I agree with Siranui although not as strongly. As an old school DA fan, I like working the story of the chapter in to the game. However this would be where appropriate and at a fair level with the other players chosen chapters. Unless they are ****** bags.

My group's devastator seems to be overpowered

Charmander said: I hope for chaplains in Rites of Battle but it's hard to tell- there should be plenty more specialties and options opened up with that book even if chaplains aren't there (though the role of a chaplain in the Deathwatch would be a tricky one). My players would prefer dreadnoughts to be there... Playing a Dread or having access to support from them? I suppose if you had enought renown it would be possible? Not played DH or RT so not had access to vehicles, looking forward to getting some armor rolling. -

Thanks Chamander, sounds like reasonable suggestions. I think i will limit the number of players with the following types Lib, Apoth, Dev & Tech. I assume Chaplins will become available at some point. There is enough variity to stop people going nuts. -
sgtgrarm said: Definitely agree. In the campaign i'm currently in my gm let me swap out a fair amount of kit to break up the monotony a bit (we had an apothecary in the last group. I ended up swapping the bolter (w/ fire selector), combat knife, 3x Kraks & 2x frags (equivalent to 15 requisition) for the diagnostor helm. I also swapped my bolt pistol (5 req) for a chainsword (also 5 req). So basically i ended up with a melee based apothecary who was good at his job but kept out of the fights to keep a better eye on his squad-mates. To get around having no ranged weaponage i then took the signature wargear talent and got him a heavy flamer with dipole maglock so he can quickly stow it when needing to administer 1st-aid. Sound like he is going easy on you.

So far our group have been playing the first free campaign, and as I see it the Devastator is churning it up. A tremendous amount of fire power, without the need to brace. As I believe the core rule book states space marines don’t need to brace, right? As a GM and player I agree that RPGs should be and are more than combat based. But within my group at least two people in the group are keen to be Devastators and two want to be Librarians which will lead to holes in other skill sets. I don’t want to tell the players what to play, how can I stop them from becoming such an unrounded kill-team? Also I agree, there is no way anyone could carry two HW's. -

The regardless of the intentions of the protagonists of the incident, they all could have acted differently. The BT should have heard out the UM and the SW. The UM should not have put a Krak in the BT's face. I would get them to talk it out, maybe a good opportunity for some roleplay back base. Yeah the Black Templar was right, smoke the Xeno for the "Greater Good".
