Hantheman got a reaction from Grayfax in Let's fix the Starviper, Hawk, M3A all in one go...
I'm ok with the StarViper's cost. Its a fast maeuverable but squishier B-Wing for 3+ pts more. (I'm not that happy with FFG's interpretation of it as a knife-fighter, but its workable within the game. If I were to interprete the StarViper it would have greens in 3 turns, 4 & 5 straight speeds but reds 1 & 2 straights and 1 banks. - But this is irrelevent, FFG has mad a decision here and I'm willing to stick with it.)

For 3 points more has +2 Agility, +1 Hull, -4 Shields, -1 PS, gains Boost and loses a Systems, Cannon and Torpedo, SLoops at 3 instead of KTurn at 2, comparing the loweset cost B-Wing to the lowest cost StarViper. Excluding SLoops and KTurn (which are red on both craft), the StarViper has an extra green at 3 straight, but lhas whites where the B-Wing has reds at 4 straight, 3 banks and 1 turns. However this is outside the StarViper's faction making it harder to compare.

Comparing within S&V, the Cartel Marauder costs 5 pts less vs the Black Sun Enforcer. Differences are: +1 Agility, 3 & 1 straight green, 3 SLoop reds, torpedos, Boost, Barrel Roll in favor of the StarViper; +1 Pilot Skill, 2 green banks, 5 & 4 KTurn reds, missiles, illict in favor of the Kihraxz.

Basically for 5 points the StarViper gains:
+1 Agility Boost & Barrel Roll options very slightly superior dial (option to go 1 straight, both ships have the same number of green and red overall) but loses:
Illict Upgrade slot Missiles vs Torpedoes (general consenus is that missiles are slightly better but is a very, very small difference) +1 Agility and Boost for 5 points isn't a bad deal. The Illict Upgrade loss is quite noticable vs the starviper.

Here are my suggestions for StarViper "fixes" (Neither really improves it for free, but does give it more options):

Title: StarViper-M2: 0 pts: You must equip one cannon upgrade card that costs less than 3 points (paying the squad point cost as normal). Your upgrade bar gains the Illict Upgrade Slot.

Torpedo: Buzz Droid Dispenser: not free, 2 pts?: SCUM ONLY. During the Combat phase, instead of performing any attacks, you may choose 1 enemy ship at Range 1 and roll 1 attack die. On a hit or critical result, the enemy ship receives one Buzz Droid token.

Buzz Droid token: Any ship with any number of Buzz Droid tokens perform the following ability. ACTION: Roll a number of defense dice equal to the number of Buzz Droid tokens on your ship. Remove one Buzz Droid token for each Evade result you roll. (For all rules and purposes this ability is considered an ability granted from a Damage Card.) During the End Phase, a ship with one or more Buzz Droid tokens rolls a number of attack die equal to the number of Buzz Droid tokens on it. Deal one facedown Damage card for to the ship for each Hit result rolled, and one faceup Damage card for each Crit result rolled.

Always buy ships based on the ships you wanna play. Use a squadron builder if you need to proxy. It just cos there is a new card out that could be good for you doesn't mean that you need to own it unless you play official tournaments.

Hantheman got a reaction from Animewarsdude in TFA era ships
Obsolete in military terms usually means doesn't conform to current doctrine or cost too **** much to maintain logistically. Remember the Night Witches used PO-2 biplanes in WWII against the Germans. They actually moved so slowly the Germans had problems hitting them without stalling their engines. Again in WWII the horse was one of the most important forms of draught and transportation. While it was extremely vulnerable to gunfire, horses could operate without fuel which some nations like Germany had limited access to. While there were cases of cavalry tactics used in WWII, they were mostly used to transport infantry, and artillery.

