1 [Fate] to 1 [Success]" it would be one of the most powerful cards in the game.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to kris40k in We need to be a Dungeons Master (Overlord)
I think history shows that people can work it out...
Some of those are in fact, the compatible/same game, but many are not.
Descent: Legends and Descent: Journeys are just two game lines in the same universe that have similarities, but are different games with different target audiences. Now, there may be some growing pain here with people upset that they are not getting another Descent: Journeys with this being the first use of the "Descent" name with another game line, but it will work out. I don't think the "Terrinoth" name was getting the kind of traction that they wanted with other game releases, and this move makes sense, especially for another dungeon crawler.

Hannibal_pjv got a reaction from twincast in seems a little...underwhelming....
More people like pure co-op that one vs Many. Should the games to be made for bigger audience or smaller minorities? I don`t say Yes or no in here. I have Many games that most normal players ever would consider. Do I Expect to see more that kind of games to be published... No!
companies make this for money. And because Ffg knows that pure co-op sells better (at least at this moment) They make more pure co-op games. Simple as that! Is it wise to Flood the market with similar games... I don`t know. Only history will tell. But saying that Ffg did not listen customers... you Are wrong. Ffg listen the customers and Main trend no is pure co-op games!
i personally van hoe that there will be more 80 to 160 hours war games, or some other minority can hope more one vs Many games. But the reality is that majority of gamers now play pure co-op. So it is very pointless to whine that company makes more of them... They Are trying to make money. Not to please minorities!
So if I want new heavy war game or some other people want to have new one vs Many game... he has to make it himself and launch a Kickstarter for that!
all in all this games seems to be promising co-op game. Will it be succesfull... I don`t know but customers and market situation support that option... So more likely than not this will be much bigger succes than descent 2nd or fictional descent 3.0... but only history knows and it is not telling it to us at this moment. From what I can see from current market situation succes is more likely than failure, unless peoples game taste ghange quite suddently!

How so? New game always have had first preorders from the original company. Normal stores gets them when They get them... cov19 has delayed Many games in the market to become normal stores at normal time!
i am sure that we will see this game in every Gaming store possible... when They just get them...

Mine just arrived today, and they are the same way. Very disappointing. I'm going to submit a complaint to FFG, since this is a clear downgrade in quality over previous expansions.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to Ryan Shrieves in Loving what I’ve seen
I’m not trying to be rude, but I don’t think you understand what “objectively” means. What you are describing is ‘subjective’. Objective refers to demonstrable fact; something beyond personal opinion. Subjective refers to views based on your feelings and opinions. For example, stating this game is APP-driven is an objective statement. Stating the art is poor is a subjective statement.
in addition, claiming a ‘majority of people’ based on forums is generally a fallacy. The online community, and especially negative posters tend to be more widely represented than the overall consumer base. This can be seen quite often with video games and movies that gain large scale online negativity, but still succeed upon release.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to Raizox in Loving what I’ve seen
And you keep trying to explain your wet paper, no one cares about your opinion because it doesn't have any value since you haven't tried the game, no one has, so it's pointless saying it's a bad game if you haven't see not even a demo of it. You can say you don't like the art, you don't like the app-driven feature or every other aspect regarding its looks, but your opinion about the gameplay isn't there so no point on saying it's a bad game, and this is why no one is reading your and you have to repeat it over and over again expecting that some day people will see your opinion as something relevant.
"Check there no "4 or 5" old grumpys, theres the majority of people complaining bout a videogame with toys for 175 bucks."
I don't have to check everything. I've been reading this forum for 2 years and I'm pretty aware about the negativity that goes around here. Right now if you only read this forum and have no contact with the outside you would thing that FFG is going to collapse because all their games are bad. The reality is that this is just a biased place. As I said in previous post, JiME had the same or even more negativity during its release, all the forums were full of people saying that the game was about to fail, bad mechanics, bad art, "Boo app-driven", "boo no dices", "Boo odd tiles", etc, etc. But, what is the reality? Is one of the best sellers of FFG right know, admited by themselves and with a solid roadmap on future content.
So no my friend, even though there is a majority of people here (I see it more like minorities making so much noise), you are irrelevant, for me and of course for FFG, they know their audience better than you, and that's why we don't really care about you or your opinion. So please, keep brining your daddy or bully issues here, it's so much fun to read.

Hannibal_pjv reacted to kris40k in Will Descent Continue to be the Game That Broke My Heart?
@SteveG700
Legit complaints. Even in first edition, monsters were just to get in the way between the players and chests where you could score loot. Overlord players allow for better challenges/ fights as you can apply tactics that an app AI cannot, however its still an attrition game, as the players overpower monsters and you really are working to bring them down enough times to trigger a hero loss.
2nd Ed made it a point to reduce the game length from 1st Ed, which even as someone that loved 1st Ed, I have to admit the games were horrifically long sessions. This did result in constantly prodding the heroes to move quicker and be more calculating with their actions. Tick-tock, tick-tock, gotta keep moving forward...
I do think there is a better chance to get away from that with Legends. In the stream they specifically called out that there will be more exploration and interaction with the gameboard, instead of a dead sprint to the end of the dungeon. So, they acknowledge that issue with 2nd Ed, and are trying to move away from it. Looking at the mechanics moving away from fatigue/health attrition with the card-flip mechanics and giving more actions per round (1 move + 2 others), it does seem like they want players "doing more stuff" instead of having to be very careful about not wasting any actions. Instead of losing an action and resting to get rid of fatigue, you do stuff to get rid of fatigue. It sounds like a nice twist.

Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress MSRPs for $150 for 2d terrain tiles and 44 minis.
Necromunda: Dark Uprising includes some 3d terrain on top of 2d boards (like Legends does) and 28 minis and runs $290
So...yeah, honestly. Seems to be pretty reasonable with today's games.

You guys are killing the chicken within the egg, before it even hatched...
According to all the negativity here and other posts, FFG should simply cancel the release of this game, declare bankruptcy and submit to their Kickstarter Overlords.
Kickstarter games also have their good deal of balance issues which i won't be debating here, but i am looking at you Sword & Sorcery!
After watching the Live stream and reading up the articles a few times, i can see several new, really interesting concepts such as crafting with numerous resources tracked within the app, unlocking random abilities to weapons and armor, giving it a Diablo feel. Also the mechanic of readying weapons, armor, skills and abilities with back to back, upgradable and interchangeable cards seem really clever.
Just how the app will be managing all of that while keeping the focus and balance on what's on the table is a challenge i know FFG can overcome. They did with JIME but i would have prefered dice, which is the case with Descent:LotD. Attack dice defined by your hero, but effects and damage across different weapons and abilities unlocked within the app. Very exciting - at least for me and hopefully, a few others.
I would wait for a little bit more before all of us get to punch the red button...

Hannibal_pjv reacted to KalEl814 in Did this have to be descent themed?
Descent 2nd Ed is 8 years old and shackled to 1st Ed content, and that came out 15 years ago. There’s no game that FFG has supported for that long and a clean break in terms of art style, sculpt quality, etc., was the only way to continue the line with truly new content.
We also know that there’s a market for very expensive FFG games, based on the success of Twilight Imperium both long term, as well as with 4th edition specifically. We also know that there’s a market for app driven FFG games based on the success of JIME and MoM 2nd Ed.
The only real question is whether or not there’s a market for a huge, expensive, app-based Descent game.
