Angel of Death reacted to Errant Knight in Regiments
Of course, one must keep in mind that there is no division level, so the regiment must have the services. I have a fairly recent IG Codex and it doesn't address any of these sections. In fact, it mostly focuses on company organization and that's fluid.
So yes, Intel and Security might be one of those sections. This might include a staff dedicated to collating data and passing it along to higher echelons, an organic recon element, and an MP detachment of something less than platoon size.
A Signals section is almost a necessity, but they might be part and parcel of the former section given that specialized vehicles with radio (and radar, ladar, cryptography, etc.) stations are included. That is to so say, both data gathering and data transmission might be inherent in the same vehicles.
Ops & Planning might be part of Ordnance, Maintenance, and QM, but those are absolutely necessary, so I'd give them their own section.
I can't see a section for Training, not that it isn't needed. Given the ad hoc nature of the IG troops either come with built-in training (Death World, Hiver Gangs, etc.), or they get it from their comrades, or they get it on the field (graduates of the School of Hard Knocks).
The one critical section that seems to be missing is engineering. I can't see calling for a Tech Priest every time a rockrete bunker needs to be poured, let alone the fields of mines or miles of razor wire that need to be laid. In fact, I'd think that regiments are short enough on tech priests that they wouldn't be calling in one every time they need to blast roads through forests and mountains or throw up pre-fab bridges. Even bridges built from scratch shouldn't require a tech priest.
And mind you, this doesn't include the Ministorum priests, AdMech tech priests, psykers, astropaths, commissars, and Departmento Munitorum adepts that seem to accompany many regiments. Those last are indispensible, especailly if maintenance and support elements aren't organic, as Lynata has suggested (I really don't see meals being very regular this way, though, and that's rough on morale). The whole system seem jury-rigged and my suspension of disbelief is stressed to the limit to think this would all work on a galactic scale.

Angel of Death reacted to Major Kimenth in Revenge and Retribution - A Rogue Trader Campaign
Chapter 51 – Balls the size of Snotlings!
Krawkin Feckward was the first to start shouting questions at Thelonious, quickly joined by High Inquisitor Lorric (which is probably the only time in history that they were on the same side). Krawkin seemed to be more put out that Thelonious had overstepped his bounds on the ship than the fact that he had executed the prisoner, whilst Lorric’s line of questioning was much more dangerous, but Thelonious managed to deflect it enough with false platitudes, and true life experiences of Daemons, so much that the Inquisitor finally relented. The end part of the Inquisitor’s speech, on the other hand, had Thelonious, Yorke and Rolaine trying their best not to laugh in his face…
“Thelonious, from everything you have said, it appears that you are trying to cover up for something. However, I have seen the implacable vigor that you prosecute the war against the Ruinous Powers, and have personal, first-hand experience of that. I also know the purity of Jonas Constantine and know that he would never be party to any attempt to truck with the Ruinous Powers. Thus, I am convinced that no-more needs to be said on the matter.”
After the interrogators had started cleaning up the prisoner, flamers first, Krawkin took Thelonious and Lorric to meet the remnants of the strike force that he had sent down… although Thelonious realized that a man such as Krawkin did not suffer failure graciously and that they had only had a stay of execution. The story that the strike force had to tell was somewhat as Thelonious had expected: They had gone down onto the planet, seen the mass of people moving across the blasted landscape and landed at the edge of it… then they had gone out to take some “captives,” only for the mass of people nearby to turn, as one, and overwhelm them with clubs and fists and low tech weapons. The fact that they seemed to have some kind of Hive Mind going on concerned Lorric very much, if they were all linked then it made it that much more difficult to catch them by surprise. The strike force also mentioned that the mists on the planet seemed to obscure some of the horde, which is how they were taken unawares… they shouldn’t have missed them, not with scans or with their eyes, but they did.
This made Thelonious even more glad that they had not sent anyone down onto the planet surface, anywhere near the mass of people that Isendark had seen, especially when the final word from the strike force was that they had been able to pick up something at the edge of their hearing, which also distracted them and seemed to offer them things. Lorric knew exactly what this was… the workings of the Ruinous Powers were insidious and subtle, even those of the Blood God… he was convinced that the entire planet was now lost, and said as much to Thelonious. With Thelonious realizing that he had as much information as he was likely to get, he and Lorric left Feckward to mete out his brand of justice… and the sound of single fired Bolt Shells echoed through the corridors of the ship as the strike force paid the price for their failure. Thelonious, and the command crew who had made the trip with him, made their way back to the Hope in the Void, where the he immediately convened a conference with the Captains who were in the Zayth system… making sure to record everything to send to the Eldar afterwards.
The way each Captain greeted the Lord High Captain spoke volumes about their relationship. Lady Orleans and Thelonious embraced, a lingering kiss not going unnoticed either. Sylvia Locke and Thelonious shared a hearty handshake with a wry grin… they had been through a lot together. Jeremiah Blitz could not take his eyes off Natasha Yorke (the one that got away) as he greeted Thelonious and Krawkin and Thelonious shared the merest of head nods. Sylvia Locke, as was often the case, didn’t waste any time before asking Thelonious what he had discovered about Zayth. As Thelonious laid out the situation on the ground, warts and all, the Captains around the conference table were quiet… they were here for various reasons, but most of them were here to help out the Deepstalker House… and yet they weren’t hearing anything that remotely sounded like a plan. Thelonious, as he had confided in his command crew, was also grasping at straws… and the rest of the command crew were also stumped… they had a Warp Storm coming in less than a day and they had no plan what to do when it arrived. Not willing to sit there and do nothing, the group decided they would bombard the massive migration of people with their Macrobatteries.
