Having played without meta crit stacking for a very long time, I have to say that Black Knight moments aren't the norm, and when they do, they're generally pretty awesome.
The moderately severe crits makes you very vulnerable in DH, and unless you want to seriously bog down combat, you're going to houserule that anyone who isn't a PC and lacks the Touched By Fate Trait, die the second they hit 0HP.
    ...
We're using an Inquisified injury system these days, but I'm actually not all that happy with it. It handles humans and similar fantastically well, but it becomes overly complicated for things that are very unlike humans.
But I'm counting on a friend to come up with something with more high-Toughness flexibility that's less humanoid-centric. Because I'm sick and tired of messing with the injury system.

Hmm... maybe another Rule might address that point:

"Once you have rolled for damage, the result of the Damage-Dice may be modified by +1 per Degree of Success on the Attack Role. Please note the Maximum Damage of 10 of one Dice can not be surpassed by this and Rigtheous Fury is only triggered by natural 10's. Should the Weapon have multiple Damage-Dice through any special Rules (Accurate or simply the Damage of the Weapon) this Additional Damage can be applied to any of the Dice. This increase in Damage is applied after any dice are discarded as per the tearing-special quality."

It requires to keep in mind the DoS, but overall it'd make bad luck on good and very good attack-roles a bit less important, while still using the damage-cap as a hard limit on how much a weapon can inflict.

Another thing just came to mind: for his next character, have him write one page or so of a mock-up. Where has his character lived, what has he been up to, who's his family, some key-events in his character's history... maybe that'll help him to get more into the mindset of being a roleplayer

Then it would be a case of the system not being consistent, wouldn't it? Degrees of Failure/Success do make an action better or worse in literally any other Test, after all.

We dont also roll 1d10 to see how well we pull off a Test in Scholastic Lore after having succeeded on Int. The only reason we do this for attacks is because of a weird sort of industry standard maintained by 99% of all RPGs. "This is how D&D did it! We must slavishly adhere to this!"

Which kind of disqualifies your point regarding an intentional lack of connection between the d100 roll and the final damage - unless you are judging the issue differently depending on the game you're playing?

Although I would say that the "swap DoS for damage" is still a rather poor representation of an exceptional shot/blow, given how there's something of a fifty-fifty chance to surpass the best possible result of the Test out of pure randomness. But it's certainly better than DH RAW, that much is true.

We've been using that so far, only rebalanced to 5 AP for ordinary mortals and 7+ AP being Defence Skill territory only.

... I should really post out house rules, such as they are, at Dark Reign. It's just... It's like.. Probably more than 30 separate documents right now.

Not me, sorry. -But I am considering using the Action Point system from the first DH2Beta on my (hypothetical) next WH40KRP campaign. Basically swap out the current "2 Half Actions or 1 Full Action, plus 1 Reaction" with "You have 3 Action Points- spend them however you want."

After having a look I decided to structure all efforts into one xls sheet and share it in a new link here:

have a look at the second sheet. It contains a glossary

although I have to admit that I haven't figured out yet what W and TLW are. The original authors also don't mention them in their overview.

    Hi,

'Part Time Supervillain', 'Jargal' and 'Green Knight' created this awesome thread and index:
    http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/68791-encyclopaedia-calixia/

It did however got a bit messy and not really user friendly so I poured the lot into an excel sheet, restructured it, edited it (with some info from the wiki) and finally uploaded it as a google doc:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KVQsLEWdsEjhyC-3BKx1TsV7EqVsHvCZTddv4yzoCSk/edit?usp=sharing

This doc is accessible and editable by anyone with the link so feel free to update it when required.

You might note that with multiple planetary references, each reference got its own line. This so you can easily filter when required.

    Check it out.

edit: and yes I FU on the title, I mixed up two threads. The topic should have said:
Encyclopedia Galaxia - Structured... ah well, this too is a helpful index.