Remember the until the events of episode II movie, war was a very theoretical thing - neither of the 2 galactic powers, the Republic or the Hutts were interested in pursuing a war of conquest prefering to use diplomancy, influence, economics and subterfuge. The Hutts kept their military technology but were too proud to use it, and too cunning to sell it. The republic however seemed to have lost a lot of their old tech, tactics and doctrines. The clone wars which lead to the militaristic Empire changed that, however it lost the war against the Rebels due its own internal corruption. The First Order seems to be the primary remnant of the Empire (if not only), and have continued their pursuit of tech while the New republic returned to the decadent old republic ways.

Also lastly, tech in Star Wars cannot be compared to the tech advances in the first half of the 1900s. If anything is sorta like the tech progress of say the Mongol conquests. Advances in tech are incremental and evolutionary not revolutionary. Blaster tech, repulsor tech and other wonderous tech have been around since the before the old republic - yes its gotten smaller and more refined but hasn't really gotten that much better.

This is incorrect - the BTL-S3 Courier was a shuttle version of the Y-Wing. It stripped the gunner's compartment and most likely the torpedoes to make room for crew. Rebel commandos used this to paraglide to an assault location among other missions. It was not a common modification however.
Rebels never did use the HWK much - in fact almost every unique character in the game, Rebel and Scum,  that fies the HWK flies the same ship - the Moldy Crow at some point of time or other (exception is Torkil Mux who had his own).

A standard HWK was a very nimble ship, possibly a Agi 3 ship but had no armament. The turret and armament of the Crow is probably the reason FFG deems it flies like crap.

Ok so one might - Still need at least 2 uniques - Onyo and Ventress were both Bounty Hunters when they owned this ship - so its more likely to be scum with 2 non-uniques, or maybe they'll throw in Quinlan Vos, the man's pretty scummy for a Jedi.

For Scurrg, I can see Nym, Jinkins and Kole as the 3 uniques.

Hmmm... My guesses: 4 ships regarless of what others think - the TFA wave (What I call the wave lauching the TFA Core, TIE/fo and T/70 X-Wing) made Wave 8 6 ships in size by adding 2 extra ship after the initial announcement and launching them before the rest of the wave was launched. This may again be repeated in Wave 10 coinciding with the release of "Rogue One", and again in Wave 11 coinciding with the release of Episode VIII. In fact I'm pretty certain of Wave 11 having something similar to the TFA release but less certain about "Rogue One" as it is more of a heist movie than a battle movie or a space opera.

    Imperial
TFA has 2 strong contenders for a spot here: the TIE/sf and the Upsilon-class shuttle. On one hand, FFG might want to launch them straight away, on the other hand, they might want to wait for LSG to actually release some canon pilot names or callsigns, instead of having uniques for Black Leader, Black Ace, etc (the only known squadron for TIE/sf at the moment is Black Squadron).

Going back to Legends, the TIE Aggressor (missile carrier with turret) or the (TIE) Scimitar Assault Bomber, are choices if FFG decides to stick to TIEs. Alternatively, they could get another large ship - the Star Courier has been featured in the "Lando" comic by Marvel and is one of Emperor Palpatine's personal starship (among many others). I'm personally hoping for the TIE/sf or the TIE Aggressor.

    Rebels
The only TFA ship left for the Resistance is the Rebel Transport - a frankenstein ship assembled mostly from parts of a B-Wing. It's got shuttle sub-light engines, B-Wing shields, and can mount a bunch of canons and even torpedoes. A Width of 16.8 means it could possibly fit on a small base.

The Rebels are almost certain to get a small ship after getting the massive Ghost, however all the well known small star fighters in the Rebel Alliance have already been done. More obsure small ships are: clone war era fighters known to be used by the Rebel alliance include the N-1 (flown by Leia and Poe's mom in Disney Canon), the Eta-2 Actis (a few Jedi supporters of the Rebellion managed to flee Order 66 with their starships in Legends), and the Belbullab-22 (Obi-wan claimed the Souless One after Order 66 - its either with him or Bail, many seperatist holdouts join the Rebellion according to Legends lore as well). Deeper in Legends is the H-Wing and FFG's own Tallanx-Class Stealth Fighter. I'm personally hoping for the Tallanx-Class Stealth Fighter which is a light (Z-95 equivilent) starfighter with cloaking ability.

