I was finally able to get a copy in my hand yesterday. The pieces are great, except the scale is off. FFG has said repeatedly how true to scale they were trying to be, yet the Tie is too big. From all the measurements we've seen over the last few months (and from what I've been able to find in my rather extensive library), a Tieln should be 6.3 meters long, and an X-Wing is 12.5 meters. In 1/270th scale, that comes to 2.3 cm for the Tie and 4.6 for the X-Wing. The X-Wing is almost spot on at 4.5, but the Tie is a full centimeter longer at 3.3cm.
My online order hasn't arrived yet, so i can't take a good look at the Y-Wing or Tie/Advanced yet.
I guess it's possible that they are to scale with the original production models used by LFL (and not the canon measurements), but I haven't been able to find a picture with the models side by side.

I'm in Southwest suburbs of Chicago, but I am a 30 minute drive or 1 hour train ride from Chicago!
I'm in Naperville.
More interesting is that I went to a brand new game store in my area last night to check it out after hearing good things about it. When asked about X-Wing the owner's face lit up saying that one of the store's regulars (term used loosely when the store has been open for 2 months) brought in the game after GenCon and ran a few games there. He said that the store is planning on running regular events. Even more importantly, they are looking for people to be the judges/leaders for each game. Possibility there…
Even more interesting, he said the distributor told him that FFG is planning on starting organized play support of some kind. I really hope that this is true.
FFG has announced that there will be OP, but nothing more specific than that yet.

Im not holding my breath for this game. I preordered it in early MAY! the anticipation is killing me. I dont really understand why FFG cant give an intended date, with a little disclaimer saying that actual date may slightly vary based on location/distance from FFG. they could at least give the date when they will begin shipping. Instead they seem to constantly refer back to the validity of their upcoming page, which (as mentioned before) lists the core as being released 3 months ago… Due to this I have no expectations that the game will even be released this month and will not roll over into Q4.
And the upcoming page STILL has it listed as "on the boat"…
even though target's website already has it listed as in stock and available in thier indianapolis stores…
Yup, one of the Targets near my office here supposedly has it. I'll be making a lunchtime trip! (then I'll just have to wait for my pre-orders from my LGS and miniaturemarket to arrive…)

I'll definitely keep you in the loop. Two or three of us are actually thinking about coming by the Game Parlor to run some demos on Saturday afternoon. Are you available? Maybe we can get a game or two in. By the way, are they still charging $2 to sit at a table to play?
We're actually thinking about running our tournaments at Comics and Gaming in Gainesville. We might be stopping by there to run some demos Saturday morning before we head to Chantilly. Let me know if you can make it to either place on Saturday.
Roy
I meant to add that they do still charge $2 a day to use the tables, but you get a free play voucher for every $20 you spend in the store. Let me know what time you all will be by and I'll try to make it.
OK. I think I still have some vouchers from when they had their store on Woodbridge. I'll let you know when we decide on a time.
Roy
I have PLENTY if you guys need them. I think there are a good 15 in my wallet right now…

Just saw on Amazon from the supplier they have (Funagain games) fulfilling orders, that items will be released Sept 19. Not sure if that means they can ship on the 19th or what.
I'm dying to get mine from my LGS where I preordered two months ago!
Odd, when I just looked at amazon the supplier was Cool Stuff (with no release date noted).

So, I finally heard from them. This is what they said about the dice (well, a generic response about the correctness of the upcoming page). I am going to cancel the preorder I have in at miniaturemarket because they hold all items until the whole order is in.
Mark,
Both items status are displayed correctly on the upcoming page and we expect to release both items over the next couple of quarters.

not neccesarily… it will be "on the boat" until they have begun shipping (as the next step is "shipping to suppliers"). So it could be that on the day they begin shipping they change this, but until that date the information shown is correct.
Although….of course they ARENT displayed correctly and Kalar is, sadly, wrong. The core still show a Q2 release!
I understand. My point is even if it's "off the boat" today, it will probably not get to distributers and then to the LGS in two days.

I may have gone overboard….
2 x core set
2x x-wing
1x Tie fighter
2x y- wing
2x Tie/advanced

Nah, it sounds on par with what most other folks are doing!

I may be able to make it Saturday, depending on the time. It will also depend on whether it really shows up this week, unless you guys have some and I can mooch off you!
I've talked to the management over at Game Parlor and will probably be running their Organized Play there for X-Wing if and when the program starts, assuming there's enough interest.

