Aahzmandius_Karrde said: Re-read the last sentence again. A 3-speed move followed by a 2-speed move is equivalent to a 6-speed. I'm not talking about stacking the templates, I'm saying taking actual move. To the knowledge problem you've already made the bulk of your move, and by limiting it to green moves you're just finishing it off. You also still have to contend with pilot skill. If I'm low then while movements are locked I haven't seen many of them. If I'm high… well then maybe it is another benefit of having a high skill being able to partially react to what's happened around me. Here's the other part of it, this is an action. If I'm not in an open area, I'm not going to pull this off successfully. The dial maneuver will occur and if I collide with anyone I lose my action and can't perform the second maneuver. This sounds like a pretty good idea. I like the way it seems to flow.

In the X-Wing booster you'll get one of each of the droids. I don't think they are repeated in the core box (but I may be mistaken). I don't know if that's important to you. If you buy 2 cores you'll also get two sets of dice and templates, making playing easier between two people.

Pash Cracken in the A-Wing. He let his squadron before joining the Rogues.

Hrathen said: I bought some (okay lots) of X-wing at Gencon and I even played in the tournament. From that perspective I really wonder what upgrades will the yt-1300 have. I can imagine a turret or two slot and a concusion missile slot, maybe even a expert pilot slot. It might even have an upgrade slot we haven't seen yet. If it has a turret slot, does that mean it can be equiped with a ion-cannon, or do you think it will be a differnt kind of turret slot like how proton torpedoes use a different kind of slot from concussion missiles. What good would haveing two turret slots give you. As the rules stand right now, it you use a secondary weapon you can't use your primary weapon. I don't know remember if it expressly forbids the use of two secondary weapons. I guess it sort of get back to the general ships vs specific ships for how this game works. I can see two possibilites for the Falcon. One you take Han as the Pilot and then take the upgrades that you think it should have to be the falcon. I imagine a falcon has maxed out its upgrades. Don't take ion-cannons, not because the rules don't let you, but becasue the Falcon does't have them The other possiblity is that if you take Han as the pilot then you get all sorts of cool special rules, representing the fact that you have the falcon, but it wouldn't have any (or at least only few) upgrade slots. It wouldn't have a slot to represent Chewy, becasue you could put some one else inthat slot who was never the co-pilot of the falcon. The Han pilot card would just have a special rule to represent Chewy. I imagine when the medium ships come out there will special firing rules for them (especially if turrets are involved). When they introduced large bombers to WoW they had multiple firing arcs and could use ALL of them at once.

A Jar Jar Piloted ship would be a nice gag option. 1) the maneuver would be randomly generated and 2) everyone would kill him first, including his own side. -DavicusPrime That's actually not a bad idea. I mean, Jar Jar aside, just having a neutral fighter that moves randomly on the table that both teams are trying to destroy could be really interesting. Maybe the first to destroy the target (or the most targets) wins. That could make for a decent solo scenario. For instance, take a Tie Advanced that has been "stolen by rebels", and a force of regular Tie-ln's to hunt it down and destroy it. Each turn for the move plotting, just randomly spin the dial and place it face down so you can't see it. When you reveal, move it as the dial says. Firing phase the Advanced needs to fire at the closest legal target (if possible). Probably needs some tweaking…

If they are true to the announced scale of 1/270, an X-Wing should be 46mm (almost 2in) long, and the Falcon 100mm (4in) long.

It's been a month today that it's been on that boat. Hopefully it gets there soon!

DavicusPrime said: tiepilot1138 said: Exactly! Why are you waiting? Who's your favorite online shop, and how can you tell they're almost sold out? Waiting on a little B-Day money… is the why. Miniature Market is becoming my new fave and they list inventory levels on their site. In the case of preorders, it's the quantities that their suppliers have promised them. With the prices they're selling for and the buzz this game has been getting since Gencon, things are moving fast. Last I checked, Y-Wings are sold out and everything else is rapidly approaching zero. I might have to wait for their next replenishment if I'm not able to get my order in this week. -DavicusPrime Wow, I never noticed the stock numbers in there. I did my order through them a few weeks ago (and another through my LGS). In response to AGASHAMIRV, you can probably order direct from FFG if your LGS doesn't get it. I'd hope they keep some for themselves to sell!