    Scum
Scum is still catching up so I expect to see 2 ships for scum here - at least 1 will be a Large ship continuing their theme.

For large ships, the Scurrg H-6 is the most likely, having appreared in Armarda. Also it's a dedicated heavy fighter bomber - something that scum doesn't have. Scum still has a large selection of ships as compared to Rebels or Imperials both which are close to saturation, but ideally I'd like to see a true heavy fighter (large powerful still moves like a fighter rather than a shuttle or freighter), like the Preybird, the M12-L Kimogila or the Rihkxyrk assault fighter or a small fighter with an astromech like the G1-M4-C Dunelizard of the Drexl.

However along with these I also expect the announcement of a Scum Aces type expansion, and possibly a Scum huge ship within the first half of the year. Also, a Rebels Veterans expansion may be announced (this is uncertain as pretty much every ship in Rebels is playable with at least 1 or 2 pilots) - if it does happen I expect the E-Wing to be in it while the other is less certain but is likely to be either the Z-95 or X-Wing. The reason for this is I expect either the Z-95 or X-Wing to be featured in the Rogue One movie (for spoiler-ish reasons I won't post) and Y-Wings have been used in Rogue One promo material so far. I'm pretty sure we'll see a Rogue One tie in release in December, Rebels with Y-Wings is pretty much a certainty, not sure about Imperials or Scum, and I'm pretty confident it will not be a core set (I could be wrong on this).

I dunno, I think you'll get more mileage out of 5x Autoceptors, honestly.

Contemplating 4x Saber + Juke + AT, as an alternative.  Juke lets you always evade instead of focusing and still get an attack boost, and PS4 pilots will get you out of the Predator two-dice-reroll range.  Not sure it's good enough to be worth picking up 4x TIE FOs, though...

Mobility upgrades (Barrel Roll or Boost) work wonders on this ship due to it's F/R Arcs.

It's starting to show it's age due to power creep and could benefit from a small upgrade.

"Realistic" depiction of missiles and torps are almost impossible - a torp is an anti capital ship weapon - if a small or large ship takes one its very likely to be completely destroyed. Anti-starship missiles are not much better especially when used on a small ship. The bomb mechanic is strange in this game as well - more like anti pursuit weapons capital killers; or are mines.

But X-Wing is an abstract game - as long as its mechanicallly useful within the game it fine for me.

Actually FFG does seem to have a pricing is based on: The unit package size, Number of pilot+upgrade cards, Number of fibreboard sprues.

Most SRP $14.95 blisters have the following pack list: 4 pilot cards, 5 upgrade cards, 2 fibreboard sprues for dialis, bases, tokens, etc (there maybe extra cards for rules); The notable exceptions are the TIE Fighter, TIE/fo and TIE Interceptor which have: 6 pilot cards, 2 upgrade cards, 2 fibreboard sprues for dialis, bases, tokens, etc (extra rule card in the TIE Interceptor).

All SRP $19.95 blisters have the following pack list: 4 pilot cards, 9 upgrade cards, 2-3 fibreboard sprues for dialis, bases, tokens, etc (there maybe extra cards for rules)

Boxed sets have slight more variation usually of a 2-3 upgrade cards but are generally the same.

Ultimatly, the shipping size a ship requires seems to be the biggest factor when determining pricing, and FFG is happy to throw in more cards in larger packages.

I presonally prefer Most Recent Printing rules for cards. But I also know that once you have adopted a system like FFG's no updated cards rules (which was made so older players would always have up to date cards) the worst thing you can do it is to change it. It pisses your early adopters off and it doesn't necessarily attract new players.
