Think your bang on the money Khudzlin, as long as starks target is the active player he could play characters out, even during the challenge.
-
Pretty sure it would still trigger, replacement effects, afaik still can be used for triggers, stay of execution dosent actually stop the kill effec as its not a save or cancel. Instead it replaces the moribund state with a new destination but i believe that you could trigger appropriate when killed etc responses accordingly.
Or at lest i seem to remember that from somewhere, i could be conjuring it from my the dark addled corners of my mind so i would wait for ktom or someone to riddle this with poor game understanding before providing the correct answer.

No, they would only need a +1 gold location to get 1 gold.
Unless im massively mistaken or missing your question entirely.
Look at it like this, your income is plot + modifier. Blockade reduces plot to zero, it dosent subtract, as silly as that may sound. Think of it in terms of multiplication. In this example you gave you would end up with; plot of 5 x0 x0 = 0 + modifiers = whatever. -
Cough. *draw cap" cough.
Draw cap of 3 means that you can draw up to 3 cards outside of the draw phase framework. No more. So even if you could use val to cycle through 10 cards all that will happen is that you would discard them.
As it is i dont believe the game rules allow you to even try that. Checking the rules the word cannot is used, and as the faq makes clear, cannot is absoulte, you cant even attempt it.
The only way i can think of off the top of my head is in a nights watch/wildlings deck with dolerous edd out. -
Your right, the one response per trigger would prohibit it. Iron cliffs WAS triggered in response to the save window created, it got cancelled and thats all she wrote.
-
As far as i understand it those arent lasting effects like a 'when revealed' plot effect or 'until the end of x phase y happens' like LOW Robb so if they get blanked the effect ends there and then.
-
As the topic.
Looking at the faq dosent provide much help, my gut reaction is that as a lasting effect was created when the event came into play as a character blanking the text after the fact will change nothing, it will keep the keywords, text and icons that were specified when it was played. Or is the text a constant requirement for the event to be in play as a character (like blanking a maesters traits make their attached chains fall off).
Any help appreciated. -
I believe that a dupe could be discarded to save the character from being returned to shadows, although i will confess that that reasoning is based on dupes being able to protect against return to deck/hand or discarded/killed.
Edit. Indeed it can, according to the faq :
The text from page 19 of the Rulebook should
read: “If one of your unique cards is about to
leave play, as a triggered ‘Response:’ effect,
you may discard an attached duplicate to
save the unique card from leaving play. This
includes, but is not limited to, an effect that
kills, discards, returns the card to hand, deck,
shadows, or removes the card from the game.” -
Looking at the timing flow sheets i believe that while search may resolve first the next framework event (the next plot to resolve in this case) resolves straight after, this is repeated until all framework events are resolved then passives then responses. So while searching and detaining a stark character will give meera a response opening by the time it rolls around she is moribund: dead pile and cant be returned.
Of course that explanation only works if im right, which, i hasten to add is unlikely.
Of course you could bounce her to hand with search and detain and all is well (again,i think). -
KL Ned could cancel the iron throne assuming his conditions are met (ie, its chooses a noble character), he cant cancel dupe saves as far as my understanding goes because the dupe does not choose a target, it just gives a save, not sure how he would interact with an attachment save like nymeria. (i get a little fuzzy on some of the 'choose' issues, although i would assume he couldnt as it just saves attached character, it dosent actively choose them)
-
When a player takes control of a character they gain control of the duplicates and power on said character (so you can win a game by getting control of a character with enough power on it). Unless specifically stated the person who played the attachment retains control of it.
For example, i have Arya stark from the core set with a duplicate and nymeria attached. Also due to her triggered effect i have gained 3 power on Arya by giving her renown.
My opponent then takes control of Arya and gains 3 power and the ability to use the duplicate if they wish. I retain control of nymeria so if i think i might gain control of arya back I can choose to use nymeria to save Arya if my opponent decides to use her to satisfy military claim. Arya will still receive the +1 str and stealth bonus from nymeria being attached regardless of who controls her as it is a passive bonus.
You will probably have to give an example of the condition attachment you mean but i'll use flame kissed as an example.Trait(s): Condition
Text: . Ambush. If attached character has no other attachments, attached character gets -2 STR and is killed if its STR is 0.
The upsetting thing is that this is what the game refers to as a terminal state, you cant even ATTEMPT to save from a terminal state unless the save removes the card from the terminal state as well, usually by combining the save with a strength bonus.
But to explain it in the way i understood it when it first got explained to me, lets say you discarded a dupe to save from the effect, because the character isnt being killed or discarded the attachment stays in play (as it does not say discard attachment to do x), this means that its effect is still happening, so your character will die again and again and again until you have no saves available.
As an aside, condition is just a trait and has no bearing on the attachment itself outside of other card interactions.
Hope that helps

No, she dosen't have to participate, nothing in her text says she must be involved in those challenges.

