Depending on the build, if I two or more generic pilots, I would also use the numbers. But, in general, I have the edges of each base marked using a colored Sharpie. I also use this method to identify my tokens, templates and asteroids -- even on the maneuver dials. As an additional "security" measure for the tokens and asteroids, I place tiny, round dots on one side of the tokens.

Guess I will be playing a lot of pick up games at Gencon….
SteveSpikes replied to Lord_of_Itza's topic in X-Wing
I would just show up with 4 generic tickets. Good luck. I managed to get in with just under 10 slots to go -- whew! I had my "wish list" set up already, and right at 12 noon I jumped on to submit the list, all the while hoping I got in (I was 1459 in line, and there was only 60 slots for the tournament). Now I just need to think of a squad to run, and start practicing, and tweaking the squad . . . . under the premise that Wave 3 will drop at, or before Gen Con. I do agree with your dilemma. I do wish Fantasy Flight would have opened the tournament up to more players, considering the popularity of the game, itself. I know a lot of my friends who play the game may not have gotten in. We'll see. -
For me, it's the time of day when I choose to check this forum. During the "day", for me, it's off 'n on. Later on in the evening, I have more of a chance to navigate the forums without too much trouble.
-
I have three "Squints", myself. I may get one or two more before I'm all set 'n done.
-
My question is, will there be some way to lock the tiles together so they can't slip apart during gameplay? That will be my reason not to buy it. I was hoping for a solid starfield mat, myself.

I used FFG's Customer Support when I lost a maneuver template and dials. I put in the request on a Sunday (afternoon), and the parts arrived later that week; not just the parts I requested, but with a more tokens along the maneuver dial. The great thing is that it is all FREE. I also received a hand-written note thanking me for the support of the game (X-wing). I broke some pegs from the fighters recently, so I will have to go to them again soon -- before the Regionals. Here's the link: http://parts.fantasyflightgames.com/

Redbranch said: I would prefer the B-Wing was horizontal on its base. I don't care for the way it looks standing up. What do the rest of you think? I think the B-wing could be set at a 45-degree angle, with the cockpit at the upper-left, would be alright to me.

I totally agree. That said, the image in the announcement looks to be a "prototype". We'll see when the game launches at Gen Con. I just hope it's not cost-prohibitive, like Star Trek: Fleet Captains ($99 just for the Core Set).
-
I had to read the announcement twice, just to understand what I just read, seeing the Enterprise-D with the "FlightPath" mechanic. I'll just say, bully for Fantasy Flight to license the "FlightPath" mechanic. I'd like to see how well it'll turn out with another franchise. Now we can settle it once 'n for all . . . who would win, Star Wars or Star Trek.

Red 55 said: Hi all, Recently ordered the core set and all Wave 1 expansions and can't wait to start playing. I should have my order in a few more days. What's even better is that my 7 year old son can't wait to play either! I've been pouring thru the boards digesting as much possible. This looks like a great resource, and a helpful community. Are there any other suggestions for a new player, before I dive in? Thanks!! Welcome to the game! You and your son are gonna have a blast, I'll tell ya. How many Expansions are you planning to get initially? How many do think you want to end up with? One thing, Since you're only getting one Core Set (yes?), I would, at least, get a Dice Pack. That way you have enough dice to play with. The Core Set only comes with three Attack dice and three Defense dice. In certain situations you might need at least four or five dice. If, after you guys have played a few games, you might want to get another Core Set mainly for the "extras" -- tokens, templates, and dice you'll get. Are you planning to get Wave 2, that hit game stores within the past couple weeks in this purchase? Aside from the Wave 2 ships, it has NEW upgrades that can be used with the First Wave of ships. Again, welcome to the game. And have a great time

Went to my FLGS on Wednesday, after reading a Facebook post stating that they had got them in, and got my one YT-1300, one Firespray, and two each of the A-Wings; and "Squints". Had a chance to finally use them yesterday in two victorious games. I am loving the NEW upgrades, especially "Push the Limit" (Used that quite a bit during the two games).
-
After a discussion with friends on using Wave 2 upgrades on Wave 1 pilots, we ended up agreeing that Darth Vader with "Push the limit" is just an outrageously nasty combo. Vader with the ability to choose not one, . . . not two, . . . but three actions. Vader (albeit with a stress token tacked on) -- Target Lock, or Barrel Roll, and Focus & Evade. I didn't add Engine Upgrade because that would be too cost prohibitive, at a cost of 4 points. Has anyone run a squad with this Vader set up yet? Any thoughts.

