For an exploration and long range firepower, you can put a repulsor shied, and put Sunsear macro batteries on prow and odrsal, and put Mars pattern launch bays on the side. less power used, it will help you to explore unknown worlds with a proper set of small crafts, as well as trade. And concerning future additions, try to put an Auto-temple in there too. But yes, Secutor are lovelies light cruisers if done right.
  2. The answer would be : depends of your dynasty, the way the Warrant is transmitted, and the current state of the lineage. For instance, in the french campaign I've mastered, the RT was in her forties, yet she went immediateley to look for a wedding in game, in order to have heirs in short order. She got some of her genetical material safeguarded in iscreet places, should something happen to her. She married on Scintilla downward volontariliy to someone of good fortune yet not a peer, to be sure to keep him under her control. All of this because she was the last of her line. it was a good idea of sake-keeping as she became sterile after a cybernetic ressruection thanks to warp-tainted poisonning. Less so when a rival manage to find one of such cache, and use it to create five thousands copies of her in order to sell them as cheap prostitues as an insult on Footfall... Anyway; considering the existence of vat-grown babies, cryo-tubes, one could conceive an heir very soon, kept them frozen and put them out of the ice when deemed suitable for instance. Of course, you have to ensure they are kept safe, not pulled out of cryo-stasde too late or too early. Too much potential heirs is as much trouble as not enough for a noble lineage. Basicallty, this is a great question of concern of any RT worth his gelt, full of potential drama and plot twist, considering any device they use to try to safeguard their line.

  4. Concerning power bagpipes : standard ones were not considered fancy enough. Lathes-wrought bagpipes were tested, but the Lois pattern flaming power bagpipe was an instant favorite. and the standard houselhold troops were given chain-bagpipes. Nope. And a corrupted Eldar craftsworld the size of Jupiter into the fray. that's not the real climax fight, though. it will be against Erasmus Motherfuckin' Haarlock's Spear of Destiny. I give you three guesses to find which they'd rather face.

Takig into context that said female RT is considered by many as a living Saint... -When said purge, excluding the airlocking manually done by the RT, was essentially a Tank regiment assaut. IN a space station. while playing the Panzerlied over and over. -When the RT ordered that all the clones to be gathered...and then the programming removed, and that they were sterilised -and all the ... incidents incured before hand avorted-. and military drilled, and equipped with the best assaut equipment available. -When the rival is about to face very soon a very pissed off RT and 5k clones of her as the spearhead of the next boarding action...
  6. In fact, you don't. it is specifically noted in the rules that you can only fire the Nova canon in the mentionned range bracket (usually 6-40).
  7. First; Calixis is not really a backwater sector. Second : having a strong detterent against interstellar invaders is the point of a system defense, especially when knowing the doctrine of the Imperium (ie, the world defend itsef and must hold on the time reinforcement is scrambled from the nearest worlds). Third : a monitor is slow, not nimble, use short range weaponry, and can't leave the system. The least it can do to be useful.is to be well armoured and well-gunned. Fourth : A true vessel of war can dstroy that whitout too much an hindrance. Lances, torpedos, bombers squadrons, and even RAW macrovolleys of doom will much them quick and easy. Fifth : it's the sort of thing you find over civilized, well established imperial worlds, along with space stations and minefields. Not really in the Expanse where you are supposed to go to discover the undiscovered. Sixth : They are the the local enforcers in said place in space. Smugglers, pirates and other neerdowells, even those system bound, won't use indeed that kind of ship, not suited to their needs.

If I do remember well, the Force weapons section in Into the Storm does tell that Nabigators can't use them like a psyker... yep. p128 of Into the storm, the Force weapon quality sidebar, last paragraph. "Although Navigators are considered psykers, their powers are different from a regular psyker and they do not gain any of the above benefits for using a force weapon."