The Aegis, Hope in the Void, Starweaver and Ordained Destiny set themselves up quite close together (by space standards) and then, on Thelonious’s signal, they spent the next twelve hours sending hab block sized pieces of ordinance down onto the planet. Isendark had already ordered some of his best pilots to be circling the general area, and they called out targets that happened to be two, abandoned, landships… Macrocannon shells started landing around them until they narrowed the range and, soon afterwards, even through the red cloud cloaking Zayth, they could see the explosions of the landships. Whilst the bombardment would have, heavily, curtailed the movement of people, it didn’t seem to have accomplished much other than giving their gunnery crews some target practice… Thelonious was frustrated. Constantine, fearing the effect any rumours of what was happening on Zayth would do to crew morale was taking ever greater sermons as the crew of the Hope in the Void, already rather pious anyway, came to listen to the High Cardinal of the Koronus Expanse… and still time ticked on. Yorke, who was rather bored, had taken up using the Hope’s impressive scanning array to just scan for anything she could see… so she was the first to identify the incoming Warp Signature.
Any thoughts of ordering the ship to battle stations was rendered immaterial as Yorke recognized the ship… it was the Annihilator… Naj Armardi’s ship. Yorke was quick to send a message to the Hellebore, warning the Eldar to stay away as the Armardi house had always been one that hated and despised the Xenos… which made it stranger why Naj Armardi seemed to respect Thelonious, despite having an Ork as part of his command crew! After appraising Naj of the current situation (during which Naj asked “well, where are the cyclonic torpedoes”) the Annihilator took its place amongst the rest of the ships… bombarding the planet but not really accomplishing anything. Thelonious called an emergency meeting of his command crew… they had put out the call for people to gather at Zayth and now they had no idea what to do… it was intolerable! It was at that time, at their lowest ebb, with no thoughts popping into their heads, that Bazak piped up... the Ork had an idea! Bazak had noticed that the Annihilator was fitted with Prow Torpedo Tubes and asked Thelonious if he could “prokur” one for Bazak so he might “change” it.
Any questions to Bazak about what he planned on doing to a Torpedo was met with random words and ramblings that may have included words like “Strawberries” and “Ded Gud” but, with no real option opening up before them, and with a heavy sigh, Thelonious contacted Naj Armardi and arranged for a Torpedo to be delivered. Bazak then spent a good 2 hours “improving” the Torpedo although even the Tech Priests who were there could not actually fathom what the Ork had done to the ordinance… but it was belching black smoke from places it shouldn’t and, in general, looked pretty **** dangerous! However, Bazak assured everyone, with a toofy grin, that when it was fired at the planet, it would lead them to where they needed to go… not that the Ork would tell people what that actually meant… it was enough to make Constantine shake his head in bewilderment… they were trusting the potential fate of a planet to an Ork… for Emperor’s sake! Thelonious, for obvious reasons, was keeping this development quiet from the rest of the Captains, as the Torpedo was sent back to Naj Armardi, ready to be fired.
As everyone (apart from Bazak) held their breath, the Annihilator fired the Torpedo at the planet and everything seemed to not explode. As the Torpedo sped towards the planet, as it was just about to enter the atmosphere, it started shuddering and big, red fins erupted from the side and the Torpedo suddenly took a hard 90 degree turn. The flight path of the Torpedo started making more erratic movements when, suddenly, a communication device that was strapped to Bazak came to life and the command crew were treated to the sound of an absolutely thrilled Snotling, trying to pilot the Torpedo! Another Booster rocket was deployed from somewhere and then fell off, firing the Torpedo even faster, setting it spinning and then it entered the atmosphere. The homing beacon that had been fitted to this specific Torpedo allowed the command crew to trace it, even through the sensor defeating atmosphere… and, at the last second, it lurched away and smashed into a mountain. “Don’t worri, dat’s spozed to ‘appen!” Unsurprisingly, this did not really give the command crew the greatest confidence but, with nothing left to lose, they sent out the co-ordinates to the rest of the ships and started bombarding it.
After another few hours of bombardment the Mountain was no longe really worthy of the name, more a high level plateau and the command crew decided to go and take a look… although the only one with any degree of enthusiasm was Bazak. Under the impressive piloting skills of Isendark, they touched down on the, macrocannon blasted, landscape that used to be a mountain top and the command crew, all fully enclosed in environmentally sealed armour (except Bazak), started to search. After an hour of fruitless searching, during which time tempers started fraying, Yorke decided to use her Auspex to filter into the maddening voice that she could hear, just outside her hearing… but could not manage to do it. Not willing to be defeated by this, she handed it to Bazak and gave the Ork carte blanche to find the voices… which the Ork did with Aplomb. Over each internal communicator came the horrific and corrupted voice, full blast and chanting disgusting words that made their skin crawl. It brought most of the command crew to their knees before Thelonious shot the Auspex with a Bolt Pistol and then shot Bazak for good measure!
“Don’t. Do. That. Again!”
It was Constantine that put the mood of the command crew into words, when he told Thelonious that this was a complete and utter waste of time and Thelonious could not do anything but agree. The command crew returned to the Hope in the Void, defeated with only a few hours until the Warp Storm was supposed to arrive… there seemed to be nothing left to do but wait. However, further scanning of the planet with their Aeronautica gave the command crew more of a view of the planet, and what they found was something that Lorric told them was bad news… there were 8 separate “seas of humanity” on the planet, the unholy number of the Blood God, and so the ships started bombarding the planet at random… although Thelonious could not shake the feeling that they might be doing the entity’s work for them. A couple of hours later, the sensors on every single ship started going berserk as they picked up the Warp Storm, entering the system… prompting lots of Gellar Fields to be activated and the ships to scatter away from its path… both in realspace and in the warp.
