I feel like loading up missiles or torpedoes is a waste, mostly because you only get one use. That's why the unlimited uses appeal to me so much.

It's not "unlimited" rockets though, you're effectively just giving the ship a 3 dice basic attack instead of whatever it has already. That's all it is. It's nice on the ships that can take it since they probably have less than 3 attack dice.

Nah, we're just in a lull at the moment.  The C-ROC will be coming soon, and we'll start seeing Wave 11 articles in late June/early July for it getting a GenCon release in mid August.  We'll probably see a Wave 12 announcement in August/September for a December/January release to tie in with The Last Jedi coming out.

Mostly I'm curious to see if there will be anything announced for the 40th Anniversary on the 25th May.

I thought they wave 11 was supposed to be June. The announcement article said late Q2.

  3. Dude it's a limited print run because they have other sets to print! This is exacty what I thought would happen, and it's a good thing. Between printing each new set enough that the first printing won't be short, they're print a little bit of awakenings to get more of it out there. You'll see this happen for about a year or two until there's a good enough supply built up that the amount of awakenings printed is roughly the same as everything else. They literally don't have the time to do a HUGE print run of awakenings, so they're doing what they can.

  4. I strongly believe you won't have to worry about a "standard rotation" for a long, long while.

Magic: the Gathering is over 20 years old and the Standard format wasn't created until many years after Magic's first introduction (I'm still looking for an exact year they introduced the format [originally introduced as "Type 2"]. It's actually harder to find a date on that than I thought). Destiny is just over a month old and still finding it's footing among the world of CCGs. They're not going to rotate cards out of tournament play when the game still needs to take off. Heck, the first official FFG tournaments for Destiny haven't even happened yet (unless I missed something).

Standard was introduced into magic for the reasons Don_Silvaro listed above. Destiny does not have any of those problems at this point and most likely won't have those problems for a long time (or at all if we're lucky).

I went looking, and found an article from 2012 talking about the history of standard in MTG, as well as the reason TCGs need rotating formats. It states about a third of the way down the page, that magic had been around for 19 years at the time, then mentions stuff about people being mad about type 2 when it was created. Then it says 17 years later standard is the most popular format(not so much anymore haha). Which means it took 2 years for standard to come about for magic. Two years is pretty ideal for most TCGs to start rotating because at that point, there's a HUGE amount of cards.

Everyone else here  should read this article since it also goes in to WHY a rotating format is good for a game.

  5. One time does not a trend make

It does when it comes to lists of cards for sets in TCGs. If you change the format each set, people get confused. It's easier to make it all the same order so that it's easier to organize. Organized lists look nicer and are easier to make as well as track. It's pretty safe to assume that every set will use the same order structure as Awakenings.

... I know a turn is super short in this game, but come on. Do you stuff then say, I end my turn, DONE, problem solved, no rules just common sense.

Basically this is the gist of my argument. I can't for the life of me figure out how people can't just acknowledge that they are done with their turn so the other person can go. Common sense is wonderful, but not everyone uses it unfortunately. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.

Simply my own opinion, but very few actions or moments in Destiny create this problem.  It feels rather burdensome to have to say "I'm done" after I play every obviously single action, just so we've got a nice consistent pattern for you to make sure not to risk reminding your opponent about an ability.

When it comes down to abilities that you may miss, I've looked, and most triggered abilities that characters have, are "may" triggers. Which means if you miss it, tough luck, you missed it. Now in a casual game, feel free to be nice and rewind back if it's easy to do, but in a tournament, it sucks to be you, you missed it, it's gone. You have to be tough with people that miss that stuff, that's the only way they learn. I've seen it many times, and do it to myself as well.

On the other hand, if the ability doesn't have the word may in it (Akbar was the only one I noticed in Awakenings) you HAVE to do it. If you miss it, the game rewinds to make sure it happens. It's usually best to call a judge in those cases, if you're in a tournament or league.

  7. You've got to be kidding me...First there were people upset about having to offer their deck to cut, now people need rules on how to end a turn? I've been playing TCGs for most of my life and most of this stuff is second nature to me now, but I can't imagine meeting someone who literally can't acknowledge that they ended their turn. I know a turn is super short in this game, but come on. Do you stuff then say, I end my turn, DONE, problem solved, no rules just common sense.

