  1. Any word on an expansion as this thread is 2 years old?
  2. Iron the mat with medium heat? Steam or no steam?
  3. Jake yet again said: Good god, I wish we could sticky this question. Anyway, Dunwich Horror is the best big box set. Kingsport is easiest and Innsmouth is hardest. You'll probably want either Dunwich or Innsmouth to start with as they give you extra locations for gates to open at. don't get Miskatonic Horror until you have at least 4 other official expansions Small box expansion is trickier: Curse of the Dark Pharaoh gives you a new class of cards (Exhibit cards), King in Yellow is probably most balanced in terms of theme, Black Goat of the Woods for extra monsters (but the cult itself is rubbish) or Lurker at the Threshold for extra gates. My preference is CotDP, but you can make a decent argument for all of them. More significantly, if you're tight on funds, grab some of the custom material out there! Here is a small list you should seriously consider downloading: Simple Additions These links require no extra material to play. You can download them, print them out and you're ready to go. FFG Free Material: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/71859/promotional-ancient-ones 16 Custom Investigators: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/50107/16-custom-investigators Nyarlathotep Heralds: http://s622.photobucket.com/albums/tt307/avi_dreader/Additional%20Components%20for%20the%20Fan%20Creation%20League/?start=all Large Expansions These expansions are "big box" expansions. They're probably the best bang for your buck, containing new boards, new cards and new challenges. Whilst that sounds like a lot of work remember that Arkham is modular so you can often include some cards and disregard others. For instructions on how to manufacture the boards, read this excellent article: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/832608/constructing-custom-expansion-boards-for-arkham Lovecraft Country Horror: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/65090/lovecraft-country-horror-rules-and-board (See my sig for more details) Vermont Horror: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/127198/vermont-horror-expansion-fan-expansion-for-arkham Arkham Nightmare: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/796568/arkham-nightmare-dreamlands-expansion/page/1 Board Expansions with Scenarios These expansion include a new board for use with a specific scenario. As such the replay value may be impacted, but they may be worth downloading nonetheless. The Haunted House: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/47628/haunted-house The Masks of Nyarlathotep: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/821899/masks-of-nyarlathotep-available-to-download-from Koth of Hyboria: http://plaidscape.net/downloads/arkham/Spanish2/Sc6Images.zip Expansion Specific Material These expansions preusme that you own at least one other expansion, either Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (for the first two) or Innsmouth Horror (for the last one. The Gilman Memorial Exhibit: http://cgjennings.ca/eons/samples/gilman.html Curse of the Gold Scarab: http://megaupload.com/?d=W0LT60Z0 Dark Corners of this Earth: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/67259/dark-corners-of-the-earth Other Resources For additional material, check out the fan creations protion of this forum, the FFG leagues and the Spanish leagues. This is incredible. I got all giddy when I saw Brown Jenkin
  4. heh I played Black Goat of the Woods last night for the first time, with three rookies. First off, the three new guys are all addicted already....go figure. We played with the Black Goat Herald paired with Ithaqua and just like your guys' game, we squeaked by. In fact, all my one investigator was devoured and it came down to a last roll. If he would have not succeeded in the last roll, he would have been devoured. The guy that stayed alive also had 9/16 Corruption Cards on him...hahahaha. It was fairly entertaining. One guy was a cult member, but he did not deal with any cult encounters the whole game. We had THE TERRIBLE EXPERIMENT out, so a lot of attention was focused on that for the bulk of the game. I remember reading a lot of negativety about Black Goat of the Woods, but after one play of it, I think I like it better than the King in Yellow. Cheers
  5. You guys rule. I very well may spend my entire deployment reading nothing buy 40K literature. I wonder if this is a bad thing that I plan to read nothing but points of view of Chaos while being in the military, myself, fighting a war.
  6. No problem, thanks for the post. I will pick those up. I am getting ready to deploy to the Middle East so I will have a lot of reading ahead of me.
  7. I have never played 40K; I've just only watched it play. I am truly interested in getting down with some Black Crusade, but I feel I don't have the knowledge background on this world as some of the posters here do. What are some recommended books, wikis, etc that I could get spun up on?
  8. All I know is that I went to Free RPG Day just to get the Pathfinder We Be Goblins adventure and when I saw the Black Crusade module my eyes grew large with passion. I just moved a few months ago and where I was at before, I had an RPG group. It might take a while before I get a group going, but I was considering Dark Heresy when a group does come together. Now that I see Black Crusade and perused the module a little, I think I want this. I still need to get familiar with the rules. I may even consider running the game even though I prefer to be a player instead of a game master. The thought of spreading chaos throughout the universe gets me all giddy inside. Sorry, I may have added nothing to the tidbits that you requested, but my wife seemed to not care about this at all.
  9. I am a huge fan of Arkham Horror. I have wasted many hours of my life trying to keep the courage from having to face Hastur and Yog-Sothoth. I have not played Mansions of Madness, yet, but I am hearing that it can get predictable. I am sure an expansion or two might solve this. I am not trying to beat this new game down at all. I haven't played it, I don't know how it is. Looking through the FFG page on it, I see reused artwork from Arkham Horror and I even see a section title MADNESS AND HORROR or something of that nature. (Mansions of)MADNESS and (Arkham) HORROR. I just hope FFG doesn't waste efforts into kicking out a medicore game thinking it'll sell like crazy because it has the ARKHAM HORROR stamp on it. I want this game to be good. Just FFG, please don't rush this. Take your time.
  10. King in Yellow is the only expansion that I own and have played. I have never won with it, but I have enjoyed every game with it, also. The Doom Track is so screwed when you play with the King in Yellow.
  11. Its going to eventually get the ARKHAM HORROR logo and any further information about the game will be full of cryptic puzzles Blood Bowl: Team Arkham Horror
  12. I am sure someone can/will homebrew up some rules for it. I've never played the tabletop game, but if I had it so I could understand the rules. But once this gets released, whenever that is, we should get a comprehensive homebrew thread going here to try and merge the two.
  13. Gotcha! I was hoping to find another player up here. Then again, when I get Arkham Horror Saturday's going at the local comic shop here, I will CREATE new players.
