I don't see any problem with some time passing between the announcement of a new product and the actual release, even more so if the announcement actually tells when to expect the product (Q3 for Edison). Mind you, if FFG hadn't announced Edison, we'd still be discussing if there would be another Tannhäuser release at all. As you probably remember, Edison was announced only days after a topic titled "Should we be expecting anything more?" was started here and several TH fans posted their opinion that there would be no more TH product. So if someone in charge actually reads this: Go on! Please announce immediately all the TH product you are going to release this year! Wait - make that this year and the next!

Also concerning Natalya: Are you forced to include a character adjacent to your target in the attack or is it optional?
-
I tried to put it as clear as possible, but maybe a native speaker could come up with something better. Anyway, the questions are added.
-
Okay, here are the questions concerning attacks and line of sight. They are just reworded versions of the questions I asked FFG some time ago. Please note that ranged combat and melee combat are clearly separated.
Ranged attacks with pistols or automatic weapons may only target characters sharing a path with the attacker, so you may not target an adjacent character that doesn't share your path with a ranged combat attack. Right or wrong?
Melee attacks, on the other hand, may target only adjacent characters but may target characters adjacent to the attacker even if the target doesn't share a path with the attacker. Right or wrong?

That's just the point. The rules are somewhat contradicting and it could be ruled either way. And when I asked FFG, the answer didn't really solve the problem.

in a couple weeks, I'll post a draft of the FAQ, to get community input on the answers.Great! I'm really looking forward to that! By the way, cool questions, MeisterH! I never even thought about some of them, yet they sound absolutely logical.

Okay, here are some more:
Concerning Locked doors: Some Locked door circles are placed in the middle of a path. if the door is locked and a Smoke grenade or Fire grenade is thrown on the path, is the whole path affected or does the door "stop" the smoke or fire spread?
Also concerning Locked doors: Are out-of-path attacks or abilities (for example Doom or Patmos amulet) stopped by Locked doors?
Concerning Commando Alpha's "Only unit for the job": When I use this ability, Commando Alpha has just suffered enough wounds to be eliminated. May I take the immediate activation before Alpha suffers any wounds or does he suffer wounds to his last row before taking his activation?
By the way: Where are the questions? We have been shouting for a new FAQ for months now, and everyone seemed to have hundreds of questions - okay, everyone seemed to have several different questions at least!

Great! I was really waiting for this! So here we go:
Concerning Zor’ka: If Zor’ka is on overwatch and an enemy character walks adjacent to a Voivode, does that trigger Zor’ka’s overwatch as the circles adjacent to a Voivode are considered to be adjacent to Zor’ka?
Concerning Mizu's Happo: Is it allowed to use it like a normal Smoke grenade, that is: throw it as an action in Mizu's activation? Is Mizu forced to use Happo if she is targeted by an attack, or may she choose not to use Happo?
Concerning Oksana: If she is given the Voivode equipment token Strobo lamp ( -2 to Combat Value for everyone), every Voivode she commands gets this ability. Is this cumulative, for example if 2 Voivodes share a path, everyone gets -4 to his Combat Value?
Concerning Irina’s Bonus pack: The Liturgy of discord from Irina’s Bonus pack states that the enemy takes a wound for every success in a Mental Duel that Irina has initiated against that enemy. Does this really mean “every success” or is it actually “every uncanceled success”?
Concerning a question that was answered some time ago:
“Q: If Hoss Harbinger uses Prescience to dodge an attack, can he move to a circle with a movement penalty? A: No, he must be able to legally move into the adjacent circle. Since this is not a movement, Hoss cannot pay the extra movement point to enter that circle.”
I’m a bit confused because Prescience doesn’t say anything about Movement points but states that Hoss may move one circle. So why is the answer about Movement points? By the way, it’s just the same with Mizu’s Shadowflash ability. -
First, I'd also like to point out that I never meant to insult or accuse anyone but just to state what in my opinion looked like the core of the problem. So if anyone felt insulted by my comment, I apologize.
Second, I absolutely support the idea of an "official" fan-made FAQ that included questions answered by Miah or discussed here in the community. Especially after the release of the Shogunate characters and Natalya, there were a lot of questions asked but never officially answered. I remember writing to FFG 3 times or so.
An important point to consider is that no one would have to worry about a group of fans or even a single fan changing the game rules as the only intent is to answer questions and find rulings based on the actual rules and corresponding to the actual rules.

I think you are right as usual, lack of communication is a severe problem when answering rules questions. But in my opinion, this runs even deeper. Ruling that a weapon targets a character when the special rules for that weapon clearly state that it targets a circle (as opposed to targeting a character) actually negates the special rules. I'd say that this even shows a lack of knowledge or understanding for the rules.
-
I wonder why they even invented weapons that target circles instead of characters only to rule later that those weapons also target characters. But it was one of several answers some time ago that just didn't make much sense. There was quite a discussion in the topic "Rules questions and answers from FFG".
-
On the other hand, the Revised Core Set Rules also state: "After artillery weapons fire, the unit must reload before it can fire that weapon again. This costs one Skill action. (see “Special Weapons” on page 24)." That's the last sentence on page 14, Artillery weapons.
So probably all Artillery weapons with unlimited ammo have to reload, but no one ever noticed because there was only one of them. FFG forgot about it as well and thus forgot to put the "Reload" ability on Nikita.

