You do realize that with this ruling the Lepreachaun will be next to unstoppable if the stable card is drawn? That is what has happened in one of our recent game, the Lepreachaun had the 3 warhorses but we only allowed him to use one at a time and after he loss a fight he had to ditch all 3 warhorses.

The Alchemist, too, but I feel this is still the way it goes by the rules.  Just because the Warrior has two basic swords doesn't mean he can't use them together at the same time.  If a Riding horse can be used along with a warhorse, why not two warhorses.

It may be different for other people, but the Adventure deck is getting so big with all the expansions that last game we had was the first time we even saw the Stables cards being used, and that's after nearly 8 games played with Sacred Pools.  The Livery made its first appearance for us, finally, so I don't really see this as a major issue if its appearance is scarce.

  2. Oh I see, I don't have the Cerberus card in front of me and didn't know he had that bit of text.  So if I understand correctly now, according to what you said and what the FAQ says, Cerberus blocks entry through the portal of power, and the only way to actually defeat and remove him is to roll the exact number of movement needed to land on his space exactly.

  3. If I understand the FAQ's clarification of Cerberus correctly, I'm still having a hard time seeing the point of him.  Sure he hangs out at the door, but if my only opportunity to be "stopped" by him is to land directly on his space, then that seems backwards when 9 times out of 10 I'm going to have rolled enough movement to pass through to the other side.

  4. Personally I DO like the idea of the City expansion and even the Forest expansion (the elf gets no love).  However I also think a Sea expansion would be interesting.  The storm river by the Village could empty into it.  Then we'd get to see new characters like a pirate, corsair, distant traveler (I'm thinking martial artist), or merfolk.  In any case, whatever expansion they decided to release next involving cards, I hope they add some trinkets into it so it's not just the Highlands implementing those rules.

For non-board expansions, I kinda hope that one day they make an "expansion companion" expansion.  Namely it just adds cards and implements rules to all the decks that utilize rules introduced in other expansions.  For instance:

    1) Trinkets in the Adventure and Dungeon decks.

    2) Brand new relic cards (primarily to reduce the chance one draws the overpowered Arnkell relic).

    3) Cards for the expansion decks that make use of the Stable deck.

    4) Some sort of monster creature or creatures that work like cerberus except they guard the entrances to the expansion boards

    5) New Warlock Quests that utilize the expansion boards (EG: Read a book at the Library, Discard 3 trinkets, Move the Reaper onto a character or creature, etc.)

I'm also kind of hoping to see an alternate ending card that forces the players to do some co-op play (sort of like everyone vs. the board, a la Arkham Horror style)

    A guy can dream I guess :)

I would say no, you can`t stack the warhourse ability, you can have 3 of them in posession yes, but only use one at a time. you onle have one craft value, lets say 3..... and strenght 2, this will bring up you strenght to 5 in battle, the war hourse says add your craft value to strenght....... so no matter how many cards you have thats says that,  it`s only just 3 you add no matter. pretty clear to me anyway.

Monk can already use his own ability and Psionic Blast or Warhorse on top of it (FAQ), essentially adding his Craft value twice. Are you saying a normal character couldn't use 2x Psionic Blast?

I'm with Dam on this one.  According to the FAQ which proves that multiple applications of what is essentially the same bonus can be administered (Monk, Psionic Blast, Warhorse), there's no reason one couldn't use more than one warhorse, especially since you probably DESERVE to since to me it would be such a rare thing to have happen (unless of course you have tons and tons of gold to spend at the Livery and are able to land on it multiple times)

I thought I knew the answer to this question but someone had a question in our game last night that made me second guess myself.  Do events affect everyone or is it only if the card specifically says so.

Wording on Events tells you what/where they affect. Some target a region, some all the regions, etc.

What about when the event states that it affect all the lands (Horse Thief comes to mind)? Does that mean only the region it was pulled from or for all regions?

It's funny you mention him.  The horse thief was the very card that brought up the debate at the table.

Now when you say "we" are you referring to a house rule you have?  Cause the rules for treasure say to choose one.

One of the variants mentioned in the Dungeon rules, implemented right away. Like the random Quest variant suggested (then later made official in Frostmarch) in the Reaper rules. Also, seeing how Highlands went with random Relics, doesn't look like FFG is going for the cherry-picking direction anymore (Quest Rewards are random too, right?).

To us, choosing stuff like your character, rewards, quests, treasure, etc. has no business in Talisman. Random is the only way to go.

Excellent point, I'm going over the release dates of the various expansions in my head and you're right.  Frostmarch DID come after Reaper which changed how Warlock Quests are accumulated.  I used to think that the different way one acquires a relic rather than a treasure was a decision made because it's easier to beat the Eagle King than the LoD, therefore your reward wasn't as good (as relics are usually not as impressive as treasures) or as easy to cherry pick.  But the latter really doesn't need to be an issue, as it seems FFG just changed how it handles getting treasure.  I'm going to implement that variant rule in my games immediately.

Oh and to answer your question, yes, Quest Rewards are indeed random.

     2 Questions arose during a game :

Can a flight potion be used similarly to Arnkell or Cloak of Feathers @ inner region to reach CoC? (I dont remember exactly the card but i believe it says instead of rolling for movement which would imply it cant?)