Because of this corruption of the scanners, Yorke almost missed the sensor readings approaching them from behind and underneath… 6 separate ships about to translate into the Zayth System. As soon as the ships entered the system, everyone’s communication systems were taken over by loud prayers to the God-Emperor of Mankind… House Berenson had arrived… and with half their fleet! The sound of cheering on the bridge of the Hope in the Void was quite intense as Thelonious welcomed Lord Tyrone Berenson to the fight for Zayth and pointed out the Warp Storm… he didn’t think he needed to go into any more details… at a stroke, their fighting force had doubled! However, Lorric and Tyrone greeted each other like old friends and Lorric went into seclusion to speak to his friend and ally… not knowing that Yorke had managed to break the current Inquisition Ciphers and was thus listening in. It seemed that Lorric had sent an extra message to Berenson, requesting his aide personally, and informed the Rogue Trader that they could be witnessing a Warp Incursion in the Zayth system… but that, with the will of the God-Emperor, they would prevail.
As their sensors reported to them, the gathered Captains could see the Warp Storm diminishing in width, but maintaining its “mass,” it seemed to be turning into some kind of arrow, which was aimed at the Heart of Zayth. As they watched, fascinated but horrified, the “arrow” pierced Zayth, directly through the Core, before stopping and then the energy coruscated over the entire planet, covering the red atmosphere with a riot of colours. Somehow, although there was no word that humans could find to describe what was happening, the red atmosphere merged with the riot of pigments, showing five separate colours (red, blue, pink, green and purple) before starting to crush the planet… a sound that made all the Captains turn off their communications until it was over. As the planet, and the Warp Storm, became smaller and smaller, until only a sliver remained, some poor positive souls were thinking it was over… until it exploded outwards and upwards, looking like a giant funnel which extended and opened widely at the “top.” Immediately, the Warp Scriers on the Hope in the Void started going ballistic… Yorke began reading 30 different ships coming from the direction of the Funnel.
As the other Captains started reporting similar findings, the Chaos Fleet from the Screaming Vortex shuddered into realspace. There were ships of all different kinds, many raiders and frigates interspaced with Light Cruisers and Cruisers and then, to the horror of all, 2 of the “ships” that Yorke had spotted turned out to be just one… a Desolator class Battleship… the Eternity of Pain! Thelonious took one look at that monster of a ship and then sent out a message to all the other Captains who had joined him for this battle. “The only thing that springs to mind is an old Guardsman’s prayer: ‘My Armour is Contempt, My Shield is Disgust, My Sword is Hatred and in the Emperor’s Name, let none survive!’ I will be going after the Battleship, please try and keep the rest of them off me!” Platitudes from the other Captains started flooding in at Thelonious’s bravery/suicidal instinct with Locke calling him a “Magnificent Bastard;” Blitz asking him to “bring Yorke back for him, as I haven’t tapped that yet;” Lady Orleans said something unprintable in this historical novel and the rest offered their best luck. And with that, the Battle for Zayth began!
The Hope in the Void seemed to leap to its task, speeding through the void, directly at the Chaos Battleship. On the way, they passed two Chaos Raiders but, such was the expertise on board their ship that they blew one of them up and left the other as a drifting hulk, as the combined Firepower of their Macrocannons, Bombers and Bazak inspired Hit and Run attacks caused catastrophic damage aboard them… first blood to the Imperium! Mistress Valentina, in her recently installed Astropathic Battle Chambers, was more focused on the return fire that she knew was coming, focusing her power through her choir to deflect them… but even then the sheer firepower that came from the Eternity of Pain overwhelmed her defenses, shorted out the void shields and lances started cutting into the hull. Thelonious knew it could have been MUCH worse, however, and gave the order that Isendark was to utilize his skills to keep the Hope “dancing” in space, as only he could. Constantine busied himself with coordinating both the Medicae Teams and the Disinformation network that always came good in situations like this… some people didn’t need to know the truth to keep on fighting!
Isendarks movements were a literal thing of beauty. It was said that he was obviously in-tune with the God-Emperor of Mankind as some of the reported manoeuvres that he managed to make the Dictator Class Cruiser perform had been deemed impossible by the Imperial Navy. In fact, more than anything else, it was Isendark that proved the difference during the battle of Zayth, with his balletics making it almost impossible for the Chaos Battleship to bracket them in a firing solution. It did have the side effect, however, of making it impossible for Rolaine (despite the help of their sensors and Yorke’s target locking) to land enough fire to break through the banks and banks of void shields that protected the Chaos Battleship. Similarly, the one attempt to get the Bombers (with fighter escort) through the massed ranks of turrets resulted in most of the bomber squadrons being reduced to around half strength… it seemed impossible for conventional weaponry to make a difference in the battle. Luckily, for the Hope in the Void, then, they had one of the pre-eminent Astropaths of the age in Mistress Valentina and, with the support of her Choir and supplemented by White Void, she put her frightening skills to use.
Fires bloomed on the Eternity of Pain, over and over again, causing massive damage to components and the crew whilst the Battleship attempted to do the same to the Hope in the Void, with a much lesser degree of success. Whilst the firefighting attempts on their ship bore fruit, it seemed that the Battleship had to vent some of its compartments… whilst it was being performed in space, the circumstances seemed to have turned it into a psychic duel, and one that Mistress Valentina was winning! However, there was an organic growth on the back of the Battleship and it had started glowing… but the Hope in the Void could not move that fast or change their direction easily, not with Isendark keeping the Battleship from destroying them with one, well placed, burst. Thelonious was also keeping in contact with his fellow Captains, keeping an eye on the overall strategic overview. Sylvia Locke was, as expected, using her ship with aplomb and skill, breaking open the hulls of one Chaos Ship after another. Lady Orleans, in the smallest ship, was taking on a Cruiser and was running rings round the lumbering ship, sending lances through the hull.