This thread is really perplexing. Why is a guy who came in spouting ignorant nonsense and then admitted to not knowing what he was talking about getting the kid gloves? This guy should be laughed at mercilessly for posting such a crappy post.

Nice subtle inference that D&D 4E was a cash grab and not an in-earnest attempt at making a better version of the game. Got any internal WotC corporate memos you can share about how to maximally bilk gamers out of their money with a game designed to screw the consumer?

Just because you disagree with him does not mean his point holds no merit, or that "anyone and everyone" felt attacked by his posts. Indeed, careful reading may have yielded that several posters actually "liked" them, which might constitute support.

As far as I'm concerned, it's no more or less stupid than an attack doing minimum damage after the best possible attack roll.

But then, it's the exact same problem mechanically: the system throws up what looks like important information during step one in a process, but this seemingly important information isn't carried over into subsequent steps in the process.

"I hit with lethal accuracy." Except you didn't.
"I caused localised damage." Except you didn't.

Fortunately houseruling that Crits only stack on a Locational basis doesn't have a drastic impact on the game balance. It makes goons a little weaker, and PCs & BBEGs a bit stronger. Which pretty much cancels each other out.

It took our group a very long time to realise all Crits stack, and since we thought that was ridiculous, we never started doing it the RAW way. And in... 2½-3 years of gaming, doing it the wrong way worked perfectly well.

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that the new rules 'rely more on miniatures' than the DH1 rules (not least of all because the final DH2 rules aren't out yet, and what we do know of them is that they are heavily based on Only War, which is no more mini-reliant than any other WH40KRP game) but your point that FFG will be selling WH40KRP minis is wildly inaccurate. FFG (and other liscensees of WH40K intellectual property) are contractually forbidden from putting out miniatures that might compete with official Citadel miniatures (that's why the Relic board game, for instance, uses 'busts' of characters as counters instead of true miniatures).

'Why a DH Second Edition?' Because DH1 was the first game in the WH40KRP line, and as such was predictably filled with bugs and glitches that have been refined throughout the later games, to the point that it now feels a bit clunky and outdated. So, an updating of the popular WH40KRP 'flagship' game is pretty much common sense, in my opinion.

Beyond Adeptus-B's interpretation (which I share), I think it is also fairly obvious that it was never intended to stack. I think in this situation, if it would've, it would be odd to not clarify that it did.

Also, there's the obvious issue with this racking up way too fast. After all, there's a lot of traits that are common amongst a lot of people within certain spheres of influence. Mutations amongst cultists, for example.

The way these types of Talents are written, it is pretty obviously assumed that they don't stack. Further, it would do very bad things to the game balance if they did. Finally, RAW states that whether one of these types of Talents apply is always down to the GM.
So yeah, what Adeptus-B & Fgdsfg said
Personally I would expect a character with a Talent like Hatred to reflect that hatred in their actions, before I would give them the modifier.

My ruling would be 'no'. The Hatred Talent is supposed to represent overwhelming, barely-contained emotion- far beyond the standard "I hate people who shoot at me!"-type hatred; so I don't think it should be 'double-able'.

Alright, another part is... not quite finished, but playable, The infamous Tomb of Horrors

It has been merged with another Adventure (A Dead Hulk, number 4 in the list) for reasons of practicality. The Tomb of Horror itself is... not quite up to the level of the rest of the adventures, it still needs some more polishing and a few more events so it becomes less of a dungeon-crawl to avoid traps, but I'll just put it up here already, when you have some nasty/nice ideas fitting to the adventures, feel free to post them... next project will probably be a few modifications on Dead Stars, especially the Mirror-Doors... hell, I simply FRIGGIN LOVE that sequence... gonna be so much fun actually playing that

After that, I'll rig up the "Carnival of Madness", "Dancing on the Threshold" and "Pilgrimage to Terra" Adventures and once they are finished (maybe earlier), I'll drastically reduce my writing speed since after Church of the Damned I can use a lot of fillers using Deathwatch to depict the Shadow War against the Slaught (culminating in the Purge of Vigil), Only War to show the war against the troops of the False Saint (Totally gonna make a section focusing on the Adeptus Mechanicus and a few Titan Battles in one of those fillers... something I really want to show my players) and Black Crusade to show what is going on on the other side... since not every Chaos-Worshiper is on the side of the False Saint... Emperor, this War alone has the potential of a good dozen of campaigns and adventures. I almost feel sorry for Duke Severus, who uses the Events to declare his secession... he will be pretty much a player from the sidelines, unless the players decide to get more involved with him.