  12. A few things to ponder : - Is your RT allowed to sail there ? Remember that ships are usually allowed to go on limited routes; even warrant holders can be limited to sectors, or a Segmentum. Holy Terra is a Segmentum away from the usual Obscurus RT. - There are a lot of pilgrimages going there, so perhaps the routes are controled. -About security : This is Holy Terra. Luna is a whole star forteress on its own, Then there is Mars. and further away, Titan. between the Custodes, the Inquisition, one of the two main Sororitas convent, the Imperial Fists, the Grey GKnights, the Astra Telepathica, a few temples of the Officio Assassinorum, the fact this is the holiest place fior the Ecclesiarchy, the place where the High Lords of Terra dwells....security ishould be strong. Over the top paranoid PC with unlimited founds and thousand generations dfedicated to build it strong. - for the rest, not much is known. Cionsiders that terra has no longer any ocean and the Imperial Palace is as large as the Himalayas, to give the scale. -is it worth it ? For bragging rights, it might be.

  14. From BFG fluff, it is a standard cruiser, built according to Kar Duniash pattern, as many, many RT dynasties are there. it could be a Lunar, Tyrant or event Ambition hull if you wish so. or even a Conquest.

  16. Are you at character generation ? If yes, then, indeed, they can choose a hull worth 55 SP, and can get additionnal components of up to 5 SP, grand total 60 SP. A 1 or +1 means that getting this component use 1 ( or the indicated amount) SP to obtain. Some components have no SP costs, but be aware you'll have to be sure your ship has enough space and pwoer to accomodate them. If you are not a char gen, then, use the ad hoc side bar in the DCorebook, o if you wish, the details added to the process in battlefleet Koronus.
  17. Well, the hat thing is something you found in a lot off groups, as a way of showing off. Might come from Internet jokes about hats in the Catholic church, hat galore in Team Forteress 2, or whatever. Then, it become a common joke. First time though I heard of a RT team using belt buckles as a symbol of ostentatious wealth, instead of hats, uniforms or medals, or gold plated anything..

  19. Unimpressed ? Have you compared, side to side, say, an Aurora class light cruiser and a Lunar ? The Eldar ship are faster, more nimble, hitting hard with their lances, able to launch "invisible" torpedoes and aircraft. Sure , they have a short range, and hulls armored with papier maché. But when they are straffing you from behind and then running circles around you, tacking solar sails, you sure won't laugh about their spaceships. Basically, all their ships, whatever the size, should be played like raiders : hitting hard, from ambushes, right at weak points, and dodging the counter fire. And it seems like they were nerfed a bit from BFG, where they were beasts - right after necrons-.
  20. the Mathammer fixes can be found in the thread of the same same name, but namely : - reduce the armor of all ships by twelve OR add 12 to all macracannons damage. - in a macrocanon salvo, deduce the target armor for each hit. -halve the strengh rating of all broadside, give them Storm. As for targeting components, I was talking about Hit&Run and boarding parties, not a good old bombardment. And in all cases, it can be done : - if you know such component is there ( Focused Augury needed before hand) - there are penalties depending on the target,as usually, they are heavily defended. Moreover, I was especially talking about Hit& Runs done as the GM on the players ship. Nothing stops you to scare them with a suicid raid of Murder servitors going straight to their Munitorium, doesn't it ?
  21. I have used atomics extensively, as a GM. I've tele-nuked one of my players' ship, and lone of of their arch-rivals use them extensively, by full broadsides.... I do use though the mathammer fixe, thus a nuke for each hit will face the target armor. thus, against a Lunar hull with 20 armor, each hit will do between 0 and 6 pts of damage. Less deadly than standard, but still potent. Atomics have a few caveats: - Can't be used by any macro batteries, it needs to launch projectiles. Sunsears thus are out, you can argue perhaps for plasma batteries, hot launching a nuke. Solid ammo batteries (Mars, Thunderstrike, Jovian missile batteries, Melta batteries, and others) are ok. Bombardment canons are good too for them, though it's a downgrade in damage, for an upgrade in number of hits. - you have to hit with them. So you have to choose in your volley which is standard ammo or the nuke. First one ? uyou hit the ennemies shields. Further on the line ? you might lost it if you have not enough DoS. - Remember the "if detonated inside a ship, it auto kills it' ? what happens if someone targets your munitorium or your battery? Or, if your use of atomics become known, a hit and run targetting the nuke to activate it inside your own ship ? - the Telenuke attack, aka " I teleport a nuke inside my ennemy ship, kabloie, cg all". First, you have to lower your target shields for the teleportation to be able to enter it. if the Geller fields are up, you can't. and a live nuke through your Tp is a dangerous proccedure than can blow you up as well. My players, who are even more cunningly brutal than standard PCs, won't even try this, and the God-Emperor knows they have tried crazy shenanigans. The Telenuke which happened against them was feasible only because one of my PC boarded the nuke happy rival flaghsip, that their nemesis wasn't on board and that said flagship got both nukes and a teleportarium... and a crew fanatical enough to risk their own annihilation trying to nuke the other throguh this method after hitting down her shields. Scorched earth tactics and all that. Atomics are useful in fact against target with a lot of shields -as one hit blow down at least 1d5+4 shields) and easy to hit. you don't nuke an eldar ship, it's a waste. Rak'gol, Stryxis or Orks ? Go ahead ! And Nurgle affilitated demon-ships. You won't have boarded this anyway. On a small ship, it is your joker against a heavily armored target you don't have lances against, and that you want down quickly. With standards rules, they do wonders to one shot something, but it's not like you can already one shot most of your targets with batteries and a good Master of Ordinance. With Mathammer fixes, it basically doubles your macrobattery volleys, if you have to punch out something nasty. in both cases, remind your players of the atomic costs, that one Hit& Run can doom them all, that they are facing the auto-kill all the time the nuke is on board, and setting it on up on an ennemy ship is very hazardous.