Jeremiah Blitz and Naj Armardi were working together to double team a Grand Cruiser whist Krawkin Feckward was sticking to the outskirts of the battle… obviously his heart wasn’t really in the fight. Tyrone Berenson and his fleet were working like a well-oiled machine, taking apart one after another… although none of the ships were coming through it unscathed… each of them were taking damage and the Chaos forces had numbers on their side… attrition was certainly not in their favour. Thelonious knew that they needed to deal with the Battleship, to put it out of commission, and so turned to Isendark and gave the order… -
Angel of Death got a reaction from Errant Knight in Getting an Exitus Rifle - how Hard Can it be?
Custom Rifle, is the way to go with Custom Ammo is the way to go. If you found a Exitus Rifle, you are going to break the genelock. Better to build a Customized Rifle with Ammo for him.

Angel of Death reacted to MorbidDon in Free Map - Sprawl Site 2 (Urban Map - The Gates)
Here's another Urban map I made some time ago...
Its a T-Intersection with some sort of "Gates" towards the northern direction of the map
Part of the concept herein was to create an expansive enough map whereby the combatants all aren't in Short Range of one another - I prolly did fail (by the vanilla raw rules) on that - but for me and my modified "grid distance/range" houserules this maps works out great!

Angel of Death reacted to danp164 in Rogue Trader, a story of Exiles
Second Session
A Snowballs chance in hell
So freshly recovered of fate points, mostly recovered of hull points and entirely recharged of health points our ignoble adventurers strike out on the actual mission they were given in the first place, to re-establish imperial contact and control with a system known as “Kraken's Call”
Now I just want to put here that I felt sorry for our dear navigator, this trip was to an unknown location using sketchy maps at best that hadn't been verified in decades and after informing the crew that by her estimate the trip should only take about 2 months in the warp... there was a feeling of lynching in the air. While the navigators estimate proved wholly accurate (With judicious use of fate points) and the trip went by largely uneventful (More fate points) having barely avoiding a warp storm (Last of the fate points) its fair to say the ship and its crew made the transition back to realspace somewhat... drained but importantly intact!
The hustle and bustle of post warp jump affairs on the bridge mainly amounted tot he rogue trader repeatedly demanding to know what was in the system they had just jumped to and Zlad repeatedly bashing the augur screens to be able to answer him whilst Putus cried quietly in a corner for seeing his ship so thoroughly abused. 3 Planets and a sun made up the system of Kraken;s Call and an odd unidentified object at the edge of the augur array, assuming this mission to be of some urgency (Partly because I informed the players out of character that while they had only been in warp for 2 months, 1 years had passed in real time) the captain ordered best speed tot he nearest planet to investigate why they hadn't called the Imperium in the previous two hundred or so years. Upon close inspection they learned three things about the planet known hereafter as “Snowball”
The planet was quite literally covered in ice and snow
Vox signals, though unclear, were coming from the planet and seemed to be in low Gothic
The large warp storm occupying the planets super-continent and slowly growing
As the vox signals were evidently moving away from the storms the crew assumed that the planet had NOT fallen under the sway of chaos and so paged the navigator to make a rare presence on the bridge to give her professional opinion on the warp storm, using her knowledge of the warp and third eye she deduced that the storm was not of natural (Using the term lightly) origins but showed no obvious taint or sorcery. Deciding that the vox communications likely belonged to someone Imperial and that re-establishing contact with them would technically be completing the mission for the administratum and allow the looting of the rest of the system to begin apace the crew piled into a Valkyrie and set off to met the locals
The locals, as it happened were techno barbaric nomads living on enormous ancient crawlers whose basic systems they barely understood by this point and seemed to be evenly split on seeing the explorers as saviours come to rescue them, or representatives of the disaster that led to their current predicament. It was decided (Unanimously) that Lelu would be the face of contact for the locals as the gun wielding sociopath, three eyes mutant, power armour wearing scarecrow or either of the explorator's might not have had the desired “Were here to save you” effect.
Tracked by autocannon's as the bird landed the group disembarked onto an open landing bay surrounded by a crowd of people whose desire to rend them limb from limb and steal their lander was curtailed only by the ordnance present on the Valkyrie. The elected leader of that particular convoy greeted them as if they were straight from his dreams of salvation, only to almost collapse when Lelu informed him they were not in fact here to save anyone and were unaware from the get go that anyone required saving to begin with. After deciding between the group that the best course of action was to move the people to another planet, one without warp storms, then fix the warp storm issue, the situation darkened somewhat. You see the locals expected salvation or evacuation, the explorers proposed leaving to scout the other worlds then returning to pick them up.
This did not
Go down
Well
After barely and I mean barely avoiding a riot a new deal was struck, half the party would remain on the crawler, attend a feast meet the locals and such, while half the crew would scout the storm then they would meet up, let cooler heads prevail and decide on the best course of action. Lelu stayed as the groups official face, Sebastian stayed to keep the official face intact and Zlad stayed to... well Zlad stayed as well.
So our intrepid Arch Militant picks his away team, which consisted of saying he needed the cogboy and the wyrdboy and throwing them in a Valkyrie (To be fair at this point the Cogboy was the only one other than Sebastian who could actually fly the lander) and they set force to storm chase a warp storm. After numerous near misses from environmental hazards sometimes via fate point usage the advance party spot the source of the problem, or at least a clue.
The back end of an imperial ship sticking out of the planet like a spire to the heavens around about the centre of this continent sized storm. After a few scrapes on piloting tests when trying to park a lander sideways on a ship facing straight down in a cargo bay not designed for landers resulted in only the weapons being sheared off the wing the group disembarked... kind of. Before the roleplay began I had sat down with both our power armour players and discussed exactly what their suits could do, one of these abilities involved built in magnetic boots. This became extremely useful as the cargo hold of imperial ships do not function safely at a 90 degree angle. This did not however help the Arch militant who unlike the navigator wasn't a hiver either and had no acrobatic skills this meant with some rope the navigator could get around with relative ease, the explorator stuck tot he wall like spider man and the Arch militant dangled like a fish on a line...
