  1. Biggest one that got me at the start is that they are often not universal. For example, Nymeria core set will save attached character from being killed, but discard and return to hand can still occur, make sure that the save effect is relevant to the type of save (always got me at the start).
  2. Bomb said: TheLarz said: I absolutely agree with that and would have answered it the same exact way as you had he quoted the exact card text. That's what I get for not reading the card and only reading what he wrote. Apologies, my quoting was inaccurate but your advice was much appreciated, its always good to to get a reminder of the x to do y drummed into my head as i inevitably will make a mess of it at some point. Cheers to both of you for the clarification.
  3. Bit of a debate about being able to use frozen outpost (stand defending character to get +2 str until the end of the challenge, +4 if it has a war crest) as the card says choose AND stand, if a card does not kneel to defend can it still be chosen as a target? If it can will the effect resolve?
  4. Quick query, as venomous blade is an attachment the query of weather it can be placed in shadows during the set up phase came about, the rules state that to put an attachment in set up it must have an eligible target and have the set up keyword. However shadow cards are, to my understanding, essentially blank cards with no text or ability until they are brought out of shadows at which point VB must follow standard restrictions as it attaches, and in setup you may play a card into shadows for 2 gold. I had a look at the faq and shadows rules and couldn't find anything decisive one way or another, i know that in an unsporting way my opponent isnt going to know when i put VB in shadows, at set up or otherwise, but the sporting and rules curious player in me would like some clarification.
  5. Taken straight from the faq (3.6) Triggered Effects Any effect that a player chooses to execute is considered a "triggered effect." Thus any effect that begins with a "Phase:" or "Response:" is a triggered effect. Also note that playing an event card is thus considered a triggered effect. A "triggered ability" is a triggered effect printed on a card already in play
  6. ktom said: Underworld40k said: As an ANY PHASE you can ambush instead of paying gold from what i can make out. Correct. When you are the active player in Marshaling, you may either pay the 2 gold to play Flame-Kissed as you would any other attachment, or you may kneel the 2 influence to put Flame-Kissed into play with Ambush. Any other time (ie, when you are NOT the active player in Marshaling), you may only use the 2-influence/put into play/Ambush option. As i thought, always nice get it confirmed though
  7. kauai1964 said: Correct - you may only play the card using Ambush if your Marshaling phase is already complete. My question was actually to this,. As an ANY PHASE you can ambush instead of paying gold from what i can make out.
  8. Just to check, ambush can be played in your own marshalling, correct? As far as i know it is an ANY PHASE: action and is fine to to play instead of paying with gold as any other house would do.
  9. After he is out of shadows the wolf is indeed just a str 2 military with deadly. You cant use his ability again unless you have a way to have him put back in shadows and then you can pay the gold to trigger his ability. Under normal circumstances he cant be used in another challenge as he comes into play knelt. If you can stand him ( 'at night they howl' springs to mind) and you havent used your military challenge yet (or you can use 2 or more) then he is good to go. Or if you have a card effect that would cause knelt characters to be declared as attackers/defenders then he could participate. *disclaimer, im almost certain to be wrong about something.
  10. OOOo, that changes things quite a bit then. While my play group knows that agot is about not being able to do things unless specifically stated it was the lack of 'eligible card' that threw us (like crown of Meereen). In that case if there is no eligible character to move it to then they presumably cant take control of the attachment either? It seems a much less useful card now, are there any reasons it is considered so powerful as to be banned? Just curious.
  11. We thought as much, no worries on the banned and restricted lists as my group plays casually and arent bothered. Although that said i build my decks to be tournament legal but thats just my little OCD coming through.
  12. Nope, you can challenge the same person multiple times in multiplayer games, and it is often an excellent way to rack up unopposed power.
  13. Yes. Losing a challenge does not stop you from making other challenges (assuming standard requirements are met).
  14. Any chance i can get a break down of how this works? Unlike other attachment control cards it dosent state that the character the attachment is moved to has to be an eligable one. Does the text of CbtR trump the text of the attachment? Example, i have cat stark (Atot version) out with the crown of winter attached, CbtR is played taking control of the crown and then it is attached to cersei lannister and my opponent opts to take control of it. Does the crown then get discared as the stark unique only is no longer a met condition (like how chains are lost when not on a maester)? Is the stark unique only a play condition for getting out of hand? We agreed that it would be discarded as it dosent meet the conditions on the card itself (which was important as my opponent had a miserable time with a lannister intrigue heavy deck with cat and crown out on turn one )
  15. If you end up with an unopposed challenge where your attacking str is 0 then there is no winner as you must have at least 1 str to win. Unless you have an ability that allows you to launch a second challenge of the same type (plot card storm of swords from lords of winter for example) then you have used your one challenge of that type for that round. Unless there is a card effect stopping you, or you have already used a military or power challenge, you are free to launch any of those as defined by the rule book.
  16. I would say no as a gut reaction, BUT looking at the faq i would hesitantly say yes as the response triggers after the passive from winterfell if im reading it right.
  17. The tin link can remove the raven, the only card that i can find that has been faq'ed is the carrion bird to 'printed trait only'. Intimidate does NOT stop characters being declared as a defender or put into play, it just counts all characters with lower strength as strength 0 for the purposes of the challenge. Awaits ktom slap down for being wrong
  18. Hidden chambers only works for the coming out of shadows via the standard a mechanic rather than a card ability (like an ANY PHASE) if i remember correctly.

  20. ktom said: radiskull said: 1) came up just a bit ago on these forums - the consensus was that ALL players need to complete the first part for ANYONE to be able to do the second part. Actually, I remember it as a ruling from Damon that pretty much reversed the way it had been played to that point. Any chance of a link or pointer KTOM, while i treat your word as gospel (admittedly i shouldnt but, you know, its you ) my play group require some type of link or print out to stop it going in circles.
  21. No worries Ktom, once again getting myself to run in circles chasing my own confusion. Like a dog and tail, but less cute. The amazing Underworld ladies and gentlemen! I'll get my coat.
  22. I assume this applies when it comes out of shadows as well? Although we have been interpreting it that the hatchling can attach as it states "if you control X" which we assumed overwrote the standard duplicate restrictions.
  23. Excellent, so if i have this right an any phase (or set phase) ability that would bring a card out of shadows is NOT effected by shadows cost reduction or the gold penalty while the 1 card a the start of any phase (standard shadows) IS effected by reduction/penalty but any response that is triggered by a card coming out of shadows is done by either (the black cells or tower of the hand for example)?
  24. So with Meera reed even if you bring her out of shadows via the standard mechanic you wont get her any phase trigger with the gold reduction from hidden chambers as that is not a standard shadow mechanic?