Using propaganda and lies and half truths in an universe so full of it that WE, players, can't agree on tidbits of fluff because we only gets said half truths, stories and legends, where the Imperium use the good old 1984 mottos, is not 40kish, really ? Believe me, I'm not against brokenspoonsmen. After all, one of the nemesis I've thrown toward my players dynasty was one, in power armor, power lance, power sword, on an imperial moto-jet. And step 2 on a Halo Device. The point is to manage to get everyone involved. And it's easy because Rogue Trader is about such large ventures that to succeed , your players have to juggle between different problems at the same time. An example, if you wish, that can also be appropriate for "you know you're playing RT when...". In my campaign, my players are trying to stop a rival dynasty which has gone to far away, being the backer of the Amaranthine Syndicate, allied with Slaughts and the Rak Gols, their warrant holder becoming a Yu'vath thanks to his Halo Device. Who also has recovered something that allows him to clone crews and starships whole. And there is also the slight problem of the return of a time-travelling, ubiquitous with beign spotted both in his frigate OR cruiser SPEAR OF DESTINY, Tyrant-Star unleashing, making the denizens of the warp lee in terror at his coming, Erasmus Haarlock. Cue to the last major fight : my players ragtag fleet with their allies - Charlabelle, Blitz, Amerlan & Sun Lee- trying to flee Quppa Psi XII before Haarlock arrival, and intercepted by the rival dynasty fleet of 300 something vessels to crush them once and for all. Longue range specialist characters ? many ships to destroy, aeronautica fights, boarding parties ! Close combat ones ? boarding parties as well, including two duels, one between a player Assassin and an ennemy counterpart in the Melodium, and the player RT against her rival... On the hull of her ship. the augmenticist , flaming power sword and thunder hammer wielding RT and her cherubs on one side, who come her to dislodge three ennemies boarding torpedoes, and the rival, stade 2 on his Halo Device, in power armor, with power cutlass, power lance, on a moto-jet, and his lackeys. How does it ended ? when the arch-militant comes to man one of the ship turret to push out the rival into the plasma exhaust of the ship as her RT was overwhelmed. TL;DR version: troubles to mix your players way of fighting ? Throw more ennemies, seperate them, so they have to face challenges that are appropriate to their style of fighting. Style, not difficulty, mind you. To become the biggest fish in the Expanse is a way full of predators bigger and scarier than you...

Nothing stops you to bombard the F###er from orbit, and then, yarn a good tale about how you cleave an Avatar in half with a broken spoon. that's the reason why you have a good Seneschal as you Propaganda/P.R guy. As for the melee/ range thing, I have a bunch of crazy players in each specialty, sometimes both at the same time.., I never got a real problem of one overshadowing the other really.The only things that can be bothersome are area of effects attacks, like grenades, missiles, or Lidless Stares... but it's not like that's the sort of tactical choices any roleplayer is used to face often.
