a) Yes, deadly work if you lose the challenge, too. The conditions are: attacking and more deadly characters.
Oh sweet old gods.
My group has been playing this consistently wrong from day one (we all some how misread/interpreted as needing to win the challenge).
Now my stark deck loathes the core set Jamie even more! -
Well.
That makes ned even better than i thought he was!
Pity i cant get my hands on him.
Good job he is being reprinted with 3 copies! -
Wouldn't the fact that the effect needs a noble character to be targeted (which a card in the discard/dead pile can't be, it just a character card?) stop his cancel?
-
I would say not, with my incredibly hazy understanding of the intricate rules, but cards that are discarded/dead/in your deck are out of play and thus cant be interacted with unless something specifies that you can. That said my track record with some rules (most) is less than perfect.

Sorry to res an old thread but just looking for a quick conformation that crown of winter does not effect gold like the white raven does. Seeing as there dose not appear to be actual rules for what summer and winter do (Aside trigger various effects) i take it that the raven itself reduces income.

Im slightly surprised that FFG havent reprinted the delux expansions a little more with the success of the tv show presumably bringing in more players. I appreciate that redundant stock is a bad thing and that they have no way to predict new player influx but considering that EVERY house expansion seems to be out of print i would have thought/hoped that they would be accelerating a reprint. Of course as a new player im mostly moaning as they are not immediately available to me.
-
Idiot question from me, but when duplicating a search with rickon i assume that all effects are copied, so summoning season or building season would also allow my opponent to search twice as well.
-
Is there any news on when such reprints are likley, i too am in the UK and am trying to track down another lords of winter as well as a copy of kings of the sea for our group. With Lions of the rock coming out november-ish i was hoping that the other house expansions may be seeing a reprint.

Freezing rain or frozen solid his lost oasis, no more stealth generating location. (freezing rain is my personal choice as with influence you can move it around to your advantage in other phases).
Did not realise you could stealth characters who could not participate in the challenge (due to icons) though! That makes the oasis even better than we thought.

Cheers people, excellent and quick answers as always

I did try a search but must have not been looking at the right filters as i got a lot of lists that used it in plot decks but nothing on actual clarification (that said i was at work and being quick/sneaky) -
Could some one give me a detailed breakdown of who this plot resolves?
Our groups current understanding (much debated) is that the player to the left has to pick a lord and lady they control and then kill one for the other to gain 2 power (easy enough).
They cant select lords/ladies they dont control, but must select and kill a lord/lady if they only control 1 (ie, i have robb stark out as my only lord, and no lady so robb bites the proverbial dust)
Have we got this right or way way off mark. -
Indeed it does, and the nitpicking is welcome as im the sort that wants to have the rules down and sorted in his head to avoid situations like this at the table.

Right, got it!
I think.
It boils down to KRC making the influence a part of the cost and thus makes it all one action to play KRC rather then a series of individual player actions.
Its much easier for me to do this with the cards in front of me! -

Phew, thank the Seven for that!

The old gods more like it!
Right, so for me to fix this in my head, because narrow sea would have to be triggered twice (once for influence then for the discard) its incompatible with king robbs companions fromthe perspective of being used for both effects because the influence has to be triggered when KRC is played and the cost reduction need to come before which is impossible as it would be discarded and thus unable to produce influence?.
However what if i kneel a godswood, a crossroad and hand of the king, in that order for the companions? Looking at the flow chart, and combined with my rather obvious iffy understanding of the timing, i get
Player action > kneel godswood > response/saves > effect (next character -2 cost) > player action kneel crossroads > response/save > effect reduce KRC by 1 > player action kneel hand of king > response/save > effect reduce KRC by 2 > player action play KRC for 0 > response/save.
Or does the kneel influence of KRC get paid as a single player action (kneel any amount of influence from KRC text)?Apparently ninja'ed, assuming my run through in this post is correct i believe i have it down now, thanks for clearing it up

Ooooooo, that could mean we have been making a fundamental mistake with how we have played the game since day 1 (although its not been that long).
Would that apply to Fiefdoms and 2 gold reducing locations like godswoods? We read the cards as giving a cumulative effect (kneel a Godswood and a Northern Fiefdom to reduce by 3 ) as they state the next 'house' character played so we reasoned that until a character is played the effect is still active. Or is the narrow sea a different example as it is being used to create influence and then reduce cost?
-
What about narrow sea? Can you kneel for influence, and then, with narrow seas own text, discard it from play to reduce cost by a further 2? As you dont have to kneel narrow sea (?) for its effect, as opposed to say, ice which clearly states that it must be knelt.