It wasn't all to be chocolates and roses for the navigator however as his dark sight mutation allowed him to see perfectly the inquisitorial signs plastered all over the cargo hold. They were in the hold of a crashed black ship...
The navigator, notably disturbed by this turn of events relayed in information to the darkness blinded, height fearing arch militant dangling on a rope over an indeterminably long drop into oblivion, he was similarly not best pleased. The explorator on the other hand was ecstatic, not only a ship but an imperial ship he could commune with. So ecstatic he tried communing with the cargo bays door controls before being reminded it was just a door switch, it understood open and close.
Meanwhile
After numerous feasts and algae soup over the 3 weeks now since the advance party had left Zlad had made great leaps into understanding the crawlers hydroponic farming system, Lelu had gleaned all the information she could and Sebastian had decided that the scouting mission had taken two damned long and ordered Zlad to rig a vox signal powerful enough to reach the ship to order in another lander to find out what the hell had happened. It turns out around 200 year ago a great black iron beast had fallen out of the sky and crashed into the planet, the dust kicked up from the crash had blotted the sun out long enough to cause the mother of all ice ages. This was one problem, however in addition to that shortly after the crash a second great storm had gathered around the crash site, this rapidly growing unnatural storm destroyed both the bodies of cities and the minds of men as it grew forcing the population to go mobile on the first crawlers, 200 years later the warp storm was threatening to overrun the entire planet so needed sorting.
Back on the black ship the advance party began their explorations encountering no resistance but strong surveillance from mutated nosferatu like being clothed in rage, after what seemed like days chasing shadows the advance party decided to head to the bridge so the Cogboy could commune with the machine spirits as to what befell the ship. Arriving at the bridge, deserted of course Putus attempted communion with the ships great spirits... it as a short chat
The bridge could give him no answers save a reason for its addled condition, all the ships cogitators were non functioning save for 6, those 6 were currently located near the warp drive and were devoted solely to its operation, with the understanding that the warp storm and functioning warp drive may be connected the party set off for the drive section.
Meanwhile
Having being rescued by crewman on a spare lander and taking 6 members of the crawler with them as a show of good faith Sebastian decided it was time to apply some lateral thinking to the problem, you see Gellar field's create a bubble of real space when we travel through the warp (He explained to the explorator) so if we force the Gellar field on and drop the ship over the warp incursion, the Gellar field should plug the gap. Any normal member of the cult mechanicus might have argued the insanity of descending in a 2 mile long ship through atmosphere with the Gellar field up to try and cork a warp storm. Zlad was is not a normal member of the cult mechanicus. This plan ended unsuccessfully when the Gellar field began to overload from the strain. With nothing else for it the Rogue trader decided if you wanted something done right, throw more bodies at the problem, Grabbed Zlad and Lelu and took off in another lander. Having gone straight down from orbit the reinforcing party landed fairly promptly, early enough to stop the advance party from going further without them while Sebastian chewed them out over the vox for being gone for a month, something they were not aware of.
But something wicked this way came
Similarly to Putus, Sebastian had little trouble traversing the wall/floor of the cargo hold, although had to contend with one extra problem, the ship board mutant cannibals were hungry, a group of them began rapidly climbing the walls to get to the group while a second group simply observed them curiously. Sebastian stormed down to meet the climbing freaks while Zlad and Lelu provided fire support via bolter and hellgun, first round of combat the 2 watching cannibals failed their psychic test, Sebastian killed a crawler, Lelu killed a second, the second combat turn proceeded much the same with one exception, one of the psykers cast dominate on Zlad successfully, it promptly dropped its hellgun, which clattered almost a 100 feet straight down and drew its power axe, on the third turn Lelu put down the last crawler and Sebastian fired on the psykers, Zlad on the other hand hit Lelu with a power axe, dropping her to 4 HP in one blow. Luckily Sebastian rolled highest initiative the next round and crossed off the psyker controlling Zlad. That distraction out of the way the reinforcements, now down one gun and almost one player met up with the advance party who were largely doing fine. They met up at the room before the warp drive generator.
I should point out retrospectively that the player controlling Putus had stated on more than one occasion suggested that shutting down the ships plasma reactor as a better plan than trying to attack the warp drive which had boss room written all over it, unfortunately he had to call it a night just before the “Boss room” so the party went with “Lets kill the boss” this will come back to bite them in very short order.
Sebastian led the march into the drive room, around the room were linked 6 cogitators directly to the main warp drive, their sole purpose regulating the ships titanic power output and feeding it safetly to the drive, in the centre of the room stood the “Boss” now as a good GM I had a monologue prepared for this and everything, knowing this Sebastian promptly walked up and non-chlantly cut its head off
I grinned evily, deciding not to roll defence as the psyker attempted puppet master on Sebastian, which failed despite the negative representing the fact the psyker at this point was just a force of will powered by an entire warp storm an therefore was physically invulnerable. This did not stop them trying. Due to circumstance I allowed the psyker to use powers once per turn as reaction and once as full action, when his action cam around I decided to focus an easy if less destructive target, I dominated the navigator and promptly had him unleash his adept level lidless stare on his own party. The attack pushed Zlad almost into critical damage, knocked out Putus and knocked the navigator out from fatigue. Sebastian figuring that if cutting the psykers head off wasn't going to work decided to attack the next logical target and opened fire on the cogitators. The psyker's head stopped laughing and warned them to stop, the party was understandably disinclined and all opened fire on the cogitators halting the flow of power to the warp drives and sealing the storm...
Bad news
That titanic level of energy being used to fuel the warp drive for so long was now going nowhere and was in fact accumulating in the main plasma reactor.... over-accumulating. Discretion being the better part of valour the arch militant and rogue trader slung the incapable of walking crew members of their shoulders and pegged it for the cargo hold, after lamenting how Putus had damaged a lander coming in Sebastian inflicted the same damage to his lander leaving in a hurry unfortunately the first lander had to be left behind as no conscious could fly it.
