  1. What:: GASPcon 16 Where:: Monroeville Convention Center, South Main hall When:: November 6th through 8th Player pre-registration is now open. Event sign-ups start Sept 19th. GASPcon is entering its 16th year, and we are celebrating by continuing with a 3rd day of gaming (Friday) that we started several years ago. Pre-registration price is just $35 USD for the entire weekend. GASPcon runs 24hrs a day from opening till close (6pm on Sunday). We will also continue to accept credit card payments at the convention through Square. To register for the convention and to see a preliminary event list, go to the following link. https://warhorn.net/events/gaspcon-16 Board games will be running all weekend long, and with our extensive and free board game library, you can check-out a different game every time you sit down to play. There will also be a board game demo team on-hand to teach you how to play several select games donated to the club by retailers. We are also working with several game developers and offering them free space in our dealers' room (see below) to highlight their games. There is also a mix of Role-playing games running throughout the weekend. There are both independent publisher games, as well as your favorite D&D and Star Wars RPGs. The RPGA will also be running Living FR all weekend long, with first-run events for the living campaign. Your favorite CCG's will also get some play, with several Magic events being held throughout the weekend. We had an explosion of miniature event submissions this year, so there are many other events scheduled throughout the weekend, including Frag-A-Rama, You Sunk my Battleship (AA War at Sea), Bolt Action, Sails of Glory, X-Wing, and more. GASPcon will see the return of the outstanding Classic BattleTech Poker Run on Saturday, where the object is to collect poker cards by killing your opponents, and the winner is the player with the best hand. Sunday is the featured Signature Miniatures Event, which this year will be a version of Battletech: Alpha Strike using the Robotech Tactics miniatures. 10 players will battle on and over Macross Island, as the Zentradi and UDF struggle for control of the precious Protoculture! For our Star Wars fans we have 3 Imperial Assault events and 2 X-Wing events. Both X-Wing events will have prize support, as well as at least one of the Imperial Assault events. Note – We continue to receive new event submissions and will be posting RPGA events in the coming weeks so remember to check the registration site for updates. Return of the Silent Auction The silent auction returns again for GASPcon. Whether you are a buyer or seller, you'll find plenty going on with the auction. See the following thread for full details. The #1 suggestion each and every year was the need to have a dealers’ room at GASPcon, and we are delivering on that request. We were able to add-on the enclosed space beside our main hall, which we will utilize for both our vendors and demo games. This gives us over 12,000 sq ft of space for this purpose. In addition to the dealer, the Pennsylvania Coin Operated Gaming Hall of Fame and Museum will be attending this year, and will have 2 games available for free play all weekend, including the classic dungeon explorer Gauntlet! 3. GASPcon is this weekend, with open gaming all weekend long (sadly no Star Wars LCG scheduled events.) If you're in the area, stop by to game, or just say hi. Ask for Don (me). Say "Star Wars Rocks!", and get $5 off the onsite weekend admission price! Thanks,

  5. I wanted to post an update to GASPcon. We were notified on the 17th of October by the hotel that they would not be able to honor our original dates, as their renovation hit another delay. We have been scrambling to find an alternate venue or cancel GASPcon. We were able to secure the South Main hall in the Monroeville Convention Center. This 23,000 sq ft space is nearly 4x the size of our previous location. The dates are unchanged, and we will maintain the 24/7 operating times as well. Great news for GASPcon indeed. There are plenty of hotels very close to the convention center, and food options are abundant. We will continue to accept pre-registrations now that we have a new venue. Thanks, Don

  13. I agree that's fun. But once you get into the 5-6 hours drive range, it becomes a two day affair. Are these events worth it at that point? I think you are going to see a lot of players say no, when a 2-3 hour drive wouldn't cause the same issue. Should Vegas, that only had one local player for their SC, really be holding a Regional? That's in addition to the issues they caused last year at their Regional. Many of the venue choices don't make sense. FFG had an opportunity to use SCs as a survey to gauge where their player base really is and allocate Regionals in accordance with that. Instead they drew arbitrary lines and in many cases picked fairly arbitrary locations to host the events. I agree, our gaming club (GASP) held the X-Wing Regional last year, 20 players attended. We held 4 SC this year, 12 came out for SW LCG, 19 for X-Wing, 2 for AGoT, and Netrunner is next weekend. I'm glad a Pittsburgh store got the X-Wing regional, but they had less attendance to all their SC than us, and I didn't see any way to even report the event back to FFG anyway. They stated the SC would be used to determine Regionals, but I don't see it. We dropped $60 per SC (which we didn't make back BTW) so that we would have a better chance at a Regional. Granted we are a club not a store, but what does it matter if we draw more players to the games. Isn't that the whole intent? The closest SW LCG is Morgantown, which isn't worth it for me. Plus I feel that by travelling I'm promoting the poor organized play model FFG has. This whole experience left a sour taste with our club regarding FFG's organized play, so I won't be apply for any events next year.
  14. Here are 2 Hoth decks I built. Rebels 2x Hoth Operations (The Desolation of Hoth - 38) 1x Echo Base Defense (Desolation of Hoth - 39) 1x Sensors Are Placed (The Search For Skywalker - 43) 2x Preparation for Battle (The Search For Skywalker - 45) 2x Attack Pattern Delta (The Battle of Hoth - 59) 2x A Hero's Resolve (Escape from Hoth - 64) [EDIT: Navy deck modified] Imperial Navy 1x Imperial Command (Core Set - 26) 1x Lord Vader's Command (The Desolation of Hoth - 41) 1x Deploy the Fleet (The Search For Skywalker - 46) 2x A Dark Time for the Rebellion (A Dark Time - 51) 2x The General's Imperative (Assault on Echo Base - Na_56) 1x Sabotage in the Snow (Assault on Echo Base - N_58) 2x Unstoppable Advance (The Battle of Hoth - Na_63) They work well against each other, but may not be very competitive against other decks. Enjoy,
  15. I'd love to come up and play, but we're hosting a St. Patrick's Day party that day. Thanks, Don
  16. I'll post the top 4 lists later. General results the final tournament point totals for the top 4 were tight: 25, 20, 18, 16. A bunch at 15, a few at 10, and one person with 0. As the tournament organizer, I awarded the extra range ruler to the last place finisher. We gave away just over $120 in prizes, above and beyond the kit items. This was all raffled off so that everyone had a chance to win. Players received 1 extra raffle ticket for every loss they recorded, and could buy extras if desired. All that plus free drinks for only a $5 entry fee. Everyone had a blast, and we'll be running Game Night kit events for each season in the future. Thanks,, Don
  17. Awesome turn-out yesterday, 19 players in all competed. Only 1 player had to leave, and that was after he played 4 of the 5 rounds. I posted the pictures on our Meetup site. Thanks, Don
  18. I'm going to close the Meetup RSVPs Saturday morning @ 8am. After that it will on-site registrations only. Regardless if you pre-reg'd or not, please arrive around 11am so your squad lists can be reviewed and other paperwork can be completed. We'll have a long day, so we'll start the actual tournament promptly at noon. We are currently at 16 players, with a few more expected to register on-site. Thanks, Don
  19. I went in today to update my profile since I bought a few new FFG games, and this option is no longer there. There is still a tutorial on how to access it though. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_nrep.asp?eidm=44 When and why was this removed? Thanks, Don
