And Horn of Gondor. For one, the card should mention Boromir in the text. We have Firefoot and Snowmane for Eomer and Theoden respectively and they are not nearly as famous as the Horn and not nearly as connected to Boromir in the legendarium. It was the problem with the core set card because Boromir was not there yet, which was the shame, and I do not see why as he was clearly designed by then (the Mirkwood cycle). So I would like to see a new version of such a famed artifact that is actually well functional and has a bonus when attached to Boromir.

And Gondor is not so bad as it is, but since I like to play them almost as much as I do Noldor or Silvan, I see it is inferior against most of the quests (which I play at least), probably all compared to the Noldor discard Lords of the Eldar Narya Erestor monster.

I think I will put Radagast together with Beorn and a Leadership hero, probably Theodred, for extra resources and lower threat. Questing might be an issue but it should play fast. In saga, you will be able to play the Staff and Eagles of the Misty Mountains round 1, for instance.

Game 5 went really well, though it was long, too. 17 allies out in the end includng all the big guns. I will be going away tomorrow where I cannot play, but I hope five games are enough for now to see the deck can work. Once you get familiar with it, and perhaps with the quest against it, you should be able to enjoy it, and win. The best of luck!

I like the traps. What I don’t like about them is that when I make a deck I want to take through many (not nearly all now, of course) quests. And some, like in Black Riders, totally mitigate the power of a trap deck. Ithilien Pit is probably the best trap against the Haradrim in Cross-roads. And I find it is often an overlooked card tha I have used to very effect.

As for the stereotypical deck, I wonder about the absence of Risk Some Light, probably my favourite secrecy card, and one that makes the opening round(s) so much easier as a rule.

As I said before, especially if you are going to try two-handed, pick Haldir as a hero. You need a Tactics hero with him in the deck, perhaps Eowyn or the new Bilbo if you have him already, to start rather low on threat, and to be able to equip him with the Bow of the Galadhrim, early. Pack three of those and some other weapons to make sure he strikes with 7 early. That way he will take down most of the enemies without the need of engaging them.

Just won, first try, normal mode, but it was not easy. I had Vilya after the mulligan. Quickbeam was the top card and I could play both him and Vilya first round. After I played QB, Gwaihir showed up (he is not that great in the deck for his ability but still he is a big hitter), so I put him into play with Vilya. I got the archer and Arrows Thick in the Air round one. That was not bad because of the low threat (I only sent Frodo and Gandalf questing), blocked the Archer with Beregond, killed it with QB and G.
The game went well untill Livery, Wizzard Pipe and Vilya all got discarded through Shadow effects. I usually like to get rid of the shadow cards with the Staff but I had it late. Then I already had three enemies under the Black Gate so I had to engage the last Mumak and that was tough, almost lost Beregond but in the end I won with 39 threat on round 8. I think I was quite unlucky with some of the treacheries and not getting more locations but I only revealed two additional enemies (and shuffled one back with the Frodo ability — make sure you pick the one from Black Riders). I later had both Trackers and also Meneldor out and they helped clear two locations. Played Free Peoples in the penultimate round for a nice questing push and then had everyone ready to dispose of two enemies.
I am confident to beat it at least two thirds of the time with this deck. If you want me to, I keep going at it for ten games, for instance.
Bilbo x2, Arwen, Stargazer x3, Zigil x2, Wild Stalion, Warden x2, Quickbeam, Meneldor, Son of Arnor, Northern Tracker x2, Elfhelm, Erestor, Faramir, Boromir, Treebeard, Radagast, Glorfindel, Gildor Inglorion, Gwaihir, Beorn.
Livery of the Tower, Wizzard Pipe x2, Gandalf’s Staff x3, Vilya x3, Shadowfax.
Hidden Cache x2, Flame of Anor x2, Word of Command x3, Desperate Defence x2, A Test of Will x2, The Galadhrim’s Greeting, The Free Peoples x2.

No. Why would you think so? That is not the rule. Character commited to the quest contribute the willpower regardless if they are ready or not. They just must not be removed from the quest (some encounters and even player cards can do that).

I am pulling my deck out now, and if I win and you are still interested I will present it here. It is nothing new, a regular Vilya update with the three mentioned heroes.