Wow, that seems pretty bad. My assumption would be that the attached character is at least returned to the dead pile and that anything else was wishful thinking on my part.
My brother will not be happy when he finds this out
-
As the topic is on Jaqen i have an interesting question (to me at least).
Let us say that my Robb stark meets an unfortunate end and Jaqen steals him from the dead pile as a dupe.
Reading Jaqen it says
"choose 1 non-Army character in an opponent's dead pile that was killed this phase, and attach it to Jaqen H'ghar as a duplicate"
Now i cant imagine that it works like this BUT with the character no longer in my dead pile (as its sitting as a dupe) if i have my own dupe in hand there appear to be no restrictions on me playing it out of my hand as a new active character. Likewise should the dupe attached to Jaqen be removed via claim as a dupe it should return to its owners discard pile (as any dupe is when triggered for save, afaik) allowing me to play out another copy of said character if i draw one.
I imagine there is some glaring fact im overlooking but its just a curiosity on the mechanics of his ability. -
Brilliant, thanks for the response

A quick question on timing and resolution that cropped up last night in our group.
After a discussion that ended without agreement we resolved to play the game out in the usual agreed fashion of odds/evens that our group uses (i lost, curse those dice)
The discussion boiled down to when a challenge ends and the response triggers.
Cersei:
Response: After you win an Intrigue challenge in which Cersei Lannister participated, choose and kneel up to X non-Army characters. X is the number of cards you control in Shadows.
Vs
Frozen Moat:
Challenges: Kneel Frozen Moat to choose 1 attacking character. Until the end of the challenge, treat that character as if its printed text box were blank.
I argued that the challenge was not concluded until the end of framework window 4 (after renown is awarded and the cycle starts again for any other challenges the player may have) but Cersei's response would trigger at step 1of the same framework window and was thus covered by frozen moat.
My opponent argued pretty much the reverse, that frozen moat stopped at framework 4-1 and Cersei triggered after this.
Any wizardly guru able to help us out for future session?

Agree that Jon is the most obvious answer, and perhaps one of the very few people with anything that resembles plot armour (his parents and the long associated who they are is all a bit moot if he is dead without coming back).
Having re-read his final chapter i really like the way the prophecy is seemingly completed by the tears/shield etc."From my reading, and the descriptions of the people stabbing him and whom did the stabbing I think it may be the work of the other Skinchanger. The roar that went up when he read Ramsay's letter didn't seem to implicitly imply disapproval. I may need to read it again but it seemed to me that the level of confusion in that scene made it seem like everyone was kind of out of their wits over what was going on. It's possible it was the other Skinchanger jumping around in bodies and stabbing Jon. We will see."
Got to disagree as my gut reaction was the same group of malcontent nights watch who opposed Jon's every move on the grounds that it went against what they thought the NW stood for."One of the prevailing and oft repeated lessons of the story is... Don't leave your Direwolf."
On this i totally agree.
Im hoping he is restored to his actual body eventually, it wouldn't feel right to me if he suddenly wasn't Jon Snow any more. Although i dont think that he is actually dead yet (although he may well be) so he may well be saved my conventional techniques. -
Idiot questions from me but it will save much arguing somewhere down the line for my group.
I've been reading the rules and FAQ to try and establish exactly what a triggered effect is.
The FAQ lists this as 'Any ability on a card in play that begins with "Phase:" or "Response:" is a triggered ability.' So cards like bear island and robb stark (core) are obviously triggered but what about cards like guilty (core) lethal counter attack (core) and valar morghulis (core)?
While the 2 event cards have the Phase association they are 'not in play' but played out of hand and valar is resolved on reveal. Our assumption is that the event cards would not be valid but valar would be. Are we correct in this?
It stems from Joffery Baratheon from (TftRK) and our groups difficulty in ending his annoying life. -
Excellent, the few quibbles we have had have pretty much fallen like dominoes, my thanks for all the swift responses.

OK,while i think that it would work the same way i just want to confirm something.
Winterfell Reserves
Ned COULD cancel this if the top card is a noble even though it does not pick a specific target (ie, the player has no choice about the top of his discard pile).
