Thank you both for your replies. I like Vehem's idea of costs and I was already considering going with a similar idea to the ammo drops. Have you run ammo like this in your own games, and how did it go?

I’m going to be running a Deathwatch game this September (hopefully depending on whether the book I want to use to run it has come out by then). I’d like to keep the requisition system, and since it’s mostly self-contained from the rest of the rules that hasn’t been too much of a problem.
The issue I’m having is how much clips of standard ammunition should cost. I know the Errata says that in general a character should have 3 clips per weapon, but I think it’s likely players will want to requisition more (especially if they think they are going to be facing a long or combat-heavy mission). How much should be charged in requisition points per extra clip?

We wants it my precious!
Sorry, wrong game system. But we does! Maybe not *quite* enough to be biting fingers, but not much less.

I was just wondering how people are planning on handling the relic weapons if they are planning on using the errata’ed weapon damage tables. Personally I’m torn – on the one hand keeping them RAW will make them attractive and also get across the key 40K idea about technology (that old is good). On the other hand they might now be too good for the price.
How are other people planning on handling this?

Balodek they didn’t reprint any, but there are a ton of new ones. And the weapons are in line with the original damage totals. As for the Ork weapons I’m lucky enough to own a print copy of Creatures Anaethama so I figured that since most of the stats are similar I’d just use those (18 for a slugga, 30 for a shoota, and maybe 60 for a double shoota used by the meganobz).

Got this a couple of days ago and it is absolutely excellent! It seems to have largely avoided the ‘Curse of Fantasy Flight’, the only obvious errors are that some of the orks weapons don’t have clip sizes listed.
It has a major write up for Tau and Tyranids, covering almost everything of both sides that wasn’t in the main book (with the odd exception). They are well-balanced and look like they could give Kill-teams a proper challenge (especially with the new weapon statistics). The Tau section includes write-ups for just about every type of Kroot.
There are a bunch of new ‘solo’ aliens also.
The Heretics and forces of chaos sections are both quite short by comparison; the heretics one has a couple of named characters and a bunch of nasty Samech constructions and the Chaos one has stats for greater and lesser demons and for specialist chaos marines (beserkers, sorcerers and noise marines).
The final chapter contains a series of new horde traits, and a short system for running mass battles.

The problem with that is that it says the same thing about the relics and the Ultramarines-only storm bolter (Urion’s Doom I think it’s called?) in that only does 2d10 + 5 damage, same as the regular issue one. I’d also be inclined to have the Hesh be requisitionable at the Distinguished level, since a beginning marine won’t be able to requisition that sort of gear (I do agree with you that a starting marine shouldn’t be able to get one). As for the number of requisition points it should cost maybe 32 or there about?

The reply I got was that they'd address this stuff in the next errata update. I just didn't have any idea when that would be, and thought it was likely that I'd be needing an answer before then. But thank you for the answers both of you, that's very helpful.

Hello there
I’ve just started GM’ing Deathwatch, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I have a few questions which I haven’t been able to work out myself. They haven’t come up yet but I suspect that they might.
The first is about unnatural characteristics and the fact that they give you a bonus degree of success. What I need to know is does this bonus degree of success only count if you actually *pass* the check?
E.g. A space marine is making a strength test and fails by less than one degree. Does he in fact pass the check (with no degrees of success) or does he still fail?
The second question is about signature wargear. When getting an upgraded version of a bit of standard issue equipment, do you have to buy the bit of equipment out of the points granted by the talent as well as the upgrade, or do you just have to buy the upgrade?
E.g. A marine wants to use the signature wargear talent to buy a master-crafted bolt pistol. Does this cost him 5 points (Pistol costs 5 so doubled that would normally be 10, but he already has the pistol so it costs 5) or 10 (pistol costs 5 times 2 equals 10)?
The third question is about the Deathwatch Champion from Rites of Battles special ability. Does the ability to kill an enemy who fails a toughness test only work on an opponent whose *current* wounds are lower than the Champion’s starting wounds or does it only work on an enemy whose *starting* wounds are lower than the Champion’s starting wounds?
Thanks in advance

I’d say the Hesh should be available to any Deathwatch marine, that’s what the background text implies. With regard to how much it costs to requisition and what level I’d be very interested to see what others here have to say (I only started GM’ing Deathwatch recently and this is my first exposure to the system). Maybe Distinguished for the level (it seems a bit more effective and flexible than the specialist bolters like the Stalker which are Respected level)? Also presumably it’s damage should be 2d10 +7 (since it is always master-crafted)?
And blast 5 for the Hopper sounds about right to me.

Question about ammunition
in Deathwatch House Rules

One idea which was shown in the latest Deathwatch novel (which I'd really recommend) was when the Kill-team on it was on a mission into a massive Genestealer nest to retrieve an Inquisition agent. As they were descending they set up several caches of extra ammo (as well as booby traps). It leant this nice note of tension - do we have enough ammo to fend off this wave and can we then get to the next RP to restock before they catch us?
