  6. Personally I just want to have a thin/small stuff concerning RT characters from 0xp to 5000 xp (starting from fledgings, scions, small group of bored nobles, etc.). In a sense, it is the 'reversed' ascension expansion, when the characters do not have full access to PF nor ships or even anything. And although I personally dislike the idea of bringing TableTop to FNG RPG, I must agree that a more similar (or at least consistent) rules (and stats) are always good.

  9. Well, I was using the standard pseudo-code though. And my group (also) tend to be able to 'manipulate' the roll, so... Anyways, point is the Point Buy method offer some flexibility and full customization. Some players would love that.

  11. A noble born, who joined a war, defeated lose all his wealth, and awaken a latent psyker power, then becoming an astropath... I personally dont see any problem as long as the story (or fluff) fits the character. And players (and GM) are having some fun together.
  12. Even if the average roll is 100++, the versatility of min-max-ing is always a great temptation. So players can simply make a character as they want, not dependent on random rolls. I'd say point buy is more 'tempting'; players can determine their strengths (and weaknesses) as they see fit. btw using the tools I made, I often got a total rolls equals to 120-140, with only several times below 110.
  13. Maybe Bilateralrope was referring to Bolt weapon's damage type as well, which is Explosives (X) ? But I have to agree, it is quite (over)powerful to have a tearing weapon, which could deal extra 2d10 ignoring armour and bonuses if the victim failed a toughness test with (-10 x damage taken).
  14. I'd rather use Compel to shoot other crew so the Arch Militant do not gain a bonus to WP test. But yeah I think I can see the point. Do not have the book right now, but it really sounds dangerous.
  15. About gears to support medicae, Badlapje has mentioned most of them. Using them, it is quite easy to achieve maximum bonus (+60). OOT: Do Faith Talents from Missionary useful in Medicae? If I remember correctly, there is a talent to multiply or adding Willpower bonus to the damage healed (at the cost of spending a Fate Point).
  16. hmmm, I think that Navigator also receive a staff without the proficiency, and Missionary can have flamer without the proficiency. But indeed, there is an errata stating that Astropath's melee weapon training at rank two should be deleted.
  17. I'm in a group where most of them enjoys roleplaying and most of them dislikes 'rollplaying'. The problem with our Space combat was, most of them dislikes the prospect of rollplaying. We've had some Starwars session and it was fine. So maybe my mistake was, I took out the roleplaying aspects. I'm planning on running a lengthy space combat next time (not because of the number of turns) since I want to try to put more details on each actions. Maybe to 'triage' action, there will be a series of event (checking the wounded, rescuing people, organizing the doctors, etc) or the Flank Speed (contact the spirit, synchronizing cogitators, optimizing codes, checking minor errors here and there, finding substitution for an absent tech priest on a date, etc.). As well as other actions. So after the group decided what to do, it run 'simultaneously' (just like another short adventures inside the ship) before finally the rollplaying. Hope this will work, otherwise I will have players sleeping during space combat (and I also do not want to remove it, most of us still loves it just do not know how to make it more fun for us - yet).
  18. Just an opinion: Why should RT characters more powerful than DH characters? Especially if the 'power' here is combat prowess or skill or talent. Maybe it is just me, but what I have in mind is, RT characters are not 'powerful' enough than DH characters. But they have the freedom to decide their faith. I always thought DH characters as specialized special agents; yes they can have multitude of personas, but still they must bow to and obey many figures. RT characters does not necessarily bow to them; it's their own choice to choose the path (and the consequences). And RT characters are sometimes relied too much to their minions.. umm.. crews... that they become weaker (not improving greatly). I believe it's more of roleplaying choices though; and yes such roleplaying choices are not 'supported' by RAW in this game. Anyways, for Command and Charm skill, somehow I'm quite sure it is easy for RT characters to obtain them at 1st rank by RAW. Unfortunately I do not know about DH characters (do they also got them easily). And of course, the RT-only Commerce skill is great as well. Plus, the PF thing. I'd assume the DH characters do not have access to PF. Unless of course, the GM permits. Dont really know about Ascension though, but I believe it's a totally different level. But these are just my opinions, sorry if I'm not giving good advices or anything; just want to share an opinion of mine.

  20. Just a thought (other than putting the GC as endeavour or other things): usually in order to 'find' a specific thing, someone must succeed at Inquiry or Commerce roll first. Maybe it can also be done? So to acquire (outside endeavour or other things) a starship (in this case a GC), the character must succeed at Inquiry (with a penalty equals to SP) first. Unfortunately this is not RAW though. RAW, never forget to pit Misfortunes, the cumulative -10 penalty to PF tests, etc.
  21. And I also have some questions concerning Ship's Critical Hits: 1. Can we destroy components because of Ship's Critical Hits? 2. If we can, can we destroy essential components? 3. What if the destroyed or damaged essential components is Life Sustainer, or Crew Quarters? Are there any complications abound?
  22. Until now I only use NPCs' statistics using NPC section from FFG books. There are lots of them (well, maybe not all of them are suitable to our needs though). But I tend to use the same NPC's statistics on several NPC as well, only differing in how to play them (and put some attitude and such). About Profit Factor, there is a rules section in "Into the Storm". Simply put, shopping spree in one session could lead to misfortune, trouble, suspicion, and -10 cumulative penalty. BUT, PCs can 'burn PF' to temporarily raise PF for 1 acquisition.
  23. I always thought that Unnatural Toughness also apply to soak damage as well. But indeed Unnatural Intelligence have not much use other than medicae, Tech-Use, Languages, and Lores... Hmm.. Suddenly it sounds not that few..
  24. OOT: I think I'd opt to 'it still have the momentum' so it still moves 'ahead'. There are several reasons on this: a. Physics (well, I have to agree with stevetassie). b. The rules (If I remember correctly, to alter the speed or course of the ship, a roll is needed; otherwise it will just 'move normally' because of the momentum). c. I'd like to give some 'challenge' (read: difficulties) to my players to grow the fleet. But of course, these are just my opinions (and preferences).
  25. @Whitelycan: About the shields, it shows Shield Down if the shield is completely down; otherwise it will show " [number] shield depleted, remaining [another number]". And about the DoS, that's quite strange; I found it to be okay. Just tested the Autofire, Test, and Ships, and the numbers correspond correctly. On a characteristic of 30, rolled 8, it was 2 degrees (18, 28); and number above 100 also fine. (characteristics of 129, rolled 7, 12 degree). Currently I'm running on Windows XP, will try on other computers as well; maybe it's in the compiler. About the grammars... will fix it once I have the time