Some of my friends are interested but I don't see them making the investment.
I'm in the same boat here. Lots of interest from friends, but they'll wait and leech off me.

I think (though I could be wrong) that they do one run, and it sells until it's gone. If it sells well, they do a reprint.

Manassas, VA here. And I have friends in Woodbridge and Stafford who are interested in playing also.
@tiepilot1138 - Darth_Malus and I are part of a group (mostly in the Prince William county area) who will be running some tournaments starting in the next month or so. No sure exactly where yet though, but I'll keep you informed. We should get together sometime and maybe get a few games in. Do you know anyone else who might be interested in playing? We're hoping to build a nice sized group of players.
Roy
I've stirred a little interest so far, but I think most of my friends are waiting for me to buy first to see if they like it. I usually play at Game Parlor in Chantilly when I can get out, or Victory Comics in Falls Church. Please keep me in mind!

I have two starters coming, and one of each booster (except for the y-wing, getting two of those). I may pick up a second Tie booster, to round out the squad.

That is fantastic news! Where did you get your info?

I am so wanting this game. I was starting to re-read my Empire comics from Dark Horse and saw some X-wing vs TIE battles and longed for this game. Good think I am not rereading Rogue Squadron books…

Thanks,
Duncan
(I think FFG should send a free set of the starter to Mike Stackpole and Aaron Allston.)
I've been listening to the Rogue audiobooks on the work commute in anticipation…

There's just something about grown men looking for glittery fabric that makes me laugh. It's nice to see that we'll do anything for our games.
Even worse: I was the only guy in the store when I was there, standing with a group of women at the fabric cutting desk. I got a ton of odd looks.
Worse yet: When the cutting lady asked me what I was using this for I lied and told her it was for a craft project for my son. The reason this is a lie is that my son is 1 year old, but she didn't need to know that.
haha…. I got those looks too. Walmart has some awesome fabric for this. I'll try to get a pic and post it up tonight.
On the same topic, I had to do this several times in both fabric stores, hardware stores and radio shack when I was constructing my Stormtrooper armor. There's just something silly about needing assistance from the nice ladies in those stores, and then having to tell them you're making a costume!

I'm concerned about the fragility of the models bouncing around in a case like that. Can anyone who did this chime in? Has anyone broken a model yet?

With all the OT love here I'm surprised at the complete lack of desire for the Cloud Car.
The Cloud Car is just atmospheric. I'm sure if they do expand to ground/atmospheric scenarios it would be included, right next to the snowspeeder.

I seem to remember Mara Jade flying a Z-95 on Myrkr when she was first introduced in Heir to the Empire (at least, I think that was the first reference where she shows up). She's always been my first pick for a Z-95 pilot. Bossk would be good, too.
Hey! That's exactly what I was thinking! But I didn't post because I thought it wouldn't work to have one "Rebel" (Mara) and one "Imperial" (Bossk) pilot in a single pack. But now that I think about it, Mara was still "Imperial" during the Galactic Civil War, so that could work. It'd be cool to see Bossk's Nashtah Pup represented as a miniature.
But there's still a problem: the Imperials have always outnumbered Rebels in craft variety whenever we have these discussions, so I had been hoping the Z-95 Headhunter would go to the Rebels. It could be analogous to the TIE Fighter in that it's a cheap ship you can swarm with. But the Imps don't really need a ship like that; the Rebels could use it, though.
There's nothing saying they can't release ships with pilots included for multiple factions. That might work better with the lesser known ships.

Interesting. That site also says it's still at the factory.

I'm beginning to find that I need to get a third Core set just to be able to get an all TIE 100pt Imp list. It's turned out to be impossible to fill out 100pts with the 5 TIE's I already have on order. The highest point Pilots for TIEs only run about 20pts with a skill upgrade and there are only 2 named pilots that are that high in value. So filling out 100pts with only 5 TIEs isn't possible. I will have to use the Tie Advanced in all my lists until I acquire more TIEs.
-DavicusPrime
I was considering this too, but I'm not sure if I'm going to want to run an all tie swarm. I'll have 5 ties and and advanced, which will hopefully tide me over for now. (although I'm afraid if I wait I won't be able to find it when I really do want it).