  8. You guys do realize that sites like MM get a separate stock for singles vs normal sales, right? They aren't shorting paying customers so they can carry singles, it's effectively a part of their order from FFG that's already allotted for opening and selling as singles.

  9. Direct quote from Asmodee:

    Update from Asmodee:

As many of you already know, Star Wars: Destiny is set to release on December 1st. Due to the complexity of manufacturing our premium dice, as well as the size of the print run, we have been forced to break this print run into four shipments. This was necessary in order to get product to your store as fast as possible. The first shipment, as stated previously, is set for December 1st. Additional shipments will arrive on approximately December 15th, December 22nd, and finally, in early January.

Looks to me like January will be the end of the first print run of this edition. Whether or not FFG decides to run a second print run is up in the air. Based on the production issues they've had, I find it hard to believe, they'll be able to simultaneously run a supplemental print run of this edition alongside their first expansion. Even if they do, based on past FFG experiences, their reprint runs take three to six months to hit the shelves. If they started reprinting now, I wouldn't expect new product until April at the earliest. With the tournament season coming up, I expect the secondary market to maintain it's current value, which is a good thing for a collectible game's long-term health.

That is true, but this announcement doesn't mention if a second print run is already done, which it very well could be. They also don't mention if the 4 shipments are even the same size, so the 4th wave could be huge. Overall the announcement is just talking about this current print run, and shouldn't be taken as no more prints are coming ever. FFG is a good company and wouldn't release a ccg with such a small amount of product for it's first set, that would be suicide. I just hope they have a faster shipping method for this game, as apposed to what they do with everything else.

  10. 3 set per year, 1 set of starters per year, has been confirmed, on a podcast I believe. As for print runs, I'm so sick of having to say this so PLEASE tell everyone you know that has no experience in TCGs. A set will be in print for at least a year, maybe two. It also depends on if we ever get a rotating format like standard in MTG. A company would never stop printing a set after a month of it being out, not even supplemental products go out of print that fast. Everyone claiming that they were told by distributors and stuff, are wrong and misheard. With all the issues with product right now FFG is just trying to get enough out for everyone to play, no company, not even Games Workshop, would be dumb enough to stop production on something this hot, it's also not how TCGs get produced anyway.

    So in summary:

    3 sets per year

1 set of starters per year

sets don't least print for at least a year

probably more based on popularity of the game

  11. The only thing that bugs me about how unavailable Destiny has been for the last month is that I'm struggling to put together a working deck with what little I've been able to get, while the guys that snatched up the boxes during prerelease and release (yes, it's my own fault I didn't preorder) have the best cards and multiple decks to play with and test. It makes me nervous to play against them on Destiny night when they've got decks like Vader-Raider + Holocrons + Kylo's Lightsaber + Force Choke + ect. while the only deck I have that contains enough points of characters is eKylo Ren + Grievous.

Now that my LFGS has limited the amount of packs you can by to 2 packs per person per day, it's tough to try any other decks other than the starter decks with the bits and pieces I've pulled from what packs I've managed to get.

P.S. Yes I know singles are available online. But the best cards are expensive (unsurprisingly) and I'm trying to get more commons and uncommons as well, to play with and test out to learn what works and what doesn't.

I feel you, but those of us that didn't pre-order have to tough it out until things even out, which hopefully won't be for much longer. Prices of singles will also drop once product is flowing normally.

  12. I'm sure Xwing lost some players a few years ago when the planet earth had sold out of waves 1 and 2, and missed out on picking up players who passed it up due to lack of product. A few years later that game is still going: some would even say successfully. Would FFG be happy they lost players? No. Did they open new factories and expand their operations to meet the rising (now known) demand? Yes.

This may be frustrating for some who will have to wait a few extra toys to fill their collections, but I'd say the lack of available product is a sign this game is probably going to last. I'd be more worried if everyone bought up all they wanted and here was still heaps of product on shelves and in inventories (like the Star Wars LCG unfortunately).