I'd say you are right, but it was ruled otherwise. The same question was asked to FFG and officially answered (They were actually answering questions at that time!) regarding Ramirez' weapon that also targets a circle.
Q: Ramirez' Weapon (Mark 19 Mod A1). When it attacks, does it count as "targeting" models he rolls against (for the purpose of effects requiring a Mental Duel before targeting, such as the Masque of Samhain)? On the same token, can you make a Counter attack with this weapon? Can it be used while affected by Patmos Amulet?
A: If the chosen circle contains a character, then it counts as targeting that character. You can launch a counterattack with the Mark 19 Mod A1 and it can be used while affected by the Patmos Amulet. As you see, "if the chosen circle contains a character, then it counts as targeting that character." I have to admit I don't think this makes any sense as it contradicts the ability of the weapon (or weapons as it also affects Kaali).

Another advantage of the Zombies is that you have two cool heroes that are able to join them in the Axis Hero pack, while you'll have to buy Operation Seelöwe to get Markus who may join the Apes. The Axis Hero pack will also offer Stefan who can join the Sturmpioniere.
-
I have played the Victory Bridge campaign twice using only the units from the RCS. When the Axis were attacking and the Allies defending (as it's somehow supposed to be in the campaign), the Axis won 5 of the 6 scenarios. Surprisingly, the Allied won the campaign when they were attacking. Still, I often thought the allied units from the RCS lack range and firepower in ranged combat. It took me some time (and also some more units) to actually pull off some allied wins. Grim Reapers for the Allies and Apes or Zombies for the Axis really could even things out.

If you only have the Core game and thus are playing against the Union you should use your out-of-path abilities and do whatever it takes to keep your opponent off your path. Heizinger with his Command pack makes it very difficult for Union characters to enter his path while he can easily use his Patmos amulet on them while staying out-of-path. Zerman with his Command pack should stay him rolling 5 dice while attacking out-of-path. A Shocktruppen on overwatch on the same path guns down everyone who actually manages to enter that said path. If you have hurt important Union characters, rush in with Eva and the Stosstruppen to finish those opponents off in melee. But don't use them too early, or they will be gunned down too fast, especially Eva.
I'd say this tactic should work out fine against the standard Union team, just beware of grenades and smoke grenades that are thrown your way. If you actually get Hoss and replace Eva with him, you'll have yet another character with a powerful out-of-path attack and a Union player will have a very hard time winning against you.
-
As you are allowed to play with two Reich or Union troopers that are identical for all game purposes (that is, their stats, character cards and tokens are the same), I'd say you may do the same with Matriarchy or Shogunate troopers. You just have to buy two of the trooper packs and mark one of the troopers and the matching character card so you and your opponent are able to tell them apart during the game. At least, that's what i would do if I was willing to spend the cash for an extra trooper pack that was exactly the same that I already own. But I have thought about getting a second Shogunate trooper pack several times now.
-
If you actually get the Hoss pack, there's a nice combo for Hoss and Eva. Hoss has the Crown of Cerunnos (or so) that grants him the ability to give some of his attack roll results to another character on his path. So if he does an out-of-path attack (as he always does) and rolls a Natural 10, he can give the Natural 10 to Eva who can rush into melee on her activation and attack someone with a guaranted Natural 10. Add Heizinger with his Combat pack so everyone rolls one additional die, thus increasing the chance of Natural 10s. Furthermore, add a Shocktruppen with Command pack (or Combat pack) to do overwatch attacks against every enemy that enters your path to attack Hoss, Eva or Heizinger. To cope with Eva's weakness, use her Stamina pack that includes a First Aid Kit.

The only character that is actually announced to be released is Edison for the Union. I think that if FFG plans to release a Reich character to balance him out, they should just announce it so that we will know what's about to come. Although I'd gladly take von Karloff, any other cool Reich hero will do for me as long as they actually announce something.
-
While the whip is powerful and Eva is a cool character, she is also quite fragile and easily gunned down by the Union characters - sometimes even before she can enter close combat. Although I like her, I have only seldom used her since I aquired Hoss Harbinger. I normally use the Reich heroes for out-of-path attacks and the great Stosstruppen for melee.
-
Now that the book is actually released (at least in the USA): Are there any comments from those who have already bought and read it? At least I'd be interested.
-
As the troopers in Tannhäuser are rather standard soldiers and nothing fancy, I am fine with the two "normal" Shogunate troopers. I'm still hoping for a demon or spirit character (say hero) though. On another note, I'd also like to see Hoss displayed prominently in at least one of the novels, although I think his history, powers and agenda could easily fill an entire book.

If the Core set includes the Revised Rules, that should do for quite some time, Pvthudson01! I'd advise you to play with the Core set factions and characters for some time before introducing the third faction and Novgorod to get used to the rules and mechanics (unless you regulary play 3 player games of course).

I can only advice everybody to look at the mummy, the Red Skull and the Grimorians. They are wonderful!

It's quite difficult to give a short answer in this case because the answer depends on the exact wording of every ability or piece of equipment. There are those tokens that use the phrases "As an action …", "Once per turn …" or even "Once per game …" to clearly indicate when and how often the token may be used. Weapons can only be used if you make an attack, counterattack or overwatch attack, so they are only used in certain conditions. Others are automatically used if the character carrying them initiates an attack (Barry's Flash battery) or if the character carrying them is targeted by certain attacks (Delta's vest). Tokens that give the bearer (or others) special abilities without mentioning any conditions or special circumstances are always in effect.
As you see, it's not easy to give a proper answer without going into specific examples, and interaction between tokens belonging to different characters can be tricky (especially if you have several expansions). If you have specific tokens or combinations that bother you the most, feel free to post those examples so we can discuss them.
