  1. Forgive me if this has already been addressed.  My question is what is, if any, the order you need to perform a free action?  The question stems from the errata (ver. 1.0 -- Updated 10/23/2012) for the upgrade, Expert Handling, which now states, "Action: Perform a free barrel roll action.  If you do not have [barrel Roll] action icon, receive 1 stress token.  You may remove 1 enemy target lock from your ship."

If you are able to chose the order in which you perform actions, I believe you may be able to perform your normal action before you perform any free action, thus retaining the former if the free action results in gaining a stress token.

  2. Nice write-up, Doug.  You definitely put a lot of thought in this.

We also now have Assault Missiles. I know there was much ballyhoo when this was announced, but I think clearer heads have prevailed. I have used Assault Missiles twice, and have failed to hit both times. I don't think this will be quite as game-changing as people originally thought. It seems that Homing Missiles are a better choice due to not having to spend your target lock to use them.

Due to the effects of the Assault Missile, Speaking for the Empire now.  I think that a lot of the squads will be comprised of ships/pilots that function better as a "lone wolf" -- TIE Interceptors mainly, and keep the squads out of the effective range for collateral damage.  Only forming up once the Assault Missiles have been spent for a counter-attack.  I feel that ships that have these missiles will be the HVTs of the game, akin to a Y-Wing (with the requisite ion cannon).

It may just be me.  The thing I can't seem to wrap my head around, without any "official" input, is the idea of a Shield Upgrade for the rank 'n file TIE Fighters and Interceptors. *shrugs*  It will definitely help in their short-term survivablity, is for sure.

  3. Just a reminder: There's a free play/demo of the Star Wars LCG, Star Wars Miniatures Game, Netrunner; to name a few at The Game Preserve -- Fshion Mall Commons (8487 Union Chapel Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240) from 12:00 - 3:00 today -- later, if the demand warrants it. So, if you would like to learn these games, or just hang out, please come and join us.

There will be a FREE 100-point X-Wing tournamet next Saturday, January 26, beginning at 12:00 and ending around 5:00.  For more info, check out the Game Preserve's Events Calendar: http://fm.gamepreservestores.com/.

  4. I absolutely love the Star Wars Radio Dramas, especially Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back . . . Return of the Jedi, not so much.

I had copies of all of them on cassette for the longest time, and eventually bought the CD box set.  These were the impetus for me to buy an 30GB iPod, and have them in my iTunes library.  I still enjoy listening to them (mainly the first two) on long road trips.

  5. I know this isn't the forum for it, but here goes.  Some of the X-Wing "regulars" at the Game Preserve - Fashion Mall Commons (on the north side) is having a X-Wing demo, or something a little more "serious" (to get ready for a X-Wing tourney the next week) during the "open" game day on Saturday, Jan. 19 -- from 12:00 - 3:00.  If I'm able to make it, I'm planning to bring my X-Wing collection, as well as the card game.  No telling what will happen.  Just covering my bases.  I'm willing to forgo any X-Wing play, or stay later to play a game or two of the card game (which I haven't had a decent chance to do yet).

  6. Welcome to the boards, Sparky.  Depending on your relative location to the north side, The Game Preserve - Fashion Mall Commons is holding a tournament on Saturday, January 26; and it looks like there will be X-Wing demos being held the week before, on January 19 (it all depends on what's the game de jour that day).  If I happen to make it to the Game Preserve on the 19th, I would happy to get you introduced to the game.

If your closer to the south side, keep tabs with the Game Preserve - Greenwood.  In any case, hope to see you at an event in the future.  Good luck.

Going 50/50 is a bad idea. I would go 60/40 and use the 40% faction as your affiliation to guarantee a resource match. There is also the neutral objective set that helps you ignore resource matches.

I was wondering about the split myself, and the best way to choose the affiliation.  I was looking at a 70/30 split.  I can now see that a 60/40 split seems to be a bit better.

What is is your take on using multiple (where applicable) Objective Sets in the split?  Where should the multiple set come from?

Well here it is, remember its just for fun. You may think the AT-AT moving one is too slow but the logic was it would be on a longer base so measuring from front to back on a maneuver template still gives it some distance.

    As for upgrades???????

Not bad.  The speed is spot on.  I would not give them the capability of turning, though (hence the 0 Agility).  I would put Gen. Veers' cost up there with Darth Vader; not standard pilot.

I am currently designing myself a custom tray from battlefoam to hold all my current models and my desired purchases from wave 2. All that remains is for me to designate a thickness of foam for the tray so I am looking for a couple of you lucky kessel run winners to supply me with a height in inches of both the falcon and slave 1.

    Thanks in advanced

Battlefoam already has a storage solution for Wave 2's launch.  Here's the link.

I use the 9 card pages.  With the back of one page and the front of the next, I can make 3 rows, with each row showcasing and entire objective set.

Here's a picture to show you what I mean. http://imgur.com/pcFT5

    Impressive.  Most impressive, ingenious even.

I wish I had thought of that. :)  Do you put both affiliations in one binder, or did you split 'em up into two binders?  What size of a binder do you suggest?

  11. This will be my first "real" foray into "epic" card games.  I dabbled in the usual CCG/TCG of the past -- e.g. Dragonball et al, and Magic: The Gathering, but they didn't take hold with me, mainly due to the micromanaging of each individual card.  So yeah, I'm really hopeful for this game, and its mechanic.  And because it's Star Wars . . . naturally.  I hope to get in a game or two in soon.

  12. I totally agree with the idea that tournaments need to be a split between Rebels and Imperials.  That way we know who the true champion is -- the one that can handle both sides.  That's why I brought event registration sheets for both sides, but fielded an Imperial squad.

I believe that there were talks at Worlds about implementing this in the future.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

  13. I too live on Indy's north side.  When WotC's Star Wars Minis was all the rage, I used to meet up with friends at the local Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Carmel, but for the two Star Wars X-Wing events (a friendly demo session, around the launch; and more recently, the Kessel Run Preview Tournament), I've been making my way down to The Game Preserve -- Fashion Mall Commons.

If you want to meet for a friendly game, I could make my way to Barnes & Noble in Carmel, but for something more "serious", I would suggest The Game Preserve.  That said, I'm thinking about getting in touch with The Game Preserve on the north side to hold demo meetings for both X-Wing and The Card Game for all the "Christmas noobs" after the holidays.

  14. I would like to see more acrylic tokens and templates.  I know there are Focus tokens from Worlds, and (red & green) range rulers from the Kessel Run events.  Why not make a set of each movement type available for each sanctioned OP event.  That should ensure a decent turn out for the events -- in order to get the next set of acrylic movement templates.  And eventually get into the other tokens used for the game, e.g. red acrylic "stress" tokens and "evade" tokens.

As far the over-sized cards, I kinda like them for what they are -- a nice piece of art, but I would never use them in play.  I would also stop right here with the Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader card.  Any more would become tacky.

  15. I received the double-sided, over-sized (Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader) stat card and a red acrylic range ruler at the Kessel Run event this past weekend.
They are amazing.  I'm not sure if I'll use them aside from friendly games.

  16. Indianapolis Metro area here (north side of Indy, to be exact).

I'm really looking forward to this card game.  I will, however, have to wait to play it until after Christmas -- It's on my "list".  So, we'll see if the "Fat Man" comes through.

I also play Star Wars: X-Wing.  We had three Kessel Run Preview Tournament in the Indianapolis area.  I only made it to one event, though.