In a cinematic escape worthy of a Michael Bay film the lander ascended the atmosphere just in time to see birth of a second albeit short lived sun on planet “Snowball” the 2 mile deep detonation of a ship sized plasma bomb caused massive tectonic shifts and the sudden release of all that superheated gas on the local environment of snow and ice resulted in a 60 foot tall tsunami spreading across the whole planet and breaking the super-continent up into a series or archipelago's. Planet snowball is hereafter referred to as Tropicanna.
A few things to wrap up before the session closed, the issue of the 6 survivors from Tropicanna who had just witnessed the exterminatus of their world being formost amongst them. After much debate as to how to silence these refugee's the Rogue Trader once again took charge.
He spaced them
“I ain't going to prison” He said sagely in attempt to excuse the act. The great Tsunami dies down relatively quickly and left a series of half submerged cities that predated the crashed imperial ship but that would come after a month of rest and relaxation on what was now prime real estate and one hell of a holiday destination.
You know the sad thing? The really sad thing?
While drinking margaritas on the new beach one of the explorator's lamented a lack of readily available ice.
Too soon guys...
Too soon.

Angel of Death reacted to SirRunOn in Home of Passage Watch
Seeing as Erioch is needs a lot of extra bits to get off the ground, I took a quick step by and recolored the standard Ramilies to signify Metis.
I used the color scheme from the front of Battlefleet Koronus as a reference. There seem to be some suspicious explosions in the background in the tradition of "action for no apparent reason but look BOOM!" movies, so I can't really tell if the windows are orange and red, but the color looks great.
Or at least I think it does. I had to switch up the majority of the color scheme and dim the lights to make the Prof's brain hurt less.
It has nothing to do with Abidel sector(other than you can get there from here), but it's good practice for Watch Fortress Artarret in Abidel sector which is the same model in jet black marble, and the Four Points of Port Moseby. I'm not sure which color scheme I'll use for that.

Angel of Death reacted to Grothgar in Revenge and Retribution - A Rogue Trader Campaign
And, the session that was just posted is one of the main reasons why (apart from a few specific examples) I tend to have all secrets and dodgy things out in the open... because I trust my players not to use that meta-knowledge to their own gain.
Constantine's player was at the table when the rest of the group decided to sell the Khornate Infused Drugs to Zayth. However, because his character had been grievously injured during the fight with the Iron Men/Daemons, the rest of the group (knowing he would object) decided to do it when he was recovering... thus the Chaos Infection on Zayth was born.
Now, during some of the adventures since, some of the players/characters have slipped about what happened... and whilst Constantine has not yet realised exactly what they slipped about, he did get suspicious enough to start investigating. Then, the High Inquisitor mentioned that people who come into contact with anything like that should be purged... which the Rogue Trader and the Seneschal had forgotten to do... so they rather ham-fistedly rounded up everyone and did away with them... which Constantine had set his acolytes to watching for.
All of which culminated in the scene above where, all the players knew what was happening, but were still acting as their characters... with Constantine single mindedly after the truth and Thelonious, Rolaine and Yorke trying desperately to stop him finding out... about half of that session I could barely make out because of the sheer gales of laughter that were being picked up by the Microphone.
I love my players and my group

Angel of Death reacted to venkelos in Getting an Exitus Rifle - how Hard Can it be?
Some points:
In game, the character should have next to no idea that the weapon, or even the Assassins, themselves, exist. If he has seen one, someone should probably come along and kill him. I figure, if the Grey Knights must somehow, for no good reason, be kept "a secret", if only from the people they actually protect (every enemy faction, knows they exist), then the greatest Assassins we send after our own worst transgressors are probably secrets, too, beyond "the Imperium has some way, in the shadows, to kill anyone who really gets their goat." Short of finding a Vindicare, and killing him (First rule of 40k RPG: you are not Darkstrider), or locating a corpse of one, and getting his gun (I hope you are not the Assassin's Creed Black Flag protagonist, either; you'd be too drunk to realize how good the gun is), these aren't simply "available", anymore than polymorphine, C'Tan Phase Swords, Animus Speculi, or the myriad other toys many of these Operatives use. If you were somehow so connected as to know of these temples, and be able to communicate with one, without being an Inquisitor, or a High Lord of Terra, I think they'd just say "nope". Every Exitus Rifle, and its affiliated pistol, is gene-locked to the Assassin, in question (DH1: Ascension, p.139). While I know there often comes a point where a pimped PC finds no test they are pimped for to be truly daunting, anymore, their guns, and other gear, are tailored to their stats, and need a Hard (-30) Tech-Use and Medicae test (p.147; I swear it was tougher than that, but I'll still mention it) to set up for another user, or, in the case of the guns, to even fire. Lastly, while I grant that the Exitus Rifle is a marvel of technology, a sniper rifle effectively set apart from others, the thing most people like is the special ammo, and while even the "regular" rounds these weapons fire are rare, specific to the gun, the "special ammo" is usually less than a dozen, between each type, on the one assassin. Mr. Vindicare probably only had a few of each on him, when you hobo-murdered him for his toys, so you'll run out, and since these aren't the types of things you can make regular Acquisition rolls for, you'd have no built-in way to resupply. Even a Callidus only brings along a small, finite amount of polymorphine, so that if she is aced, there is very little to study, and she has to return to her handlers for more; her job requires her to plan carefully for ehen she will actually change shape. Vinny is no better off. If you just want it for a shelf ornament, like 80% of the weapons you collected in Skyrim, maybe, but if you actually want to use it, you'll quickly see how a shooty Ork feels, after wasting all the bullets. I love the idea in Rogue Trader that you can finally get most of the cool things you ever wanted, but there is a list of things you still can't have, and this should be on it. No way you got it is mundane, and no way you got it shouldn't have the risk of an Inquisitor, or unknown Operative of an Assassinorum Temple seeing it, as you show off, and bringing someone down on your head (I imagine these could be "easy missions", to more just keep an Assassin sharp, if you will, since you won't have all the security of a Planetary Goernor, or a paranoid Cultist, assumedly). Also, something must be said for the Vindicare's own skill. Vinny, and his rifle, are badass, no question, but he's sort of like Bullseye; I'm rather confident he can kill you with almost anything, and the gun is just the best, most pimped option.
