Still, I'd not pick up Eldritch either. For two different reasons:
a) the core game is really low on cards (seriously, you cycle encounter decks at least once per game) so that probably you'll need an expansion to fix it. This means something like 100 bucks invested, which even if not much, is still quite a load of money. Plus, you said you're a completionist, and probably this game will receive several expansions (so that maybe Arkham will be cheaper in the end)
The AH base game leaves a bit to be desired after you figure out all you need to do is seal the Big Four and rest on your laurels until you get another two seals so saying that EH needs and expansion to "fix" it is a bit misleading. Both EH and AH (without expansions) are fun but lacking in long term replayability.

Why is there this huge rift between people that like EH and people that like AH? Between here and BGG a good portion of the posts I see are "AH is better than EH for these reasons" or vice versa. Why do people feel the need to choose one over the other and enforce their opinions?

This http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?PID=935 holds all the cardboard bits (and you can keep the investigators on the stands) with some room to spare.

That is what I do. The investigator destablises it when he passes through it, I figure.
What do you do with devouring gates and the ones that add doom tokens (the name just fell out of my mind)?
The gate's ability on triggers if it opens on an investigator and since when a gate opens on an investigator they immediately go through it there's no issue. The only problem you run into with playing LatT gates face down is the movers don't move until they're flipped over.

Second turn loss due to the Deep Ones Rising track filling after a few monster surges. I really wish whoever invented that mechanic had thought of a different penalty.

Hi all,
I noticed some discrepancies between French edition and wiki. Could you please confirm that wiki is right for:
- Plague of Locusts: Is it exhaust or discard?
- Denying the Ancient One: Is it exhaust or discard?
- Feeding the Mind: Is it exhaust or discard?
- The Messenger: Is it "All Skill checks" or "All Combat checks"?
Thanks for your help,
Onverra
The wiki is correct on all accounts. FFG really needs to get some new translators.
Or maybe this is just a plot by the Illuminati to force everyone to learn English so it will be easier for them to control us once they institute the NWO and have us under a global government.

The second rule is "forget the other rules." You did well.
His name is Robert Paulson.
Wait, what were we talking about?

Oh and the second game is tomorrow night. I guess I will post the results the next day
Yes, please tell us all the gory details.

Speculative post incoming.
It's not that we can't discuss the rules it's that anyone who has seen the nigh legendary Arkham Horror FAQ have apparently been told they can't say anything else pertaining to it. Basically they can't answer any rules questions without being 100% sure they don't include any info from the FAQ That Shall Not Be Named or they'll get spanked or whatnot. NDAs are a *****.

Good point…Here's the new plan: we stick a bunch of zombie-slave spines into people, and then write up their glimpses of blasphemous knowledge as The Revelations of FAAQi
Ooooh, we can use all the folks I have locked in my basement!
Wait, no… staying in my basement of their own free will. Yep.

Oh, well, maybe there is a reason: they don't spend enough time working on them because they have other things to do. As a customer, I feel offended by this: I (and all people on this forum, and in general all people owning Arkham) have paid a lot of money for a product, and a certain service should be provided by the company. If you don't care of your customers, they'll simply stop buying your products
It's not like AH isn't still selling. How many new people have we seen come here and on BGG asking questions lately?

So where exactly does it say anything about not discussing rules?
Sorry, we are not allowed to talk about this either

(more seriously, I guess everything started with the "you cannot say things that should be revealed in the upcoming FAQ" thing
"Upcoming" needs a stricter definition which includes a concrete time frame. This is quite ridiculous.

If you can use a spell to help another investigator it will state that explicitly in the spell's text so your wife can't cast it on your weapons. The "Any Phase" text is there because combat can occur during movement, Arkham encounter and Other World encounter phases.
-
Ok, I've made a valiant attempt to read the Terms twice but when you have a 2 year old bouncing around in your lap clamoring for an encore of the Barney song over and over it's a bit hard to focus. So where exactly does it say anything about not discussing rules?
-
I watched the first one and thought it was pretty good aside from some focus issues on the close ups and the camera being a little shaky. Don't worry about mispronouncing names since I doubt anyone else would do any better.
-
I second Yggdrasil and Death Angel. They're both pretty quick compared to AH but have some of the same feelings of hopelessness and overwhelming odds. The Mage Knight board game has been getting some pretty good reviews and it can be played solo, co-op and competitively.

So if Hank fails a combat check against a Nightgaunt does he immediately make the Horror check and then go through the nearest gate OR get sucked into the gate then make the Horror check? I purposely had Hank fail a combat check while in the Dreamlands so he could get back to Arkham but if the Horror check would've driven him insane I'd like to know where he'd end up.
Same goes for a Dimensional Shambler.

Q: When gate is open (eny location) and investigator comes fom the Other world (and gain exploration marker), does he during the encouter phase need's to close the gate or he can choose to take encouter from that location?
The investigator can only close/seal or just sit and wait. He can't have any encounters at the location or use any special abilities it may have.

I think the beauty of the game itself is that you can build it in a way that the board actually destroys you know matter how well you do. I have played a game of Arkham with some of the most challenging combinations that rules "allow" me to use, and I told myself that these amount of investigators (the ones I was using) are allowed to role 6's on every single dice they roll for whatever the reason may be. In the end, the board wins due to the fact that you simply cannot beat the amount of things going on at any given moment with all expansions in play.
Honestly, what's the point of playing Arkham Horror if you don't lose on purpose? I'm not saying people don't laugh at their downfalls or that I don't try to win at times, but I guess that's why I love this game the most. Losing is the best part! Watching the game tear you apart, read your every move as if the game knows you drew Glakhi as your Ancient One and every Mythos that was shuffled immensely beforehand increases the Terror Level in some way of another; those moments are the best. I love Arkham because you don't lose as a single player against other players, you lose as a team. New players I expose to Arkham always come in with a high and mighty attitude about how awesome they are, and I watch the game tear them to pieces. It makes me love the game more when other players role better than I do and I watch my poor dice rolling skills destroy me.
In the end, I don't care how an expansion changes the way a game is played, or whether or not it is "broken" as some of you have used. Those elements always add something new to the table. Don't get me wrong, winning is awesome as a team, but as I said, the losses are what make this game the best.
Yeah, like our third Mythos phase monster surge which filled the Deep Ones Rising track causing Ghatanothoa to wake up and ***** slap our woefully unprepared investigators. I love this game.

...canon...Canon? I sincerely doubt that most people involved in the creation and evolution of the Mythos were at all concerned about anything canonical regarding it. Well, except maybe August Derleth...

there is nowhere written that you're allowed to generate extra movement points after your movement ends. But that's exactly my point; where does it say that you CAN'T do that?
I know, it's nit-picky, but it seems like such a fringe case that it's not ridiculously OP.
Going with that line of thinking investigators can move after combat. Now that would be OP IMHO.

Bleh, where did my big post go?
Long story short, I'm wondering if you could end your movement in a location, pick up a clue token there, and THEN exhaust Motorcycle to move another two spaces and pick up another clue token. The rules say, "You must end your movement to pick up a clue token", not "You must not move any more after picking up a clue token."
I'm pretty sure that the intent is clues are picked up at the end of your movement phase. Otherwise I could grab all the clues from Backwoods Country in Dunwich with a motorcycle and two Maps of Arkham.

Hate the game? Suck it up, buttercup.

Professor,
Please reread my original comment above. I think you may have misread so I added emphasis to the pertinent bit. AH with expansions, especially all of the expansions, has an amazing amount of replayability and variety.
EDIT:
How do I get Julia's quote box from my original post out of my current quote?Nevermind, I'm an idiot.
