seems simple ..

Hi Folks,

what happened if my deck is empty?
-
-
So you also wouldn't be able to use Follow Me! to redirect some of the attacks?
Nice catch

I think you wohld be able .. because the game state changes and the effect must be recalculated.
-
Mmm.. i'm not with you ..
In the combat phase all enemies engaged with me are queued up for attacking me. If i or another player managed to get one or more of these enemies out of my combatzone before i declare there attack against me, they will not attack me, right?
So, same situation in 2) only the location (staging area) of the enemies changed. Or miss i something?

man screw that frickin' Hill Troll.
Gotta be honest, this is getting frustrating.
20 games in and I cannot beat Anduin quest. Nothing beats the Hill Troll. 10 games with leadership/spirit and 10 games with leadership/tactic and I cannot beat the Hill troll and that alone is stopping me. At times I have had over 20 progress tokens on the first stage to no avail.
Does not help that card draws has seen me see Gandalf a total of 3 times in 20 games (before all heroes die).
I have been fighting doing Lore just to get that one dang card to stop the Hill Troll from killing everyone....... just seems like one should be able to beat the quest with more than one strategy......
GRRRRRRRR WTF
Lore: Let the Troll attack a cheap ally (Henamath, Miner, Hammersmith, Gleowine) and next round attach a forest snare to him.
Tactic: Defend first attack with Gimli (risky) and if Gimli does not die - attach Dwarven Axes to Gimli & Legolas, Feint the Troll next time an attack him with Gimli and Legolas
Leadership. Tricky .. Sneak attack Gandalf one or two times (or play him) before the troll attacks .. defend with Aragorn or Gandalf and attack back.
Spriit: Avoid beeing engaged from the Troll .. but nothing will kill the troll.
Prefer a mix from two spheres .. perhaps tactics/leadership (Aragorn, Gimli, Theodred) so you are able to sneak attack Gandalf and ready fully loaded Gimli by common cause if needed

Did someone ask Caleb about this?
There FAQ-entry about Lasting Effects is nice but there are many encounter cards with lasting effects which use the word "currently" and those effects cannot be recalculated.
While player cards never uses currently ...

Hi Folk,
yesterday we played "Intruders in Chetwood" and one deck uses Tactic-Aragorn. We had two situations where we got stuck and discussed about Aragorn' Ability to engage an enemy after he destroyed one.
1) An enemy with Ambush attached is optionally engaged by Aragorn before the combat phase. The enemy get a shadow card in the combat phase and after that Ambush is discarded and Aragorn managed to kill the enemy. After that he engages a new enemy from the staging area.
Question: Does this enemy attack Aragorn's player?
2) Same situation, but Aragorn has Rivendell Bow attached and while staging "Sudden Assault" is revealed, which results in an immediate attack of three enemy against the first player. Can Aragorn sniper one enemy with "Hand upon the bow" and engage one of the enemies so only one enemy is left in the staging area .. which results in only one immediate attack?

Hi Jan,
If you look at the timing chart on page 30 of the core rules, players gain resources and draw cards at the beginning of the resource phase. Cirdan’s ability causes you to draw 1 additional card at that time.Cheers,CalebSo the initial intention that you simply draw more cards during the resource phase is correct, but i think the description "at the beginning ..." is bad.

Hi there,
played The Antlered Crown yesterday and Old Hatreds was attached to the quest card:
When Revealed: Attach to the current quest. (Counts as a Condition attachment with the text: "Forced: After a player draws any number of cards, raise his threat by 1.")So .. do we have to raise our threat if all time counters where removed from the raven war-camp?
Time 3. Forced: After the last time counter is removed from this location, starting with the first player, each player draws the top card of the Raven deck and puts it into play engaged with him.I think yes .. and additional trigger all other effects that will trigger by drawing any number of cards.
-
now you see my confusion

-
I think you are right with your assuming, but the phrase "at the beginning of X phase.." says clearly that it happens before something else in this phase .. so confusingly you draw first "additional cards" and than your regular one ... seems weird to me. All these phrases has to be worded like Bilbo's passive ability, right?
If the phrase "at the beginning of X phase" does not mean that you can use "Mariner's Compass" after you have travelled to a new location [it let you switch a location in the staging area with one from the encounterdeck at the beginning of the travelphase]

Hi GrandSpleen,
nice deck .. what comes into my mind:
- Erebor Hammersmith can do the same job as Anborn, is not unique and is cheaper
- Using Mablung ally to "punch" engaged enemies into lonely traps in the staging area.
- To make Dori a good "damage receiver" you can attach Self Preservation or/and ring mail on him.
I like your idea of your blaze of glory idea.