Alright, after a few lazy days, the next installment is ready:

Fleshtraders. It adheres to my new principles of being more of a Framework. The basic idea of this module is being very... modular and work as an introduction into Tattered Fates which isn't quite so harsh. The effects will be roughly the same, but the transition will be smoother.

The Adventure itself also allows for further plot-hooks and conspiracies and might well be used as an inspiration outside of my Haarlock-Saga Campaign. Direct Link

Oh, and it'd also be nice getting a bit more feedback for those adventures, since currently I'm kinda... in an opinion-vacuum of some sort where I do what I think is cool (all nice and dandy) but I think some 3rd-party-ideas might make it even better^^

Anyway, thanks for everyone following this thread, keeps me a lot more motivated

Edit: Wow, second page and third written adventure. Guess I'll hand everyone a glass of Amasec...
*Puts down a few hundred glasses of Amasec on a table somewhere around here*

"For all those who came in late..." - Lee Falke

    Hi All,

It's been ages since I posted anything on this forum, but I am still alive and GMing.

Recently I decided to give my long term Dark Heresy players (The Search For Victory crew) a chance to Respec their characters.  During the process of which I got to thinking that I really need to make a list of where and what every alternate rank is for Dark Heresy.

So I decided to compile a list and share it with everyone.  While I was making an Index of the Alternate Ranks I also saw, so many Minor Psychic Powers that I had forgotten as well as many other pieces of information.  From their my Index grew and grew and once I had finished I decided to make my way through all the other books.

    Explanation aside...

Here is a Index of things I found useful to have a quick reference for.  IT IS AN INCOMPLETE LIST for starters it doesn't cover any of the adventure modules and rule additions contained within.  It also tends to only have a few references to things in the Core rules and any material referenced should be consulted directly this is in no way a complete list of the requirements for the options indexed.

    What this is not:

This is not a cheat-sheet, it is not designed to replace any of the books, it is just a Name and an index as well as a semi-thematic description of whatever is listed.

What the Dark Heresy Index covers:

The Dark Heresy 1st Edition portion of the index covers several things.  First it covers all the Home Worlds and variations their off as well as the single Background Package specifically tied to the Feral World.  It breaks down all the Background Packages and Alternate Career Ranks by Career as well as which Ascension Careers can be directly tied to them as well as presenting a Revised Experience Progression for the Career based on the new rank amounts listed in Ascension.

After the Careers are covered it then lists All the Elite Advance Packages and Cell Directives covered in the Dark Heresy line as well as a single Elite Advance from Rogue Trader which indicates it can work directly in a Dark Heresy game.

Finally the index lists all the new Psychic Powers covered in supplementary books.  These are organized into Minor Psychic Powers and Disciplines

In addition, the Index also covers the other 1st edition Warhammer 40k RPG game lines and provides similar Indexing for the other lines to varying degrees.

    Where Is The Index

You can find the Index at the following link, it is a view only Google Sheet.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmtQWHK__dbHdHNRZ3pNenh3ZzhsNHdWQnlaOU1KRGc&usp=drive_web#gid=0

For those with Google you should be able to save a copy of the sheet for your own use.  For those who wish to see an Addendum to the Index or have comments/suggestions please leave a message in this thread.

I hope this can be of some assistance to everyone.

    Enjoy!

    - Raith

p.s. Please ignore any and all spelling mistakes cause I'm sure their are plenty.
