tsuma534 reacted to Mathompson in Terror effects on rooms with terror tasks
Scenario: a room task requires two terror and the room has a terror penalty
You roll six green dice and get one terror.
    You pay the terror penalty.
You save the terror, lose a dice and roll four dice.
None of the four dice have a terror.
Do you repay the terror for the saved dice?
The verbiage in the rules is a bit ambiguous because the first part of it talks about failed tasks and the second part talks about rolled dice.
We played it the harder way to err on the side of caution, but would like clarity.

Viewers' Digest version:  The old molds broke from use, so modern (and onwards) copies of the Mansions of Madness 2nd Ed core games have all new (and some would argue visually better) molds than the earlier models. This would explain why Lily Chen has two different models.
That said, would they redesign the collections at this point, or scrap the collections and release the models in as part of future expansions.

tsuma534 got a reaction from hamid.mehdizade69 in What is the difference between spend and discard?
A spent Clue is discarded. It doesn't go back to the Clue pool until that pool is empty.

All kinds of double-sided cards are shuffled back to their respective deck at the moment they are discarded.

Ok, my guess "It's about the money" is as good as yours "It's not" but I'm not sure if you really disagree with me.

    It's cheap. It saves money.

Selling the same thing again is one of the well-established ways to make more money while spending less money.

While it is possible that it was done out of (for example) spite, I think it's more likely that someone decided that it will be more profitable to cancel that products.
Maybe that person was wrong but I'm willing to bet my own money that the money was a sole criterion for this decision.

Ok, now you're saying it yourself. Money.

I can at least help with this one. Here's the Arkham Horror Second Edition forum. It's still available, it's just been moved to the archive.
I'm sure at least some of the fans have it subscribed, so maybe you'll find what you're looking for there.

Edit 1: Of course, there's also the BGG forum which definitely is active.

Edit 2: Ok, I googled it.

tsuma534 reacted to Julia in Dead of Night To expensive!!!
Yeah, there's been a lot of talking about this mostly everywhere in the last few years. At some point, when MoM 2nd was released, a guy on BGG posted that 100 bucks for 4 evenings of fun were too much, and another one answered "when I go to the movies with the wife, we grab a bite to eat, two tickets for the show, and we pay a babysitter to stay home with the two kids, and we blow 120 in a single evening..."
So, it's a question of perspective, and also as Soakman said, value and cost are a different thing. Starve three days and see a burger for sale at 40 dollars. You're gonna get it.
Comparing LotR / SW and Mythos isn't fair. We need to compare the number of copies these game sell. Because if SW sells 10 times Arkham, then it means that the fixed costs (tied to development of the game and production of the physical copy) are divided over 10 times more copies in the SW case, and thus the cost of the license is absorbed to the point that the profit margin for the lines could be comparable. Do we have these data? No.
Then, the only question we need to ask yourself is whether we're ok or not to pay 30 to cash 2 scenarios and double the cards in the game. The answer is entirely up to you / to your wallet / to your interest in the line (and there's no right or wrong answer).
Is FFG playing cheap? Yes, they are dropping the number of cards / components in their games, they are dropping quality on the boxes, and they are slightly dropping quality on components (my 3rd edition copy already has some wear and tear whereas my 2nd edition copy survived a lot more), BUT they are mantaining the prices constant over time. Looks like a marketing choice they did. You can respect that or not (again, entirely your decision).
I know I'm gonna get this one because for me it's a worthy investment, and I'm confident the two new scenarios will be a blast to play, but that's just me.

Focus Limit: 2, Health:7, Sanity: 5; 2 Lore, 2 Influence, 3 Observation, 3 Strength, 3 Will Starting "0.38 Special" & choice of "Follow Up" or "Implacable"
    0.38 Special
Item - Common Weapon "You get +2 Strength as part of an attack action.  If the monster you are attacking has a remnant icon, you get +3 Strength instead." Follow Up
Talent - Innate "When you would gain a remnant, you may spawn a clue instead." Implacable
Talent - Innate "When you would gain a remnant, you may regain 1 health and 1 sanity instead." ---
There's a new condition card which I'm adding here not for the interesting bits of mechanic it has but rather the outstanding artwork on it.  Incredibly evocative.

Take note on the font that "Daniel Chesterfield" was printed with. When you see such font, then it's a card from either the Special deck or the Condition deck (which are more or less a single deck in this game).
This is stated in the rulebook but I can't check the page now.

If FFG wasn't bought back by Asmodée, I think things would be different. But Asmodée wants to make money and be a real threat to Hasbro, and by then, all that is not purely profitable is avoided.
I'm almost sure that "Lost legends" is a real big hard negocations with Asmodee to pleasure fans, using the excuse that it can boost selling on the app, the only next level of the game (to my biggest regrets).
A game is played, good. A big fan base is here, great. But does it makes money ? Maybe not, or not enough. Last expansions did not sell well (and I'm sure Asmodée if again for something, to "break in two" an expansion that should  not) and the app sells many base game, so, why adding more stuff since there's already a source of money ? Maybe something like micro transaction could save the game.

The thing I'm surprised about is that I'm sure that campaigns books would sell really great. And some small expansions as well.
The only hope is that Lost Legends will sell so much that they will do more small stuff like that to expand the game. And I will be the one to do campaigns, since we are so few to do so

    Icabod,
Nikki worked only on the core set for Mansions. Then, starting with the first expansion, the lead passed to Grace Holdinghouse and Kara Centell-Dunk (aided by various other developers over the years), while Nikki was working on other stuff (AH 3rd, Legacy of Dragonholt, Eldritch Horror). So, Nikki leaving FFG had zero impact on Mansions

I think that Arkham Horror 2ed forums are more robust because:
    • It is much easier to create fan content for it
    • The fan content was officially supported
Not mentioning official league, official free additional content to download and official companion app.
I would say that AH2ed community got much more support from FFG than EH community.

tsuma534 reacted to spudboy58 in Problems receiving promo item?
I can give a little insight to what I know about this. Your LGS would have had to preorder before the deadline in order to receive the preorder book with the copies of their games. If your LGS did not order in time or ordered after the deadline, they would not receive the books. As soon as me and my friend (who works at my LGS) knee about the books, we had the manager (who is also a friend of mine) call the Asmodee rep at the distributor and preorder asap. Only enough copies were printed for those stores that preordered. So again. If your LGS decided, as I know some do, to wait until they had a certain amount for their order to get free shipping or just didnt find it a priority to preorder, they would miss out.