Now that I have my hands on the initial offering from Wave 2 (one YT-1300, one Firespray, two each of the A-Wing and TIE Interceptor), how many more models should get my hands on to be (somewhat) effective? I am thinking about getting at least one - two more of the A-Wing and Interceptor in the near future (My Wave 1 collection is in my sig below.)

As far as my LGSs go, they're out -- not sure when the next shipment is due in. But my local B&N, as of Feb. 19, has 4 starters, 4 X-Wings, 4 TIE Advanced, and 2 Y-Wings. My suggestion is to begin your search "outside the box". I'll be makin' my bee-line to my local B&N. I have an inside man ( ; Shhh! Hothie; lol), and a 10% discount at B&N.
-
My guess that Wave 2 should hit our FLGS within two weeks, ten days on the inside. Now I'm getting really pumped for Wave 2. It cannot come soon enough.
-
Thanks, Doug! All I have to say to this is, it's about time! I might just have to try on each one these avatars. See which one I really like.

Why pay for something that FFG will replace at no cost to you? All you need to do is go to the Customer Service page: http://parts.fantasyflightgames.com/, fill out the request form. I recently needed to replace a lost movement template and maneuver dials for the Y-Wing. I put in a request for those missing components on Feb 3, received an email letting me know that the items have been shipped. I got the parts in the mail on Monday. When I opened the package, to my surprise, not only did I receive the missing maneuver dials, but I got virtually a new card with extra tokens as well. I also received a hand-written note -- "Thanks for suporting us, Steve! Hopefully this gets you flying again!" All I have to say is Fantasy Flight's Customer Service ROCKS!

I would have to agree that this game is easily the easiest card game I've played, and I'm not much for TCGs/CCGs. Since it is Star Wars, I thought i would give this card game a go . . . this time. I really like the idea of the "Objective Sets" -- where you deal with a set of cards, instead of each card individually. I'm not much of a micromanager. I also like the fact that you and your opponent have essentially the same cards -- no surprises. I don't think I'll play competitively, but I do plan on getting all the "Force Packs". The main reason being, you can glean what's in your opponent's Command Deck by seeing what objectives are in play at that moment.

Thanks for sharing, guys. They look awesome.

I bought three 3'x3' felt mats (pre-cut) for $3.99 each at my local Michael's art supply store.

Getting More Dice
SteveSpikes replied to Nestor4's topic in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game
I was wondering the same thing. Although, for those who have a "smart" device . . . who doesn't nowadays, FFG has a dice app available through the App Store (for iPods, iPads, and iPhones), and Google Play has it available for android devices -- price is, I believe, $4.99. Good thing is it does include the dice of the X-Wing Miniatures Game, and it is tournament legal. Downside to the virtual dice is, there is nothing like rolling dice in a role-playing game. -
Suitable minis?
SteveSpikes replied to Cornelius1's topic in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game
That is a great idea, using the WotC Star Wars Minis for use in this game. Good thing I held on to my collection. You never know when you're gonna need them. I know someone who got rid (sold) his collection. Recycling is always the best action. -
I would consider myself a highly avid fan, being that I grew up with the "original" Original Trilogy where . . . here's a shocker for ya . . . Han shot first. I was six years old when Star Wars was released on May 25, 1977. You could say I was born at the right time to be awed by the spectical that is Star Wars, and take full advantage of the Star Wars franchise. I had almost every toy that Kenner (not Hasbro) released. My mother would bring some of my toys, the fighters (X-Wing and TIE Fighter) mainly, to my elementary school during recess. I owe the Star Wars Saga a debt I will never be able to repay. My love of Star Wars is responsible for the friendships I have to this day, and that "network" continues to grow. As a kid, we had had an Atari 2600, so naturally I had most of the Star Wars games from the Star Wars: The Arcade Game and Empire Strikes Back. I even had the Jedi Arena game cartridge. I didn't get into the Star Wars Role-playing Game by West End Games until the Second Edition, which still has to be my favorite. I played the Star Wars Miniatures Game from Wizards of the Coast from "day one". I stopped playing when Wizards lost the license, and left it alone. I still have the minis in storage, though. I do admire those fans, many of them are friends of mine, that try to continue line with the "V-Sets". So when I heard that Fantasy Flight Games picked up the license, and was creating totally new games, my group jumped at the chance to 'test it for for Fantasy Flight. So when it comes to Star Wars gaming, I haven't looked back. So yeah, I am excited to see what Fantasy Fight has coming for us.
