If they did this, they might actually get my money.  With the financial pressure of life and family, they will never convince me to buy a 2nd full core set.  Sorry.  So for people like me, they're just limiting their sales.

As ill-fated as this request may be, I support the intention.

I think, Bifur is an excellent pair for Gandalf due to his low threat and ability to grab useless resources from Gandalf if needed.
Bifur is an extremely good hero for any multisphere deck, as he can alone pose as two Lore heroes, sort of. In my harbor master deck where Bifur is a single Lore hero, I could field behemoths like Gildor Inglorion on turn 2 without any stewards and else.

I'm waiting for more hobbits, personally. Secrecy is really appealing with them, but the Spirit hobbits seem lacking.

The Gandalf art reminds me of the Gandalf cover art on the original Ralph Bakshi animated LOTR movie. I'm almost certain it was used as inspiration. I love it too.

You want the game to be fairly easy but your picking the hardest cycle to start.  I'm trying to help you here and I really wouldn't start with the Against the Shadow cycle.  I'm not saying you have to pick up everything released before you get the Against the Shadow cycle but I would STRONGLY recommend choosing 1 of these options:

    - Khazad dum and 3-6 of the Adventure packs in the dwarrowdelf cycle

    - The Full Mirkwood cycle

I understand you are looking forward to the great quests and cool story of the Against the Shadow cycle.  It really is great.  But to enjoy it at all I think it is a must to have a fair amount of cards from 1 or both of the options above.  Its just too hard and not enjoyable to play those quests with just a core, heirs, ATS cycle card pool.

    That's my opinion.

    Have fun,
    Khamul

You will probably find the Against the Shadow Cycle and Heirs of Numenor pretty tough without half the card pool but suit yourself.

    hey

yes you can skip any cycle as long as you
    1. have core set
    2. get the deluxe pack corresponding to the cycle you want to get

each cycle is stand alone pretty much

saga packs can be bought at any time, they only need core set

as for easy mode, well, this game is still pretty tough, with a limited card pool and just to pick up and play, but easy mode takes a lot of the bad cards out the often end the game, i would say go for it

Heirs of Numenor should be extremely hard with limited card pool even on easy mode.
Against the Shadow cycle itself is less punishing.

Welcome to the game! I can't imagine just now getting into this game. There are just so many packs to collect at this point. It can be overwhelming. I would start in order like most here are saying, however, my favorite expansion is Kazad-Dum. I would pick that up then proceed in order.

Haha he finally got spoiled hey. That artwork is crazy good!!! Makes me sad considering I don't really plan on using him. As awesome as he is I rely heavily on the core set Gandalf ally and I don't know how I'd stop using it. I am however racking my brain as to who I would replace of my 6 heroes (two handed) if I had to make room for Gandalf and certain ideas are becoming very tempting!

Wow tracker you are onto something, even if he doesn't have any resources or if he only has 1 or 2 and the card on top of your deck costs more than that I don't see anything stopping you from using your other heroes resources to play that card!

Also, surprised no-one has really said much other than simply mentioning songs but if you have one sphere it would really help if Gandalf had; just run x3 of that song and you're bound to get it eventually in most games and slap it on him thereby nullifying his neutral setback allowing him to play cards of that sphere from your hand, cards from any sphere from the top of your deck and his ridiculous stats and attachments. I kind of feel he shouldn't be able to have songs as it nullifies his only drawback (except for his high starting threat).

Also as amazing as that art is and as much as I love it I'd definitely prefer it without that weird blue scarf he is wearing... makes him look less powerful and awe-inspiring and more like doctor who or some ****.... lol

Just note. i think a game is really going well now. With all new balanced in my opinion really balanced new player cards and encounter decks game is come to serious level same as any competitive tournament card game as Android, MTG and GOT.

Now in Nmode even with powerful decks and veteran players you still can lose even when you are think you ok. That big improve and good designer job. Caleb make  good job and i would like thank him for  that. Now wait news from GenCon!

yes, the dwarrowdelf cycle is by far the easiest...power cards mixed with relatively easy quests...actually thats why its my favourite so far

yes, difficulty in this game is something that changes over time - those core quests can easily be beaten with a full card pool, but are far more challenging...

to directly answer you though - i would say go in order also. hunt for gollum is next and is a nice medium quest. conflict at the carrock has a high difficulty rating but with the right deck and strategy its quite easy. rhosgobel has a reputation for being luck based - its difficult. emyn muil is very easy, one of the easiest released. dead marshes is medium -  a nice quest. and return to mirkwood is a great multi quest, but difficult solo