Certainly, you can tell me to buzz off, and it is your game to run, but I'd try to put my foot down, and say "there ain't no way". The secrets of the Temples, primarily their tools of the trade, can never be handled by others, lest their effectiveness diminish, once their secrets are revealed. Also, meta-gaming, saying I know, so my character does, is wrong, so knowing about the existence of this penultimate sniper rifle seems suspect, even before wanting one.
Okay, I'm done telling you how to do things. If you DO go for it, at least it is, among the Assassin toys, the most mundane accessory; mostly just a BQ sniper rifle, so other than slapping sense, and drawing eyes, it shouldn't unduly effect the game, itself. Best of luck, and have a good one.

Angel of Death reacted to Robin Graves in Assassinorum Infiltration/Exfiltration?
About the eversor: this is (in my own words) what happens at some point in the novel:
So between mission, they keep them eversors on cryostasis in area 51 type complex in the (relative) middle of knowhere.
During the pre-mission prep something goes wrong and one wakes up out of cryo without any mission parameters.
Never mind that this guy would realise he's inside an imperial facility- they are probably used against renegades and traitors for that not to matter. This happens:
A normal assassin would go: "Huh, I woke up in clade's facilty and these guys seem to be loyal, Also I've got no clue what my mission or my target is. Something must have gone wrong."
What the eversor does: " I am awake! KILLING TIME!"
The killteam even states that unless they stop this guy, by nightfall every nearby settlement (on Terra btw!) will be a slaughterhouse!
The eversor even takes on the callidus- knowing she's a callidus. While she's telling him whats going on and to stand down.
And his response boils down to; "Yeah, I have an inkling, but programmed to ignore you. And I really wanna kill you!"

Angel of Death reacted to Covered in Weasels in very rare items at character creation?
I'd let the player have the armor, accounting for the drawbacks as others have suggested. However, don't be so harsh on the player that it feels like punishment, as that's a good way to ruin the player's experience. If you make sure the drawbacks of decreased Subtlety and short power cell life come into play when appropriate, you can create some memorable moments in your games.
Also, power armor does not turn a player into an invincible Space Marine. There are plenty of ways for enemies to counter a power-armored soldier if they are expecting them (and if the player uses the armor in public, their enemies WILL hear about it). Manstopper rounds, hellguns, web grenades or even simple thrown nets can all reduce the effectiveness of armor, and haywire grenades can potentially shut down the armor entirely. A poor-quality suit is unlikely to have any protection against photon flash grenades. Cunning use of the environment, such as luring the players over a bridge that can't support the weight of a walking tank, can also turn the armor into a hindrance. Try not to overuse these tools, but use them to keep your players on their toes and remind them that they are still mortals.

Dark Heresy "The Inquisitor's Handbook" has introduced Armageddon Pattern Autogun - very similar to BAR. Basic, Range 100, RoF S/2/6, Dmg 1d10+4I, Pen 0, Clip 15, Rld Full, Wt 8.5, Reliable. Penetration may be worth increasing, but all other stats is ok, IMHO.

Angel of Death reacted to TheOGBluejay in New Vehicles (please post your own)
Equitus Gun Truck
Originally a field modification of the Equitus truck, the Gun Truck, or Guardian Angel as it is called amongst rear line troops, is a derivative of the Equitus truck recently accepted by the Mechanicus. By no means a truly unique vehicle, the Gun Truck is actually a modification kit for the numberless Equitus truck. The modification kit is usually applied to the Equitus when convoys are at risk of being ambushed or attacked while in transit. It is a simple kit, consisting of steel plates that are welded to the sides, front, and rear of the vehicle, giving it decent protection against small arms fire. It also contains 2 swivel mounts for heavy stubbers. With the kit applied, the vehicle is capable of absorbing rifle caliber bullets and las-bolts and returning fire with a pair of machine guns, giving protection to rear line convoys against ambushes and raids. The kit doesn't come without downsides, however. The weight of the armor, machine guns, and ammunition mean that the suspension is overloaded by a fair margin, and the vehicle struggles to maintain a high speed. If the crew of the vehicle attempts to take it off-road or push the engine too hard, they will very likely find that the vehicle soon beats itself to death under its own weight. Despite this, it has become a very common sight in warzones around the Imperium, providing security to convoys and bases behind the lines, as well as serving in a number of security roles around the Imperium.
Type: Wheeled Vehicle Tactical Speed: 15m
Speed: 65 km/hr Maneuverability: -5
Structural Integrity: 20 Size: Massive
Armor: 20 Front, 18 Side, 14 Rear
Vehicle Traits: Open-topped, Rugged, Wheeled Vehicle, Overloaded*
Crew: 1 Driver, 1 Commander/Navigator, 2 Gunners
Carrying Capacity: 4 Passengers in rear
Weapons: 1 Frontally Mounted Heavy Stubber (100m, -/-/8, 1d10+4 I, Pen 3, Mag 75, Rld 2 Full, Ogryn-Proof, Can fire to the front and sides of the vehicle) 1 Rear Mounted Heavy Stubber (100m, -/-/8, 1d10+4 I, Pen 3, Mag 75, Rld 2 Full, Ogryn-Proof, can fire to the rear and sides of the vehicle) Most vehicles carry approximately 5,000 rounds of ammunition for these weapons.
