Well of course the RAW has problems with it. The sad truth is that no matter how good the RAW is it will never be able to 100% replicate what we see in the movies. So how would I deal with this? I wouldn't even create the situation in the first place. And I'd also understand that the mechanics will never be able to 100% do what we see on the screen. Some actions just occur due to narrative nature.

In this case both Yoda and Dooku are NPC's. So I wouldn't even bother with rolls and would just narrate the entire scene as Dooku escapes.

I forgot which poster posted this but it's something I like because I don't like the way languages are handled by this system.

My money is that Vaapad will be a Conflict talent in the Juyo tree. But yeah the most likely book is Warrior.

Though I hope it's not a long wait on Juyo, it's one of the forms I was more interested in.

To the best of my knowledge Jar Kari isn't one of the seven basic forms. The missing 7th is Juyo.

Yeah, as far as this game is concerned colour is up to the players to decide and not tied to the crystal.

Yeah ..... see ..... I wouldn't need this house rule to fix that problem. I'd fix it by having Vader show up. If you're selling lightsabre crystals for 10k you're just asking to be killed by Vader.

Problem solved. No need for house rules.

Actually Tarkin features into my plans as he remains a prominent threat. But yeah, I'm trying to gauge general level of resistance to the Empire once it can just blow apart whole planets at a whim. I want things to be desperate but not so desperate that resistance is pointless.

I'm in the rough outline phase of planning a campaign and I wanted to do a Rebels game in which the Death Star wasn't destroyed. In this timeline Han doesn't come back just in the nick of time to save Luke so he gets taken out by Vader. Vader sensing there is another Force user on Yavin halts the attack of the main gun and instead leads an assault on the base, capturing several rebels including Leia, which he will later turn to the darkside. After the assault Yavin 4 is destroyed as a show of continued force and the rebels spend the next year on the run as a result of intel that the Empire gets from Leia being turned.

So for the first season of the campaign the players are going to be tasked with finding aid for the Alliance (among other activities). But my question then becomes is it logical for planets to still want to side with the rebels if the Death Star is in use? I want the situation to be desperate but would the active threat of your planet being atomized result in the rebels not being able to find aid and assistance anywhere?

Yeah ....see ..... you can keep that flavor .... and not give them a FR or a Force power. As I said, you just say they see as a normal PC would but instead of seeing using eyes they see using the Force. You tack on some additional benefit, like being able to see targets through walls or not being blinded by blinding effects or being able to see through fog or smoke screen or something and it's still in keeping with the Miraluka.

You make mention of the Iktochi .....but you'll notice they are not given a FR nor are they given an actual Force power. They have a minor pre cog ability that is highly dependent on the GM to activate (as opposed to actually having real pre cog abilities that a Force power would grant). So there isn't much precedent for giving them a power. Just aspects of a power. Which is what I proposed initially anyway.

Like I said I could be misremembering the talents in question. They sounded like the ones that were used for the other Conflict talents presented in the splat books.

I would say that it is in fact just a gimmick. I don't recall them ever being portrayed as not being able to function just as well as a normal sighted being. They are able to pilot, and it seems read and write, with no real problems. So for the most part it is just a bit of gimmick fluff that makes them different from the other human looking species out there.

I think Cunning is a bad stat to lower to 1. Based on what we know of Sith society I'd expect that be the one thing that would be at least 2 if not 3. Have you considered lowering Presence instead?

I will never get people's insistence on creating the  Miraluka in such a way as to have them unbalanced and cheesy. All in the name of what exactly? Not sure. But no matter how often their Force sight could be represented without giving them an unbalancing mechanic people stll insist that it's the way to go. I'm glad the devs don't take these things so literally and have found creative ways to represent flavor without breaking mechanics (like they did with Hutts)

Kael got a reaction from Eoen in Is there an option to buy the rule books as a PDF
People can already pirate the books. FFG not making the pdfs hasn't slowed down the pirating of this game in the least. The only real harm that's being done by not being able to do it is that they are losing money from people who would otherwise buy their products legally. PDF's overall are a great thing. I personally enjoy having PDF's (in addition to hard copies) so that I can carry my gaming library with me at all times. I load them up on my tablet and if I find myself having free time away from home I can open one of my gaming books and read to my hearts content.

Also I'm glad that for the most part the days of dragging around heavy ...... heavy ........ heavy bags of gaming books are coming to an end for the most part. It's so much easier on my back to carry a tablet as opposed to having to lug around heavy books.

That's not to say pdf's are for everyone, but they should be available for those who want them. I hope that at some point FFG is able to negotiate something that will let them make pdfs.

To be perfectly honest Cunning can apply to any martial art form. You can build a case for pretty much every form to involve X trait. Trying to break a fighting form down to "this one represents cunning and this one represents intelligence" is reductive in the extreme and is only viable in terms of discussion for the rpg mechanics. Once we move from rpg mechanics to how people use real world martial arts that level of simplicity flies out the window.

No tree is all Conflict talents. And while Juyo is aggressive it isn't something that would be generating Conflict just buy using any of it's many talents. One or two yeah, but the concepts behind Juyo push for a more focused form of combat. If left unchecked you can go to far, and that should be represented in key talents being Conflict talents, but not an entire spec full of them.  If Juyo were to have a talent that gave you Conflict though I think they would rightly name it Vaapad.

Well they've already created the other forms. I imagine that if they had created 7 careers they would have gone with all 7 of the canon combat forms. But since they went through the time and trouble to create the other 6 it is only logical to expect them to do Juyo too at some point. And as Donovan points out, what you speak of is an aspect of one of the forms already created. What we are talking about here though is a complete and separate form. It's reasonable to expect Juyo, but by that same token we don't likely expect an entire tree for say Vapaad. Much like Djem So, which is an aspect of Form V, if Vaapad makes into the game it would be rolled into an aspect of Juyo.

Also the game has already broadened fighting styles somewhat. The Armor from Keepers of the Peace is a lightsabre combatesque fighting style. It mixes making armor with lightsabre combat to some extent but there is now president to think that they are going to expand beyond the 6 fighting forms in the book.

    Edit

There's one solid reason why it was likely not broken into two separate trees. Space. There are a lot of Force based concepts that they will want to cover. So they can't sink too many specs into just combat trees. If you start breaking down aspects of a main form into it's sub forms people expect a lot of those. To some extent we may see one or two of these. But overall with only 6 careers and 6 specializations for a grand total of 36 you have to ask how much time does FFG really want to devote to lightsabre combat? Obviously they want to devote some time because at present we have 7 specs that one can take to work on lightsabre combat. However I don't imagine they are going to do more than one to three more forms.

They have a lot of other Force concepts they'll want to bring into the game.

This has gotten rather pointless. Tramp is employing mechanical concepts that don't even apply to this game to justify his position. So long as he's doing that there is going to be no reasoning with him. I think we've reached the point where any productive conversation that could have been had has been had.

I suspect the prevailing theory is that we are far more likely to see Canon species than species that currently only exist in the EU.

I think the Cathar would be excellent in the Warrior book but sadly Absol has brought me over to her way of thinking on what will and will not make it into the books as far as species are concerned.
