Nicco said: Also, if I'm not mistaken, this game and Android: Netrunner are sold out already…. Wow. I guess they didn't bring as much as they thought they needed. What time did the doors open?

Nalydd said: The whole 'YT-1300 / Falcon' debate could be moot. Show a picture of a YT-1300 freighter to pretty much anybody who has seen Star Wars and they'd identify it as the Falcon. It's only the borderline hardcore or more knowledgeable of Star Wars fans that would say it's a YT-1300. As for the Slave 1/ Firespray debacle, didn't Jango destroy all of the other Firespray prototypes therefore rendering Slave 1 the ONLY Firespray in existence? Considering that the Falcon and Slave 1 are, let's say, 'character' ships I speculate that the models for this game could be so called but cards for the generic bases for these craft would be included. Kuat revived the line around the Battle of Yavin. (Why do I know all this stuff?!?)

I would think different cards would be fine. If they did it like WoW, it would be a bigger card, with multiple weapon firing points. They did that with the bombers when they came out and it seemed to work fine. Han's pilot card would just be all-around better than the stock freighter's pilot card. You could represent additional shielding, hull and weaponry there. The tricky part might be the maneuver dial (but then again, maybe not). The Falcon's speed is rated the same as an X-Wing, at 80 MGLT. One might assume that a regular freighter is less than that though. Perhaps multiple dials would be included for the different ships.

Hamlet23 said: If done in the same scale, the B-wing will dwarf the other fighters. A B-Wing is 16.9 meters long, only about 4 meters longer than an X-Wing. The model should only be 62.5 mm. That's along the long end, cockpit to cannons. It's big, but may still may fit in the blisters.

Corellian CR90 Corvettes are about 150m, and the Wild Kaarde is about 125m. I guess those would be possible. At this game's scale how big would the miniatures be? approximately 22" and 18" And I wouldn't want to think about what something that big would cost!

Assault Gunboats! Lambdas are only 20 meters long, not even twice the length of an X-Wing. Easy to do at this scale (except for the massive wings).

Nalydd said: There are team play rules included where more than one player can join sides against a common foe, though there are only the two sides: Rebels vs Empire. So far… In reality, two people on each side or more should be fine. WoW plays fine with multiple people on each side controlling a fighter or two.

Right, that was supposed to be feet. Anyone know what the MondayKnight mats are made out of?

vadersson said: So now that we have seen the maneuver dials of the X-wing and TIE Fighter, want to bet that A-wings and TIE Interceptors will come with a 6 straight template and maybe some bank or turn 4 templates? I can't imagine an A-wing or TIE interceptor being less that speed 6. I can't wait for more ships. Thanks, Duncan Maybe, but the packaging would have to be pretty big. That's at least 6 ship lenghts, and the expansion packaging doesn't seem that big. Maybe there will be a rule to just use two 3's.

I picked up a piece of 3x3 black felt from the local AC Moore (craft store). I think it was less than $6. I'm going to head out this weekend to the fabric store to see if I can find anything "spacey".

This would be pretty neat. WoW has bombing and strafing rules. We'd need stats for the proton bombs the Tie bombers and Y-Wings use. I think the only time we see bombing is in the asteroid scene in Empire.

A Blockade Runner is only about 55cm long…

It was hinted in the demo video from last gencon that both the falcon and slave 1 would be done. Who knows what's happened with that over the last year though.

boardgamegeek is trying to get a group buy together too for the UK.

I could imagine different versions of some of the already named pilots (like Luke and Wedge) as promo cards or prize support. Not too important to the game, but some new flavor. As for prequel ships, other than ethersprites and v-wings against droid fighters, what else is there really that anyone would care about? Sure, there are lots of obscure separatist ships, but there are lots of better obscure EU ships that would be better done first. Either way, I'd expect I'd have to buy it, but I really don't like mixing the two generations (It just doesn't look right!)

Agrivar said: JMSwallow said: I'm hoping the A-Wing will be part of the second wave of minis… Me too. Although if they keep the model scale consistint and they continue basing the length of the minis on the size of the models used in the movies, instead of referring to the official sizes given in the Expanded Universe canon, the A-wing mini will be very small (roughly half the length of an X-Wing). Anyway, I hope that the A-Wing Expansion will include an "Arvel Crynyd" ace rebel pilot card with the special ability: "Ram". What size are you expecting? All the numbers I've been able to find seem to indicate the A-Wing is 9.6 meters long compared to an X-Wing's 12.5. In game scale that's about 35cm, or about 3/4 of an X-Wing. Do you think they were much smaller than that in the movies?
-
Got it. Interesting how they can fire but not maneuver. Still, with two torpedoes and the ion cannon (not to mention that hull and shield strength) they seem pretty formidable.
-
Well, I might need more Y-Wings now. As we thought, the Ion Cannon fires 360 degrees, as what looks like range 1-2. Reading the card for the token, would a target ship get to fire in the turn it was hit? For example, Salm's Y-Wing (initiative 8) fires first at a Tie and hits with the Ion Cannon. What happens to the Tie on that initial turn? The card says he doesn't get to plot his next move, but he does get to fire on his following turn. Does he get to fire on the turn he got fried? Also, on the Ion Cannon card, what does "cancel all dice results" mean? AND the number tokens go up to at least 17 with this one.

I pointed out on BGG that Target has them listed online as well. Not yet in stock anywhere (as I thought) http://www.target.com/p/star-wars-x-wing/-/A-14044860

It shouldn't have been released anywhere yet. It should premier at Gencon in a couple weeks, and then hopefully be at retailers a couple weeks later. I don't know how things work on your side of the pond though.

Any ideas on a release schedule for future expansions?
tommusco replied to ImmortalJedi's topic in X-Wing
I think they had to release at least some of the expansions now. People would have got bored with just a starter, and possibly lost interest before the first wave of expansions hit. This way they have more ships to use, and the only "Real expansions" are the Y-Wing and Tie Advanced, since the other two are really just new pilots and equipment. On the other hand, how many of us are buying multiple starters just to get more ships? -
The 181st is Baron Fel's elite Interceptor squadron. They have distinctive red stripes on thier solar panels. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/181st_Imperial_Fighter_Wing
-
Wings of War had a mechanic for collisions. Essentially each aircraft took a damage card if they were the same alltitude, if i remember right. The difference there is that the cards dictated how much damage you took. In X-Wing each card is one damage.
-
Could be, but more nimble fighters in future releases (like the A-Wing) might have barrel roll.
