  1. Hey .. some questions about the Balrog's ability: "Only the first player can declare attacks against The Balrog."

Can i participate with one or more ranged characters in an attack against The Balrog declared by the first player? Participating is not declaring an attack, right?

How could it be possible for other players besides the first player to declare attacks against The Balrog without this ability? Only some eventcards like "Hands upon the Bow" or Dunhere comes into my mind.

  3. What happens if you combine these two cards?  Galadriel boosts Bilbo, Bilbo boosts Galadriel, loop continues.  Infinite willpower on both of them?

    Hi Jan,

This issue is under review and will likely be addressed in the next FAQ update due out soon. Needless to say, infinite willpower is not acceptable in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. I suggest while players wait for the next FAQ update they resolve lasting effects created by player cards as being resolved at the time they trigger and not recalculated if the game state changes.

    Cheers,

    Caleb

    Hi Jan,

If there are 2 copies of Elwing’s Flight in your discard pile when you play Elwing’s Flight from your hand, it allows you to choose up to 3 questing characters to ready and get +1 willpower. If you only have 3 questing characters but only 1 of them is exhausted, you could resolve Elwing’s Flight in a number of ways:

    - You could choose all 3 characters to get +1 willpower and ready the 1 exhausted character.

    - You could choose to ready the exhausted character and give that character +3 willpower.

    - You could choose not to ready the exhausted character and divide the willpower boost among the other 2 characters.

The way this card is worded makes it possible to receive the +1 willpower without being readied by its effect.

    Cheers,

    Caleb

So .. the card is better than i thought :)

  5. Beside this discussion .. a simple question:

how many characters can i choose with Elwing's Flight if my three copies are in the discard pile and i use Map of Earnil to play it?

my first thought was 4 .. but i think it's 3 because you play one copy out of the discard pile right on the table, then check your discard pile .. 2 copies left.

  6. That's not what I said. It's the particular case of "ready a character" that I am happy to be an effect that does nothing (distinct from an effect that can't resolve).

For instance, the effect on Lure of Moria clearly can resolve even if all dwarf characters are not exhausted.

Mmm.. seems legit. Lure of Moria is a neat example, but i think to play Lure of Moria there must at least one exhausted dwarf character.

  7. I interpret Keeping Count as the scene in which Legolas and Gimli fight side by side and count their victims in comparison to each other. The card itself should give the character who is last (or behind the first) the opportunity to catch up by boosting his attack by the difference to the first person. So for me, it makes no sense to sum up the differences from different card copies in order to calculate the attack boost. Each character compare his counts with the one who has the most kills .. and then gets his attack boost out of the difference.

  8. From Caleb:

You can only remove 1 resource from the Goblin in question. Both Forced effects trigger at the same time, but you must fully resolve one before attempting to resolve the other. After the first one resolves, the enemy can no longer take damage, so you cannot remove 1 resource to cancel damage since it is no longer taking damage.

Still doesn't sit well with me but there it is.

I'm with you, because wording is not "remove 1 resource from that enemy to cancel all damage just dealt to it."

But the intention of the taskmasters ability is that the resources should work as a shield so in your interpretation two taskmasters would weaken the Goblins instead of giving them a good shield.

  9. i think "suffer damage" [Gloin (core), Shadow Key (Core) and Wilyador (Journey to Rhosgobel)] and "is damaged" implies that the damage is placed on the card and "damage dealt" means the damage goes to the card.

If you cancel damage which is already on a card then you will actually heal that card. if you cancel the damage which is dealt to a card you prevent a card suffering damage or get damaged. Its not healing.

So if Gloin suffers any kind of damage it is already on the card and a close call could not be used because the damage has reached the card already.

Frodo gives a good example how close call should be worded to cancel damage on a card
