  1. I'm so sorry I never returned to this topic until 9 years later. My game came into, almost literally, a decade-long hiatus. But this has been a very interesting read and gave me a lot of inspiration for my hopefully continuation of my saga.

  2. Replying to a super old post, but jesus how rude Mantis was. I would agree this system has its flaws and I would love to simplify it a bit, as well. Heck, if I could, I would convert it into a slightly more complicated form of D&D 5e.

  3. Thanks for all of your replies. I will try to think in terms of "re-fluff" for existing items.

Me and my GM noted that magnetic feet doesn't exist rulewise anywhere. So he made up one. He said that the upgrade could either remove two setback dice or add two boost dice when doing athletics check. Is this a fair ruling?

(I was allowed to buy rocket boots to get the jetpack, and I think this fits pretty well).

  4. Hey, I'm playing a traditional R2 astromech droid and om having a bit of troublr finding gear that one would think standard astromech would have.

What I have in mind are magnetic feet, booster/jet pack and fire extinguisher.

Also, regarding cybernetic parts, they do work on droids, right? A problem I'm finding is that they are mostly describing from a humanoid's perspective. I mean, what would a cybernetic spine, foot or that Lobot head thing be for an astromech?

  5. It's a nice map but I can't help but get annoyed by some things.

    - Why is Raxus Prime more important than Raxus Secunda? The former is a junkyard planet while the other had civilizations and was the capital of the Separatists.

    - Did both Mandalore and Concord Dawn REALLY have to be included at the map? Why not just Mandalore?

    - Mustafar is Rebellion aligned? Really? Where's their base? Right next to Vader's castle?

    - What's so important for Smuggler's Run to be included on the map?

    - Dagobah has the same problem classic Battlefront 2 had: why would they contest on a secluded, unimportant planet? Because it appears in the movies.

  6. What I don't like about FFG is how messy everything is. At higher levels you will have so many talents you'd forgotten what you got. You basically have to print out the talent trees and the players have character forms rather than character sheets. Weapon qualities are confusing, the Destiny point ebb-and-flow doesn't work, the duty and morality are underwhelming, etc. Plus everyone are squishy. You get one or two shot before you're down but in combat unless you min-max: then you become ridiculous strong.

I prefer Saga edition. I just never could feel the love to GM the FFG games.

Space combat rules sucks for both systems, though.

  7. I rule it so the character always has Extra Reloads but can still be affected by Despair to run out ammo. So they have to spend a maneuver to reload. Otherwise, as a GM, I would never choose them to run out of ammo and preferably do weapon damage or some other thing, which I think is scummy. But rule as written, the GM choose to make them run out of ammo and nothing happens.

  8. Welp, my campaign died before I could try your rules. Shame. Can't believe one and a half year has passed since I posted.
I am trying to revive another campaign and I am once again checking your starship rules. Something that is bothering me is Gain the Advantage (GtA) and I have a few questions. I hope you haven't left the internet completely but anyone else is free to comment.

You choose one of the target vehicle’s fire arcs until the bonuses from Gain the Advantage are ended. The target vehicle can only fire on you with weapons that can target that fire arc, and you may only attack this firing arc.

Then, from the official rules for GtA:

    Quote

If the check succeeds, the pilot ignores all penalties imposed by his own and his opponent's use of the Evasive Maneuvers starship maneuver until the end of the following round. In addition, the pilot also chooses which defense zone he hits with his attack.

Question 1: Isn't the bonus redundant? If I fail the check but generate two advantages, I choose the opponents aft fire arc and my front fire arc. He can't shoot me because he has no guns on that arc but I can shoot it. What's the point of succeeding with the GtA then if the result is the same? Doesn't this become redundant?

Question 2: Since you write "...until the bonuses from Gain the Advantage are ended", is the intention that these advantage abilities cannot be used on a failed GtA check?

I like these abilities but I wish there were advantage abilities that may be used even on a failed check. I would however rule that the Triump ability (the one giving a free base damage to the opponent) can be used on a failed GtA check. I think it's fitting with two fighters dogging it out and some stray bullets does manage to hit the opponent while weaving around each other.