While i agree that things like the restricted list aren't needed for casual play, and probably should be discouraged in that setting, its entirely possible to get soundly thrashed due to a bad opening hand which only hurts casual play.
In my experiences if games aren't at least a little close 1 player tends to get fed up very quickly, the rule to re shuffle once for a potential better opening hand is one worth including in the core rules imo. (Then again when i started the game i put loads of really high cost unique characters with dupes into my decks which makes my memories of early game start hands more than a little bias
) -
The rules for Mulligan are tournament ones that despite being near universally used are not mentioned in the core rules for some reason. When i first started i was amazed that there was no mention of being able to redraw your starting hand in the rules as every other CCG i have played has had some mechanic for it.
For your gaming needs:
"Before each game begins, and before any setup cards
are revealed, a player may, for any reason, re-shuffle
his or her opening hand into his or her deck, pass
the deck back to his or her opponent for additional
shuffling or cutting, and draw a new setup hand from
the same deck. This may only be performed once per
game.
The decision of whether or not to Mulligan passes
between players following the order established by
the setup coin toss. Once a player passes the opportunity to Mulligan, that player may not change his or
her mind"
Hopefully a working link

I asked a similar question here

Ktom breaks it down really well (for our group anyway) after my question. -
Arya will be going to shadows, Brienne stops opponents triggering effects which according to the faq are
"Any effect that begins with a "Phase:" or "Response:" is a triggered effect."
As Arya dosent have that wording it is not a triggered effect and thus not stopped by the Brienne. -
The difference is between 'printed' and 'gained' text.
For something to be 'printed' it must be physically on the card itself, cards can gain traits via a number of mechanics but they will not be 'printed' traits.
The best example i can think of from the top of my head is the errata to the maesters path that changed it from 'a maester character you control' to 'printed maester trait'. This was done to stop people making a character a maester via apprentice collar and stacking all chains from the agenda on that character.
As an example for power struggle, the stormlands give your plot card 'power struggle' and that CAN trigger any effect that checks for that trait, such as Renly Baratheon from 'the ravens song' whos text reads."If Renly Baratheon is the only King in play,he gains: 'after you win a power challenge and there is at least 1 Power Struggle plot card revealed, draw a card."
Renly only checks for the power struggle trait, not that it is printed on your card, nor does he care how it got there. So stormlands ensures you will have that criteria met.
But the claim raise from the stormlands requires it to be physicaly on the revealed plot card.

Good job it changes very little.

Agh, thought i made it through unscathed! To the Edit button!

Right, some slightly confusing stuff happens with city of shadows (or at least it seemed that way to me until the wise ktom broke it down) and gold penalties. Ktom will probably riddle my explanation with holes and inaccuracies but i will attempt my best.
When you bring a card out of shadows you are not 'playing from hand' but using a 'put into play' effect by 'bringing it out of shadows'.
The out of house (ooh) gold penalty applies only at setup and for cards marshalled 'from your hand', it does not apply to cards 'brought out of shadows', nor does it count when you play a non house affiliated card into shadows.
Instead the agenda adds a gold penalty of 1 for cards that are house X only when brining them out of shadows.
So tyrion lannister who is cost s2 will be, for most intents and purposes, cost s3 if not being played with a lannister house card.
I had the same thought as you when i first started looking at shadows cards and FFG could probably do to make the faq and shadows rules a little simpler.
there are plenty of topics on other fun shadows costs, such as why hidden chambers is picky about what it can and cant reduce and why despite that the tower of the hand will still trigger.
If i could make the link function work correctly i would happily include 1, but atm i cant (for some strange reason) -
I wouldnt bet against a few clarifications inside of a few weeks of rapid enquiries about scenarios that we all thought resolved in a certain way, i know that this is going to have my play group and myself going in circles on a lot of stuff that we had down previously.

Think we might have to house rule it by democracy, thanks for the clarification as always ktom

Still reviving this topic :S
If Ned can cancel an effect that targets characters in the dead pile would he able to do so if the target card is in hand, assuming of course that the effect chooses a target.
Aegons hill is the card that is raisin my question:
Challenges: Kneel Aegon's Hill to look at an opponent's hand. You may choose one character card in that hand and place it in its owner's dead pile.
If Ned is in play by the previous posts i cant see any reason that his response could not be triggered, aside from the character being in hand and thus an out of play area.

As Ktom said, robbs limit is 'reset' (for lack of a better word atm) when brought back, and the previous effect wont end till the end of the phase regardless of what happens to him, so if he is brought back and used his ability again he would get +4 in winter for lord or king (or whatever if he is given another trait).
My mistake was thinking that triggered effects that have a built in limit (like robbs 1 per round) would be remembered on a 'global' scale by the game mechanics (like 1 limited response per round) when it is the card itself that does that, new card = limit not reached.

Blockade reduces the value on the opponents plot card to zero, blockade does not provide a gold bonus of -x where x is the value on the opponents plot card. (when the game says bonus it also includes negative values such as burned and pillage). As such you would end up with plot value of 0 plus any modifiers from gold bonuses = total income.
You seem to be treating the reduction as if it is an actual negative bonus which afaik it is not.
Now for example if you are playing greyjoy and play blockade and have 3 burned and pillage (attachment; attached location gains -1 int and -1 gold) attached to your opponents locations THEN they would need a bonuses of 4 or higher to count any gold as the plot wuld be zeroand any bonuses would be reduced by 3.