A little slow on the uptake: why moving later is better

R2D2 said: tiepilot1138 said: It really shouldn't matter who goes first when it comes to collisions. Both units are going to be in the same place at the end of the turn, regardless of who got there first. Even if you move first into a clear area, you're still in a collision when your opponent crashes into you. Except that you lose your action by crashing into them, whereas they have already used their action… not to mention that you impede their full movement, potentially disrupting their lines… That's true. I had to look at the rules again. I had thought that ships in contact couldn't fire, rendering most actions useless. I was mistaken, and they just can't shoot AT EACH OTHER. -

Parakitor said: DavicusPrime said: All I know is that at my preferred online shop is on the verge of selling out all their preorder quantities and I haven't placed my order yet. -DavicusPrime I get $10 "fun money" at the end of each month, so the longer I wait to place my order the more I'll be able to purchase. I actually had $100 set aside for this game back in the early summer, but the long wait wore on me, and I caved when I saw the cool new LEGO sets. What are you waiting for? Exactly! Why are you waiting? Who's your favorite online shop, and how can you tell they're almost sold out?

R2D2 said: Im not sure I understand what an "open beta" is? FFG want us to pay to beta test a game for them? That's exactly right. If I remember correctly (at least with PC games) closed betas only allow so many people in to playtest. Open allow everyone. I won't pay for a beta product unless part of that payment is the completed product. This seems like you're going to have to buy another book when the beta is over.

Wow, those SSB ships are ugly. It really makes me appreciate the work and detail that FFG put into these. I didn't realize how much of a size difference there was. Oddly, the old Micro Machines ships should be almost spot on. My X-Wing measured 45mm, and FF's should be 46.2mm, and the Tie Fighter is 22mm compared to FF's one at 23.3mm if my math is right. I don't have my FF ships yet, so I can't be sure.

Aahzmandius_Karrde said: IG-58 said: Wild Karrde? How many of you even know what that IS much less would be willing to cough up $50 for one? Ya, I can't think of a single person who would be interested in a ship named the Wild Karrde. Not me certainly. </sarcasm> Of course not you! ha! "large" things may not be ships at all, as Stunami mentioned. They could be space stations (NOT the Death Star), gun platforms, turrets (hopefully), who knows? I think we've pretty much established there isn't much that's recognizable to the masses between the size of the Falcon and the next closest, which is probably the Gallofree Transport, which is too big to be sold as a regular expansion ship (at least as currently packaged).

Those numbers sound better until you realize what you got in the box was a crapshoot.

herozeromes said: I know this is going out on a limb, but one thing that no one has discussed is the possibility of the Snow/Land/Sand Speeders. Since they had a Death Star Trench gauntlet at GenCon, why not a battle of Hoth game with speeders and walkers? This would certainly be possible if they aren't only locked into space-based combat. It's just a thought. Kind of out there, but a thought. I've been wondering about this too, but with all the rampant speculation going on, I didn't want to fan the flames further. Atmospheric combat would be neat, but really the only aircraft that we can't use in space is the snowspeeder (off the top of my head). And then you need AT-ATs, AT-ST's, tanks, turrets, shield generators… An AT-AT is about 20 meters long, so a little shorter than 2 X-Wings (but much taller).
-
I haven't seen the actual pieces yet, but it's probably not an issue playing at home. I do recall that the rebel ships in SSB had round bases, which would make positioning the move templates tricky (no real defined front edge). You could always re-base them, I suppose. I plan on using the SSB a-wings, interceptors, falcon and firespray as proxies until they come out.

There are several games out there where you can do this, but the inertia rules get cumbersome. I think the general idea behind X-Wing speed of play.

I'd love to see a Corvette, and am kinda meh on the transport (who wants a ship with no guns?). I still think they are both too big to actually sell, except to a few fanboys. The Transport would measure over 13", and the Corvette almost 22"! They would easily sell for over $100, which puts them out of range of most players (and storage would be a pain as well).
-
I did notice the bases were bigger. I expect it's to accommodate more weapons or stats. As if having to wait to get my hands on the base set isn't bad enough, now I have to wait longer for those beauties!

vogless said: Those look cool, but isn't the MF out of scale? It seems pretty small compared to the fighters and Slave 1. I don't think it's too out of scale. It should be less than twice as long as the X-Wing. Look at these pics that were posted earlier (especially the one where the guy is holding it). http://www.facebook.com/TheD6Generation