Gipsy's Ability allows her to gain a spell that has just been discarded, if the Gipsy is full (craft 5, 2 spells in possession), can she take the discarded spell and discard one from her possesion instead?

    1) No, Flight potion requires you to be in a situation where you roll for movement.

    2) As I understand it nothing can discard your spells other than some specific effects here and there (there is a trinket in the Highlands that allows you to discard all your spells and gain new spells to replace them)

Actually, since we have had random Treasure from day one, I'm not sure the Cloak of Feathers has ever been drawn for defeating the LoD. Arnkell has shown up a few times, but beating the Eagle King doesn't really have the appeal that the LoD has, mostly because it's too easy. Inner Region is still the standard for us, mostly because it's faster than LoD path to the Crown and more sure than the Eagle King route. If you're tough enough to beat the EK, you're good to go for the Inner Region (unless you have a lot of Object/Follower boosts that only work in combat).

After checking my logs, seems the Cloak of Feathers was drawn on 24 November 2009, so just once in 78 games where the Dungeon expansion has been used.

Now when you say "we" are you referring to a house rule you have?  Cause the rules for treasure say to choose one.

  10. But it should be time for it soon, right FFG?!  3 expansions out since the last one and a hefty amount of questions constantly brought up here on the forums, I'd say it's time.  Any of you fine people want to help me think of FAQ issues you all think need addressing?  Specifically any questions you see brought up here numerous times and no one seems to have a definite answer.  The only ones that come to mind to me:

    - The Valkyrie resurrecting sacrificial followers to become effectively indestructible.

    - The official (as in FAQ official, not a link to an interview) ruling that the Arnkell and the Cloak of Feathers are fair game in the inner region.

There's got to be more, but I'm a little brain dead at the moment.

  11. I like the Talisman expansions, like more than a friend.  But with the addition of the Arnkell and the Cloak of Feathers (ESPECIALLY the Cloak of Feathers, since you can choose to select it upon beating the Lord of Darkness), we haven't encountered a werewolf den or a pit fiend in almost 10 games.  Options are fun, but I feel these items are easier to get than going through the center.

    Thoughts?

  12. Are the Alternate ending cards that involve battling a "boss," namely the Ice Queen, Eagle King, and Demon Lord, considered Enemies, creatures, or neither? If Enemy, can the Chivalric Knight use his ability to "aid" a character attempting to battle them if he too is in the Inner region, thereby moving to the center space? If creature or Enemy, does the Finger of Death spell work and if so how?

  13. Are the sorceress, minstrel, and vampiress's ability to take followers counted as abilities they do instead of encountering a space or character or can they take a follower and then encounter the area like normal? Likewise, can the sorceress both attempt to beguile a character AND take a follower, or just one or the other?

  14. I thought I knew the answer to this question but someone had a question in our game last night that made me second guess myself.  Do events affect everyone or is it only if the card specifically says so.

  15. Played with the Battle Royale ending for the first time ever last night.  Had a few questions.  Mainly, do the individual battles that happen in Battle Royale still allow for various effects to take place that require a battle to take place with a loss of life resulting, right?  Namely:

    - Does the Dark Cultist get to roll for a gift after each life she takes during her fights?

    - Do the Ghoul and Runesword drain life? Can the Vampiress with her followers?

    - How does the Highlander's charge work if it makes him lose a turn?

    - Are spells still allowed to be used?

    - Are new spells still acquired by those characters that get to replenish spells, either because they have a character ability or because they have the wand, and if so, when?

    - Can the Amazon redo battles?

  16. Had a bit of a strange incident last night. One character drew the Howl of the Wendigo card (event that states that the next time a character lands on another character, they may not encounter the space, only the character, and it must be a combat, and the winner must take a life). Another character playing the Gypsy decided to not have the event affect her. Later in the game, while the Howl of the Wendigo was still in play, the Gypsy was turned into a Toad. She then was forced to hop one space into a space with another character. Here's the question: When does the event come into play for purposes of the Gypsy? Is it when it was drawn? Or is it when her character lands on another character. I ask, because as the Toad, which completely replaces the Gypsy's character card, she technically has no access to her Gyspy abilities. So did the event not affect her when it was drawn and thus doesn't affect her ever? Or was she forced to fight the character she landed on while toad'd?

  17. nevermind, just checked and i didn't see anywhere in the rule book that says you can't use unconventional means of transportation in the inner region.  We always used to assume you weren't allowed to move at all in there other than one space at a time, based mainly on the fact that the teleport spell card specifically says not usable in the inner region, and things that let you move about such as the leprechaun's ability and the magic carpet object require die rolls for movement, which you don't use in the inner region.

  18. I was just curious, is there any significance to the words in italics on certain character cards?  For instance, the Ogre Chieftan can dominate and the Highlander can Charge.

I ask because originally I thought that these italicized words labeled these abilities as "character abilities" as in those things you can choose to do when landing on a character and encountering them (rather than engaging in combat with them) but then I noticed the Thief doesn't have a steal ability listed on his card, and I thought when you land on someone with the Thief you can either fight them OR steal from them (as I had originally thought this was a character ability).
