  1. Yeah.  FFG Customer Service is top shelf.  I had to use their services a couple times since I started playing X-wing, and they've always come through.

The first time I used the Customer Service was for a lost (Y-wing) dial, (and a movement template).

  2. I have a good feeling that Wave 4 may drop at Gen Con this year.  That's why initially I'm looking to get 2 of everything in Wave 4 (Last year, FFG has a limit for purchase of 2 units through use of a "ticket system").  Once Wave 4 hits retail, that will change when more is known about Wave 4 as a whole.  With the news of Wave 4, I cannot wait for Gen Con. :)
That said, I'm very excited about the Headhunters and Phantoms, so I might bump those up to, at minimum, 4 - 5, and 3 - 4 TIE Defenders and E-wings.

  3. Well, said, Hothie.  Yeah -- The game can only get better from here, with what Fantasy Flight has coming down the pike.  with the Imperial Aces Expansion and the Epic ships.

. . . And a Happy and safe New Year to you and yours.  . . . . Oh yeah, and a fun 2014 too.

  4. First off, welcome to the game.
To address the topic of what to get you off 'n flying -- I would definitely go with two Starters, if not for anything, for the extra "supplies" (tokens, movement templates, and dice [each starter comes with three Attack and Defense dice]).
Get at least one expansion (X-wing and TIE Fighter; more pilots than what's in the starter, and upgrade cards).

And get the Slave 1 (Firespray) over the Lambda Shuttle.
Again, welcome to the game.  You've taken your first step into a larger world.  Have fun!

  5. So what's your buying rationale?

    -Buy by faction

True -- since I play both factions

-Buy to supply myself and my gaming group (me)

True -- I tend to show new players how to play, so yes

    -Buy for desired list

True -- I like to try out new builds

    -Buy to collect

I collect each of the models, in varying quantities, to use in gameplay

    -Buy for cards

Of course -- you can always use more upgrades and talent cards

    -Buy for models

How could you not buy the game for the models.  Compared to the "other" game, these models are lightyears ahead of what they produced.

-Buy to reflect SW universe (me)

-Buy because it's SW and right in front of me (to which I'm incredibly sympathetic/drawn)

Of course -- Being a fan of everything Star Wars straight from beginning, what more can I say about that.

  6. The game mats from Gale Force Nine are made from a high-quality thick vinyl.
It comes rolled in a plastic tube.  If you're worried about the mat being unable to be flat for game play, don't be.  It may be curled around the corners, but that's easily taken care of.

  7. I paid $40 when I got my game mat from GaleForce Nine at Gen Con.  And they are printed on a high-quality vinyl.  So yeah, $30 is alright with me.

  8. I picked up a game mat from GF9 at Gen Con this past August, and I absolutely love it.  I know it's a bit pricey, but it's worth the price.  Before I bought the mat from GF9, I was using a 3'x3' piece of felt.  No more.

  9. For me, it depends.  It depends on what I'm running at the time.  I would also see what my opponent has.  If he is using one peg, I would use two.  If the match is Rebel v. Rebel (or Imp. v Imp.), it would depend on how things are set up.  This is mainly to differentiate the components of the two squads.  I prefer using two pegs, myself though.

  10. To add to this -- What made you a fan of the X-wing Miniatures Game?  Was it Star Wars as a whole?  Or was it the "FlightPath" System?

At the very first announcement that FFG was taking up a game for Star Wars piqued my interest, and that it was going to be a space combat miniatures game increased my interest even more.  When I began playing, I began to enjoy the game mechanic more 'n more, with the free flowing movement.  Albeit, I/we had a pretty bad first "attempt" with WotC's Starship Battles (shudders at the mere mention).

I am a fan of Star Trek as well.  I like to say "I live in the 'Galaxy far far away', but visits the Federation from time to time."  So I would give Star Trek: Attack Wing a shot, playing the game casually.  I know the ships are not up to the same standards as X-wing, but it's all about the game.

The only thing I'm not too fond of about Wizkids/Attack Wing is that to get the "promotional" ships, you have to participate in the "Dominion War" OP Event.  That's Wizkids for ya.  What can you do, eh?  I have not seen FFG hold back product (ships) from the general public after their initial showing.

To conclude, I would love to see what FFG has planned for the FlightPath System in the future.

    Well, that's my two credits.

  11. I like that Idea.
Here's my take on how it should read:

    "Stablize your rear deflectors" [3]

    Rebels Only; Snub Fighters only

Action: At the beginning of the Combat phase, when this ship is being attacked from outside your ship's firing arc, this player may roll an additional Defense die.  This action may only be used once per Combat Phase.

  12. Something I might have to look into.  The "Furball" match looks interesting, indeed.
As for the "Escalation" match, I could see three Outer Rim Smuggler YT-1300s -- (with Anti-Pursuit Lasers, just in case), with snub fighter support, flying a circle around the perimeter; a la the real-world AC-130 Spectre. :/

  13. If you want to see how big the X-wing launch was, take a look at this year's "In-Flight Report" from Gen Con 2013.

If you could not make it to Gen Con, or missed the report that Friday, here's your chance to watch it . . . in its entirety.

I have not really heard of Fantasy Flight Games before X-wing.  Now, I can't get enough from FFG and X-wing (hell, anything Star Wars).  You have made a fan for life.  Just don't screw things up, is all I ask.

  14. That's fine by me.  I recently picked up a game mat, at Gen Con, from GaleForce Nine.

I am still a bit leary about the FFG game tiles.  I have a feeling they are redesigning the tiles, to make them lockable -- so they don't move apart during gameplay.  We'll see.