  9. If this is gonna be as limited as Obi-Wan Kenobi on Spiel 2019 then good freaking luck getting one. They got like 20 figures per day or something. I bet the sellers were hiding some for themselves.

  10. Hey everyone.

I am a GM who has in countless times had the problem of either players not updating their character sheets or them (or me) forgetting to bring them to a gaming session.

I've tried to search the internets a way to make this easier but I have only found roll20 and I am not too pleased with it. So I came here to ask for help.

Is anyone aware of a online character sheet that can be accessed by everyone and be easily tracked?

...where in Sweden did you find this, if I may ask?

Science Fiction Bokhandeln (bookstore) in Gothenburg.

You can see the availability here:

    https://www.sfbok.se/produkt/collapse-of-the-republic-194753

To have a book not available for post order or in the other cities is super unusual. I wonder if they made a super special deal to have the book exclusively in Gothenburg or if it was a mistake.

  12. I wasn't expecting this to be out in a store here I Sweden but it sure was a welcoming surprise.

The classes feel more advanced and I'm not sure if these are okay for an early-era of the clone wars.

I don't remember which page it was but they had one piece of artwork that looked really bad/lazy. The one with an AT-TE and the three stock footages of clone troopers near it's legs. I felt that one was very jarring.

  13. Clone Wars ships. I've been waiting for so long for them to announce it yet. With the release of Clone Wars for Legion, my hopes are high. But mostly because of the various CIS naval ships since the Republic really don't have as many or varied. They are in a bit of same problem with Empire: a bunch of triangles. CIS, however, I would die for to own.

Sequel era ships are not as interesting to me.

People have been raving on about playing 'real' Jedi since the beta for EotE. If the book was crammed with Republic AND Separatist content, the forums would be filled with complaints that Jedi weren't fleshed out enough and pages were 'wasted' on the CIS content.

They may well be saving CIS content for a Late War/'Fall of the Republic' book. As per the book's title, the art exclusively being Phase I armour and presumably the lack of a stated Grevous I'm still holding to that popular theory. We're probably getting Genosians because the planet is a major focus at the literal start of the war and again shortly into it, but not much afterwards.

One can only hope that is their plan. But even if they would make a part 2 I doubt it would have much separatist contents. Because they are "the bad guys".

But yes, of course I agree that the existing material would be enough to portray them. I would argue that every class except the Jedi classes are not necessary with that same argument.

Why I am a bit mopey about this is because they talk so big about how much of a struggle it is from both sides, the whole "heroes on both sides", but they clearly are favoring one; the atypical good guys Reps and showering them with classes and lore and goodness. This is also sad because there are material today from the show to portray the CIS as more than villains. Heck, there is an episode with the same name on it. They want to leave a government they believe is corrupt and faulty, not very different from the rebels in later times.

In don't like the "branded classes" such as Republic Representative or Retired Clone Trooper. Because that implies there is a very small nisch of what that character has to be. They could easily just remove that. The retired clone trooper could just be "Retired Soldier", giving room for the character to be a retired clone, militiaman, separatist (organic or otherwise), senate commando, etc. But no, you have to be human and you have to be a clone.

But the GM can easily just do that themselves without doing it official. I know. I love this game and franchise so that is why I care. :P

  15. "Heroes on both sides", but mostly one side.

The Geonosian feels like the one odd out. I mean, the other three it is more believable within the line of being a republican. The umbaran weren't Separatists until later in the war and can fittingly be a republic representative.

But the Geonosian? Yeah, sure, it's the "scavenger". Perfect.

Else it opens up the door of weird fanfiction territory.

"My character is Nick Nack. He was a Geonosian worker before the clone wars. He hated being a low-class worker so he fled and joined the secret clone training program and became a Clone Trooper with custom made armor just for him. But he eventually got removed, which upset him very much, so he formed a one-man union as a republic representative for Geonosians right to fight for the republic."

Or he became a Jedi, although there had never been a Force using Geonosian reported but I guess that is plausible. But then I think they should've chosen a more fitting separatists species for that like Koorivar. Or heck, a Zygerrian could fit better with all factions as it could be Jedi, scoundrel or separatist.