To all those who think FFG should have been able to predict exactly how popular this game would be and how many units they would sell and when, congratulations, your hindsight is 20/20.

Everyone would say x-wing is successful, it's the world's most popular minis game.

  13.

Problem is that most people have speculated that this is the amount you need to buy if you want to get (nearly) everything without trading. Well you will most likely need 1 - 3 boxes more than this.

And for X-Wing in Germany we got some pretty big delays here.

Rogue One expansion are nowhere to be found (unless you want to pay a premium for imports). Heroes of the Resistance took nearly two months to even get here as well.

I don't really mind that much because i am only collecting the miniatures at this point and stopped playing. But those that do want to play do not get the product on time to compete unless they want to spend a significant (up to 25%) premium.

I understand why people are buying multiple boosters, as it's the quickest way to build a collection, I just don't think that FFG could have predicted just how many boxes etc a single person would purchase in the first few weeks on sale. I just find it highly hypocritical of someone to start a threat calling FFG for not getting enough starters and booster into stores in the games first month on sale when they themselves have purchased 4 starters and 108 booster packs, that's enough for 4 people to get into the game casually and still have boosters left for other people to purchase. When I say casually I'm talking about kids and families that just want to play the game and trade with friends etc, not casuals who want to collect every cards to have a full set.

They created a collectible dice game that is organized like a regular FFG product that would come out in separate, fixed play sets.  There is a major problem with that.  They need the fixed playsets to make it work.  They need to release 6 starters in the first year (2 per set for the first 3 sets) with a FULL 30 card deck to go along with the 9 dice.  Otherwise, they are going to be losing people.

What on earth are you basing this on? The current starters are fine, they have recognizable characters, and good cards. A few boosters will put them up to 30 cards, and you're good. You only HAVE to get more starters if you're planning on playing competitively, and if you want to play elite Finn. This is a CCG style game, they aren't going to just give you everything you need, so you either buy packs or singles. If that isn't your thing, play something else.

Seriously though, why would they have to make 2 starters per set? The current plan of 2 per year is fine with the release structure for the game.

  14. I don't understand why people are still complaining, retailers have already stated that they're getting restocks on the 19th. A supply shortage at the begining never killed a game. As I stated in an earlier post, look at dicemasters, it took 6 months before they had supply fixed and a second set out. While it's not SUPER popular, it's hardly dead, though Destiny might kill it. Supply shortage is common because a company literally cannot tell how popular a game will be when it first launches, and if it does have a supply issue at first, it's solved in the next few printings, since they now have an idea how demand.

I know people are mad, but don't act like a few weeks with limited product is going to sink a game based on the largest sci-fi name in the world, made by one of the world's largest game companies.

  15. Production issues or being cautious about how popular the game would be are understandable if it was something of a one off. But they aren't - the latest imperial assault wave has been delayed, the latest x wing wave is delayed, and elsewhere here you can read about delayed or out of stock products.

I invest heavily in several FFG lines and will probably continue to do so well into the future, but there's an unfortunate pattern of how they plan their production and manage stock levels. I'm not asking them to run with huge warehouses full of unwanted stock; just hire some experts from elsewhere in the industry who can better manage the supply chain.

Where did you hear that those waves were delayed? X-wing Wave X has been on the boat for a month or so already, and the rogue one ships came out right on time. The current issue is very common with new CCG style games, a company doesn't want to over produce product for a game that doesn't go anywhere. The next printing or so will solve all the production issues since they actually know the demand for product.

  16.

in my opinion it is unacceptable and needs to be addressed way before spring

    Are you serious?

This is Standard Operation Procedure for FFG. FFG makes production estimates based on pre-orders. No one preorders things since its not Magic (unless you're thinking ahead like Team Covenant). They make enough to double fill the pre-orders. Game is good, people want more product.

If you didn't pre-order, its your fault: you need to wait. FFG isn't going anywhere, and neither are you.

On top of that, it's impossible to predict how popular a game will be before launch. Dicemasters had the same issue, though Wizkids waited like 6 months to get a big enough print run out, as well as a second set. I doubt FFG will have that big of a gap between product, or sets. If you enjoy the game, stick with it and we'll have enugh product to go around soon probably.