Hi folks,
i had in mind that there was a thread about Bilbo and Iron Shackles where you do not draw your normal 1 card instead you discard Iron Shakles and then draw your additional card from Bilbo.
But... i do not find this thread, so i opened a new one.
First i'm confused about the text of these cards:
Bilbo: The first player draws 1 additional card in the resource phase.
Cirdan the Shipwright: Draw 1 additional card at the beginning of the resource phase.
Erestor: Draw 3 additional cards at the beginning of the resource phase.
Ori: If you control at least 5 Dwarf characters, draw 1 additional card at the beginning of the resource phase.
Cirdan, Erestor and Ori let me draw cards before i draw my normal one, while Bilbo let me draw after i draw my normal one. Right?
If i'm right, Cirdan's Forced-Effect does not make sense.
So my intention is, that "at the beginning of the resource phase" is equal to "in the resource phase".

Help for Dori ...

I think only enemies engaged with you at the time of use. Are there many ways to engage enemies as a Combat Action?
Yes, Aragorn (Tactics)/Merry (Tactics)/Hour of Wrath. I have an entire deck built around Tactics Aragorn and engaging 5-10 enemies and killing them all in one turn in multi-player games. Sadly, it sort of relies on the -1 Defense of this card (not always, since the deck has other means of increasing damage).
Would you post your deck?
-
Yeah, really good stats. Ranged makes it better. The ability can be superb, and especially for all those treacheries that read (and often trigger that way), if there is something/nothing, it gains surge. I like the art as well.
I wonder if it'll count, because she reads "when encounter card with surge is revealed"... Does optional surge counts? Because cards with optional surge are not initially "cards with surge". I would prefer if she would read "after a Surge keyword is triggered".
Also, Ranger of North

This was my intention to start this topic in the rule section: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/201414-new-lanwyn-hero-response/
-
A hero card has already hit the table during setup; which is the time I assume this refers to?
To compare: it has been rules that Eleanor can cancel an effect during setup.
Sry for that .. i mean before we can get her by release ... i edit my post above.
-
ok .. this is simple, but what about this:

If you have all of your characters exhausted, this card gains surge and then Lanwyn readies?
-
Hi there ..
does Lanwyn response trigger if a card gains surge by its when revealed effect? e.g. Driven by Shadow?

-
Horn of Gondor:
I wished they make it not restricted but good catch to the theme .. some decks with high character-frequency like rohan, eagle or silvan now needs a new ressource generation.
For rohan spirit Theoden && Gamling ally (does his response trigger by destroyed rohan allies?) do a great job of ally recycling and cost reduction.
For silvans .. there are many benefits for leaving/entering play, OLorien gives cost reduction so there is no need for an extra resource benefit via HOG.
For eagles .. bad .. very bad. Old Radagst is the only help for them.. he must get errated! And some keycards for the eagles are needed.

The ability of Marksman of Lorien is way too strong. In a deck with Haldir you can one shot almost every ennemy!! -1 def would have been more balanced i think.
This is, what a Marksman do .. Headshot ..

I'm not sure if you can use Ranged against the Balrog at all actually. Because The Balrog doesn't say "only the first player can declare attacks" it says "only the first player can declare attackers". The wording is a bit ambiguous in a rules sense since 'declare' is generally used just to refer to initially declaring the attack, but linguistically, if the first player declares an attack and you say your Ranged character will participate, you are declaring that character to be one of the attackers.
Dang, good catch. You might be right.
Yup, it is definitely ambiguous. I tried finding something in the FAQ and rules that would tell me what the correct interpretation is, but there's nothing in either of those sources that confirms it for me (at least not that I could find).
my fault .. the german translation of The Balrog says: "... und nur der Startspieler kann Angriffe gegen Der Balrog erklären."
in english: ".. only the first player can declare attacks against The Balrog." .. this is why i tried to clarifiy if participating is equal to declaring. :-/
-
Declaring is not participating. Only the first player may declare an attack during the normal combat phase, or using a card ability granting an attack declaration; but then other players may commit ranged characters to the attack. It is not possible for other players to attack the Balrog otherwise.
Thanks for the reply. The german translation of the paragraph ranged reads a little bit different then the english original. There we got the intention that participating in an attack is the same as declaring a ranged attack, but it is simply declaring a ranged character as attacker.
is there a possbile szenario in which other player could attack The Balrog without cardeffects if The Balrog has not this limitation of declaring attacks only by the first player? I only see Dunhere riding into the staging area...

Dori+Bilbo are good ^^

Do you or mndela remember how Dori makes this shot?
He has an attack value of two .. the Witch King needs an attack value of 17 (6 defence + 11 hitpoints) or 15 with two Dwarrowdelf Axes equipped.