Overloaded: Due to the extra stress that this vehicle's suspension is under, any attempt to navigate it across rough or broken terrain at more than half of its tactical speed requires a Difficult (-10) Operate Surface Test. If the driver fails this test, he must flip a coin. On a result of tails, the vehicle gains the Motive Systems Crippled condition.

Angel of Death reacted to Gregorius21778 in [Provided] Sights & scenes inside of a hive
#[This hive section] is overseen by enforcers who walk on gantries running along and across the streets, high above your heads. These grim looking men and women are armed with sniper rifles and some of them watch the crowd with magnoculars.
#The already crowded street starts to fill with more and more people. It seems like a work shift has ended in one of the major manufactoria and after a couple of minutes you are just a drop in an ocean of sweaty bodies, pushed along by the stream. Staying on your course is not easy, as nobody seems to stop but everyone just flows with the crowd.
#In the middle of the [street or place] stands a preacher on top of some hardplast boxes, giving a sermon about fire and damnation and all kind of sins. He denounces all passersby as unworthy sinners that should redeem while most of the people just try to ignore him, which in turn only infuriates him more.
#Down from above comes a fine drizzle accompanied by a hissing sound. As you look up, you see workers hanging from the ceiling in front of a gigantic aquila relief carved into the hive wall. While they clean they clean the imperial ornament withpressure washers , water and filth sprays down on you and the other pedestrians.
#From the far opposite wall of the hive section comes a deep humming as the huge ventilation systems awake and start to set the air into motion. A stale breeze washes over your faces, but moments later it becomes fresh as recycled air is piped into the section and the used up is sucked out above. The artificial gale chases paper waste over the rockcrete floor.
#The big corridor you follow is astoundingly clean and a chemical smell dominates the air, reminiscent of a hospital. After a while you notice huge yellow warning signs which are stamped across the floor. [“Warning! Entering sector with infection level V!”]. Ahead, you find a basin, at least two yards in length, that coveres the whole width of the passage and is filled with a clear liquid. Servitor drones are positioned at both ends of it. Once you reach the one on your side, it turns to address you, monotonously delivering its message: “Footwear disinfection basin - Treat slowly - No splashing – Disinfection is mandatory”.
# A horrible stink fills your nostrils while you move along. As the crowd suddenly divides in front of you, you see the source of the stink: a small sea of raw sewage covers the middle of the [street or plaza]. If it spilled down from far above or if it welled up from below, you cannot say.
#You take the metal stairways down to the next level and the free standing construct squeaks and shudders under your every step. Half way, an old-fashioned iron gate with an electrical ward blocks the passage [PC need to hold a cognomen with an access code against it, by-pass it or will have to climb around the gate. The later is an ordinary(+10) Athletics/Agility test with the chance of dropping to your death]. At the end of the stairway, a servitor welcomes you to the section with an static-ridden voice and begins to list the important communal offices and facilities to you, and where to find them.
# In the dim lit area ahead, you note a red light that darts about like a mad firefly. It turns out to be a servo-skull that zick-zacks across the heads of the citizens. Every now and then, it abruptly dives down into the crowd. After a while it ascends back up, only to soar to another position to repeat the procedure. While you continue on your way, you come close to the erratic pass of the skull drone. As it goes down nearby, you catch some harsh sounding orders issued to a pedestrian by the skulls vox module. [Perception / Awareness test: “Stop! Identity control. Hold your cognomen in front of you and wait for further orders!”]
#Suddenly something bumps into you and makes you stumble half a step back. It is a young boy, about 10 years standard, who wears the badge of one of the local courier guilds. He holds an electro-sealed tube container in one hand and is about to utter a "sorrysire". [This might be a thief in disguise or just an honest courier boy. The PC might harass him or not. It will not have any consequences one way or the other].
# The flow of the crowd comes to a stop. Irritated and annoyed muttering forms into a background noise as the questions “what is going on?” spreads. After a while the answer ripples back: the street has been blocked at both ends, a genetic screening takes place. The people around you complain but stay where they are. From time to time, everybody moves a few steps forward, only to stop again. (...) After what seems like an eternity [or after an endless series of pushes and shoves by the PC as they force their way forward through the crowd] you reach an impromptu barricade made of segments of iron bars welded into free standing grates. At a small opening, you are held back by brutes that hide their faces beneath crude loin cloth masks: they demand to take a blood sample from you with a small device similar to an auspex.
#Shouts of pain, anger and frustration come from the crowd around you. The second you are still wondering, somebody shouts “RATS!” While the warning is repeated by others, you suddenly see one of the vermin hushing by next to you. The beast is the size of your underarm!
#Traders have placed market stalls left and right and hawkers strut through the streets that loudly advertise their goods. Interested buyers form islands in the stream of people, and those islands quickly grow in mass as other pedestrians are blocked by them and have to press and wiggle themselves back into the stream once more.
# Ahead, the sound of cheering and raunchy laughter mixes with electric music and erratic applause. After a few moments you are close enough to see the source: on the elevated base of a five meter high statue of a war hero a trio of scantly clad women dances sultry to chimes coming from a box-shaped technological music device. The monument they are dancing on is surrounded by a half-circle of noisy men, some of whom throw coins up to the dancers. Further away, a group of angry looking women rants about this open display of shamelessness.

Angel of Death reacted to Errant Knight in Tenebro Maze a.k.a. Murder Ship
This is exactly what I mean by invoking ship size. Maybe they have all been trained about that deck plate on 44G, or was the plate on 44E, or was it 444G, or was it 54G, or BOOM! These ships are simply so large that it would be impossible to remember where everything is. You can make the argument that each crew section only traverses limited deck space, but keep that in mind next time you throw in a hullghast hunt scenario. "Make sure to hire a Deck 44G guide to help the investigator through the traps sections."
And mind you, I think all of these suggestions are workable, it's just that I don't think it's mappable in the lifetime of the average GM.
