    That's the question.

    I think the exhaustion is the cost of the "action" ... Exhaust X to declare X as a defender against Y

    An attack is considered undefended if you can't or don't declare a defender so can you declare Dain as a defender by exhausting him?

    1. Exhaust Dain -> WIL reduced to 1 -> he can't be declared as a defender but keeps being exhausted or
    2. Exhaust Dain and declare him as the defender -> WIL reduced to 1 -> proceed with the next step of enemy attack

    So .. i think it will be 2. because before you exhaust a character to declare hin as a defender you will check if its legal. After that you declare him by exhausting him, not the other way round.

    All really great suggestions JanB. I particularly like Fresh Tracks to use up some leadership resources because it's such an underused card.

     

     

    I think a Steward on Thalin would be another good change, but with this deck I had in mind 3 or 4 player games where there is a good chance that someone else is using Steward.

     

    The main problem with bringing Theodred is how often he is exhausted from Peace and Thought.

     

     

    Yep .. Steward often is in other decks ..  Fresh Tracks and Infighting rocks .. while staging when 2 enemies are added you can spread 2 + 2 .. with Fresh Tracks 2 + 3 and with infighting 0 + 5 .. after that snipe with Ranger Bows and finish with Gondorian Spearman with Spear .. so if you are fully equiped .. a 10-hp-enemy can be killed before he makes a swing.

    @Seastan: Nice Deck, but Goblin Cleaver does need a Weapon attached to a hero, so in your deck you never get this to work.

     

    You can use it with a Ranger Bow on Anborn or a Spear on Thalin.

     

     

    Mpf .. doesn't thought about that. A Ranger Bow on Anborn makes sense. .. a Spear on Thalin might be a little too expensive.

    I modified your deck a little bit to be more flexible with cards less with ressources. ( http://seastan.github.io/#/deck/id:7meV5amdxI )

    Added some Fresh Tracks ( to do additional damage besides Anborn and Thalin ) and Infighting to redirect some damage to enemies with higher hitpoints. Additional the Galaadhon Archer do nice support if i have no spear or spearman in my hand.

     

    As an opportunity you can switch Sam for Theodred to gain more resources for a cost of 2 WIL .. i think this decision depends on the partnerdecks :)

    @Jane I like the concept of a direct damage deck that basically cuts enemies down like a buzz saw before they can do anything. I have never been able to get it to work. The heroes you chose seem odd to me. Why not a ranged hero for hand upon the bow? You then put in the lore Anborn, which seems expensive, with traps (but not Ambush). This mixes themes. Why not put in purple Anborn who also does direct damage? Hail of stones is an amazing direct damage card, but only one copy and not enough allies to make it work. I guess I don't quite see what the deck is trying to do.

     

    @Duke: I should have mentioned that the deck is not for Solo .. it's for me in my multiplayer group. As you see "with colors" i used leadership Anborn. The lore vision makes no sense in my deck. As i figured out that i need leadership and lore besides my tactic Thalin i choose Amarthiul because he easily gets the tactics resource icon and aragorn who can use wingfoot, is a sentinel and helps me with out with thread. I mostly run support-decks so the "good" ranged heroes are in other decks. Besides this a good ranged setup requires some cards and this is not my focus.

     

    I find Haldir, Damrod and Thalin to be a really good pairing for this strategy.  Ambush and Ranger Spikes are pivotal to what you are trying to accomplish.  To get multiple uses out of Haldir, either have a second deck that runs Unexpected Courage and/or use a warhorse.  

     

    Then the focus of the deck will be more placing traps and snipe enemies.

     

    Has anyone tried Thalin paired with Leardersip Anborn+Sword Thain+Wingfoot? You could get 2 damage on every enemy right from the start, not to mention giving them all +5 engagement cost.

     

    That was my first idea by building this deck. I think i will make some kind of sideboard with 3 copies of each. I think it is currently one of the best sword-thain-combos.

     

    You could use elf-friend to get Anborn into play for cheap, then sword-thain him.  

     

    How can elf-friend lower the cost of Anborn?

    tried to build a deck around Thalin and his Armor Piercing Ability. Modern enemies are tough with high armor and perhaps low hitpoints. So Thalin and his Fellowship should do a good work:

    Sry for having no card image, but in my mind .. Herugrim should have another wording so it fits better to Théoden:

    Attach to a Rohan hero. Restricted.

     

    Reduce the cost to play Herugrim on Théoden by 1.

     

    Response: After attached Hero is declared as a defender exhaust Herugrim to ready attached hero and add attached hero's WIL to its ATK until the end of phase.
