  1. I recently picked up three pre-cut (3' X 3') felt mats -- black at Michael's Craft & Hobby Store for 3.99 each.  What a deal . . . and no cropping required.

I called it as far as the pilots who would be in the release for the Falcon. However, I really thought they'd introduce a co-pilot component as one of the marquee features of this expansion, so the fact that Han, Chewie, Lando, and Nien are all separate pilots bums me out. Now, the announcement does say that they bring some rule changes to the game so I suppose that could be one of them, but it doesn't look promising.

I'm relieved that we don't have to bother with copilots, but that's just me.

I hope I scrounge up enough money by Christmas to get these, but I doubt I'll get more than one of each.

Have other people do the scrounching, and ask for them for Christmas -- at least part of the set. gui%C3%B1o.gif

  3. Everyone here seems to be fixated on the "action" itself -- on TIE Fighters and TIE Advanced Fighters (which may do a barrel roll without penalty, and neglected to take into account the "effect" of a "barrel roll" -- "You may then remove 1 enemy target lock from your ship," and the pilot receives a "stress token".  The "carded action", Barrel Roll, to me, is to balance the X-Wings and TIE Advanced; which also have the ability to "target lock" enemy fighters.

That said, the developers should make an addendum to the Barrel Roll action in regards to the TIE Fighters: "When being target locked, you may perform a barrel roll; you may remove 1 enemy target lock, and receive a stress token."

  4. That sounds interesting, but have you figured out asteroid-asteroid collisions?

Also, as for movement, I think smaller asteroids should move at a greater range/pace than larger ones.  That said, if a collision occurs, one of these events could happen:

    1. If a smaller asteroid collides with a larger one, the larger asteroid would remain in place, while the smaller one would "ricochet" off at range 1 since the smaller asteroid moves at a greater speed.
    2. If a small asteroid would hit another one of the same size, they both would react to the collision.

That would be a nice (game) mechanic for a scenario I've been thinking of involving the Millennium Falcon (when "Wave 2" drops cool.gif) and a few TIE Fighters (the escape from Hoth from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back).

I played my first game today, and we had a situation that I haven't seen occur yet.  I had two ties that were pretty close formation.  The first one moved into clear space.  The second one moved in close and collided with a nearby x-wing.  At the point the tie stopped, it was less than a base away from the first tie (very close).  So basically we have a line of ships, tie #1 -> tie #2 -> x-wing, with the x-wing and tie #2 in contact.  Of course, tie #2 gets no action.  The x-wing then activates, and his move is a straight move that will go through tie #2 and collide with tie #1.  The problem is that there is no space along the template between the two ties to place the x-wing.  We assumed the x-wing collides, but with who?  Our final uneducated ruling was that the x-wing couldn't move at all, since there was no space for it anywhere along it's move template.  Did we do this right?

Any fighter may pass through any other fighter without penalty.  Remember: the game is supposed to represent 3D space.

True.  It looks like the X-Wing did not move (on paper, anyway), but it did.  It moved through TIE #2, and collided with TIE #1.  The X-Wing would lose the action, true.  But it would still be able to attack TIE #1; since it's not based up on that fighter -- as long as any part of the base of TIE #1 is in the firing arch of the X-Wing, of course.

Without a visual representation, I cannot be totally certain of the chain of events.  I hope that clears that up. preocupado.gif

  6. I've been thinking about this for some time now (alright, right after Gen Con, when FFG announced "Wave 2").  With the announcement of the Millennium Falcon, I've been thinking of the scenario (from Episode V) where the Millennium Falcon flies through the asteroid field, escaping from Hoth.  Six asteroids doesn't seem to cut it, and I don't want to buy Core Sets just for the asteroids alone.  Also having more asteroids of varying sizes would be a bit more challenging for skirmishes too.

    Any thoughts.

I think the hardest part will be ship orientation.

I totally agree. I know you there is an option to allow units to be placed freely, not to a grid. I just need out how to rotate units freely.

Not to mention the "barrel Roll" Action -- placing, in this case, movement 1 ruler ANYWHERE along the side of a piece, and having the ability to move the piece ANYWHERE along the other side of the ruler. *shrugs*

Because this is a space combat game. Other than Ben encouraging Luke in the trench run, I don't remember the Force being directly utilized during space combat during the movies. An argument could be made for enhanced awareness/reflexes, but I think that's reflected in their pilot skills/abilities.

I for one hope the game stays as is. Putting a bunch of Force abilities would ruin it.

I was always under the impression that Ben, through the Force, calmed Luke down enough to feel the Force.  And because of that action, Luke was able to focus (pun intended), and hit the target.

  10. Be aware that the TARGET Stores that DO have them "in stock" or in "limited stock" may just have the Core Set, and not any of the Expansions.

I'm thinking about giving the two stores on Indy's north side a call tomorrow to confirm, or not that they have the game actually in stock.

  11. At Gen Con I picked up: 1 Core Set, 2 X-Wings, 2 Y-Wings 1 TIE Fighter, and 1 TIE Advanced.  In hindsight, I wish I had gotten more TIE Fighters and TIE Advanced fighters.

Whenever the game drops, I plan to get 1 or 2 more of each ship.  Unless the dice packs arrives with the rest of the game, I plan to get one of those as well.  If not, then I'll get another Core set.  I might just get another Core Set anyway.  We'll see what happens when the time comes.

So since the closure of the plano box is too tight to slip the rules in (overall a good thing) I decided to do something about it.

I was at FedEx today and picked up some airbill pouches.  The rule book fits in them perfectly and it sticks well to the outside of the container.

Ingenious, the use of the airbill pouches.