But I am afraid there are much harder quests than this one. I have not played them all but I have played each saga quest maybe a hundred times (or most of them at least) and I would not think of this as the hardest by a long shot. I like it though, I think it is an exciting one though it may be treacherous, but not always annoying like Helm’s Deep, for instance.
I think two handed is not what concerns mr. gpd. But I think it is more fun two handed, as most quests are (2 player anyway), because you can try different things.
    Good luck!

The self-proclaimed One Deck is strong but not nearly a silver bullet, there are many decks of similar power, some do better against some quests, worse elsewhere, obviously. Vilya decks are always strong, but having Beregond there is certainly useful against the quests like this one (hence the other thread).

A good hero here is Haldir. With him you can avoid many nasty engagement effects. It is just not easy to place Haldir in a deck that can handle questing required against this quest, and at the same time have enough support to make Haldir efficient.

I think Tolkien might have thought again about Bladorthin and discarded the idea.
Ok, check Encyclopedia of Arda, if you haven’t and are interested. But it says very little. The most interesting information given, perhaps, that Bladorthin was first a name reserved for Gandalf.

Yeah, good idea. But I would also like to see his questing side, maybe using attack instead of willpower for a cost? Or adding to it...

I would certainly like to see
Tactics Glorfindel. This is easily my number hero wish, even though the Spirit hero version is my favourite hero already, and the ally is really good. But Noldor need a Tactics hero and there simply is not a better representation than Glorfindel at this point of time in Middle-earth.
Neutral Saruman. Yeah, I like to dislike the character in the books, he is more of a Villain to me than Sauron in some respects, but I like to see his good side, and the game hero representation as I do not get to play the ally so much, the doomed 3 just seems too much for the ability, though it can save the game, sometimes.
Lore Gildor. This is a very unlikely wish as we are getting the Leadership version, which I am not too excited about, also because of the art. As an alternate, a Blue Wizzard.
Spirit Boromir. Another never gonna be, but I just like Boromir so much and Spirit seems a good place for him too, at least as I see Spirit.
Leadership Galadriel. A more active version. Not much more, but still. As an alternate, a Blue Wizzard.
More than any of these, I would like to see Tom Bombadil and Goldberry player cards, though. Without them the game will not feel complete.

On one hand, I am really happy we got an announcement, on the other, I too would also prefer the Shire. Aslo, the cards seem a bit less exciting than usual. Of course I want to see Sméagol but without encounter control, losing a hero to the Stinker cards, that’s a bit risky. That being said, with 3 starting threat it is an ideal hero for a mono-Lore secrecy Denetor encounter manipulation deck, perhaps.

Funny you give these examples, I too find them his best of the latter movies. Also after the Dead Men refuse as Aragorn looks at the Corsair ships, his failing hope is very convincing. In a similar way he is very good with both Boromir and Haldir passing away. And though Jackson usually does a very good job with actors, I do not think he got the best out of Viggo. Sean Bean had much less screen time to play with and he achieved much more for Boromir’s character. So did the likes of Ian Holm but that could have been expected of such an accomplished actor.

Do not skip that one, though. Well, just as with the films, I prefer the Fellowship to the rest, without a doubt. And I really dig the rest, too, but the Fellowship is just magic. I almost never get beyond book iii actually because I then go back to the beginning again... though sometimes I like book v too...

You know, I feel almost the same. Boromir is my favourite in the book but some of his adaptation actually makes the character even more rich, and I really liked the extended scene in the Two Towers where you get to see the brothers together, that was special which you did not get in the books.
And ever since the films went out I was thinking you know one day they can make maybe six movies or a series, and then when the tv hit the golden era, I really started thinking, and then the Amazon announcement came. But I am super happy they do the Second Age. However, if they do that right, they can then do the Third Age, you know Angmar and the second rising of Sauron, and perhaps the whole War of the Ring, including the Battles in the North. It could be grand, the five seasons just a start if things go right but I can see fourteen or twenty with all of this material before we ever get to the Silmarillion.

It is true, the Fellowship, as a movie, is still one of my favourite movies, even though it skips almost all my favourite parts of the book it adapts: the 17 years between departures, the slow wandering, Gildor, Maggot, Crickhollow, Bombadil and Glorfindel (though I would say the book ii is adapted wonderfully, well, I even understand some of the adaptation choices of the first part, but they are my favourite).
